I'm totally inept when it comes to styling, blow drying etc. I've tried several stylists and while they were lovely people, I couldn't maintain the styles they gave me. I had my two daughters' (5 and 4 yrs) hair cut here. The stylists were great with them. Very patient and made them feel comfortable and important. It was my 4-year-old's first hair cut and she was so excited by the whole experience. The atmosphere awed them and the service was wonderful. I walked in feeling confident and excited for a new haircut and left in tears (which seems to be a reoccurring theme when you check out the reviews on the Facebook page). I came in yesterday to trade in my long locks for a pixie cut. Madeline 'cut' my hair with the 'aid' of Wes and another stylist. Madeline seemed to be having a difficult time cutting my hair into a pixie and I would have had significantly more respect for her had she been honest and told me right off the bat: "Pixies aren't one of my strengths, let me refer you to someone else or reschedule." Instead she spent 3 hours (YES 3!) hacking off random chunks of my hair and combing the same section for hours on end. She left me many times during the appointment to get help, lied to me about the reason she ran away, and the more stylists she handed me off to the worse it looked. At the end of the appointment at around 7:30 (my appointment began at 4:30), Madeline spun me around so I couldn't see the mirror/end result and said "You don't have to pay." She just gave up. My hair was lopsided and uneven throughout (one side was significantly longer than the other) and resembled a bulbous mushroom instead of anything close to resembling a pixie. I would have had more luck asking a small child or even a baboon to cut my hair. As I left in despair, the receptionist gave me a coupon and samples, which I left along with my dignity in the parking lot. No amount of free things could EVER get me to set foot in that salon again. I cried in the parking lot for about 20 minutes at the most hideous hair cut I have ever seen before driving across town to another salon. At the Hair Cuttery my new stylist said that it was one of the worst haircuts she had ever witnessed and that the stylists at Salon Rouge had completely butchered my hair. Luckily she was able to transform the disaster of a haircut Madeline left me with into a beautiful pixie that exactly mirrored the new picture I gave her. We had to go to a completely different and significantly shorter length than I originally wanted because Madeline and colleagues chopped my hair so unevenly it was a miracle that it could even be saved at the Hair Cuttery. Yes, the stylists at Salon Rouge are nice but no amount of nice can cover up a lack of skill, professionalism, or frankly common sense. I'm a paying customer, not a Barbie doll to practice on while you finish up beauty school. Speaking of beauty school, I highly recommend that the stylists at Salon Rouge go back and learn a thing or two or just drop out while they're ahead. Don't bother with the canned and cold response of, "Sorry you had a bad experience! Let us make it up to you! Come back!" I don't currently have the hair length or the patience for you to continue to ruin it. Feel free to pay for my emergency trip to Hair Cuttery. It cost the amount I would have paid at Salon Rouge minus the tip and emotional trauma. Salon Rouge left my confidence shattered. Save precious hair, time, and money and literally go anywhere else. read more

The stylist clipped my hair EXACTLY as I wanted it, and I am very particular when it comes to my hair, especially because I like it on the longer side. She didn't go all "scissor-happy" as most stylists at other salons would. read more

I have never written a Yelp review, but this experience was so horrible and out of the blue that I wanted to warn people. I showed up for my first appointment on time and was sat in a chair in the far back of the salon--away from all of the action. Then I sat there waiting for 30 minutes before my stylist even came by to acknowledge my existence. Once she came by I enthusiastically said, "there she is!" She seemed to get annoyed by this comment and proceeded to say, "well, as I understand it we barely added you in today." I let the passive aggressive stab go, because I figured she misunderstood my playfulness. I proceeded to explain my hair history to her. I told her that I'm originally from Los Angeles and I had a stylist in SoCal that I absolutely LOVED (Melissa Jaqua--for you hair fanatics out there--is amazing if you're in SoCal). I said I was nervous about trying a new hairstylist. I explained to her that I've lived in a couple of cities since my SoCal days and I've noticed that most stylists have a hard time dying my hair (it is almost black and doesn't take to color very easy). Frankly, I shared this with her so (1) she'd know what she was getting into with my hair and (2) she'd ease my anxiety, which is what NORMAL customer service people do--"oh, well, dont worry, I'm going to take good care of you" or something like that. Nope. Instead, after I explained what I wanted--to keep my whole head black brown with partial highlights in a lighter chocolatey brown--she proceeded on the defensive again! She put up BOTH index fingers as she talked down to me in the mirror and said, "I dont think YOU understand that there is no difference between chocolate brown and dark brown." For a second I thought I would show her the pictures I have on my phone of similar styles (e.g. Kim Kardashian and others), but she was so rude I decided to ask for her manager. Then I find out that she is the manager (her name is Tammy). Then I ask for the owner (Gail Getz), but she wasn't there. At this point, she begins apologizing--most likely threatened that I'm going over her head--but it was too little too late. I left my phone number with the front desk for Gail and walked out. Listen, I have been in MANY salons since my SoCal days and I have NEVER been treated like that...and from a manager no less! While I did not get my hair done, I will say that attitudes matter--no one should have to sit in a chair feeling hostage to hostility and pay for it no less! I will never return and I would recommend others avoid the unprofessionalism. read more

