Peaceful setting on the outside deck, attentive service the whole time, tasty lunch - fresh fish, creative preparations.

My mother in law was super excited to try this place. With all the excellent reviews, we had high expectations. We were seated pretty quickly (it was a Monday evening) the restaurant itself is nicely decorated has a relaxing ambiance and yes it has a wonderful view. The menu isn't huge but had a decent variety of choices. The prices are a bit high but that's to be expected nowadays especially when you're at a seafood place. Our server (don't recall his name) was a youngish man with dark hair, he approached the table and immediately the vibe I got from him was not positive. He wasn't what you would call friendly or personable, his listening skills were also lacking as he couldn't be bothered to hear basic requests like my father in law asking for a half sweet half unsweet tea. My MIL, BIL and husband all ordered the fish basket which was grouper and fries. I ordered the wings, my FIL ordered the lobster bisque and salad, SIL ordered the coconut shrimp and my 6 year old son ordered the kids Mac and cheese. All of our food came out at different times my son got his Mac and cheese last. Everyone's order was missing something. Sauces, sides etc. my BIL was given the fish bites appetizer instead of the basket because our server said he ring it in wrong after which he asked you still want fries? My BIL said yes of course, I wanted the basket. My husband and MIL had larger nuggets of fish in their baskets while my BIL had tiny little pieces in the appetizer. We asked the server if the same portion and fish was used in the appetizer as in the basket and he seemed bothered that we even asked. He said it's the same thing, I pointed out the difference in the fish in the baskets vs what was in the app and he said yea it's basically the same. The lobster bisque is served in a coffee mug for $9 and my FIL said it tasted off and told the server. Again the server seemed bothered by this. The missing side eventually made it to the table and clearly the server had made some kind of mistake because a few minutes later the same sides were delivered to our table again.l, we told the person that we had already received them but he left the sides anyway. My sons Mac and cheese was a bowl of penne pasta with some kind of salty butter sauce.. he said he didn't like it (Mac and cheese is his favorite) Refills on drinks had to be requested as our server wasn't on top of it. In conclusion, the service was absolute garbage, when a server isn't friendly and doesn't really care if his table is taken care of, when orders are incorrect because he enters it in the computer incorrectly then doesn't want to fix it and when the server clearly displays annoyance the food must be has to be perfect to save the visit. Unfortunately the food was lacking in many ways, the prices are high and the portions are small, the quality just wasn't there. Everything lacked flavor. The two sauces for the wings are disgusting! How do you charge $20 for some tiny grouper nuggets and a few over salted and hard french fries?! The view is nice but you can go to the fish house for quality fish, it's just up the road and then you can take a walk down and take in the view afterwards. We never saw a manager, just plenty of random staff just standing around talking. My MIL and SIL ordered a mai tie and a puma colada and they said their drink was the best part of the meal. If you're looking for good food, don't waste your time, don't be fooled by the reviews on here.. trust me and go to the fish house. If you want some drinks and a view this place may be the place for you. As for me and my family this was our first and last visit. read more

Hot afternoon for lunch, but the patio has lots of fans and temperature wasn't too bad. The view of the water from patio was spectacular. Great service, friendly folks and great food. Fresh oysters were an bit pricy - $18.00 for 6, but tasted very fresh, and had all the right sauces. Gaspars tuna tartare was awesome. Menu has lots of variety, so we'll be back. They said they'd been open since February and are doing well. This used to be a popular local restaurant, and they have nicely upgraded. read more

It took forever to finally get in there but we did on our 37th Anniversary. One hiccup to get in but after that, it was smooth sailing. We receded in a perfect place overlooking the water and a beautiful oak tree. Our server, Ryan took extra care of us to ensure that our anniversary went well. The manager popped in as well to say hello and we told him about the issue getting in, but after that it was wonderful. We understand that this place is still pretty new and they're just ironing out processes. The food was exceptionally good. From the chicken wings that were jerk to. The lobster bisque that was amazing. The entrées were equally as great. However, my wife is surprised at the amount of peppers that she got with her Rasta Pasta dish but I was happy because I got to eat them later. My only reservation is trying to come back and being disappointed about having to wait an hour and a half to get in. What a great addition to Clermont. We went for a quick dinner the other night. George was our waiter and we absolutely adored him. He was social and funny and very attentive. We had a table near the door and it was pretty loud with the location of the speaker nearby. I had the island grilled chicken and it was delicious. It came with plantains which are my favorite and not as easy to find as you'd think. My husband and daughter had the chimichurri steak and both were cooked as ordered. Shared the crab cakes with onion strings and they were delicious. Chimichurri steak was good. Kid's hamburger was also very good. Our server Lexi was patient as it was our first time and answered all our questions. It was loud but very busy. Liked the open air looking out at the lake! Plenty of options. Just stopped in for the first time and highly recommend it! Servers were on top of everything; from prompt seating to drink orders to apps and entrees, everything worked great. Fritters were perfect and coconut shrimp were a nice size. Unexpectedly they had pompano as the catch of the day and it was prepared impeccably. Only suggestion would be to pair the fish dip with veggies and upgraded crackers rather than saltines. This is a great addition to downtown Clermont and wish them much success! read more

Waited so long after seated to place a drink order that we almost left. Plastic disposable cups even for dining inside. Margarita was completely flavorless and overpriced. Beach area is great but there are much better bars in the area. read more

