We came for the oysters on a half shelf - very good, similar to Peruvian muscle was the sauce but the oysters themselves were small and not very meaty. We got the short rib and the rack of lamb. The sauce on the short rib was overwhelming to the plate and everything got drowned in the beet flavors. The rack of lamb was delicious with a beautiful charged smoky flavor and a smooth creamy risotto. My only complaint is that it didn't have a vegetable with it. Excellent service and great ambience and decor but I fear this place is a bit overrated food wise. Came here for my birthday dinner. I ordered the surf and turf and two drinks. The lobster tail and mashed potatoes were delicious. The steak was a good steak but the flavor was just ok. Sautéd spinach was nothing special at all but tolerable with salt and pepper. My drinks were just ok. For your birthday they give you a half a slice of cheesecake which was just enough and decadent. we do love the salt seller. We go definitely on special occasions. And sometimes just to get good food. The service is usually a very good experience. Sometimes it's best to ask for server who has been there for a while not someone who is young or inexperienced or not completely aware of the Menu or someone in our case who was afraid to ask questions. She thought she'd give her own answers. Anyways. The ambience is nice, but sometimes a bit loud. The food is mostly consistent. Sometimes you may get scallops that are still raw. That's happened three times. And broccolini that's bigger than your foot and not very tasty. Giggle giggle. But we can't have everything we want right? Anyways, very happy with the Salt Cellar, I just hope they read their reviews. and get a few constructive criticism ideas from this.. We will continue to go back, unless it gets worse. read more

We were visiting my son in Columbus, GA and decided to try this restaurant. The ambiance was great! Old brick walls, rustic but also modern. Our waitress was attentive and checked in on us to make sure all was well. The food was delicious. I had the filet Oscar with asparagus and mashed potatoes and it had a great presentation and was full of flavor. Cooked to perfection for me. Of course I had to try a little of everyone's and they were all delicious! Portions are not large but satisfying. It's a little on the more expensive side but it was definitely worth it!!! Been wanting to try Saltcellar for a while now. I had the opportunity last night to have a late dinner showed up an hour before they closed, and they still welcomed us with open arms and served us a delicious meal! We sat in Kameron's section..dessert bar. He was super attentive and super funny. He explained the dinner specials and of course we had to dive right in. How can you miss a great grouper? Tasteful restaurant just off of Broadway. Same ownership as some of the other trendier restaurants in town e.g., The Loft. Very upscale yet comfortable dining area, they also have a nice bar. They start you out with a complimentary fresh bread basket with their sun-dried tomato & honey butter. For dinner, I went with the Scottish Salmon - you get to choose your own sauce and I went with the Bourbon Glaze. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the bourbon glaze was so tasty! For the dinner sides I had the Brussel sprouts (good, but not great) and baked sweet potato with butter & a light sprinkle of cinnamon. For dessert I couldn't resist the scrumptious looking cakes that are clearly visible in their display case. I decided to get a slice to-go and went with the triple threat chocolate cake. The cake was ok as I didn't feel that it had a have a ton of flavor save for the outer icing. Definitely not worth the calories, I would choose another flavor next time. read more

Four friends out for a nice dinner. I personally had the Salmon with cream corn and grit cake. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the cream corn was some of the best. It's spicy, so if you're not a fan of spicy things then I don't recommend it but if you like a little spice it is most defiantly delicious and I totally recommend you give it a try. I was not a fan of the grit cake. The other ladies loved their meals - no complaints about any of their food. Kamryn was our server - she was awesome. I can't think of anything she could have done better. We decided to take a slice of cheese cake to go. My only regret is I didn't order my own dessert. I have never been so surprised at how bad my meal was. The waitress was very nice and apologetic but I ordered the seafood pasta and it was ice cold. After taking a bite of a shrimp, I asked that I get a new meal, not mine thrown in the microwave. The "manager" on duty assured me that my meal would be completely remade. It came back and there was my half eaten shrimp still laying there. I will never go back because the "manager" was so rude about their poor performance. I had made a reservation to dine here several weeks in advance. We arrived around 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday. They appeared mostly full by that point. The restaurant is located about a block off of the main street in Columbus' downtown. There was parking on the street in front, but that appeared full. There were also other parking options within 2 blocks, though. The restaurant had an airy feel, as one wall is mostly windows. There are 2 - 3 semi-separated dining areas. The clientele seemed somewhat dressy. Our waiter was friendly. He described the specials. We opted for a standard beef (me) and fish (wife) entre. Both were good. I think we also split a salad. We also split a dessert. In all I thought this was well worth the price. The food and service was amazing!!! The onions rings were batter was just right and were not greasy at all. The dipping sauce that it came with had enough tsp that you didn't have to ask for more. The bartender Cameron made great suggestions on both the food and adult beverages which went great with the food. I was in the mood for steak and was super happy that I chose to come to the saltcellar for a ribeye. The steak was cooked to perfection! Absolute perfection! From the beautiful floor to ceiling windows, the exposed brick and