This was a great little speakeasy with some great views of the track. The drinks were strong, which is why I may not remember what I ordered, ha. It was really good, though!! Service was quick and friendly! They had some cool souvenir cups. Didn't open til 3pm just an FYI for anyone trying to go earlier. This was on a Friday. I'm not sure if that is their regular opening time other days. Would definitely return in the future to try the 4-tier patron flight.

Destination Unknown has been on my bucket list to checkout and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great, a beautiful set up with a great view of the other half of the fair. Service was great, our server was an absolute gem. She made our experience even better than we already enjoyed. Drinks are pricy, but it's to be expected, they were big and strong drinks though so value for the drinks was worth it. The drinks were tasty, and well balanced, not too spirit forward but not like you're trying to hunt for the alcohol.

Amazing! This not-so-secret speakeasy is a gem when you need to get away from fair chaos. The cocktail was great. The server was nice. No complaints from us. P.s. outdoor seating in the evening is perfect.

Love having this "speakeasy" at the fair this year. Set high up on the 6th floor you get a nice sweeping view of the lit up at night it's fantastic. The finding of this place, for us was the most difficult part so the Destination Unknown was a great moniker. We went straight up to the bar before seating to order some drinks. The bartender was super friendly, and the drinks were poured nice and stiff, keeping that speakeasy vibe. The design of the interior was pretty awesome and well thought out, versus just slapped together. It was not busy when we went, close to closing time and we could sit pretty much anywhere we wanted. They have bar seats set up on a viewing deck, or you can sit on the rattan style chairs that sort of encapsulates small areas to keep you in your own little area in a way. On the way out one of the other bartenders, in noticing my Star Wars shirt, gave me some Yoda facts. The drinks here are pretty pricy, but I have yet to go to a speakeasy or tiki bar where they are not. Also, the pours are solid, so you get what you pay for. My only detractor is that this will be converting back to the restaurant once the fair is over. I would love to be able to just go here, without having to go through the entire fair rigamarole with parking and massive crowds =)

Secret bar at the top of the San Diego fair , tiki style with many rum style drinks & towers of cocktails that looked really cute! I tried the Mai tai it was good very strong like a Mai tai should be haha! I sat in an area where u could see the whole view of the track & the kid side of the fair it was very cool and I think one side has a seating area with full service. It was such a fun time like a quick escape from the chaos of the fair I would recommend a quick stop for a yummy cocktail!

Destination Unknown is a speakeasy bar very well hidden. You have to go through undercover entries to find your way to the top. You also need a special password to get it. Good luck finding it lol. Fun fun fun.

My friends and I came here for drinks while we were at the Fair. We were provided the pass phrase at a location we were directed to when we got to the entrance. You need to show your ID to obtain a wristband and pass phrase to get inside. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There is a very nice view of the racetrack and fair. You can pick wherever you want to sit. Service was really good. We shared a patron cocktail flight that was perfect for the 4 of us.

We arrived early on a Friday evening, and thankfully it wasn't crowded. Since they don't take reservations, getting there early is definitely the way to go. We ordered the Dealer's Choice, which was refreshing, balanced, and beautifully presented. We also tried one of their stronger signature cocktails, and they definitely don't hold back -- there's a reason they limit those drinks to two per person! Both drinks were creative and well-crafted. The bartenders clearly know their craft, and the drink presentation was outstanding. Service was good, although not especially memorable, which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. One thing that would make the experience even more immersive would be if the entire staff wore cowboy attire to match the Old West theme. With the speakeasy setting and vintage decor, it would add a fun touch and make the experience feel even more authentic. Overall, Twain Speakeasy offers excellent cocktails, good music, and a unique atmosphere. I would definitely come back again, and my recommendation is to arrive early since reservations aren't available and I can see this place filling up quickly on busy nights.

Reservations are encouraged but not mandatory as I saw numerous people get in as walk ins before my reservation. Walk-ins are seated at the bar and limited to 1 hour. For reservations they do not seat early even if you check in early. No dress code, saw people with tube tops and flip flops. They sell lots of different types of alcohol in their store. I purchased a $33 bottle of Amaretto that said it had a cookie essence. Bar Entry: The hostess will check ID and then you sit or stand on the platform and it slowly spins you around to the inside. Bathrooms are on the left and exit on the right. Our server was great and listened to what we wanted in a drink and offered options. Tried: Amuse $4 - we were celebrating a birthday so these were offered as birthday shots. Amaretto sour $18 - very good. Smooth and not too strong. French kiss - very strong. Didn't like this one. Mint mojito mocktail (aka dealers choice) $11 - this was so good and refreshing. I love the atmosphere inside. We were seated in throne like chairs which was very cool. We made a reservation and although we arrived on time, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

Minuses: when the waitress was clearing the oyster plate from the table, she spilled a bit on my boyfriend. Okay, mistakes happen, but rather than responding with an apology and a napkin, she just said that there was too much ice on the plate ??? After my boyfriend cleaned it up, he kindly requested another napkin... she said okay then brought the napkin over to another person at the table. It felt very weird and uncomfortable. Also, the happy hour food we received (crab cakes and a slider) were laughably small... i wish I took a picture but it was nothing I wanted to remember. This place has potential but the customer service has room for improvement and the food portions should be reconsidered... or at least be consistent- the table next to us said they also ordered from the happy hour menu but their crab cakes looked nothing like ours. Disappointing

We tried the Potatoes, Sandwich (aka Jackfruit Bao Buns), Paella Rice (our family's favorite!), Lemon Pepper Tofu, and the Charred Zaatar Roti. The Paella Rice was the standout dish for us. Service was warm and attentive, and they made the birthday celebration extra special by surprising the birthday boy with a complimentary dollop of soft serve, which was a really thoughtful touch. The only reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars: the limited menu (in addition to this food menu, wish they would include also include some more appetizers from their sister establishments, so guests can sit back and enjoy their creative and in some cases strong cocktails! And the fact that they can't accommodate parties larger than six due to the seating layout. If you have a bigger family or group, that can make celebrating together a little tricky. Overall, such a unique spot that's worth visiting at least once for the atmosphere alone!
