THE BEST CUT, COLOR, AND BALAYAGE…read more I think they advertise more as a cut place but they are EXPERTS at coloring too so don't be deceived. I've been in this neighborhood for over 10 years and hair tech hands down does the best cut, color, and balayage. I get my cuts done with Grace or Gloria (the owner). After recommending Hair Tech to my friend, she now is a repeat customer too and she lives an hour away lol!! Last time I saw her, she got a crazy intricate Audrey Hepburn inspired bob cut with a million layers that took over an hour and only paid $15. The guy treated her hair like it was the tower of Pisa itself. I was hesitant to do a balayage because I have colored my hair a million times at home and other salons in my neighborhood and after shelling over $200 for a balayage elsewhere I didn't feel like it was worth it so I just didn't do anything to it for a year. I was on the fence between balayage and highlights, or doing nothing at all. I feel like colorists always try to do away the "brass" and get the blondes as BLONDE aka COOL as possible. I am not pale.. that doesn't look good on me.. So Gloria's work was SO worth it... she did exactly what I wanted, a HONEY Beyoncé/jlo blonde, EXCEPT her balayage is so nice and intricate it could pass for highlights because it looks so expensive unlike other colorists that do big chunks. I actually didn't want balayage or highlights before coming here, because highlights are too strippy and can look too mature on me contrasted with my dark asian hair, but balayage can be too blocky and look like a single processed color or ombré anyway. Gloria's work looks like a seamless blend of balayage and highlights, so this is perfect!!! I am mostly "blonde" (like a Beyonce one color) with the shimmery blends of different golden locks, the colored strips are super fine closer to my crown to the bottom my ears like highlights under close inspection, but blends in perfectly throughout the bottom as a balayage. GLORIA HITTING ALL THE NOTES WITHOUT ME EVEN ASKING. I was just gonna let her do her job because I wasn't sure what I wanted. AND for half the price the other salon cost me. You know how sometimes even when things are done right you have hair remorse until you get used to your new hair? I never feel like that here, I feel like wow I need to go out right now with this hair!!! I definitely left feeling so pretty. Ps. All the staff are super friendly and feel like family. Gloria is very funny and fun to talk to, but won't if you don't want to. She doesn't ask you a million questions about yourself like other stylists. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to kick back and chill. They just do their job, are punctual and professional, get the job done and EXCEL for better prices than anywhere in Chicago. The other salons don't even come close. Thanks Grace and Gloria!!

He has an incredible eye for color and makes every single appointment feel thoughtful and customized. He is a balayage king. Alison is amazing, too!! I know that I am in great hands with her when John is unavailable - the color is top-notch 100% of the time (I met John first). Anna is my stylist, and she is JUST AS AMAZING!!!!! I have been going to her for almost as long as I have been going to John Blue. Everyone compliments my haircuts, and she does every kind of cut amazingly, she has catered to several haircut whims of mine over the years ... also does hair extensions (had those too, likewise perfect) and straightening/keratin treatments (that maintain the health of your hair because everything is natural at the salon, no toxic chemicals or bad smells). A shout out to Reina - she is fantastic as well - she has cut the men's hair in my life and done an awesome job. She has put in and taken out my extensions and made them look so natural. She's fabulous at everything else as well from what I can see, men's & women's cuts & everything else :) The staff is AAAAMMMMMMAAAAAAZZZZZIIIINNNNGGGG!! With Elizabeth, I have always left so happy with what she's done and am grateful to have someone I can trust completely to do an amazing time every time. To top it off, she's the loveliest woman to be around while she works. Elizabeth hadn't seen my hair in person or in pictures and refused to work with me because they stated that it wouldn't be "a good fit" very confusing messages and was not even able to even get an in person consultation! To add, it took over a week for a response and after my last attempt to schedule a simple haircut/trim, I was declined for the reason of "not a good fit" I would like to talk to the owner/manager about this issue as I appald by this response. Also "color correction" was assumed and stated in the text response - stylist never saw my hair in person or viewed photos. How can that assumption be made ? Also, I (as many women are) willing to invest the time to try out different stylists /engage in consultations until the right fit is found- the statement of "wasting my time with a consultation" is absurd. In addition, and I quote from Elizabeth's first text " Yes, I ABSOLUTELY work with clients who have resistant gray, and I'd be happy to help you with your root touch-up. " How would then their comfort/expertise level with resistant gray CHANGE after a follow up text message? I question the reasons for why my request for a consult/trim was denied. I found this stylist and salon very unprofessional.