beautiful decor, you can't help but to want to see if the food can in any way compete with the ambiance! There was no disappointment. We ordered the roasted almonds as soon as we arrived at the suggestion of a coworker. I figured it'd just almost how could this be special? Well.. WHAT A SHOCK!! The Valencia almonds were roasted and seasoned with sea salt. Sounds simple enough and bland. Well let me tell you they are not. They are magical and a must have! For appetizers we had the grilled halloumi cheese which had a smoky cheese taste and the conch ceviche which was served beautifully in a martini glass. The ceviche was amazing without being salty or overly "fishy". For my entree I had the cellar filet with sinful potatoes and roasted asparagus. The filet was prepared with shrimp and crab fonduta that was just enough surf to compliment the turf. The impossible potatoes are hard to describe but I would say it's macaroni and cheese but scalloped potatoes for the pasta - in other words, INCREDIBLE! The grilled asparagus had just the right about of char to compliment the filet. The cheesecake dessert - MUST HAVE! The same family which owns Mabella and The Loft own Salt Cellar which means amazing cheesecake. Believe me you don't want to miss it! When in Columbus we typically dine at the same 3 restaurants. Last evening I got the opportunity to try Saltcellar. I ordered the sweet Vidalia onion rings, Chef's Creation, Seafood pasta Newburg, Shrimp Stuffed Carolina Trout, and Tanya's coconut cake. First thing I'd like to point out is that we did not get our bread till I asked our server if I could get some. Other parties got their bread as soon as they sat down. I didn't even get the sun dried tomato and honey butter that I found out about through other reviews of this restaurant. Attention to detail was pretty much nonexistent. Sweet Vidalia Onion Rings: 3/5 The onion rings were okay. They looked and felt like they were baked, not fried. This is not a bad thing, just an observation. The rings were heavy on the breading. I could tell these weren't freshly made because they were not warm, which seemed to be a theme across our whole dining experience there. Chef's Creation: 2/5 I don't recommend ordering this. I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful, but it's simply not worth $33.00 for a cold appetizer. It came with some pork skewers, salmon, and egg rolls. The skewers were dry and cold. The pork skewers had grill marks, yet it was served cold, not even warmed up? It just seems like they got one of thos pre-packaged meats from Sam's Club or Costco and forgot to heat it up before putting it on my plate. The salmon was a bit too salty in my opinion. The dill sauce, that was paired with the salmon, cut through the fish sharply. However, the salmon itself was cooked decently. The flesh was soft enough, but the skin was not crispy through. In all honesty, the southwest style egg rolls is the reason why this dish isn't a 1/5 for me. Main reason why the egg rolls were the best item on this dish is because it was actually warm. Crispy factor was there, but ,assuming this was made not fresh to my order, it makes sense. It tastes like chicken noodle soup. I had a chicken noodle soup MRE not too long ago and this tasted exactly like it. Seafood Pasta Newburg: 3/5 I think I had the same quality and tasting pasta from Cheesecake Factory, just cheaper. The sauce was a bit watered down in my opinion. A Newburg sauce is meant to be rich. This was not rich in my opinion. Another interesting observation was that half my shrimps came with tails and the other half came without tails. Not sure why or how that came to be but okay. The serving size of the lobster and crab meats were expectedly on the smaller size. The meats of the shellfish were a bit rubbery when eating them. The noodles were cooked well. Shrimp Stuffed Carolina Trout: 5/5 The trout itself was cooked well. It wasn't rubbery like the seafood in the seafood pasta. The skin was not crispy though. However, that is just a personal preference of mine. I am a firm believer in having the skin of the fish be crispy and crunchy while having the flesh be soft and flaky. The shrimp and bacon stuffing complimented the trout well. The fattiness and saltiness of the bacon did not steal the spotlight from the trout. I also got the spicy cream corn and the Boursin cheese and herbed mashed potatoes as the two sides. The corn was definitely seasoned, but it was not spicy. The spiciness of the corn was 100% cooked on the side of timidness and caution. The Boursin cheese and herbed mashed potatoes were cooked well. I have no complaints there. Tanya's Coconut Cake: 5/5 I forgot to take a picture, but this was, without a doubt, the best course of the entire meal. The coconut cake was not too sweet, light yet filling, and true to its name. If this restaurant were to turn into a dessert shop, I think it would do just fine. Overall grade: 2/5 I was originally going to go to "Mabella" for dinner. They were packed and weren't taking walk ins till 9:30pm. So I walked over to "Saltcellar," which seemed busy enough and decided to try it out. I should've just stayed and waited at "Mabella." This is just a overpriced Cheesecake Factory. The main issue I had with this restaurant is attention to detail. I'm not sure why I had to ask for our bread when other tables were given it as soon as they were seated. I don't understand why half the dishes we were served were cold when they were clearly meant to be served warm. It was strange to see that half the shrimp in the seafood pasta had tails and the other half didn't. The only reason why I'd come back to this restaurant is for the desserts. I don't mean any disrespect or rudeness in writing this review, but the food industry is a very straight and critical scene. I have had a lot of food from both hole in the walls and fine dining establishments that are good at what they do. They make spending $50 or $700 well worth the experience and taste of the dishes they serve. The "Saltcellar" simply lacks the dining experience and the taste of the food. Again, I would only come back here for the desserts. Aside from that, save your money and go somewhere else. read more
