The best Nigerian restaurant... the food is flavorful and service and staff are amazing. The price is pretty steep though

I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for over a year, spending approximately $200-$400 per month. I was introduced to the restaurant by a colleague, Jordan, who happened to be a relative of the owner. While the food is generally good, the management is a shit-show. The main issue is the red-haired manager whose attitude has been consistently arrogant, condescending, and dismissive. Over the past year, I've had several negative interactions with him. The first incident occurred when I requested stew without beef. I wasn't asking for a discount and was willing to pay the full price, yet he flatly refused the request until the owner stepped in and resolved the matter. The second incident involved a catering order for jollof rice. I informed him that I would pay upon pickup the next day. Despite being a regular customer for over a year, he insisted that I pay in full before he would even enter the order into the system. I complied. The next day, I called to let him know I would be picking up the order a day later. No matter how many times I explained that the order had already been paid for and that I didn't mind if it was refrigerated, he refused to listen. The conversation only ended when I challenged him on what exactly he intended to do with food that had already been paid for. The final incident happened today. I called in a pickup order for a plate of okro,$42,and arrived at the restaurant. Although he clearly saw me standing at the counter, he remained seated for some time before acknowledging me I knew there was going to be another bullshit today.When he finally approached, he asked if I was picking up an order and requested my name. Considering I've been a frequent customer for over a year, this was surprising but not an issue in itself. After I gave my name, however, he immediately began questioning why I had arrived late, stating that he had been given me 30 minutes to pick up the order. I asked what would have happened if I hadn't arrived within that timeframe. Instead of answering, he repeatedly insisted that I should have followed the pickup time. I asked multiple times whether he intended to give me my order, but the conversation quickly escalated into a shouting match even using the f-word. Then i turned back ready to leave without the food until another employee stepped in and called me back from the door.Eventually, this manager went over to the kitchen and brough my food, and I paid for it. However, after reflecting on the interaction, If he could be that vicious even in my presence,only God knows what he must have done at the kitchen with my food.I felt so uncomfortable with the situation that I threw the food away. A $42 of my hard earned money. Unfortunately, because of the manager's openly hostile attitude toward paying customers, I have no intention of returning to this restaurant ever again!And it is no longer a place I can recommend for anybody. Looking back, whenever I read negative reviews mentioning this manager, I always question,how hard could it be to treat people with respect. Especially your paying customers. After my own repeated experiences, I now understand exactly what those customers were describing. Again the response about not hold fooding because of food poison did not address the nasty attitude from your manager. This your response even make it seems that you encourage him to rude to customers. There many restaurants that keep food in the warmer for all day.chipotle,pappadeux for example. If thats even the case, is that why your manager pointing fingers at me and telling me that he had been watching me? This is what your regular customer deserve for their patronage? The food was great. They blend spicy and flavor quite well. It's a chill family oriented venue. The cook food quite fresh plus there's only one waiter for the entire venue so wait times were extremely long. For a group of 4 expect to wait close to 30 minutes. I come here every few months so it's worth the wait. read more

I visited Salt and Pepper today and I have a lot to say. I have been missing home and craving Amala and Gbegiri for a while now and my sister for a while now has been talking about Salt and Pepper. First of all that's such a lovely name for a restaurant. So I'm in Dallas for the day and my sister decided to take me to the "famous salt and pepper" for some Gbegiri and Amala and all I can say is wowzersss. We walked into the restaurant and the space was big . The ambiance was not bad and the restaurant was clean. We ordered our food and all I can say is that the food was very tasty and one of the best and if not the best Amala I have ever eaten. The meat was so soft and the Amala was just the right size. The food was delicious! The flavor from the meats and the stew with the Gbegiri was just amazeballs!! To the chef well done. The hostess was very nice and professional. read more

I spent $40 on my meal, and while the rice and plantains were delicious, the goat meat was extremely tough and barely edible -- hardly any meat on it. Definitely not worth the full price. That said, the vibe was great and the staff were really nice. I'd be open to going back to try something else, but I'd love to get at least half my money back for this food.LOL read more

Ordered takeout through Ubereats. My friends had mentioned the abula here was good. Nice size portion. Got it with assorted meat. Wish the meat was more tender, but that's a preference thing. Also wish you could choose which protein. I didn't care for some of the assorted. So it felt like a waste. Went on a Sunday to pick up and there were lots of people eating inside and coming and going. Not my first time ordering, last time we got jollof rice and it was not bad. read more

The food was amazing, restaurant was clean-- oh and here's a better one- the staff were friendly and professional including the owner who was gracious enough to stop at our table to ensure we were taken care of. I've tried this restaurant twice. The first time was a year or so ago. It's still a huge NO for me. In fact, the food has seemingly gotten worse. I recently placed an order through UberEats, and the food I received wasn't suitable for a dog. The goat meat was so tough I thought I was chewing tire rubber. Not to mention the cow leg... It was so tough my fork couldn't pierce it and neither could my teeth. It would've taken a chainsaw to cut through that undercooked piece of rock. The jollof rice and plantains were delicious and the only edible items in my order. Imagine how upsetting it is paying $36.75 and only being able to enjoy rice and plantains. This place will never get another dime out of me. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!! I'm not sure what happened to the bad (but honest) review I left a few years ago. The BEST Nigerian restaurant in the dfw, hands down! The customer service is elite, the food comes in a timely manner. Salt N Pepper is what all Nigerian restaurants in America should be like. I am a Nigerian woman and typically the restaurants I go to do not have good customer service or serve the food in a timely manner. Salt N pepper deserves the 5 stars because they make you feel comfortable and speak to you with kindness. I ordered the amala with gbegiri and ewedu soup. When I tell you it was TOP TEIR!!!! Flavor was amazing and fresh, it's as if someones grandmother was cooking in the kitchen of the restaurant. The waitress was so kind she checked on us to see if we needed anything and how we liked the food. She did not bother at all, checked in at appropriate times. When we first entered, we sat where we wanted and immediately were served water without even having to ask. I could honestly write a book of how proud and delighted I was to come to Salt N Pepper. I wish it wasn't so far from where I lived because I would be there everyday! I heard do much good about this place and I reallllllly wanted to like the food but the smell of the restaurant and the food that day was horrible. I'm used to smelly food but we couldn't handle this- it smelled like a public bathroom. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to smell that way. Let me start with the good parts first. The Okra soup was very very good. The menu did not have the correct prices on it. The pounded yam I ordered with Okra soup was $2 more than the menu said. I ordered 2 sodas because they came in these old school 12 oz bottles. The menu said $2.50 but my ticket said $7. When I went to pay the bill, I asked about the price discrepancy. I asked the waitress who served my food and drinks to me. Another waitress answered; saying the menu needed to be updated. Didn't they think customers should have been advised of this before ordering and eating or did they just want to pocket extra money any way they see fit? I will never eat there again. read more

