I like this salon as I have come a time or two in the past everyone is always nice and polite and my hair always comes out good plus it's close to home but recently they have had a new front desk girl with blue hair. She is so rude whenever I come in just says "name" not how are you or how's your day or would you like a drink, she always looks mad and unprofessional, as the first person you meet when you come in the salon it's a let down when your excited but she makes it seem like your bothering her. Also somehow she came up as a recommended person you may know on fb and it's weird to me that this would be a picture she would post in the salon Joa bathroom ‍ fitting I guess. I was going back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to say anything at all but as I've been growing increasingly frustrated since my appointment, I decided I should. I received a new full set at Salon Joa and am incredibly disappointed with my experience. Customer service wise, it was one of the most awkward nail appointments I've had. When I walked in, the gal at the front desk wash polite but JUST enough. Right away, I just didn't feel welcomed in. My nail artist never introduced herself, never greeted me, just told me to sit at her chair. She didn't want to talk I guess because the only conversation she offered was about her recent breakup and lack of makeup on that day. My entire appointment I felt like a burden to my nail artist. My actual results were stunning at first, so I figured I'd book ahead and try her again. Maybe she was just having a bad day? However multiple nails started to lift after only 5 days and some have completely popped off in less then 10 days. $80 down the drain for only 5 days of wear. :( read more

However, I was very pleasantly surprised with Darci, a newer employee at Salon Joa, gave me an amazing bald fade with a perfect blend with barely any input from me all while not missing a beat on conversation and banter. Found my hair colorist ! Cristela really listened to what I want when I showed her various Instagram samples and walked me through expectations and possible outcomes. Since we all know that coloring can be super tricky and have various results based on your hair type and the horrible things you've done to your hair, it's good to have an idea whether your dream Instagram hair would be achievable. Along the process, she explained each and every step of the way which helped me understand my hair better. Also, she's very detailed oriented and checking in with you to make sure you're comfortable with the length before chopping off your hair. Overall, it is on the higher price range for coloring and female hair cut. However, the atmosphere, customer service, and the talent are all worth it. you'll love the result! I moved out to Denver a year ago and this is the third salon I have been to. I started out with a small salon called Smith & Comb, but I didn't like how the availability didn't match my schedule. I then moved to Matthew Morris and my first cut was great, but then my stylist was having family emergencies, and it turned out to be not so great on my hair. I found Salon Joa during Pride month last year because, hey, a gay Asian girl needs to treat herself. My girlfriend and I being total nerds (myself a technologist and her a doctor) got blowouts for once and hit the clubs not too long after. I noticed a lot of people complimented us when we were out. I know the girl who did my blowout was Felicia and she was cool. My girlfriend's I forgot. I find that Salon Joa has very good appointment availability and is accommodating to those willing to try out the place. I was really hesitant to leave MM, but I decided to make a switch to Salon Joa again after my science experiment with Korean hair color from HMart went wrong. I booked a last minute appointment and Crystal took care of me. She didn't have much time, but she really knew what she was doing. And she told me the honest truth, which nobody wanted to tell me. I can't believe I was walking around Denver like I live off of the west side of Colfax past 2 AM. Anyways, I got scheduled with a colorist, Roya, the next day and all was saved. I asked her to make my hair look like ganache chocolate with a hint of red and weeks later, I still get compliments. I'm just writing a review because I really do like this place. However, I tried to call recently looking for a hair appointment with Crystal and the front desk said she wasn't around anymore and told me everyone else is good to cut my hair. No... I have been the one spending my own money. I am open to suggestions but a statement like everyone is good is vague for me. I had an appointment today at 9:30 that I booked with their online system. I had multiple emails and texts stating that my appointment was at 9:30. When I called to tell them I was running 5 mins late and would be there at 9:35, I was told they would not see me because they had me scheduled for 9:15! I explained the texts/emails and they just said "that's weird, but we'll have to reschedule you". No apology, no attempt to correct the error. If they're going to use an online booking system they should confirm it works, and I would expect better customer service since the error was on their end. Super disappointed, but lots of other places to give my business to! read more

