Went recently for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were very pleased. At first, we were initially surprised and disappointed -- the table they were about to seat us at was close to the entry/front door and way too out in the open. However, the owner (manager?) went out of his way to make things right and got us a nice table in the "wine cellar" part of the dining room, in front of the kitchen. It wan't too loud there (surprisingly) and, frankly, kind of "neat." The server (Sara, I think) was excellent -- nice/kind, well-informed as to the menu (including the drinks), and attentive. The food was excellent-- Mibrasa flat bread, the squash appetizer, the chicken entree, and the pork chop entree -- all delicious and perfectly cooked. In sum, a great evening and dining experience. We regretfully had a poor experience and will not return. While the greeters and the server were very nice, the food was marginal. We both had the Thai curry with snapper, potatoes and cauliflower. The large strip of snapper was presented with the skin on, unnecessary and visually unpleasant. The potatoes were only partly cooked in the curry sauce, and had an unpleasant crunchy, raw feel. How hard is it to know if your potatoes are done? You stick in a fork and taste one in the kitchen. The cauliflower had a much longer time in the Cuisinart than ever needed, and were unrecognizable. The decor is like one walked into the masonry center and said, "I'll take one of each!" There was a dizzying array of colors, surfaces, stains, and themes. The ceiling was like a Southern plantation with white wood and caning. The bar was dark wood. The walls alternated between dark wood, concrete, and a very creepy stark white subway tile with a large, dark burgundy stripe running horizontally in the middle. Were we in a morgue? I have been to Saltbrush three times now and unfortunately each time the food seems to get worse. For $65 I would expect a steak to be cooked appropriately and to melt in my mouth without hard or gritty pieces. The mashed potatoes are e best party of that dish. The chicken made me sick. The salmon is prepared medium rare over bland beans. If you go, stick to drinks. Great ambiance and cute restaurant. Bummer about the food. read more

We really enjoyed our Anniversary dinner tonight at Saltbrush! The service was top notch, the drinks were very unique and so delicious (hubby LOVED all of the different whiskey cocktails), and the small plates and entrees were impressive. The Passionfruit Pavlova, incredible! We look forward to coming back. I can't say enough paotiive things about our experience. I think Saltbrush can go toe-to-toe with the Lively, the Avery, and Percy. read more

I've read a few negative reviews here and couldn't disagree more. Went for dinner to Saltbrush last night for the first time. My wife ordered the New York Steak. It was cooked to a perfect Medium Rare and perfectly spiced (no salt or pepper necessary). Tender and delicious. I ordered the Pork Chop (which I rarely ever order in a restaurant) and it was excellent...about inches thick, cooked perfectly. Very juicy, flavorful, and not at all dry. Our friends ordered the Mibrasa Roasted Chicken. Both thought it was excellent. The service was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and professional. On the negative side, I thought it was a bit pricy. I also think they need to add a few different steak sauces to choose from. Maybe a Peppercorn Sauce or a Béarnaise Sauce. The only steak sauce they have is a Black Garlic Sauce. It's OK but nothing to jump up and down about. All this being said we'll definitely be back again. read more

The place was an absolute hit for us, especially when we went with their recommendations to share several small plates and share 1 entree. We did the beef tongue pastrami and pork cabbage rolls (absolute must get) and then the lamb. I highly recommend getting more sauce for the lamb and dip as you go because that's heavenly. Great food, drink, service, and ambiance for the area. Boise's food scene is improving and this is an excellent addition. It's also nice that they are one of the few restaurants in the area that actually regularly updates its menu. I wish more restaurants in the area would do the same. read more

The restaurant is trendy and well manicured, but it fell short. The food was less than subpar. Frozen salmon from Trader Joe's has a better flavor profile. The service was great, no complaints there. Won't be back. read more

Ignore the one star rating; I didn't have a no star option. I don't even know where to start! The dining room was very loud and echoed making it hard to have a conversation. The wait staff were cold and uninviting. The kitchen was open where one could see the chefs preparing the orders trying to give off a high end vibe but the chefs were wearing pencils behind their ears and hats on backwards like one would find in a diner. The food was sub par; tough inedible lamb and bland salmon. While I was in the dinning I viewed the restaurants website that had pictures of the owners and staff with a paragraph about their interests and what their last meal would be (odd). Nowhere on the page did it give any information on the chefs culinary history which makes me wonder if he was ever in a professional kitchen. read more

One of my new favorite places in Downtown Boise. The service was top notch, the food was reasonably priced and delicious, and the wine menu was to die for. The atmosphere is very nice. Has a big city vibe. The drinks are good. The steak was very good. The staff was friendly and attentive.

Went for a birthday dinner. We were sat very late after having a reservation. We ordered two medium rare steaks. One was served completely raw. For $65 a plate would not recommend coming for dinner. Drinks were fantastic, if you come I would recommend sitting at the bar and getting appetizers. read more

Do not bother trying this place! I ate dinner with 4 other adults and we all felt the food was subpar. My lamb was tough and had no flavor. The server was unpleasant, seemed inexperienced. We gave constructive feedback to the manager and she didn't seem to care. With so many great options in this city, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time and money here!! read more

The first time we went there they were extremely busy and we didn't get a chance to get service, understandable when you are a newly opened restaurant. We went in last Thursday, sat at the bar. Everyone worker we spoke to was pleasant and attentive. The wine selection was good. I decided on the roasted chicken. "Mibrasa grill? yes please"I don't believe I have ever eaten chicken that tasted so good. My wife had the pasta, she loved it. Good job guys! read more

The decor is very nice, very upscale.....as you might find in a nice restaurant in Los Angeles. However the food we had was blah... My wife and I split the house salad which was boring, felt like a bag of salad from the grocery store. For our entree we were torn between the NY strip steak or the pork chop. We chose the pork chop and were disappointed. Nothing special.....no sauce. And it came sliced for us and thus didn't really feel like a pork chop. We should've opted for the steak. Hmmmm. Not quite sure how I feel about this place. We arrived 12 minutes before our reservation and were told we would not be seated "until closer to our reservation time". I asked when that would be and was told, " just closer to your reservation time". We were told we could wait in the bar. I asked if someone would get us when we were to be seated and we were told someone would come and get us. We went to the bar; ordered drinks. Our dinner guests arrived a few minutes later and were seated at our table, which had remained empty the whole time we were there waiting. No one came to get us to seat us. After that, our server was friendly, informative, and efficient. The food was good. The wine list was unusual. This place is so loud we could not hold a conversation at our table. We might return, might not. This is not first on our list. We know that if we return, we will not arrive early, or we will plan to wait in the bar and keep an eagle eye on things so we don't get overlooked, and we will not plan a relaxed evening of calm conversation. read more

I dined at Saltbrush this evening and it was delightful. The ambiance is modern, yet, regal, refined. I love it that the servers wear the same uniforms, as it lends to the classy appeal of the space. The service is above and beyond from the hostesses, bartender staff and the servers. I find that service is lacking in many establishments, but not at Saltbrush. The cocktails are well-crafted and their selections are unique and delicious. The fare is so interesting and is prepared well. I had the cabbage rolls and the house special of Dungeness crab 'tortilla.' It was beautiful and buttery. We had the kale salad and the tagliatelle for dinner. The ingredients were fresh and seasonal so they were at their peak. The house special strawberry shortcake was delicious. I would have loved a bit extra sauce, but it was tasty, nonetheless. Saltbrush is a great addition to our restaurant community. Give it a try! You won't regret it. read more
