Updating because Tina sent a text to apologize and offered me a discount. I got an appointment elsewhere, but I might come back and see if she'll honor the discount later. That's what you call customer service. -- I'm a little disappointed with Salon One today. Maybe it was an off day. Here's my deal: as a client, I respect your time and come in early or on time for my appointments, so I expect the same from my stylist. This is a dealbreaker for me. It's already so hard for me to find a good stylist that I trust and today, it was broken. Yes, I am a bit dramatic, but my time is precious and I put out the energy I expect to get back. You'd think if you make an online appointment, you don't have to wait that long. I saw that Cindy, who was supposed to do my hair was nowhere done with her current client. I waited patiently for almost 30 mins and no one acknowledged me or got me started. I left and the owner called me to come back, but I was already livid and I needed to get back at a certain time. You're not going to waste 30 mins of my time and gas and expect me to stay loyal. It's too bad, as I know they always do a good job with hair, but unfortunately, I have to find a new stylist cause ain't nobody got time for that. read more

Pros: Service is good. The staff are super nice and friendly. I did walk-in and was able to get my hair done with a short waiting. But, got to say, the quality didn't quite hit the mark. I asked for an ashy balayage, showed them pictures, and addressed that I really don't like anything yellow-ish, but look what I ended up with. And this is even after some touch ups from the first dye. Maybe I'll get used to it, but this is definitely not ashy nor anything close to what I had in mind. Overall, it took about 4-5 hours and cost $185 for the color highlights. Maybe I was unlucky, maybe their hair cut is better, though? read more

She immediately noticed what I noticed and proceeded to make my color lovely with just the right amount of natural looking low lights and highlights. Tina did an absolute fantastic job with my hair! I booked online for an appointment in advance for touch up for my ash blonde balayage and a haircut. Tina knew what to do and was attentive at what exactly I wanted. I bought conditioner at the end of of my session and I almost forgot it after paying- I realized I was missing it when I was in line for Ding Tea across the street LOL. I ran back to pick it up and Tina was about to call me to let me know I left it. Very nice people. This salon has pretty reasonable prices compared to other places in the Bay. I paid $295 for a balayage touch up, hair cut, and finishing style. Balayage/ombré services start at $185+. My previous touch up was at another salon where I paid $400+ just for the touch up service alone. You get quality service here with a great value. This salon is located in downtown Alameda and it can be a nightmare trying to find parking on Park St. I parked at the Civic Center garage which was a little walk away. All the stylists here are great and I see the result of their work while I wait for my color and they all do an awesome job. They accept walk-ins and they're very accommodating. Tina is excellent at cutting curly hair. The curls hold pretty well without having to use hair products (just scrunch wet hair). And, 6 weeks later my hair has grown out really nicely and people still complement it. Now she's also highlighted my hair. The streaks were a bit too bright for me at first, and without question Tina did a 2nd round of toner because she could see on my face that the highlights were a little too bright for me. It took extra time to do the process again, but she wanted me to leave happy. And, I did! I've recommended this place to my friends. Also, it's on Park Street on the same blocks as lots of good restaurants and shops, so you could spend a while here without having to re-park. Parking: 2 hour limit on weekdays 1.5 blocks away. She took my natural gray hair to a semipermanent pink using Guy Tang products, which somehow was both professional & fun. I just finished getting a balayage here and I love it so much! Jessica did my hair, and it turned out even better than the picture I showed her. She is super kind and I loved having conversation with her. She is also efficient, the whole process took about 3 hours, I could not be happier!! This salon has always been great and consistent with their work, I have zero complaints! Everyone here is super nice and talented, I've gotten haircuts and my hair dyed here 99% of the time and have been for about a few years now. They are super flexible with scheduling, you can book on their website or call. They've been incredibly accommodating when I want to have a walk-in haircut, and you cannot go wrong with anyone here, they're all great! One star for helping me right away when i walked in. Do not get a haircut with TOMMY. I specifically asked for him to use razor bc i do not like blunt end, and told him that i want the front to be shorter. He did the exact opposite of what i asked for. Not sure if there was a communication issue, but the whole time he was cutting my hair he did not say a word. If you are not sure of something then just ask. You can always cut more hair but cannot add length back in. It's common sense. I've never hated my haircut this bad. Now i'm left with an haircut that is way too short for me to even get it fixed elsewhere. read more