I wanted to like this place since it's so close to where I live, but I just don't. My manicure and pedicure were done poorly--the picture of my thumb is at 9:30 at night after my appointment just four hours before. The front desk staff was unfriendly and unprofessional, unless their job is to look bored, in which case they were top notch. The price of $55 for a mani/pedi only felt exorbitant because of the poor quality. They don't even have nail dryers for your pedicure, and even some of the more questionable nail establishments have those. Basically, this place likes to pretend it's fancy when actually it's actually garbage. All fluff, no skill. read more

A friend suggested we try this place and I was absolutely up for it since it has such good reviews and such a high rating. We made an appointment for 3 of us a couple weeks before. One of us, Natalee, ended up having to take an earlier flight out of town and couldn't make her appointment so she called the day prior to cancel and specifically say that the other two would be there. I was with her when she canceled her own appointment. I arrived at the salon only to be informed that they no longer had my appointment in the books, only my friend Cassidy. Which I thought was odd because I had definitely not canceled my appointment. They informed me they had an opening but I couldn't get both the deluxe gel manicure and pedicure as I had requested. They informed me that there was availability later in the day for both me and my friend Cassidy so we moved our appointments. There was no apology for the mistake. We arrived at the salon at 2:50, appointment being at 3, and I left the salon at 6:40. They had put us with a very new tech. Although she was sweet there was a lack of skill there that you'd expect from the salon (as seen through others work as posted on yelp and google). I also find it strange that after they canceled my appointment (without being told or notification) that they didn't put us with someone who would impress and make up for the mistake. They had also forgot to put me down for gel on my toes, meaning there wasn't enough time slotted and I got normal polish. I got gel polish on my nails. I've been getting gel on my nails for over a year now because I like that it strengthens my nails and prevents them from breaking easily. I also know, through experience, that gel is resilient and doesn't scratch or flake easily. It took 1 hour to do a simple design on 2 of my fingers. The next day both my friend and I have bubbles and wrinkles in the polish. I work as a receptionist and do not put myself in situations that could even begin to scratch or peel the polish. The tech, as mentioned, was very nice and said any issues in the next 2 weeks and I can come back to the salon to fix the polish but honestly I'm not prepared to spend another 2 hours getting a polish fix. It's ridiculous to me that it took 3.5 hours for a manicure and pedicure. I Will not be visiting this salon again in the future. Let me just say this. I had a really bad haircut by another salon because a lot of stylists can't handle Asian hair, especially the thick, full volume ones. Mel is top notch. She is someone who communicates really well about what she is going to do to your hair and does a good job considering what you want. Five stars aren't enough! I love going into Salon Joa for my nail appointment every three weeks or so! Gabie takes her time with my nails, giving me what I want and never scoffing or complaining about the work. She always asks if I like the color or if the shape is correct or if she is doing nail art as I envisioned. Gabie is very talented with acrylic, and I love the way she does my forms! Gabie has a knack for achieving the nail art I want with little direction because she's that awesome! Other places will make you set up an appointment, and then they often aren't ready for you for another 30 mins to an hour. Not at Salon Joa! They've had to eliminate the waiting room because of the pandemic, but they are always ready for you at your specific appointment time. I never feel rushed or like there isn't enough time for what I want for my nails (and I get some cool designs sometimes!). The place is always clean - even the bathroom - and I feel safe because of the measures they've taken for the pandemic. Also, I think it's pretty easy to book online or over the phone for an appointment. I know some people don't think it's so easy, but as a tech-stupid person, I find it super easy. If I could give separate ratings for nails and hair, I'd give 5/5 for mani/pedi and 3/5 for hair. But since I can't, I'm going right in the middle. I came here for a manicure before my wedding and Cassie (?) was amazing. She did a beautiful pearl white and gold sparkle hombre that was exactly what I wanted! I guess I should've known that I was in for a great mani/pedi when the place was booked solid and packed during the middle of a day on a Thursday. The lady who did my mom's nails was really nice too, and helped her pick out the perfect color. After my great mani/pedi, I decided to get my hair cut here too. I'm one of those people who likes getting new suggestions of how to cut my hair (mainly bc I'm boring and I have no idea what to do with it). So when I got sick of my hair, I came in wanting something fresh. I tried to bounce some ideas off the girl cutting my hair but most of her responses were just "it's whatever you want". Maybe I got spoiled by my hair stylist in Sacramento, but I'm way more used to stylists giving suggestions on the cut and the styling. I just moved out here from California end of last year and I've been having a hard time finding a salon so I checked out Yelp and saw that Salon Joa has great reviews and checked it out today! I definitely walked out with satisfaction :) actually even more than that! The staff were great and very friendly. The vibe of the salon was great as well! So I already had a good feeling right when I walked in. Crystal did my hair color and she even fixed my haircut which I am so happy about! I have an A line cut but my left side is super short where they have to buzz and clean it up... Crystal was nice enough to fix it for me and line it up as well along with my color! Not many salon do a great job at it but Crystal did an amazing job and I can't exaggerate enough about it. I am soooo happy that I found this salon. It's literally the best hair and nail salon I've been to. The staff are super friendly and kind. The atmosphere is chic and urban. They provide free alcohol (must be 21+) to their clients! Woohoo!! The only downside is parking. Beware that you can only park in the spaces designated for Salon Joa or else you'll be towed! My hair stylist is Christina and she is the best! She's super sweet and does a great job! Mesh is my nail tech. She does the best Japanese nail art ever! These two ladies are make up my glam squad! I showed up early to my appointment and then was informed when I checked in that my hair stylist was running late due to a flat tire. I asked how long it would be and was told 20-30 min late, although she wasn't sure. I asked if I could swap around my nail appointment then, and then all of a sudden my hair stylist was only going to be 5-10 min late. No apologies. I get that accidents happen, but you'd think they would've at least better acknowledged the inconvenience. I ended up having to switch from a deluxe to a regular manicure because I was worried about time, too. Maybe it would've been fine but I was not at all convinced they were worried about timing. The hair cut was fine, but actually she cut off significantly more than I had asked. I told her I was growing my hair out so take off the smallest amount possible.. she still took off more than an inch. Nails were fast and efficient. My manicurist was friendly and talkative, and did a good job. Even the weird accident aside, though, I'm not sure I could go back. It is not well ventilated and the chemical fumes made my eyes sting for hours after I'd left. I forgot how spoiled I was by my old salon. read more

