A charming cafe
Rima Z.

I have to update my review to express my undying love of Green Mountain olive oil, which the owner imports from his olive groves in Lebanon. I buy it by the jug (approx 3 liters). It has such a bright flavor and goes with everything. Insider tip: discount when you return the container. Also, I recently had the opportunity to try their self-made pistachio halvah. Typically, this dessert squeaks in your teeth, and any additions are just overpowered by the sesame flavor. This was absolutely delicious. The texture was firm, chewy, (no squeaks!) and the pistachios were plentiful and flavorful. My friend recommended drizzling carob molasses over it... complete game changer! Incredible flavor. I have to admit, I licked my plate (hey, I was at home. No one saw me.) Salt and Sugar. You gotta go.

Iced mocha, orange juice, and cookie
Jessy P.

Popped in for Mother's Day and to fill my craving for waffles. Street parking out front is super easy to snag if you're going first thing and theres a cute patio out front to sit with your pupper and enjoy your noms. Being preggo, I went with a smaller iced mocha and a traditional waffle. Hubs went with the combo and fresh orang juice....and a cookie because, why not?! Everything was delicious and truly hit my waffle craving-fluffy and light with delicious syrup! Service was very friendly and helpful. Everything was super clean and made breakfast super enjoyable while being physically uncomfortable haha! We will definitely be back after baby girl arrives...though I may be sending hubs over for pickup!

Blueberry Lemon Scone and Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte

The cashier was very friendly and the atmosphere was cute. My Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte was very good. I would definitely recommend it. However, the scone was very dry. It did have good flavor though.

Turkey Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Scone Sandwich

I love that they have their sandwiches on scones! I also liked that you can get full of half waffles. The carob latte was interesting though I don't know that it was my favorite personally. I'd probably try another unique house drink. The service was kind and helpful. I think they were maybe a bit understaffed with drinks as the food came out first. Very lovely ambiance and dog friendly which were awesome! We would certainly come back and I really want to try some of the lunch items!

Washington Waffle Cardamom Latte
Monica M.

Cute little bakery and cafe that (thankfully) serves simple breakfast dishes up until they close (3pm on Sunday). We tried the filled waffle - called a Washington waffle - that has pastrami in the waffle batter, topped with cheese and fresh apple slices, served with apple butter on the side. There was too much cheese for us because we didn't eat it fast enough. Not a fan of coagulated cheese But overall tasted great. My partner thought it was a bit dry but that's because he loves syrup/sauce on his waffles. The lattes were OK. The Cardamom latte literally has a sprinkling of cardamom, so it wasn't as fragrant as I had hoped. Even with an extra dash of cardamom i would not order that one again. The peppermint mocha was delicious though. All in all, it's a good place to pick up a quick snack or breakfast bite but it doesn't make my "must bring out of town guests here" list.

Homemade Labneh wrap
Jennifer H.

Came here for a Sunday brunch after working out nearby. Been meaning to check it out for a while since it's not far from where I live. It is an unassuming cafe but has a good deal of food to choose from. There is a menu of coffee and a lot of tea as well. The menu items are mostly breakfast sandwiches and waffles. They even have savory waffles. I decided to try the labneh wrap with fried eggs as it was recommended and sounded like a unique dish. I like that there is a middle eastern influence here and some of the pastries sound enticing. Unfortunately I didn't love the wrap, mainly because it seemed a bit stale/dry and was not heated up at all. The filling was pretty good and I did like the combo of the eggs with the labneh. There was also some fresh tomatoes and arugula inside which was a nice touch. The service was decent although you have to pick up your food and bus the table yourself so it's not like a full service restaurant. I would like to come back here to try the savory waffle possible or perhaps just a pastry and tea.

8oz coffee mocha
Marcus S.

