I am new to Chicago, so I purchased 2 coupons from Rue La La to Salon V. Even though my stylist David tried very hard to please me, I cringed the entire length of the haircut, both times. I was ready to throw the second coupon, but I figured I'll give him another chance. My entire head is chopped, and now, one week after my haircut, I can see how unprofessionally my hair was cut, I feel like getting out the scissors and correcting it myself. Everybody says that it looks ok, but I know it's not. I've been spoiled with very good stylists, and this one is definitely not, and definitely not worth $75. I think this is an absolutely ridiculous price for the quality of work! After such a bad experience I am ready to go pay $200, but to get a professional cut, luckily my friends referred me to other stylists that are apparently amazing and closer to the Loop. read more

David is a true artiste! I will never go to anyone else! He has shown me what to do with my curly hair and painstakingly shown me exactly how to style it- making a complicated style an easy daily routine with practice. Aveda's wonderful products (especially their botanical conditioning treatment) have brought my brittle, breakable hair back to life. David is worth every penny. His color is so exquisite- perfection, like his cutting. He is well-known in the field. And Lori is another perfectionist who provides beautiful manicures and pedicures with a very lovely demeanor. I should have probably written this review a long time ago, but better late than never. I used to live on the 1400 block of Dearborn, therefore this place was a hop and skip away. The owners are adorable sisters -in-laws with a lot of experience. After moving to Chicago in 2008, I had several hair appointments all around the city, trying to find the right one. I first came here on a whim, because they take walk ins. Now I wonder what I would do if Lina and Bona ever closed up shop or if I moved away. These are some of the nicest ladies I have ever met. The always give me tea, ask me about my family, and chat me up like they appreciate me as a pal. I have never had a bad experience here and their prices are very reasonable. I've been going here for almost a year now and I've gotten 3 haircuts in that time from Amanda. She knows exactly what I want and but definitely offers suggestions about what might look better or what products to use (Aveda, of course). They have a referral system that gives you a discount and I used that, and got my discount on the second visit. I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes once I walk in the door and they always offer to take my coat or give me tea. Really happy with this place! Make sure you bring cash to tip though! I have had nothing but great experiences at Salon V! I went to see Julio after noticing how great two of my friends' hair always looked (both see Julio). My first time, I went in for a color and gave him free reign to do as he pleased and I loved it! I wouldn't have thought to ask for it, and it was perfect for me. I got tons of compliments, even from strangers. Then when I unexpectedly had to undergo chemo and needed a wig, Julio was right there waiting to help (and now my wig gets compliments, too)! read more

I've been in this neighborhood for over 10 years and hair tech hands down does the best cut, color, and balayage. I get my cuts done with Grace or Gloria (the owner). After recommending Hair Tech to my friend, she now is a repeat customer too and she lives an hour away lol!! Last time I saw her, she got a crazy intricate Audrey Hepburn inspired bob cut with a million layers that took over an hour and only paid $15. The guy treated her hair like it was the tower of Pisa itself. I was hesitant to do a balayage because I have colored my hair a million times at home and other salons in my neighborhood and after shelling over $200 for a balayage elsewhere I didn't feel like it was worth it so I just didn't do anything to it for a year. I was on the fence between balayage and highlights, or doing nothing at all. I feel like colorists always try to do away the "brass" and get the blondes as BLONDE aka COOL as possible. I am not pale.. that doesn't look good on me.. So Gloria's work was SO worth it... she did exactly what I wanted, a HONEY Beyoncé/jlo blonde, EXCEPT her balayage is so nice and intricate it could pass for highlights because it looks so expensive unlike other colorists that do big chunks. I actually didn't want balayage or highlights before coming here, because highlights are too strippy and can look too mature on me contrasted with my dark asian hair, but balayage can be too blocky and look like a single processed color or ombré anyway. Gloria's work looks like a seamless blend of balayage and highlights, so this is perfect!!! I am mostly "blonde" (like a Beyonce one color) with the shimmery blends of different golden locks, the colored strips are super fine closer to my crown to the bottom my ears like highlights under close inspection, but blends in perfectly throughout the bottom as a balayage. GLORIA HITTING ALL THE NOTES WITHOUT ME EVEN ASKING. I was just gonna let her do her job because I wasn't sure what I wanted. AND for half the price the other salon cost me. You know how sometimes even when things are done right you have hair remorse until you get used to your new hair? I never feel like that here, I feel like wow I need to go out right now with this hair!!! I definitely left feeling so pretty. Ps. All the staff are super friendly and feel like family. Gloria is very funny and fun to talk to, but won't if you don't want to. She doesn't ask you a million questions about yourself like other stylists. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to kick back and chill. They just do their job, are punctual and professional, get the job done and EXCEL for better prices than anywhere in Chicago. I went to solo Solon back in 2018 and booked an appointment with Joey. It was probably the best 5 hours spent - Joey was sooooo patient with my stubborn asian hair, and needless to say, I looked fabulous. Soon after Joey moved to another salon, I followed him to keep up with my hair appointments. There's never been any disappointment or anything less than positive experience with Joey. I would say "I think my hair needs some touch up", and Joey would say "oh yes it does, hon". And you will be in good hands. And by good hands, I mean you will be so pleasantly surprised by how you look right afterwards, a little surprised and trying to get used to the new look. But then 3 days later you look into the mirror and you're like, oh jeez why do I look so good????? The coloring is so multidimensional - I've gotten so many compliments for my hair. I broke up with above-mentioned guy in June, and I went to see Joey again. "I want a change because I'm back on the market," I said. "I think maybe I want to go brunette again." Joey looked at me and said, "my dear, let's lighten you up this time because of the things you're going through. It's a touch time and darker tone will only weigh you down." That moment I felt like Joey truly cares, that he takes care of not only my hair or my looks, but my soul (really). Fast forward to January 2020, Joey moved to Fusion Hair Studio, and I had my appointment with him again. I always walked out with the happiest, most genuine smile on my face, thanks to Joey.
