The ambiance is nice with decorations befitting the upper echelons of restaurants in this class. Buddy Nelm's , the owner was sitting next to us so we were in good company. Food was not 5 star, small portions and relatively high prices. Our tab for 2 with a bottle of wine was 160.00. The restaurant was very busy which may account for the presentation and portions. Service is good as would be expected in nicer restaurants. All in all a 4 Star review and a recommendation to try it. read more

Great atmosphere and delicious food! We had been wanting to go to Saltcellar for some time and finally made reservations for last night for my wife's birthday. Our server, Rikki, was phenomenal. She was friendly, smiled and helped with suggestions for our meals. We had some Prosecco while we enjoyed our appetizer which was onion rings. They were flaky and delicious. My wife chose the Cellar Filet which had crab meat and I had the ribeye. She chose the mashed potatoes and spicy corn while I had the sweet potato mash and roasted Brussels sprouts. All of the sides were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We had enough food for dinner and leftovers for today. We will definitely be back and this might be our new favorite in Columbus. read more

If you are ever in Columbus go to the salt cellar! This is hands-down one of my best dinning experiences of 2022! Nick our server was spectacular! He was knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations! The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful! The drinks were delicious and creatively constructed! The chefs platter was a protein paradise! The steak medallions or melt in your mouth tender, The scallops juicy and cooked perfectly and the oysters were fresh and succulent! We also kind of dessert that isn't pictured here but hands-down the best dessert we have had all year! I got the chocolate chip icebox cake and my partner got strawberry cake and both were to die for! While waiting on Uber I also discovered a beautiful oasis of plants around the outside seating and in the rear of the restaurant! For a plant lover this is paradise the grass was so plush that I took my shoes off and grounded myself in that moment everything about this experience was absolutely amazing! The chicken breast was moist and tasty. The mashed potatoes were too thin for me. The brussel sprouts were burned. I requested my food plated without being stacked. However, the request was NOT honored. So I had loose mashed potatoes with chicken drippings in it. Then the crispy topped mac and cheese had NO topping and I was told the chef said I must have gotten a portion that didn't have the topping which was the only reason I ordered it. It was bland and I was charged for it after eating a single taste.. BIG disappointment for me. read more

The crab cake was super good, along with the lamb meatballs. The salmon was terrific, and the person that ordered the skirt steak reported it was most excellent, although since he was not paying the bill maybe he was being nice, lol. I went straight appetizers for dinner and couldn't be more happy. The fried shrimp cocktail was incredible. The breading was pretty light and the shrimp are huge. The cocktail sauce was very well done and it was my favorite of the three appetizers I ordered. The chowder was also very good. The grilled shrimp on the top was a delicious touch. The crabcake was legit. There was little to no filler in it it was pretty darn tasty. I was able to get all three for basically l the price of a meal And would certainly do it again! read more

