Salt is a newer restaurant/speakeasy in the area with a romantic yet sophisticated vibe. I had a girls night here and we had a blast. We had the Burrata as an appetizer, yummy! And the Meatballs, Gnocchi, & Crusted Tuna as our meals. We all enjoyed our meals. I plan to come back here for a date night with my husband. The service is great, quick, & the waiter is helpful with offering recommendations. I do recommend getting reservations for Friday or Saturdays since they are a popular place for dinner those evenings. read more

The server was fantastic. The atmosphere is good. Great selection of bourbons, whisky, tequila. Portions are small for the price. I understand inflation is rampant, but I refuse to pay $4 for an oyster. Two of us dinned, each of us had an entree, I had one vodka and 7up, she had water, no hors d'oeuvres. With tip, the bill was $105. Perhaps if you are on an expense account it's a good place to go. But truthfully, I won't be returning. read more

The food here is very good! I ordered gnocchi and spinach, and it was delicious! I also tried the calamari and wagyu meatballs which were phenomenal. However, I went with a few other people and we all agreed that the service (maybe just the waiter we had) was not as great as the food. They didn't even offer a dessert menu and we felt like he was just trying to get us to leave. I think I would go back, I just hope we have better service! read more

Location/ambience: below Open Road. Romantic/cozy vibes inside. Perfect for an intimate date but also a small get together with friends. Also appreciated their clean restroom. Parking: we parked in the nearby parking lot ($) for convenience. Covid precautions: the tables are safely distanced apart and all employees were wearing masks. I felt safe throughout. Reservation: We made an early dinner reservation (5:30pm) on a Friday. Since it was pretty early & due to covid, the place was fairly empty but picked up throughout the night. Happy Hour was till 7pm ($3 of seasonal cocktails, $5 off wagyu burgers, etc.) Food: Peking Duck Steamed Buns - great snack! We didn't plan on eating here but had too much to drink and thought it'd be a good idea to eat something. Truffle chips - a bit too salty for my taste but my husband finished the entire thing. Cocktails/service: 5/5! We had 13 drinks between the two of us (oops) so we clearly enjoyed the drinks. We tried every cocktail on the menu (except the old fashioned) and I appreciated that none of the drinks were overly sweet and had a nice depth of flavor (ok, the Bees Knees was the sweetest drink of the bunch which was to be expected but that honey foam was delicious/fun and I'd 100% order it again). We had a hard time finding this place, it is located on the lower level of the bar. You have to enter through a wooden door to get into the restaurant. The food is outstanding, the service is great! We ordered number of appetizers and one meal to share. We had warm Caesar salad, shrimp(gambas), wagyu meatballs, pork belly steam bun, pork belly tataki, gnocchi (my favorite), tougarashi crusted tuna(meal) - everything was outstanding! Omg the duck buns were amazing!!! This place was super hidden, the entrance looks like a wooden walk, didn't even notice a door. I've recently made this place a staple in my wheelhouse and it is well deserved. The staff really makes this place shine, through genuine and knowledgeable interactions, thoughtful suggestions, and a level of sincere service that you'll have a hard time finding elsewhere. The food menu: Simple, thoughtful (viable choices for everyone), balanced, and unbelievably delicious. - Wagyu burger: from the bun to the meat and accoutrements... wow. I even took the half I couldn't finish home for leftovers, and I generally do not do leftovers. - Peking duck steamed buns: My favorite item, hands down. Spicy, but not overpowering. The duck is as near perfect as I've ever had. The spices are amazing, the sauce is delicious, and the cucumber and other ingredients all compliment each other. - Wagyu hummus: I don't know if the star of this dish is the creamy hummus, the minced Wagyu, or the absolutely wonderful flatbread that accompanies, but it is a must if this is your kind of app. - Seared ahi tuna: I did not order this dish (ahi dishes are admittedly not my thing), but I did steal a few bites. The flavor and consistency of the udon noodles was fantastic. It could be a dish in itself. Enter the ahi and it is a wonderfully unexpected creation that any ahi lover will enjoy. Packed with complimentary flavor and textures. It definitely works. - Burrata: If burrata is your thing, this is a must. Wow. The cocktail menu: This is the real reason I come to Salt. The cocktail menu is absolutely something you will tell all of your friends and family about, and rightfully so. I won't go into each drink, but I've tried them all over two quarterly menu refreshes, now. Bourbon/gin/mezcal/vodka/moonshine... they've got something for everyone, and all of them are for me. It would be blasphemy to leave here without trying one and the staff can definitely help you choose, based off of your booze and flavor preferences. If I could give them ten stars, I would! Possibly one of the best hidden gems in the area. A girl friend and I didn't have a reservation, so we asked to be put on the waitlist although it was the weekend of Valentine's. It wasn't until 5 minutes later when we received notification that our table was ready! The restaurant had a great ambiance with the perfect lighting of not being too dark. I started off with a delicious espresso martini and my friend enjoyed their special Valentine's Day moonshine beverage. I wasn't too interested in the drinks listed on their menu, but our waiter kept us entertained with three different vodka-based drinks that tasted fantastic. I ordered gnocchi for my entrée and it was nothing less than perfect, it was creamy and just the right portion. We made one last stop at the bar before leaving and the bartender made us a smooth lemon basil shot. All of the staff was great; however, our waiter as well as the bartender were exceptional. Surprised that no one has reviewed yet, so I'll kick things off. Went last weekend, so pretty early in the place's tenure, and had a nice dinner. A few observations: Design: I like how it was integrated in the overall space with Open Road, having access through a separate, solid door so it feels somewhat exclusive and secluded, but not obnoxious or gimmicky like a lot of hideaway bars (press the special button, etc.). Once inside, the space is nicely laid out and well accented; the only quibble I might have is that the hostess stand sort of jumps right out (you basically open the door right into it). Thumbs up for the music - lounge / club tunes that would be at home in an upscale place in Europe, pretty edgy for Rosslyn. Food: Very nicely done. The burrata and carpaccio were on par with anything you'd get at a high-end Italian place (I think that they actually beat out Sfoglina across the way, sorry Fabio). The gambas al ajillo were a dish which I actually was kicking myself for ordering - 9 times out of 10 this is a throwaway, just a few shrimp in some canned tomato sauce. But to my surprise, this was excellently prepared, both in flavor and in structure / texture, with each shrimp perched atop its own piece of nicely toasted bread. And then there's the burger, which I'd say was top 5 of all time - just really, really nicely done. I was highly skeptical of a burger with no sides at the $20 price point, but no longer...it's worth it. Service: I think that this is an area that could be improved a bit. This is really the first nice place in the area and the design and food deliver, so the front-of-house staff could own it a little bit and really bring a professional, high-end, big-city vibe. However, the feel that I got was a bit more like what would belong in a Mike Cordero restaurant - there were some very bro-ish statements heard (that I won't quote because I don't want to call anyone out), staff huddling in the front to loudly discuss flying formation / operations, and other stuff that just wasn't very polished. I know that service is always the weakest link in D.C., but if they could find a couple folks that would be at home in a Chicago / Philadelphia / NYC high-end bar then it would really elevate the vibe. Overall: Having lived in the area for a decade, i've always scratched my head as to why Rosslyn doesn't have higher-end options. The employers in the area should be more than enough to provide an amble supply of well-resourced customers. A couple of expense-account happy hours per night is all it takes. Salt definitely fits the bill and is a welcome addition that I think both locals and business customers will appreciate. If they can elevate the service then I think that it will take it to a next level. read more

