Beautiful location near the beach and the interior really well thought out with a tropical feel. The classic Margarita is always my choice first time at a Mexican restaurant. The margarita here is solid. Chips and guacamole were ok with the guacamole needing a bit more lime and salt. I tried the Baja fish taco and the grilled shrimp taco. The fish taco mango sauce was sweet and I like the concept but felt that the sauce was too overwhelming on the fish taco. This is a case where I felt perhaps less is more. While I liked the earthy and Smokey flavor of the shrimp taco, again the ancho sauce overpowered the plump shrimp. I wish the proteins themselves would stand out more. Our first time at this relatively new Mexican spot in Del Mar Village was a really good experience. We happened to be there at their Happy Hour and we made a tasty and filling dinner of that! We went for happy hour and it was fab!!! We walked up from the beach (only 10 minutes away) which was easy and lovely. They have a simple, yet delicious menu and fast service. Our waiter was awesome and completely on it. They also have great outside seating with a fun vibe and offer free house made chips + salsa - so so good. We tried their house margaritas and they were perfect - not too sweet and perfectly balanced. Their chips and guac was authentic as well but not flavorful enough. We popped in for dinner last night and this place is such a vibe. Great music choices that add to the fun theme of the restaurant. Dog friendly restaurant due to its patio/outdoor concept. It is cozy and inviting. The hostess was helpful and cheery finding us a nice table under a heat lamp, and even though we came an hour before closing a lot of people were still eating. Our server was so incredibly nice along with all the other staff we interacted with. The signature restaurant salad was huge and fresh, the guacamole was authentic, and our sides and tacos were delicious. I will say the shrimp and tuna tostadas were a bit suspicious in terms of freshness and had a smell to them. But totally our fault for ordering them at 8PM - probably should stick with cooked seafood that late in the day. Will def be back! read more

It seemed like everything was just severely under seasoned, no salt no spice, and didn't taste very authentic. I went during happy hour so luckily I didn't have to pay full price on the items I ordered, if I did I would've been even more disappointed. The asada taco was not good, the steak was dry and unseasoned. The chicken Al pastor taco was just ok. Even the guac lacked flavor. Really great Mexican food in Del Mar with an amazing view of the ocean! We celebrated my birthday here over the weekend and both the food and the service were wonderful!! As for food, aside from the complimentary chips that were pretty good & seasoned, it didn't really live up to the price. My shrimp would've been better had it been lightly fried rather than a deep fry, which made the shrimp pretty firm. The sauce was good but not exceptional. I considered tacos, but since they do not do Taco Tuesday specials, paying $9-12 per taco (very small) wasn't very enticing when there's so many options in San Diego. One was filling, and so good I got 2 to go for tomorrow. Salt + Lime is definitely trying to appeal to the IG masses: cute neon signs, fake floral decorations overlooking the ocean and a cocktail are very instagrammable. But the biggest irony is that for a place with salt and lime in its name, most of the food was lacking either! The Baja fish tacos were dry and flavorless and the guacamole was just mashed avocado without anything else (how about fresh tomato, cilantro, or dare I suggest, a squeeze of lime?!) The one thing that actually tasted the best was our son's chicken quesadilla. However, while it was supposed to be a "kids quesadilla", it was enormous! I mean, literally it must have been 2 giant tortillas plus a massive plate of rice and beans. I guess for $17 it was certainly enough food but the portions were mismatched - our tacos were small and expensive while his plate was huge and expensive. We spent over $100 on 3 of us (one of whom is a child) with no alcohol purchases. I'm willing to spend good money for great food but this place was just expensive and bland - Mexican food pared-down for the Caucasian elite of Del Mar. read more

This is in a prime location and the decor is wonderful but it's a tight squeeze at the bar so we chose to wait for a table. Our server was an older gentlemen that was great but the food and drinks weren't all that impressive and overpriced for what it was. The queso barely had queso but a lot of chicharrón, I would've liked it more if the steak was smaller pieces instead of giant pieces that are harder to break down because they're charred. The coco limón was pretty strong, that's not usually a bad thing but I wanted something refreshing and light and this seemed to be the lightest on the menu and wasn't. I had high hopes for this place as I was arriving for my dinner reservation. Let's talk about some of the good things first, though: This place looks nice. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy, modern and pretty cool looking. Service is also pretty decent. We were checked on often and our food graced our tables promptly. No complaints there. Where this place falls short is the food quality and taste which to me, doesn't justify the money you're spending at a place like this. $36 for 3 tacos is quite steep and the tacos themselves should be delicious enough to justify the price, but they're sadly underwhelming. Plus, no good Mexican place is above taco Tuesday, but this restaurant seems to think they're too good for traditional midweek specials. Just to be clear, I didn't order 3 tacos, but I had to order one just to see how it would taste so I could leave a more transparent review of the dining experience at the Salt & Lime. My party wasn't wowed by their food either, especially the sweet & sour popcorn shrimp. It was far too deep fried that the texture lost all semblance of its past delicious self. I unfortunately can't recommend this place unless they step it up. The Salt & Lime wasn't horrible, but the whole experience regarding the food felt pretty mediocre. read more

I must admit, this place surprised me! It was absolutely delicious. My first time there and love how it's al fresco dining (also dog-friendly--which my puppy had the time of his life eating tortilla chip crumbs off the floor) and the classy beachy whimsical decor is enchanting. I couldn't resist ordering the tacos so I went with the - Asada: This one was a bit disappointing, I felt it was dry and needed more flavor - Chicken Al Pastor: Bursting with flavor, I'm a sucker for pickled onions and the melted cheese crisp in the taco really set it off! - Quesabirria: PHENOMENAL! We went to Lime & Salt for dinner last night. I have been to their food truck twice before, but this is my first time getting to the new brick and mortar restaurant in downtown Del Mar. There was a line waiting to get in - we had a reservation, but there was still a little wait as there wasn't an empty seat in the hotel. Very impressive since the restaurant just opened two weeks ago. If you have been to the food truck, you will only recognize a couple of the items. Kudos to Alan and his team for not simply offering the exact same dishes. They also offer an outstanding cocktail menu - we got three different types and they were all really refreshing and delicious. Service was outstanding, and we tried a selection of their tacos, ceviche and tostadas. I will admit that the tostadas always used to be my favorite item on the menu, and even though I haven't tried everything on the new menu yet, there's still one of my absolute favorites. During the time we ate tonight, it was a line of people wanting to come in. Food is fantastic, very cool vibes, the decor is warm and inviting. What a nice surprise. Came here on a friend's suggestion for a casual dinner with girlfriends (5 of us). 3 of us met at the bar early and I had their signature Espresso martini with with liquor 43 (I had 3 that night). The bartender made it perfectly. We got to the table and ordered queso fundido, chips and guac and while I'm not vegetarian/vegan the heart of palm ceviche sounded good. The latter of the 3 was nice, light and flavorful. For dinner I shared the sinaloa tostada, another friend had a steak taco, and the ceasar salad with shrimp. Our server Anika was great. She was very attentive/responsive and accurate. Adrian, who I think might have been the manger came to check on us often and brought us a sample of a drink they are thinking about adding to the menu. I'd definitely recommend this spot to other people/friends. It's in a great location, with underground parking, close to the water. We sat at the outdoor patio. It was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but not too loud that we couldn't hear one another. It's casual and good for date, girls, brunch/daytime, or just for drinks. read more
