This place is a family favorite and we hadn't been in awhile. My mom, my boyfriend, and I went for lunch. Our server was amazing and I wish I could remember his name. He was awesome. He constantly refilled our drinks and was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. The food was amazing as always. I typically always get a steak but split sirloin tips with my mom. FANTASTIC. I went to Saltgrass on Mother's Day. In spite of it being extremely busy, the food was hot and delicious and didn't even take long to arrive. We were both impressed by how spacious and well-maintained the restaurant was. Honestly, I tend to expect older chain restaurants to have worn-out seats and food stains on the walls, but this place completely shattered that stereotype. I ordered the ribs with truffle Parmesan fries and smoky mac and cheese from the lunch menu, while my husband opted for the grilled chicken sandwich from the main menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and exceeded our expectations. However, I later learned that the restaurant typically offers complimentary bread and butter, that we didn't receive, which was kind of a letdown. Went for dinner with a friend who was in town looking for a good steak. This was my suggestion and it was near their hotel so made perfect sense. We grabbed a booth in the bar area and started with bourbon glazed bacon appetizer, I had a sangria, and they had a drink from the bourbon menu. Drinks were good. The bacon came out and to our surprise was huge and thick sticks of bacon that looked like ribs! The flavor was really good and the cook was perfect on them. Friend went with the ribeye and I had the dynamite steak and shrimp high with loaded potatoes and house side salads with balsamic dressing. Salads were solid. When my plate arrived on the table there was also an eyelash smack dab in the middle of the plate. I immediately saw it and told the waitress before she could even fully let it go bc I didn't want her to say that I had just blinked it on there. She happily and quickly took it back and offered to have me a fresh plate come out. Tried friends ribeye the tater and cook was good but it was kinda cold. When my plate came back I could barely eat. I was somewhat disgusted because hair and food are one of my top no nos. There was another table in the bar area occupied and one maybe two people at the bar when we arrived but they left shortly after. It was very quiet and I did notice a large birthday group in the main dining area when I arrived. We ordered shits from the bartender bc it had been a while since the waitress came by. When she finally came back we asked if we could order one last round of drinks as she walked toward the bar we could hear the bartender snap and say that it was just after 10:15 (it was 10:16) and he was already closing up the bar. They did close at 10pm so understood but what wasn't understood was why didn't he mention he was doing last call. Saltgrass, unfortunately, has become "chain-ey," in that quality appears to be lacking and therefore, I find it overpriced. I liked the food I had okay. There was a "stray fry" in the sauce on my country fried steak--I had mashed potatoes on the side. I did enjoy my meal and the steak was huge. My husband got the flatiron steak and shrimp combo and he did not enjoy it. The steak tasted old, marinated, and overcooked. The Caesar salad that I had was good and the mozzarella sticks were more like mozzarella chunks but I thought they were good. Overall, it was just a little disappointing. I remember my first time trying Saltgrass in the Houston area probably 20 years ago, probably before it branched out of the Houston area, and it was very good then. Not really the case anymore. It's not bad, but there are other places that I think are better overall. Stopped in here today during my travels and had an early dinner. Sat at the bar and had a friendly greeting by the bartender ERIC. I like sitting at the bar when I eat alone. ERIC was super friendly, professional, and very efficient. I ordered the Range Rattlers for appetizer (jumbo shrimp and peppers) super delicious. I asked for my steak smothered with onions, butter and mushrooms-instead my husband's steak was smothered but not mine. Brussel sprouts tasted good. When my dinner came there must have been a tablespoon of seasoning between the green beans and the steak. 1/3 of my ribeye was fat, and the plate was covered in oil. My husband ordered the 9 oz filet (which was overseasoned) with a baked potato, both of which were undercooked, and broccoli instead of salad. 1/2 of the broccoli was undercooked and we were charged an upcharge to sub it for his salad. Our table was clean and our server came to take our drink and appetizer request quickly. My husband asked if the steaks were hand cut, machine cut, or prepackaged. We were a bit disappointed to find out they were prepackaged but still optimistic about the quality. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. We went in on a Saturday night and they were not busy at all. We were sat quickly and our server was so attentive all evening. I thought it was very casual and the lights were dimmed. Not noisy at all. It was very cold outside and it felt like the same temperature inside. We were in a room by ourselves and asked if they could turn the heat up and they very nicely obliged although it didn't make much of a difference. We ordered a ribeye, filet and sirloin to try with a loaded potato and Caesar salad. The salad was the only thing we enjoyed. The ribeye was thin and not hot. The filet was cooked rare and tough to cut into. The sirloin was the worst. The potatoes were small and underdressed. We all agreed the steaks were seasoned well, just not great cuts of meat. This was my first time visiting and I can't wait to come back. My date and I grabbed drinks he had a Long Island iced tea and I have a margarita I cant remember with one right now I'm sorry. I have the Urban cowboy which was a New York strip steak and the shrimp topping. The steak was cooked nicely! Med well just like I wanted. I love a good new your strip. Now my only complaint was the asparagus. They were extremely small and had a charred/burnt taste to them they were okay but I'd rather them be larger and cooked a little better next time but I guess you can't help what comes on the delivery truck. The place is clean, and the people are friendly but unfortunately the waitress was not as attentive as she should have been. I was brought sweet tea instead of unsweet and when asked the waitress brought the unsweet, but just left the unwanted sweet tea sitting on the table. The worker that brought the meals out was wonderful and I had to get a tea refill from him. But...when it was time to finish up and I wanted one more refill of tea the waitress decided to bring me a carafe full. I think that she could use more training to help make others experiences more positive. The meals were delicious. Other than the waitress, everything was good and I hope that she is offered more training so she can become better at her job because she is a nice person.
