Good pizza! We came in around lunchtime on a weekday. Ordered a slice of cheese and sat down at the bench near the window. Good texture, good amount of cheese and the sauce had some kick! Doug is the pizza king, slinging delicious pizzas in that kitchen! We were walking down Brazos and 4th after a bar tour and really wanted some food to soak up some alcohol. Not just food, but something a bit greasy and delicious. My wife and I came across this pizza place called The Onion. It didn't look like much walking inside. It had a small standing area, small counter top, but a pretty large kitchen-like area. The smells of pizza cooking helped us make our decision to stay here and get a slice or two. Pepperoni, which is what we wanted, was of course no available at the time to buy and leave but they had just put one in the oven so we decided to wait. While serving others that came in, Doug was super friendly and got to know us a bit. He gave us some great tips about what to go check out during our time in Austin and explained a bit of the history behind The Onion. This place is by far one of my favorite late night places to venture to when I have the drunchies haha! You order pizza by the slice, and they'll quickly heat it up in the oven for you by default. They offer thin-style pizzas (similar to NY-style) with a generous amount of toppings and variety. It's usually the same staff members that are working late at night (assuming it's a family-owned business), but they are extremely sweet and patient considering the amount of drunk people they have to deal with on a nightly basis (me included lol). Although the line can sometimes go out the door, it moves very quickly. There are a few bar stool seats located on the inside but we typically end up eating right outside the place where there are some benches for people to sit on! You won't regret trying this place out the next time you're hungry at 1 or even 2AM, especially if you're already out and about! :) read more

My wife had a late night craving and this pizza window was a block from our hotel. We got here around midnight on a Friday night. It was a little of a nervous walk, but mostly well lit. There were a couple of people in line when we got here, but t moved quick. They had a good selection, maybe eight different pies. My wife got pepperoni and I got Hawaiian. They ran them through a pizza oven to heat them up and gave the slices to us on paper plates. "Doug" was so disrespectful after I asked him about my Call in order. This was no problem I was willing to wait, for the " Good pizza" I was supposedly to receive. At first, I'm not even going to lie, I walked right past it after following the directions on yelp. It was super dark and gloomy. There were no pizzas out. I wasn't so sure about eating here. My mom and I left and noticed there wasn't anywhere else near the hotel to go to. As my hunger set in, we ventured back. What a place! Always one of my favorite stops when we were able to go out downtown, and during the pandemic I couldn't ask for a better reminder of our night life. I got a pizza delivered and spoke with a very friendly man who helped me with my questions and then delivered the pizza in under 30 minutes. When the pizza was delivered the driver was very conscious of covid guidelines and super nice! He wore a mask and gloves and even offered to run the card(paid at the door) for us so we didn't have to touch his phone. Plus, he was super ok with our loud small dog and even wanted to meet him. This pizza joint is one of your only options for really really late night food (~1am) since most places close at midnight.
