I went to Salon V because I needed a hair style the same day for an event, and it was almost the only place that was open till 6pm on Saturday. I made an appointment with David, and he did an amazing job! I didn't know the exact style that I wanted (that was just a blowdry) but David was able to make my hair look gorgeous using just a hair dryer and a brush!!! Coming back for a haircut soon! I am extremely picky with my hair...when I moved out of state for 2.5 years I still drove home 5 hours to my old salon. I moved to Chicago in December of 2010 and finally took my students advice in September of 2011 to try Salon V...boy do I wish I had gone sooner. I go to Laura for highlights, cut and conditioning treatment and she is fantastic. I'm on the search for the perfect shade for my wedding and she has been great about tweaking each visit and really listening to what I want. Everyone there has been great with brows as well but Amanda is definitely the most best. She will come up with a plan to get your brows to perfection. I was nervous I wouldn't find a salon in my budget in the city but their prices aren't too bad. On Tuesday's and Wednesday's DePaul students and staff save 20% on services which is great as well. This place makes you feel welcomed from the moment you call to make your appointment and are extremely professional while still having a great small salon feel. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the stylists/colorists here and I've seen men and women of all hair types come and leave looking great. read more

My sister and I both give him free range with our (very different) styles, and he never fails to rock our haircut worlds. Plus, unlike the previous reviewer's stylist, Teddy's cuts only cost $50! My stylist who I have gone to many times didn't even remember me when I walked on. He gave me an extremely plain cut with my real advice on how to make it different. Every time I've gotten my hair colored there I've hated it- it either looks super fake or there is no difference to it. I wouldn't suggest it to any of my friends. read more

I have been going to Salon V for a couple years now. They are outstanding! I chose to use them for my August 2014 wedding and was amazed at the beautiful job they did! I had them style all of the bridesmaids hair and do their makeup as well as my bridal hair and makeup. Veronica and Meredith were so absolutely professional and went above and beyond to make the whole process relaxing and fun. I actually enjoyed myself while all of us were being styled and made-up and the end result was amazing. We all looked naturally beautiful! They even took the time to style the little flower girl and to help make minor adjustments to the girls dresses to ensure we looked our very best. I have been going to Salon V for four to five years for hair cuts from David. He is very talented, always does a great job, and I always get numerous compliments on my hair! I am very picky with my hair cuts, and David has never disappointed. He also does make up touches on me before I leave and gives me makeup tips! The salon is also great with client service, and I have always had an easy time making appointments. I was very impressed by my haircut this afternoon! I usually flock to the cheapest place possible and was a regular at the likes of Super Cuts and Great Clips. This was a night and day difference. I have a difficult time figuring out what I actually want and typically end up getting some variation of the bowl hair cut. This was not the case the first time I went to Salon V and had David work with me. I said I wanted something different, and I didn't really know what I wanted. He walked me through a few ideas and we got started. To get things started I had a scalp massage with fragrant oils and quite frankly I would have been happy just having that for the whole hour. After a wash he used a variety of cutting techniques including a straight razor to give my fine and rather lifeless locks a little texture and vibrancy. He was detailed and I walked away very VERY happy. In fact it was around 30 degrees outside and I opted for not wearing a hat because I didn't want to mess up the new do. I'm a guy who will sacrifice practicality for fashion 9 times out of ten so that says a lot right there. I would highly recommend David! Brief review: Professional, warm, talented, real people who know what they're doing and will go the extra mile. Long review: I trust Salon V entirely. Firstly, I followed Teddy there when he left a different salon years ago. He always puts me at ease, gives me his honest opinion about what I should do and consistently gives me a cut that grows out beautifully and works with my changing hair. The salon has a warm and personable atmosphere-- high quality talent and product without the stuffiness. Mercy is super friendly on the phone, Lori goes out of her way to give awesome pedicures and even came in on her day off once for me, and Meredith fixed my BFF's hair when she drunk-cut it herself (this was no small feat, it was a MESS). Most recently, Veronica gave me a fantastic texturization (otherwise known as perm). I'd been thinking about it since my once-curly hair became pin straight, and Teddy said I should do it (like I said, I trust him). I was nervous I'd get my sister's 1989 poodle perm, and Veronica answered every concern I had. It turned out really, really well. It was exactly what I wanted because she's super talented and really listened to what I wanted. Plus the price was reasonable for all the hair I have. Bottom line: Every time I leave Salon V I feel confident and happy. Salon V helps me be the best version of myself I can be, I really appreciate them and would recommend them to anyone. read more

Ok... if you've never had your nose (inside) waxed... You have got to do it. I am a huge fan! I suffer from allergies and this year was no problem at all. It doesnt really hurt at all and the results are a clean snout with no strays hanging out! Have your brows done too...everyone needs a little clean up. Melissa Conforti, is a goddess hairdresser that resuscitated my hair from a very, bad, completely terrible, haircut from Tsubo. My hair is shorter, but delightfuly frames my faces well--she also hid all the ugly- still needs to grow out bits(Yay!). I recently saw her this week for color, and I cannot tell you how happy I am! I have been going to Arts and Science for color for years, and after 1 session with Melissa,I wish I could turn back time. My hair is pretty, really pretty. I know that sounds petty, but I don't care.My mousey reddish brown hair, has been transformed into a warm dark blonde hazelnut color, with strands of cream, amber, and caramel. I am a walking caramel macchiato, instead of the destroyed tumbleweed pumpkin spice latte coif that I walked in with. So, yeah, I love her. You should too! Only thing, I didn't like--not being able to add a tip on to my card! I still owe her a tip! So, make sure you bring cash or a check for the people who make you pretty. read more