Seeing all the Waffle options here, I always wanted to try Salt and Sugar. Came on a Saturday morning to finally try one and warm up with some coffee. Mornings definitely seem to be the busiest, with mostly with folks getting takeout coffee to go, but there were a number of folks like my party dining in. I got a Hot mocha to start which was good. They have two styles of waffle offerings - sweet and savory, hence the titular name of the cafe. I got the "Cobbler", a sweet waffle that had lots of fresh blueberries, streusel and whipped cream. It was quite good, not too crispy, but not too soft either. The savory waffles include options like the Hummingbird which is a waffle stuffed with spinach and goat cheese, topped with nuts or the BLT waffle which has of course bacon, tomato, cheese, with pesto and more. I like premise of being primarily a waffle spot and cafe. There are over well over 10 waffle styles and combinations to choose from. There isn't Waffle House out here, so this is the next best thing!

20 dollar quiche and burnt cold brew

I only write this less than spectacular review because I no longer see the owner who I absolutely love. I ate here almost daily in the spring and summer of 2024, And the food, service and energy was second to none. Lina and Anna behind the counter were an absolute marvel. It seemed as soon as Lina Left, and the owner went to Lebanon, the place took a very bad turn for the worse. I recall seeing Anna over worked and under paid , and when I came and she wasn't working on certain days, the food was terrible and service was almost hostile. I don't know what happened, but I chose to not frequent the place nearly ever . Today I came in , ordered a small slice of quiche and an iced coffee, and spent 20dollars on it. It took them 30 minutes to reheat what appeared to be brought in quiche and burnt cold brew. By the time the food came , a family of 4 that ordered food that took actual kitchen work to make, was served well before me. The quiche was dry and the center was still cold. I sadly have given up on this place . Heartbreaking .

Ordered a scone and chocolate chip cookie. Both were stale. The cookie was inedible. Not what I would call "fresh" baked.

I've been to Un Bien 15th Ave NW location (OG location) but this time I went to another location…read more I've gotten the #1 (their best seller) which is always delicious, so this time I decided to venture toward their seafood options. The pricing is pretty good for rice bowls (probably an underrated order, though slightly smaller portions to the sandwich). I got the seafood in red sauce and got the scallops, which was priced at $10.75 for a satisfying meal - not too big but not too small. Hard to find seafood dishes at this price point so I appreciate it being fairly accessible in price. The red sauce is like a Cajun like sauce but not spicy - it is very flavorful. The pickled cabbage adds a bit of tang to the dish to accentuate the flavors of the other ingredients. I tried a bite of my friend's fish of the day (Mahi mahi) sandwich which has similar fixings to the Caribbean pork sandwich - always love their garlic aioli and caramelized onions. As typical, their sandwiches are very juicy so definitely get your hands messy or try your best eating it with utensils. As someone that enjoys to not get my hands dirty, I'd still recommend using your hands to savor all the flavors evenly in the sandwich! For first timers I'd recommend the #1 but you can't go wrong with other options for sure!

this sandwich was highly impressive as the main part of the…read moresandwich, it was pretty necessary that the pork be cooked to near-perfection, and i have to say it was here it gave off a deep, brown-ish color, which showed the extent of it's cooking and marination. It wasn't quite incredibly tender, but the marinade added an absolute ton of flavor. more importantly, it was present plentifully throughout the sandwich, so practically every bite came filled with pork I also have to mention how packed together the ingredients are between the buns. when you start eating, it's inevitable that a quarter of the ingredients will fall onto the wrap below, leaving a nice secondary meal to finish off after the sandwich is done. the sandwich is packed incredibly tight during the wrapping process, but it unravels a bit while eating. for me, the major highlights of this meal was the onions and the aioli Starting with the onions, these may be the best I've ever had on a sandwich. They're caramelized amazingly, placed onto the sandwich in astoundingly large pieces, are crunchy, and there's just a lot of them. They're just wonderful both texturally and taste-wise. This sandwich is absolutely lathered with aioli - practically dripping with it. This boosted the overall flavor so much, especially because this aioli was addictingly good. In my experience, the amount of sauce has been directly proportional to how much I enjoyed a sandwich, and when the sauce is this good - it's even on the top of the bun! - i absolutely loved it Somehow the lettuce stayed crunchy despite all the otherwise wetness going on in the sandwich. Props for that The jalapenos were great as well for that extra bit of spicy - I would've loved to have more of them while the bread was toasted well, the one downside was i thought it was pretty hard and tough, which made chewing kind of difficult. I found my jaw to be pretty tired at the end after eating this. I would've much preferred a softer roll that's easier to bite into I've had similar sandwiches from Paseo and Bongos, and in my opinion this does edge out both of those Comparing to Paseo, the sandwich there has way more oil, making it more sloppy and I do like the bread there a lot better, but the pork feels richer and better marinated here (although less fatty), and the onions are definitely caramelized better here as well. Bongos has a pretty similar level of pork with more, but onions are definitely a step down What moves this place above those two for me is the amount of aioli used here far exceeds those other places, which just makes the overall eating experience better For the price (about 14 dollars) this is a really filling meal

