Was really excited to come in today and get my nails done, but they couldn't make it happen unfortunately. The place itself is bright and lively and very busy for a Thursday at 2pm - all great signs! I had scheduled to get gel x nails done and in scheduling, I couldn't find an option to remove the nails or just do a rebase, so before scheduling, I made sure to note that I already had nails on. I arrived 10 minutes early and after about 5 minutes of waiting after my apportionment time was supposed to begin, I was told that she only had a 30 minute slot and therefore wouldn't have time to take them off AND do them. Super bummed out as I've had these nails for 3 weeks now and desperately need to get them done. They have great reviews for hair, so maybe I'll come back and see how that goes - big maybe, but will probably find somewhere else for nails. read more

I have been coming here to get my black Asian hair dyed. They have bleaching agents in their hair dye so you don't need to bleach your dark hair first to go lighter. This is an Asian owned salon that I heard has a lot of minority patients bc they know how to work with black hair! The salon is located next to a brewery. I haven't had trouble street parking for free. I've had 4 diff stylists- all have done a great job with my hair. One of them did mess up and I ended up at the salon twice for a total of 6 hours but she fixed it with no extra charge and was super nice. I go in to get my hair overall dyed. Every time my roots grow out, I get the roots died and then the rest of my hair toned. I have long hair so it used to cost me $150 plus tip and now it's $175 plus tip (they raised the rates). It usually takes about 3.5 hours (ahhh!) But my hair looks great afterwards. It unfortunately fades to a copper hue in a couple months but that's what happens I guess. They offer tea water or coffee. I like the Kroger brand sweet cinnamon spice tea with honey. I really really hate their bathroom door lock. Lol it's unnecessarily complicated. Overall I like this place and the staff I have received services from have all been very friendly (and young, early 20s). read more

This salon houses many different stylists and offers many different services so the rating is kinda a consummate. I mostly want to put info out there for anyone looking for stylists who can work with asian hair especially since Vincent from Lilac has been closed for years. I had simple bob cuts from Jafet and Cristela using templates of my own previous haircut (so I know these are doable). The results were just awful. The cutting techniques were outdated, the end style was ugly layers. I carried them for months and felt very uncomfortable and self-aware the whole time. Christina on the other hand did a nice job, it's a hair I can live with. I have been travelling to LA and NY for haircuts previously, but I was determined to find a stylist locally, I think I will stick with Christina from now on. End of a business relationship by the Salon Owner. Before I leave this review, I have "receipts" and an email exchange to back this up. I'm a working man and have two businesses. I've never had a bad review (not even one) since I've been a business man. Just received a gleaming review about how great my customer service is. So I know how to treat people and I know how customers should be treated. Hoa sends me an email after he saw me in his chair 4 days prior. Didn't say a word to me. That's fine. I get my haircut with the salon every 10 days. And have been for over a year. There have been times when I had to cancel (only due to work and a Covid scare). Each time, I call and offer (they NEVER had to ask) to pay for my appointment. A few times Hoa turned down my payments. On 11/9 and 11/26 I noticed my payments were higher. No communication from the salon or Hoa about it. So I paid it and tipped and kept it pushing. After the 11/26 appointment I called and said I noticed I was charged for "the mens long layer cut". I'm a black man with a short haircut with a fade. The recipient told me 3 times that the change was right since I had long hair. We both chuckled and I started again "ma'am I'm a black man with short hair". She and I were BOTH confused of the charge. Lack of communication from Hoa to me and this lovely receptionist. I book my appointment for 12/6 and choose "The Skin Fade". Days later I noticed it changed to "The Mens Long Layer Cut". I called and the receptionist changed it back. Again we both laughed about the "long layer cut" on a black man. Hilarious. Then I get a vague email from Hoa discontinuing our professional relationship without specifics. I had to ask him why. He started I was constantly canceling and I was rude to his staff last week. Which was not true. His staff as been EXTREMELY friendly to me. More than him. But I don't need him to be extremely friendly to me. Here's what I think happened: it is his right to raise his price on me and deny service. 100%. I think he threw a fit that he couldn't "get one over again" on raising the price without letting the customer know. Hoa, have that direct conversation with your customer(s). You mentioned in your email about being a business man and having morals. You handled this poorly as a business man. BUT ... One of the things I hate doing whenever moving to a new place is finding a new barber. It took several bad haircuts when I was in Seattle, but it didn't take much to find a place when I moved to Denver. For some reason I would go to barbers where they did not cut my cowlick well so when my hair grows, I would have a bunch of hair sticking out and this seems to be a problem with stylists who don't cut a lot of asian hair. One haircut with Hoa later and I'm a regular! All I did was showed a photo of my previous hairstyle and he got to work. Hoa is quick yet precise. I've never had a bad haircut with him. He definitely is an expert in his craft and he's very relaxed and down to earth. The staff here are friendly and they do get busy. Both hair cuts I've gotten here have been amazing. The downsides are expense and wait time. All their stylists are so good, expect at least a 2-4 week wait. My son and DH have gotten their hair cut here too. This is the kind of place you want to book in advance. I just had my service done on Thursday (10/20/2016) with Jay and I wanted to give myself a few days to see how the color looked post-salon. Sadly, I am very disappointed in my results. I had gone in and met with Jay at a consultation appointment (I highly recommend doing this) a few weeks prior and got an idea for how much what I wanted would cost and then set an appointment for my color and cut service. My starting point for my hair was roughly 1-1 1/2" +/- of regrowth (I am a natural medium-light neutral blonde with gold undertones) with the majority of my hair an icy basically white platinum. From a having the platinum color done previously at another salon, I had some mild banding mid shaft and discoloration from mid shaft to the ends (basically the upper 1/3 of my hair was white platinum and the lower 2/3rds were more yellow). REQUESTED: Originally at my consultation I had requested the banding to be fixed, all over color on the roots, and to have an even tone root to ends. I didn't want to be white or grey, but needed to remain very bright as in the summers I am an Elsa look-alike and would need to return to the icy blonde come summer. At my actual appointment, we decided that to avoid upkeep through the winter Jay would balayage my roots (basically creating a shadow root) but bring the brightness all the way up to frame my face. The rest of my original request did not change (fix the banding and have an even tone for all of the area that wasn't left natural, not white or grey blonde). RESULT: My hair lifted ultra light/white. Jay used a toner that I haven't had used on my hair before and that he had very little experience using. My hair ended up bright white tinged with violet at the top, yellow tinged at mid-shaft, and grey for the last 1/3. Not a fan. The balayage did not turn out the way I expected, instead of a shadow root and face framing highlight; the line of demarcation had been blurred slightly but nothing more. The banding is still present though less obvious (yay toner). The most surprising is that the toner actually changed my natural root color to be more brassy and warm... basically meaning my hair will have to be re-toned and touched up again instead of being able to just grow out. I waited to review because Jay had stated that the violet tones and grey tones would dissipate... they have not. Jay is great to work with and just for his bubbly personality I wish I could give a 5 star review. But for the money, I am not pleased and am disappointed with my results. read more

My hair barely touches my shoulders - it is not that long and I don't understand why they tried to charge extra. Gel mani advertised on their website as $35 INCLUDING gel soak off, but they charged me $40 and said the soak off was an extra $5. I didn't argue because they already adjusted the price of the hair color, but this was wrong. $40 for a gel mani just seems way too expensive. Each visit was $100 - but this seemed to be in line with other professional make up artists. The makeup photographs well, too. She uses professional grade stuff that won't reflect off the flash or make you look like a clown in person. You look natural in person and in the photographs. Not many artists get that right.