Definitely a new favorite! I came here last week with some friends and knew I needed to bring my family back. The grouper tacos are amazing and they put lots of fish in each one! Food was very good. Service just average. New staff--so to be expected. Negative, would be pricing. No market pricing posted and at lunch the sea bass was a surprise on the bill when it was more than $35. Really think the price of all our 3 lunch entrees were pricey. Great addition to Clermont! Tried this today on the fly and glad we did. Standout was the conch chowder. Pompano with garlic lemon rice also solid. Calamari was a big portion, tasty. Mojito was very nice. We also had raw oysters , very tasty also. Service was very personable and prompt. We will be back! read more

I went with my husband to unwind and relax, asked for 2 glasses of white wine and the waitress brought us to warm glasses of white wine. It was 90 degrees outside and we wanted something cool. The waitress said if we wanted ice in the wine. I said no; just to switch to any other brand that was cold. White wine should not be hot and actually should be served in a stem glass to avoid heat by holding it. The fish bites are expensive for such a casual restaurant. The view is beautiful! read more

this new restaurant is located right on the lake. It has the feeing of being in the Caribbean. all of the fish is fresh galley. I had wild golf shrimp cocktail, which was really good. Next time I would ask for something besides barbecue sauce with it. my husband had ceviche. which he liked, even though it was a little mild for him. You can have the choice of conch or shrimp depending on the day. The sangria is outstanding.!! we also had blackended magi tacos, which were good and they came with a jicama coleslaw. I had a side of broccolini and plantains, which I enjoyed. They make their own Keylime pie, which was delicious. Our waitress was Candi, and she was attentive and friendly. Candy represents the on restaurant well!!! Will we go there again- you betcha! is it a little pricey? Yes, but well worth it!! read more

Under cooked grouper fish. Cheese burger with bacon had no seasoning. Outside tables were over run with ants crawling on top of them. I could not taste the alcohol in the Pina Colada, the regular lemonade drink tasted rancid. The waitress was professional and attentive. The drinks were served without lids atop them. There were no condiments individual packages brought out to the outside tables. No tartar sauce for the fish, only honey mustard. I rate the Salt Shack a 2 out of 10. Don't worry, I will not be returning. read more

Atmosphere was nice and service. However the food wasn't good. I had the grouper tacos and it had too much seasoning on it and wasn't worth $20. There was something on it that caused me an allergic reaction as well even though I've never had an issue with grouper. The other items in my group wasn't really good as well. Food was spicy and it is difficult to obtain a food item that doesn't have a lot of seasoning on it. It's unfortunate as the view was wonderful. It would be nice if they could offer food that isn't so spicy. read more

Let's start with the food. Ordered a fried fish appetizer. Well after 35 min, I asked that it be checked on. The order got lost or not turned in, there error. No apology no nothing, no offer of anything. It finally came out, better late then never, it was good no complaints. Ordered the special, "Blackened Swordfish" $29. I have had this dish out many times. What came out was not properly blackened and the fish was not swordfish. It was grouper or Mahi. My photos show the fish thatwas served to me with rice and beans & plantains etc. And my photos show what real deal authentic sword fish looks like prepared blackened. I questioned this dish twice with staff. It was insulting it was handled and prepared like this. When u pay good money for food you want it done right and prepared as stated. No mgt in sight, no one asked how our dining experience was. Should be a one star, I gave it a 2 star because of nice views of the lake. read more

Fryed shrimp still had the peel on, over cooked and dry. Fried grouper was burnt with no seasoning. Grouper sandwich came with no condiments which made it dry. Rum runner tasted like cherry medicine. Key lime pie should have been put in the refrigerator, it was runny. read more

We wanted to celebrate my husband's elderly family visiting us by taking them to someplace special in Clermont. We thought that the Salt Shack would be the ideal place because the ambiance is so wonderful and really represents the best of the Clermont area. We heard great things about the Salt Shack in Tampa and assumed this place would live up to that reputation as well. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The small cup of lobster bisque was quite expensive. Although tasty, there was barely any lobster in it to warrant the $8.75 cost for a tiny cup. The calamari was something that we were disappointed in as well. I had the jerk chicken sandwich which was an absolute joke. The oysters were really good and the chimichurri steak dinner was really enjoyed by my 89 year old brother-in-law as well as my son. I think we might have overlooked the quality of some of the food if the service was better. However, the waitress was really poor. She managed to upsell us on some items, but otherwise barely had time for us until it was time to bring the bill. All of a sudden, she had plenty of time for us and became very friendly. That was only after having to track her down to get our orders correct, having to ask her to refill drinks and to remove dirty plates. We went on a Monday evening and the restaurant was not that busy that the waitress couldn't have given us better service. I was really wanting this place to be wonderful and a place that we would frequent particularly when entertaining guests.... however, at this point, we would hesitate ever going back. I'm hoping these are just growing pains and that soon this Salt Shack will live up to the reputation set by the Tampa restaurant. read more

Nice atmosphere, great location, cool vibe. Felt a little touristy or something. Appetizers were pretty good, but portions size could definitely be bigger for price! We had the gator bites and the conch fritters. I preferred the gator bites. The gator sauce is like a lemon honey mustard thing and it is very good. The entrees all tasted pretty good except for what I got unfortunately. I got the Rasta pasta with shrimp. I had in mind the classic creamy/spicy Cajun pasta dish (lost the photo somehow). Salt Shack's version is oddly VERY sweet and the sauce is more watery than creamy. The peppers in it were essentially raw and crunchy which was weird. I tried adding some hot sauce and stuff to make it better, but couldn't get it there. I will most likely be going back because everything else seemed good. Can't wait to get some drinks there in the summer. Also I wanted to note that service was very good for just opening up recently. read more