My husband and I were leaving the National Nordic Museum and wanted to grab some food to take home…read moreso we decided to order online at Mean Sandwich. My order was ready at the time that was specified (also received a text when it was done) and according to what I read, they keep your food on a warmer while they wait for you to pick it up. How nice! $20 for a sandwich seems pricey, but let me tell you, they definitely make a MEAN sandwich! The Mean - THICK pieces of juicy corned beef with housemade mustard, pickled red cabbage and mint. The cross section of the sandwich looks insane! The combination of flavors is excellent. The Hama Hama Oyster Po'Boy - Deep-fried Hama Hama yysters with housemade remoulade and lemon-pepper mayo. I loved this. The oysteres were nicely fried with not too much batter. You could really taste the oyster and appreciate the texture. The French roll was also very nice. It was similar to a Vietnamese Banh Mi roll. Soft, but with a light crispness on the outside. Fully Loaded Skins & Ins - Skins & Ins are basically a mixture of fried potato skins and potato chunks so you get a variety of texture: thin and crispy, or soft and meaty. The fully loaded option adds toppings similar to that of a loaded baked potato (white sauce, spices, scallions, and super crunchy bacon bits). This was a nice change from having the usual chips or fries with a sandwich. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge in this area, but if you're able to make it over then I think it's worth visiting.

I cannot say enough good things about this sandwich shop. The short review - this is a must try…read moreplace! This small shop in Ballard is somewhere you likely wouldn't stumble upon, but it is definitely worth seeking out. The shop itself is fairly small with a few booths, some window seating, and a few tables. We ordered our food to go, but there were a few spots open so we could have dined in had we preferred. The owner of the shop was there and help share about the menu. You can tell he is passionate about his restaurant and he answered all our questions. We even got to talking to him about some of his books he has in the shop that are different sandwich books and he was so knowledgeable on them, the chefs and more. We tried 3 different sandwiches - the steak tartar, the mean (corned beef) and the wtk (fried chicken). All three were a wonderful combinations of ingredients you would not see on an average sandwich shop menu and all three were delightful. In addition to the sandwiches, they come with potatoes which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside (aka. cooked to perfection.) We upgraded one of our potatoes to the loaded version and to no surprise it was also amazing. It runs on the slightly more expensive side for sandwiches, but for the quantity and quality you get it is worth it!

Seating is limited and there are also outdoor seating options as well. My group and I ordered chicken wings, pad see you, garlic noodles, green curry with purple multi grain rice, gyoza, a basil pork belly, and a bamee moo toon. I would have ordered sandwiches since that's part of their specialty but we needed dishes that were shareable and feastworthy. The green curry was rich and fragrant, which paired perfectly with the multigrain rice. There was an addictive quality about the garlic noodles, and the pork belly was as succulent as it was flavorful. The pad see you was excellent as expected, and the ba mee toon was the favorite of the table. Everything was roughly $90 before tip, and service was excellent the whole time. I appreciate the fact that they served everything on local dishware and the natural lighting from the windows made the food look incredible. Since there wasn't any dish was executed poorly, I was more than satisfied with my experience along with my dining mates.
