Salon One the type of place you go if your goal is to look *good*. I discovered this place in 2019 as a gem for solid haircuts and continued coming back when I began regularly coloring my hair the following year in an effort to try something new and different with my look. Before this, I had never colored my hair. Both Tina and Jessica do a fantastic job since I've decided to come in for balayage touch-ups on a quarterly basis. I can reliably arrive for my appointment, give a very broad direction on what I want ("Let's go lighter!") and then they work their magic. My hair is extremely thicc so these ladies have their work cut out for them, but they've shown me nothing but kindness and good humor during my ~3.5 hrs in the seat. As anyone would expect based on the time commitment of just one customer, this process requires significant attention to detail and a ton of patience. The results speak for themselves and my friends always compliment my hair -- one has even become a loyal customer. For a lot of women, when you find stylists who hit the mark every time, you can't help but become attached. There is a high degree of trust involved because your hair is pretty much the very first thing most people notice. Even when I lived almost an hour away in Marin, I never bothered to even look for a salon locally and just continued making the trek to Alameda, because my hair after walking out of Salon One was a guaranteed *chef's kiss*. The photos attached are from three separate occasions, dating back to my first balayage in Dec 2020 to Mar 2021 and today (Apr 2022). read more

I walked in for a highlight touch up on my roots and there was no wait! Tina did my color and she was so sweet and easy to talk to. She brightened up my roots to match the already existing highlights, toned, washed, and blow dried. At the end it came out to $120 and I paid with cash (they have an ATM) inside. It came out a little more yellow than I was used to but I've got a decent purple shampoo I'll be using regularly! read more

This review is long overdue. I have been crossing the tunnel for several years to see Tina. She is incredibly talented and takes the time to understand what I want. I always walk out feeling happy with my new look! The salon itself is welcoming, and Tina is not only skilled but also super friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. The prices are fantastic for the quality of service you get. I highly recommend Tina and Salon One to anyone looking for a great hairstylist in Alameda. read more

If your black don't come here, they hate you!!! Treated me like an inconvenience and told me I should perm my hair, and much more.

I went here for a simple undercut but they asked if I wanted a design. I wasn't really looking for one but I went for it and it came out better than expected! I've been here before for a Brazilian blow out and just a simple cut and staff is always very nice. read more

I've been to this salon in the past and Cindy styled my hair. Today, I walked in and was told I could not receive service. Basically because I'm black and they don't know how to service my hair texture. I guess salons cater to all races except black people. read more

I really should start asking stylists names- but I've been coming here since 2016 as a walk in or whoever is available during my schedule openings for a cut - and never been disappointed --- I have wavy hair and can deal if cuts are not perfect, but my sister has flat iron straight when air drying- $260 in LA for a wonky bob: one of these ladies evened that disaster out no problem before a wedding read more

My long tresses + highlights had grown out (way, way out) during the long pandemic of salon closures, and it was *finally* time to get it together Christigale. Made a 9am appointment with Howie. The street parking right in front is free which is AWESOME. The salon has large windows and high ceilings letting in an abundance of natural light. Overall nice comfortable and clean, with staff wearing masks and very friendly. Bathroom was also large, clean and stocked. At start of appointment, Howie took the time to discuss my hair goals in depth - I appreciate that he listened, gave feedback, and was very specific with color tones to ensure our expectations were aligned. For me this step is huge - Howie built the trust right from the start and I can say he 100% delivered. Everything I asked for, he nailed it! I love the depth in warm colors he created while still keeping dark on top as I wanted. I was extremely pleased with the whole experience. I left with extra soft, revived, beautifully styled hair and felt pretty glam walking out of there - haven't felt that way in a long time. Ahhhh :) I even ran errands afterwards and received compliments from random strangers! Thank you Salon One and Howie! You guys rock! I'm a fan and I will be back! read more

Jessica was AMAZING! She had more confidence in my hair than I did. I came in with a a previous dye job and overgrown roots. Surprisingly we didn't have to bleach either and she still got my hair looking this RED!!! The integrity of my hair is still healthy and strong. I went to a music festival last weekend and got so many compliments! My hair stood out so much that my friend found me three different times. We didn't even come together read more