When I explained to the young lady that instead of chicken I wanted goat she loudly and clearly in frustration said, " oh god"!!!!!! So I randomly was in this part of town and I decided to stop by and see what all the hype was about.. first my GPS took me around in a circle because they have not officially put up a sign to the restaurant so please look out for it.. when I walked in it wasn't super busy but the kitchen was definitely moving. The mom and daughter team at the front were very kind and polite. I ordered the Abula and let me tell you,this hands down is one of the best gbegiri and ewedu I have had in a long time! It was the correct amount of spice and seasoning. The meat was tender to chew and properly cooked. I got my food to go and I came out super fast! This cute Nigerian restaurant is the definition of family-owned. I visited for the first time with my friend and sister. The vibe of the restaurant is comfy-casual. We were greeted by owners and seated immediately. With Nigerian music playing on the speakers, we were handed menus. My companions already knew what they wanted to eat, but I'm always indecisive when it comes to food so I needed more time. Shoutout to our server for being patient with me! Everyone was so nice and attentive. The food came in within a reasonable amount of time. It all tasted amazing!! I ordered from Uber eats. My mouth is currently on fire from the Pepper Soup and it's totally worth it - IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! I'll definitely order again. I also ordered the white rice, red stew with beef meal and a extra side of goat meat. I didn't care for the flavor of the red stew, it just felt like something was missing. The beef was a bit tough for me but not inedible, it was a good large size per piece & it included three pieces. I received one piece of goat meat and It was delicious and tender. It's the best Nigerian food in DFW, best I've had in the US; the Okro reminds of me of my grandmothers cooking. The reason for the low rating is the price and inconsistent service. Service was 50/50 in 4 visits. $27 is ridiculous for fufu and Okro. I got charged extra for ordering fufu (order would have been $3) I'd rather buy just the Okro. The beef is always tough & the "red stew" is orange due to the excess of habanero peppers in the dish. The food also tastes bland to me. Spicy, yet no taste. I eat a lot of Nigerian food from other restaurants in the area & their red stew is almost inedible due to how spicy it is. Also, for the price point, enough food is not given. Excellent customer service and delicious food! From the time you order to pick up, their communication is professional and prompt. All the dishes I ordered, jollof, fried rice( with plenty shrimps and liver), moi moi, gizzdodo, all so tasty and you can tell they didn't skimp on using quality ingredients. Oh and by the way their sausage roll is to die for! It is such a relief to have a restaurant that makes Nigerian dishes with staff who are professional in all aspects of their business. Taste wise the food is good. I ordered Ayamase stew today and there were 3 tiny pieces of meat and my food was $19 and change. I still added a tip on top of that. That is highly ridiculous and a rip off. It's happened to me twice and I just thought it was a mistake. I guess it's a trend now to over charge people. Lastly, customer service is horrible. I wish our people can do better in this department. You are always met with aggression and attitude as if as a customer you need to beg to patronize their establishment. I definitely will never waste time and money coming to this establishment. As a Nigerian, I try to patronize my people when I need to go out and can not cook. Honestly, it's not worth it at all. I order the goat pepper soup and a side of fufu every time I come here. When I lived closer I would order 3 times a week but now that I live an hour away I come 2 times a month to order the soup and the fufu. The owner is always nice and comes by to say hi. I appreciate the staff and the owner for always being engaged with the customer. Thank you for the best soup. I called to order in advance and the person who answered the phone was having a conversation with someone else while I waited for him to take my order which I felt was very unprofessional so I hanged up to let him finish his conversation then called back. He apologized when I called back for the 2nd time which I thought was very nice. I ordered the egusi with goat meat and pounded yam. The egusi was pretty good but the goat meat barely had meat to it just bones which was disappointing. I also had the pepper soup and my problem is that it was sooooo unbarebly spicy.. of course Pepper soup is supposed to be spice but in all my years i have never tasted something that was so spicy u couldn't even eat it. Nice setup-casual dining, extremely clean but bad service. Waitress was rude and uncourteous. Everything we asked of her she acted as if we were bothering her. We attempted to order a tilapia dish but she rudely said you can't order that it takes over 45 mins to cook -no apologies offered. We asked for the type of fish in one of the dishes. She didn't know but did not attempt to ask someone else who would possibly be able to provide that information. After we finally made our selection the food was delivered to our table and was nicely plated; it looked beautiful, but unfortunately the food was cold! It's no surprise that the restaurant smelled of some type of candles as opposed to food! We ordered 3 entrees approximately 16.00 per plate and all 3 were cold! I don't know which was colder-the food or our waitress! We drove over an hour so my cousin could eat African food for the first time.