Visiting from out of town and decided to try the desserts from this restaurant on recommendation from another restaurant's bartender. Kameron, our server, detailed the cake and cheesecake options. I chose the salted caramel chocolate cake. Upon tasting the cake, which was quite dry and dense, Kameron revealed that the cake was actually gluten-free, which clearly would have an impact on the taste and consistency. There was no offer to replace or refund the dessert, which was clearly not enjoyed due to the amount that was left behind. This is an absolute must stop for a nice dinner date. The food is tops and the atmosphere feels curated for quality and hits the mark with flying colors. We came with a group of five and had no problem being seated, even without a reservation (although I recommend getting a reservation on the weekends as this place will fill up FAST). There's plenty of seating and a long bar for those of us who would've come for a drink later. I got their special: wahoo topped with a seafood "mousse" (not entirely sure if that's the name) over noodles, and it was an absolute delight. The dishes our group got ranged from the NY strip with chimichurri to the shrimp and grits, and I can say the same thing about absolutely every dish: elevated, refined, effortlessly tasty, and HUGE. We were all completely full and raring for more truthfully. Any time I'm in Columbus, I'll try and get back here for a nice dinner. When YOU stop in, you'd better get the steamed mussels. Please take my review with a grain of salt (hah) because I had to make some modifications to my meal. If I could, I would rate Saltcellar. a 4.5, but am happy to round up, since we enjoyed the experience. Before arriving, I jokingly told my husband that a "perfect plate" for me would be a steak and salmon, but knowing such paradise couldn't possibly exist, I planned on getting just salmon. My husband and I arrived for an early dinner and were seated promptly. Upon sitting, I looked up at the light fixtures (the inverted looking lamps) and noticed that they had a noticeable amount of dead bugs in them, which casted a pretty unsightly silhouette. This is something I think the staff can improve on, but didn't ruin the overall experience. When our server asked us if we had questions regarding the menu, I made a joke about needing a lot of modifications, and she very kindly said that it was totally doable and not to fret. Her reassurance was appreciated and seemed sincere. After she returned with my husband's cocktail (smoke on the water), she listed the specials. By some stroke of destiny, one of their specials for the night was an entree with Scottish salmon, beef tenderloin, and crab stuffed shrimp. Since she had previously reassured me that modifications were acceptable, I ordered the special with lemon butter as my side dressing, and an order of asparagus and kale. My husband and I decided to split an appetizer of marcona/valencia almonds, and he ordered the pork tenderloin. About five minutes after placing our order, a warm basket of popovers with sundried tomato & honey whipped butter were brought to our table. Due to my dietary restrictions, I wasn't able to indulge, but my husband dug in. He admitted that they were the second best popovers he'd ever had -- second only to mine, that is; so he had to say it. The almonds were nicely toasted and sprinkled with large granule sea salt (which makes all the difference) and chili. While I wish they had come out a bit warm, they were a delightful starter, which we both happily finished together. Between the appetizer and our entrees, I picked my husband's brain on his cocktail; it had a chili rim and a lemon, lime, run, & tequila thing happening and felt a bit tajin inspired. He said he'd have preferred it less sweet and I would agree - but it was still a nice cocktail with interesting layers and a bit of complexity. Our entrees arrived fairly quickly from the time we ordered, which was great, because we were hungry. We both ordered our red meat medium, and while my steak was buttery, melt in your mouth soft, his pork was a touch on the dry side (as pork can often be). Regardless, he enjoyed it and the accompanying Brussels sprouts; the root vegetables weren't his favorite, and seemed to have a lot of excess sticky starch, but I cook them often at home and I make a mean root vegetable medley. Back to my plate, though: wow. I mean, it really hit the spot. The steak was absolutely delectable (especially with a touch of Himalayan salt); the salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the vegetables were downright delicious. The baby kale was a bit tart, but was likely due to my modification (I didn't add any of the butter to my meal, but they may have cooked the kale in it.) As far as the Argentinian shrimp, I didn't eat the "stuffing," but my husband said it was much like a crab cake and had no complaints. I cleaned my whole plate without feeling under or overfed, which is something I think everyone can appreciate. All in all, I think that Saltcellar. isn't trying to reinvent the wheel; they seem to be building on a foundation of staple dishes, while them out of the park. I would be interested in seeing them expand into more creative flavors and plating, but I commend them for being solid across the board and look forward to trying more dishes from them in the future. read more

Top tier! I got their special, grilled salmon on a bed of asparagus, potatoes & cauliflower purée I believe. It was good! My fiancé got the seafood pasta (which was my fave), I kept eating the food off his plate. At one point I told him to just switch with me lol. Newly opened and space remodeled. Former location of Meritage. Great re-do of the building. Spacious open and beautiful. Visited on Saturday night soft opening week. Delicious and a full house. Everything was spot on and considering the menu is new it was fantastic. Of course Tom Jones & Buddy Nelms are not new to Cols restaurant scene! Mabella's was out of reservations and they suggested their sister restaurant, Saltcellar. We had a great time. We shared the halloumi cheese as our appetizer and really liked it. I had the salmon and my husband had a pasta. The salmon was nothing too special but it was definitely satisfying. My husband did not like his dish much, as it was a little too heavy and I would have to agree. What made me more inclined to throw in that 5th star was the dessert. I absolutely loved this place. The location, decor, and atmosphere were the ultimate trifecta. I started with a cocktail and the delicious crab cake--very filling! As a lover of shrimp and grits, I was floored by the creativity that was serving the grits in a "puck"--I couldn't even eat both! The crispy outside and creamy inside were an amazing combination. Now, I must be honest--the grits could have used a bit more salt, butter, and garlic but that's an easy path to perfection. The key lime pie--always something I want to order but never do.