I've had a bad haircut there in the past, but I've had many more positive experiences. My last time there, Howie gave me a haircut, and although it was subtle, it was a newer style for me. It was really cool because it was one of those haircuts that kept looking better the more it grew out. Their prices are on par with other salons I've been to, but their friendliness and overall skill keeps me coming back! I also love their online reservation system. So wonderful place here!! Would like to highlight they are very good for men's services too (fades on Asian hair too) Howie, Holly, and Cindy are especially good mens hair. I usually see Howie who's very attentive to small details (eg improving hairline appearance via fade height & keeping temple area fuller) and he's very good at brows as well. I damaged my hair so much last year with blonde hair and needed to start over. I cut off 10 inches of my hair and donated it to "children with hair loss" but still needed to get it colored so the color wasn't so choppy. I haven't had short hair for years... but I kinda love it! Anyways, I needed to correct the color and most of the places I go to in San Jose or San Francisco were too far for me. I opted for something closer and when I called, they could take me in right away. I was fairly surprised but it worked out well. Jessica did my hair and she knew exactly what I needed. I brought my laptop to do some work and was amazed at how quick she finished my hair. Usually it takes 8-10 hours(no joke) with long hair, but since my hair was short, it was only three She was nice and very friendly to talk to when I wasn't on my laptop. He kept my length while trimming away whatever dead ends I had and gave my hair more volume and style. I have been going to see Tina for about 6 years now. Her work is amazing. Then all of a sudden her quotes changes via text after the service. My daughter and I will not be coming back. The last time I was there with my daughter for my birthday Tina charged us $520 when my daughter only got one color and a hair cut and myself with burgundy coloring with bleaching to take off the black and no haircut. I felt over charge then but I didn't say anything because my daughter was very happy with her hair. I don't mind paying for a great job and I always tip $20 every time. Then yesterday Tina charged me $185 for one color and a haircut I paid $200 which she told me by text it's $145 with highlights then she want to charge me another $95 just to add highlights. I am not rich. I am a single mom. I was very disappointed with Tina especially I have been going with her for a while now. I have communicated with her and let her know how I felt. Honestly I went in expecting a great service. I was hopeful even during the service as the other employees seemed to be taking great care of their clients. This is my first time going with salon one and I was able to snag an appointment the night before for next day with Jessica. my hair is long and thick but very flat. I went in asking for layers to add some movement to my hair and fringe bangs with some face framing layers. Jessica sat me down and did not seem confident in cutting my hair. She then proceeded to spray my hair and began cutting it. Normally when I get layers I am asked where I want the first layer to begin and how many layers I am looking for, also my hair is sectioned as the layers are being cut. Jessica did non of this. Instead she began cutting vertically at random sections of my hair. This took me off guard as I've never seen layers cut this way but I trusted her and the process thinking this may just be her technique. To make matters worse she cut my hair dry as the water sprayed dried up in a matter of minutes. Once she was done cutting my "layers" she did not even bother to show me the final results and just began cleaning as if to get me going. I was confused because I did not see any face framing layers and she did not even attempt to cut my fringe bangs. When I asked her about it she was like "oh you want bangs?". This made me upset because she obviously ignored my simple requests. The bangs she ended up doing were literally over my eyes. She didn't offer to wash or style my hair, which I would have been happy to pay for. I still paid and tipped her but I left the salon feeling so bad and felt as if my business was not important nor wanted. I had to go home and have my friend fix my hair who told me my hair was uneven and badly done. read more