Edit: Tina the owner called me and offered to correct my hair for free, so I'm updating my review. I was able to book an appointment very quickly. It was just a simple correction to even out the roots and I'm glad were gracious about offering a free re-touch! I''m updating my review as my highlights are actually completely uneven. I didn't notice it as much when my hair was styled and curled, but the next day, it was obvious one side was more colored than the other. (you can still tell from the original photo that my hair is uneven if you look closely at the roots). I didn't immediately go back because I had plans to travel, and I quarantined myself for 2 weeks after that. I called the salon when I came back and they said I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY for their stylist's mistakes because it's been over 2 weeks. I don't think this is fair. It's obvious my hair didn't grow out and this was the mistake of the stylist. read more

I can't recommend Salon One enough! I had been searching for a new salon for more than a year until I found Salon One and they certainly earned my loyalty. I have been seeing Tina for a couple of years now and she's been able to turn my very dark, dull, and brittle hair into this gorgeous shade of ashy blond, while restoring the health of my hair. She is also extremely knowledgeable and will recommend you strategies to best take care of your hair long term. If you are looking for a new stylist in the Bay Area at a very reasonable price, Salon One is the place to go! read more

Jessica is such a sweet and social gal! I came in for a haircut and balayage. I had grown out my hair for over a year and a half from my previous balayage done at a different salon. The ends of my hair were really dry and damaged :( I asked for a V cut with layers, face framing layers, and curtain bangs. Jessica was very attentive and knew what she was doing; she took her time making sure my hair came out even on both sides and checked in with me if I needed water :) I was so comfortable that I fell asleep!! We were both really happy with the end results. Thank you for reviving my hair Jessica!! read more

Best blonde hair I've ever had done, service was great I was there for 6 hours and the lady doing my hair offered me snacks and food. The only thing that made me upset was they projected the price to be $185-250 and it ended up being 400 and all I did was a solid hair dye , no highlights no balliage. So the price at the end shocked me and I wasn't financially prepared for that. BUT it was the best blonde dye I've ever had. Very icy! read more

Came in for a quick haircut. No shampooing or style service, just a simple trim. I was happy to hear they were able to see me super last minute. I called at 2pm and they said to come in at 5pm which was totally fine for me. Salon cleanliness/safety: The salon was clean and everyone was wearing masks (workers and customers). After each customer, they cleaned the chairs and tools, but I didn't see them sanitize, which was the only issue I saw given that we are still in a pandemic. Custom service & Location: The hairdressers were nice and welcoming. They were all professional and friendly. The salon is in a great location and easy to spot when driving by. Price & Quality: I got a haircut for $38 which was a deal compared to the other 100+ places I called from San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Alameda. My stylist - Cindy - did an AMAZING job. Even if my cut was simple, the final product came out better than I ever expected. She took her time and did not try to make over the top suggestions and worked with the cut I had in mind. I would definitely be coming back to see Cindy. :) Also, when speaking my stylist/hairdresser about coloring service, she gave me a great price for my long hair. I will definitely be coming back to get this done. Downsides: Parking is always a hassle on Park Street during the weekends. So, give yourself plenty of time to get there at least 15 mins before your actual appointment. Overall, I'm definitely going back to Salon One! One of my favorite things about this place is that the stylists/hairdressers all engage WITH THE CUSTOMER, not with each other telling stories and making the customer uncomfortable. At least I feel uncomfortable when they talk to each other and ignore me the whole time I'm on the seat. Also, the price is not cheap (service + tip) but also does not cost you an arm and a leg like other places in the Bay. I'd say the price is right here at Salon One. Plus- the quality is top notch. If you're like me- looking for a great deal, good quality and excellent service- you found the place- go visit Salon One today!! read more

I got my hair done by Jessica this past weekend and really loved it! She listened to what I wanted, asked me before making decisions on color, toner, length, etc. and it turned out so great! I live in the city and getting it done at Salon One was less expensive than the city and still just as happy with the results. The only thing that was hard was the parking nearby is all 2 hr so I had to run out halfway through the session to feed the meter. I wish they sent an email before the appointment with some ideas of places to park. But other than that, I would recommend! read more

A friend referred me to Salon One so I went to their website and online booking was a breeze. I booked with Howie bc I read some of the reviews and it was good. He was very nice and attentive and understood what I wanted. I had a lot of yellow in my hair and it really worked hard to removed it. Their pricing is very reasonable compared to other salons that I used to go to. I am very happy with my results and would definitely come back in a few months to get it lighter. The salon has an Instagram page but I don't think the picture they post does justice. I think if they take nicer hair pictures with better lighting (like some of the IG stylist does) they would be more popular. read more