Such a fun spot! It's a bit confusing because you see the sign for salt but you don't see the bar at first. There is a wooden wall and one is a door which you have to push to get into the actual bar. It's a small space so don't come with a big group. Came on a Wednesday for happy hour and waited about 15 minutes to find a spot at the bar, there were waits for tables. Salt is easily the worst "speakeasy" I've ever experienced. FYI If you have trouble finding the restaurant, I have a hint for you (look for the signage and floor mat that say SALT in big bold letters). After walking through the doors, you're met with a bar with a promising, niceaesthetic. The restaurant is pretty small, which gives it a cozy feel. However, once you've entered the seating area, it might give you flashbacks of that one time you stayed at a motel and had a dreadful experience. I mean the decor made me feel like I was in an AMF bowling Alley, nothing like what I expected. Despite my disappointment I was so excited to see what was on the menu. Absolutely nothing sounded appealing. It was like choosing the lesser of two evils. While contemplating what I wanted to eat I ordered two drinks. One of which tasted like grapefruit juice and cigarette smoke. The other was what ended up being the worst Mai Thai I've ever had. My friend said her drink tasted like carpet. Food-wise, I decided to order a seared tuna dish. It was served with noodles and sautéed vegetables, very interesting combo to say the least. Somehow I had faith that they'd be able to tie everything together flavor-wise. However, the tuna tasted like Holiday Inn bedsheets. The vegetables that were sautéed within had a burnt, bitter taste as well. It's as if they placed it on the menu with no intentions of anyone ordering it. Maybe I should've known better. I think the only good thing I tried that night was a hummus dish my friend ordered. The service was great, but everything else was a disappointment. read more

Service was extremely slow. Drinks took minimum 30 minutes to come out. The time limit of two hours was only a bit disappointing when you add in the slow service. The drinks were good but the particular drink I ordered, was half full (and that's being generous) as they have the long rectangular ice cubes that take up most of the space of the glass. Great location for an intimate wine night or dinner- I only came for drinks and had excellent service and an excellent glass of wine. The booths were very cozy, and the mood lighting was great- lots of soft lighting. It's a little tricky to find in Rosslyn, as you have to go down a level from the street with all the buses, but a very cool, speakeasy-esque vibe. If you want a good date location, they also have a very classy menu for dessert, coffee, and drinks in general. I came here for my b-day with my husband. We ordered Togarashi Crusted Tuna and Wagyu Burger. We got seated next to very loud old women, and we asked for another seat at the booth. They said it's for group of 4, so we understood but they give the seat to group of 2. One of loud old women ordered the same food as mine without udon noodle. They messed up with her order and mine. Food was not worth the price. Drinks were not strong enough to call themselves as speakeasy bar. I would've given them 2 stars if they switch the seat at least. read more