She asked me what I was looking to do, gave me a scalp/neck massage with the Aveda essential oils, then during the washing of my hair, also gave me a hand massage. I've been going to Salon V for about 4 years. I've had very positive experiences. It has a nice ambiance. It's very bright and airy. But let's be honest, I don't go for the wall of windows and exposed brick. I go for the hair cut. For a long time, I had my hair cut by Amanda and she was simply wonderful. She had great ideas and cut my hair in different ways. I had always gone with the same hair cut, but she really expanded my own personal vision for my hair. I was so sad when she left. But now I'm working with Melissa and she's also very superb. She has great ideas and style and I'm happy with my new stylist. I docked a star because when Amanda left, I never got a phone call or any kind of notice. I found out when I called to schedule an appointment and was then told that she had left. Better communication would have really been appreciated. But truly, it's an excellent salon. read more

If you want a salon with good energy and a talented team this is your place. Everyone there is good and so friendly. The location is amazing next to a lot of small boutiques and restaurants. Be prepared to be pampered with scalp massages and hand massages. They use all Aveda products so that is a total plus, so gentle on the hair. I had my color and cut service done by Veronica. She is so passionate and full of knowledge. She is the owner of the salon and you can tell that she cares about her team. So refreshing to be around. My color turned out exactly how I wanted it. She listened to my goals and concerns of my hair. Addressing all of my concerns the hair turned out amazing! Loved the cut and blow dry! My hair is full of bounce and shine. I also had my eyebrow color softened by Taylor. She was awesome. Made me almost fall asleep with her application. All in all I'm excited to go back. I have a new home for all my hair needs. I have always had really curly hair and just had the Brazilian Keratin treatment done by Teddy at Salon V. They told me it might be life changing, but I have to say, it's more than that. Every time I have dried my hair over the last week I have been amazed by how straight it is and how easy it is to maintain. I haven't put any gel or product in my hair for a week and it is the softest and shiniest it has ever been. Teddy has recommended a new color for me that I probably would never have picked on my own and it looks amazing. I am so pleased with the work he has done. Teddy is my hairstyling hero - and I do not give that compliment lightly. After a disastrous haircut (see my other review) I waited many months before even attempting to go back to a salon. Finally, when I was ready, a client recommended Salon V and Teddy. Almost a year later I still could not be happier. He has completely erase the memory of that horrific haircut! Not only that but this summer I decided to try highlights. Since this was new for me, the first time we went with subtle color but this last time I told him to go lighter and my hair looks fantastic. I've been going to Salon V for almost two years now (seeing Ada) and I've never been more happy with my hair. As a guy, I had thought there wasn't much of a difference between a chain and a salon for my short hair, but I was presently surprised what my stylist Ada has been able to do over the years. As I kept it short she provided different looks and ways to style that kept me constantly looking my best. I've been growing my hair out for about 6 months now and she does a great job of maintaining a good look while I transition between different lengths. I have to admit, I am one of those yelp users that often uses yelp to help in my decision making process for various services but have never actually written a review. That all changes today. I have been a client of Julio's for about 2 years now. He is great! He is so creative yet always listens to what I want which is a real plus when it comes to a stylist. Yesterday I went in for a scheduled trim and to make a long story short, Veronica, the owner, informed me that due to a personal emergency, Julio was not going to be able to cut my hair. She offered to have another stylist cut my hair and I was a little bit nervous because I love the way Julio does it. She also told me I could reschedule if I wanted to. Veronica noticed that I was a little uneasy about it and she offered to cut it herself. Can you believe that?!?! The owner of the salon dropped everything she was doing to cut my hair just to put me at ease. Talk about amazing customer service! Amanda stepped in to blow and style my hair as Veronica had another appointment. Amanda took the time to tell me everything she did so that I could do it myself when I got home. I went to Salon V for the first time this afternoon. They worked me in with a same day appointment for a full color and cut with Jessica. She was amazing! The atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant. I was greeted with a drink and promptly whisked to the station where we discussed my desired hair cut and color. She made sure to cover my hair evenly with the coloring mixture. I have, in the past, experienced colorists who skimp on mixing more product for the sake of time. Never understood this as I am paying for additional mixing. That aside, the color came out exactly as I wanted and the cut was light and airy, which was amazing considering the sheer volume and quantity of hair I have. Best salon I've ever been to. Everyone who works there is incredibly talented, very professional and sweet. I didn't realize how much so until I visited other salons in the area when I've been in a bind and experienced very unprofessional and catty behavior. You can tell the staff cares about their clients and their coworkers. It's a nice environment to be in. As for their services... top notch. I've gone here for color correction, highlights, lowlights, haircuts and blowouts and I have never left without being more than satisfied with the outcome. Just came back from my first appointment with Ada after seeing a recommendation for her in Allure magazine. I couldn't be happier with my experience.