Went in for a bridal updo and makeup. I could have done my hair better myself, which I probably should have since I had to fix it before my wedding anyway. She didn't smooth it out or brush it before rolling it up into my headpiece which looked nothing like how I wanted or showed her. After I told her that I didn't like it she basically told me too bad, her next appt would be there at 11:15 and it was still only 10:30. She was just not nice. It was my WEDDING day!!! After the frustration I just wanted out of her chair and settled with the frizzy rolled up do that I did not want. My mother in law got her make up done, which looked great! However, I looked like a drag queen when I left. I had to wash off a pound of make up and horrible eyebrows after fixing my hair. I just wanted out of there!!! I paid, even though I probably shouldn't have. And of course the tip was already included! How nice of them! NEVER AGAIN! Luckily my dress and veil made up for the horrible hair and makeup. I have been going to this salon for well over a year. Every time I walk in it is like they are seeing me for the first time. The receptionists aren't very friendly either. Every time I go here I'm charged a different price for a basic haircut. I've been charged $35-$65 for someone to wash and cut my hair. I avoid styling because I know they charge more. I came here a couple months ago to have my eyebrows done. I normally see Chrissy, but she was booked and it was the only day I could come in. I ended up having someone else do my eyebrows. The wax the girl used was way too hot and burned my skin. My face is still red and I had this service done a few months ago. Not to mention the fact that I told the girl I was getting married in a couple months and she proceeded to tell me her life story of how her husband had cheated and she was in the middle of a divorce. Not really something you want to hear before your wedding. Three weeks ago I went back and saw Chrissy. She made comments about how whoever did my eyebrows before did a terrible job. I told her I'd had them done there and I couldn't remember the girls name. She told me to only come see her from now on and gave me a business card. Chrissy does an amazing job, I would highly recommend her. Two weeks ago I had set up an appointment for my bridal party. Some of the people in my party had been going to this salon for years so they requested certain stylists. Me being the bride, requested someone too. The day I signed the contract I was told that the stylist I wanted would not be available because he did not work Fridays, but the stylist my mother-in-law wanted would be available. The day comes and we all arrive at different times. My bridesmaids were spread all over the salon, my mom was on the other side of the salon, and my mother-in-law was in the middle of the salon. None of us sat next to each other and they started my bridesmaids hair before I even arrived. As I'm sitting there, I notice the stylist I had requested was cutting someone else's hair after I was told they would not be working that day. The person my mother-in-law requested was not there when I was told she would be. Only 2 of the 6 of us were happy with our hair. When we went up to the counter, we were charged for all updos when 3 of us only had formal styles. They also added gratuity that we were never told would be added. Not to mention it took numerous stylists to do 2 people's hair and they were still not happy with it once they were done. The whole experience was a joke and I am now looking for a new salon. read more

Salon Rouge has unmatched customer service. In addition to very talented stylists and a pleasant, comfortable environment, I think their customer service is what truly sets them apart and makes me willing to spend the extra money. I wish I could find a place like this in Chicago!! read more

Love the time she takes to listen to what I want and professionally determine the hair color that I am looking for at the time. Always looks beautiful!! I saw Thor for the most expensive haircut I've ever had ($60) and it wasn't as good as the $15 cuts I get in Niles. He is very nice and means well, but I have very tricky thick, naturally curly hair and it takes a very skilled person to work with it without causing frizz. I now get to grow out a bunch of layers I didn't want. I was very disappointed; it was a total ripoff. read more

had a terrible experience the appretenice didnt color my hair right its a shitty job!! and they said i couldnt come back to have it fixed because they dont do that on the apprentice program. i was told if i wanted a better job i should of took a regular stylist. i have been there previously and had my hair done by a apprentice and she did a good job with the highllighs and natalie who isnt there anymore also has done a wonderful job on my hair. now im stuck with lifeless color!!! read more