Upon entering the salon at the front desk/cashier there is a plastic barrier and hand sanitizer in which they enforce use. Staff and employees are masked, staff wears gloves on introduction, consultation, and washing; gloves are removed for the styling portion. Seats are socially distanced and salon is clean. A lot of availability and conveniently located on park avenue. The staff does not appear to be well trained, innovative, or familiar with all types of hair. The stylist I had did not listen to my wishes in regards to hair health or styling but did what she wanted or was able to do. Worth a try or go to if you're in a pinch but not recommended for those that do not have straight hair or want their hair straightened with multiple modes of heat. read more

Howie gave my hair life again. I haven't had a cut and color since Jan 2020, and due to the pandemic, salons were closed which means I wasn't able to maintain my color. I have another salon I normally go to but is located 30-40 minutes away, I decided I needed to do this quick and stress free. I searched and came across salon one. I spoke with Tina initially, she is so sweet! I wanted a cut + color but decided I'll do a cut this week and color next week since they were so booked.. Although there was a small error with the appointment, I came on the date I was told but the time that was inputted in their system was for the next day... I arrived to the salon and was told my appointment wasn't until the next day.. I was actually a bit upset because I really wanted to get my cut done and over with.. but eventually left and came back the next day. Howie accommodated so well with me! He felt bad about the situation that he made himself available to help with my cut and color all in the same day! He was so knowledgeable and engaging! During my sessions, Tina came to assist with washing. They were both so sweet. Had a really nice experience here and will def come back!! Thanks Howie and Tina! read more

I have seen Jessica twice for highlights and a cut and both times have been amazing! Jessica herself is so sweet and did a great job of interpreting what I said I wanted based on example photos, etc. Super reasonably priced for the Bay Area, I will definitely be going back for the foreseeable future. It's nice they have online booking and you can get an appointment without too much planning in advance. Thank you so much, Jessica!! read more

Fast service and reasonable price. Tina does a great job at short notice. I usually come here when I need a trim/cut but my studio stylist is not available, I'm happy with Salon One, would return and recommend this to people looking for a simple service. I have gotten my hair done there three times and I'm not going back. One of the girls gave me a really good hair cut but I went back two months later and another gal cut my hair but it was bad, and uneven.... I wanted to find the original lady that cut my hair but when I went back a third time she was busy, I decided to get my hair dine there any way since I drove there. The woman that cut my hair took forever and didn't really cut it like the picture I showed her. There are are about 4 stylists there and only one good one. They also over charged me for the hair color and haircut. I paid $180 for a mediocre hair cut when I could've paid $120 anywhere else. read more

Before my appointment, my hair has had purple dye and box dye. Despite that, Tina lifted my hair beautifully and my hair feels healthy even though I got a balayage. Her work speaks for itself!! She's super careful and ensures her clients are happy. I'll definitely return for another lightening session in a couple of months. I'm super pleased with the results and I was shocked it even lifted this lightly considering my hair has box dye + purple hair dye that was super difficult to lift. read more

Finding a new hair stylist is always anxiety producing but I consider myself extremely lucky to have found Salon One and Tina. I had been with one stylist for decades before she moved away. Tina is AWESOME! I have been coming here for about 4-5 years now. Their service is great, the environment is clean, all their staffs are super friendly, and prices are reasonable for color and hair cut. I always schedule my appointment with Tina and she does an exceptional job for my hair. I have gone to many salons to color my hair and it never comes out exactly right (something was always off) until I stumbled upon Salon One. I only showed her a picture of what I want on my very first visit to get started then all other appointments were verbal descriptions and she always gets it right. And I always get compliments on how great my hair looks afterward. Always a happy girl after doing my hair with Tina!! read more

Tina is great! I have naturally curly hair that's very fine and frizzy, and COVID took its toll. I made an appointment for a Japanese straightening right when Salon One opened. Tina was great--friendly while getting the job done, very understanding about my concerns. They took proper COVID precautions (temperature check, masks, hand sanitizer) and I felt safe and cared for while getting my hair taken care of. Note that they only take check or cash--I didn't have either, but I've been at Salon One enough where Tina knew me, jotted down the amount due and told me to come back anytime that day with the check or cash. Appreciate the trust! I stopped by at the end of the day with a check and she was so nice about it. read more