If I could give it 10 stars I would. Hands down the best experience ever in a salon. Jo did my eyebrows right before the quarantine and I was in love. The atmosphere was classy, professional, and fun. She was easy to communicate with and had a blast chatting with her. My touch up was apart of the price and since the salon had to close I had to wait. I totally understood! She communicated with me while they were closed to make sure my healing process went well and answered any and all of my questions. I was priority when the salon opened to get my touch up. I am beyond happy with my brows. This is the first time in my almost 40years on this earth I can truly say I LOVE MY EYEBROWS. I am way more confident! Thanks Jo! Ok! I have waited a few weeks before posting this review because the last time I had my hair colored, the color changed and I looked like a tiger....It was awful. So, with that being said, after two visits to a salon that had "very good" reviews, my hair was nearly destroyed. I gave it a month or so (trying to let my hair recover) and I just couldn't take it any longer. I found salon Joa on Yelp and booked an appt. My appointment was with Jay and I couldn't be happier!! He did a complete hair make-over and had great suggestions for color, highlights, etc. He didn't damage my hair nor did it turn out a coppery. In fact, it looks healthier than when I went in. I am so happy with the way it turned out. note: I have very dark, mostly box colored hair, which I knew was going to be difficult to lift, but he knew exactly what he was doing! read more

Okay so I wanted to write my good review about this place b/c it was great...and I didn't. Why? B/c then it'd be all full and I wouldn't be able to one day turn around hair cut here. And that would make me a sad panda. However, I have to say this place is great! Very clean, professional and the price is right! Now I could go a few blocks down and pay way more by cool chicks w/ tats (like $20-$30 more) or go here and get an awesome haircut. When I went women's was $35 and men's $25, which you know is more than cost cutters but far less than most salons. Their website didn't list prices, and I'm sure subject to change. Christina cut both mine and the hubs hair and we're both happy even weeks later with the cuts. Location is perfect, near Lowry and Stapleton and there's a parking lot.
