Food was great. Their food delivery service is a little chaotic. So some people can finish their meals before others in their party get their food. Saw several peoples' food get walked around restaurant several times before finding their party. Wish they would work on that!! Would enhance the experience! read more

The food at The Backwaters is AMAZING! We always order fried shrimp with slaw and fried okra. The shrimp remind me of Captain Anderson's restaurant in Panama City Beach! Their fried green tomatoes are on-point also! Crispy and tangy! The ambiance is lake-side casual with lots of picnic tables outside with deck seating too. On Wednesday nights, they have live entertainment which everyone enjoys outside. The only drawback is the long wait once u enter the door. You stand for 15 minutes until you place your order at the cash register, then you look for a table once you place your order. A server later brings you your food. The long wait is daunting because the place is packed by 6:30pm. I would give this cozy restaurant 5 stars if they would allow you to take a seat first and a server take your order Hopefully, they will change the system soon. All the staff are super nice and sweet! Great restaurant overall!!! read more

Not our first time, still awesome! Right on the edge of Long Bridge. Stand in line to order, find a table(they move quickly), they'll bring the food to you! No pets allow s in the deck but they do provide a spot near the water that has tables and umbrellas for shade. Plenty of boat parking for those on the lake! The also have, The Backwaters at the Landing Marina, with snacks and gas. Gas (non-ethanol, 90 grade) has been the same price as on land so I stopped toting 5 gal jugs to the boat! First time we've been in a while -- but always great EXCEPT tonight. Went with another couple. They ordered and then we ordered. Friends got their food and ten minutes later one of us got ours. 10 more minutes and we asked about one meal and the young lady said she'd check. After 5 minutes she said the kitchen was backed up. 15 more minutes I asked again and was told just a few more minutes. By then friends had finished their meal and one of them went to counter and asked about it-- to one of the grown women and she said they're working on it. 5 more minutes and we stopped one of the girls and just said to fix it to go IF they had started on it yet. 2 minutes later they brought it to table in to-go plate/bag. Got home and put first bite in my mouth and had to spit it out. I had ordered WELL DONE hamburger steak... and the inside was cold and red - bloody. Not rare - but raw. The top of it was covered with gravy so I couldn't tell if the side facing up had actually been near the grill or whatever they cook on. But the bottom side was pink like they just patted it out. Being that whoever was in charge never contacted me or our group and apologize for us waiting 45 minutes for my food was poor customer service. The table next to us had someone who ordered hamburger steak AFTER us and they got theirs about the time our friends got theirs. I am so disappointed in the way all of this was handled. I have managed a restaurant and would never ever have let a customer leave without offering some type of apology. I wasn't looking for anything free (seen that too many times over the years), but just some acknowledgment from someone in charge. read more

Always a friendly atmosphere and a great view. The majority of food we've had there has been really good. We have our certain "go-to" meals we like to share as well as appetizers and it's always good and consistent. The grilled chicken wrap, friends green tomatoes and shrimp and grits are our favorites. Fun and friendly local veteran owned restaurant on Lake Harding in Valley Alabama. I ordered the catfish filet dinner which was crispy and delicious. The cole slaw was the best I've ever eaten. Cold brew on tap with a nice lake view, friendly crowd of locals and great service. In the mornings hot breakfast biscuits served next door at the package store. In you are ever in the area, I would highly recommend The Backwaters for dinner. read more

Awesome local place. Good food and two great families serving you. My only criticism would be the ordering at the counter. Like to come in and sit down and be served. Not much on standing in line waiting for one person to take your order, it's certainly a bottleneck. You have enough table help So why not just take our orders table side. We will probably not go back. The place is really pretty and the view is beautiful. Basically a order as you come in and they bring your food to you. So service is not an issue. The hush puppies were good, small but good. What ever you do Do Not order the cream corn (awful). The catfish is where it went off the rails. They were super greasy. Three stars maybe read more

Very good food, but as expected, being on the lake makes things more expensive than they are in other places. This restaurant also has nice docks you can park on, as well as good food + a good view of the lake especially at sunset. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are at the backwater. read more

They have quite a few good menu items however I was in the mood for a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich. They had on the menu, a turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato and ham club, but they didn't have a bacon lettuce and tomato. I ask at the order window whether she could accommodate me with this sandwich she said no unfortunately we cannot do that. I said well you have all the items in your restaurant. Why can't you accommodate me? She said we only do the menu items . She seemed to be a young college student with her young high school friends serving everyone. There was an older gentleman serving bar drinks, but that was the only older adult there. I'm not sure if he was the manager or not. The side items they have were just general side items. I really didn't want fries, but I ended up getting them. They did seem a bit greasy and were put on my platter along with my cut turkey sandwich. The fries were tossed into the same basket very crowded and hard to pick up my sandwich without the fries going everywhere. Fries were greasy and limp. Not a good start to a lunch out with my husband. We did enjoy the outdoors when we got done eating inside, we walked around, and I went into the small store that was next-door that advertised bait drinks and other small items such as chips, drinks and pop. It was like a little convenient store. Prices were just as high as a gas station's. I don't know that I'd go there again soon. We just decided to go there because we knew there was a lake. We ordered takeout from here as it was within eyesight of our Airbnb. There was a mixup with my online order because my phone did not change when we crossed time zones so it appeared I wanted to pickup an hour later than intended. I arrived at the restaurant anticipating the problem and the staff were so kind and accommodating and quickly got my order together despite it being a busy Friday night. I had a nice chat with Ira while I waited. The food was very good. We would recommend. It also had a nice outdoor seating area overlooking the water and had 2 TVs for game watching.
