(Darker to Blonde/Silver/Platinum color) Yesterday I took a leap of faith and got Maye to dye my hair, I got to be honest, I lowered my expectations and was prepared for getting something not quite to what I was looking for, I prepared with patience thinking that if I wouldn't get it this time at least on the next one... but let me just say her work exceeded my expectations!!! Yesterday I had an amazing experience. Usually when I go into a salon, hair stylists refuse to cut my long hair.. But I wanted a change and I'm glad I got it! It's been ten years since I've felt bold enough to go above my shoulders and it was the confidence of the women that I was able to still feel confident in deciding to go short. Along with cutting off ten inches, I got a wonderful, relaxing, very informative facial by Cynthia. I not only learned about the different products being put on my face, I became so relaxed towards the end that I dozed off for a bit. So nice.. To just be pampered. I felt so spoiled yesterday. I wish I remembered all their names but I think it's safe to say all the ladies at etcetera salon made me feel special in their own way. It's rare when i get treatment like I did. Maye colored and cut my hair, and I have never loved it more. Why did it take me 39 years to find such a great place??!! Maye will often ask me how I style my hair. This helps her to shape and cut my hair for my style. Because of this, I can actually achieve salon hair at home - thanks, Maye!! And when changing my look, Maye will also suggest colors and cuts that compliment my skin and shape of my face. I tend to have a conservative appearance, but appreciate an updated "do". Maye helps me do just that. The stylists keep up on the latest trends and stay educated. I am always hearing about different trainings they have recently attended. The place is CLEAN!! I had a wedding to go to and heard a lot about this salon so I decided to try them out for myself. I booked the appointment a week prior to the wedding and they were able to fit me in and the time that worked perfectly to me. I let the receptionist know what I wanted done to my hair (Kim K inspired middle part with loose curls/waves) and she told me that they would be more then happy to do that for me, so of course I was excited! I show up, check in, and have a seat. The salon inside is extremely clean and very modern and beautifully decorated. A couple minutes later Diana (my hairstylist) greets me and shows me around and then asks me what I wanted done to my hair. I show her a picture and she smiles and tells me she would be more then happy to do that for me. As shes working on me we start talking and having great conversations as if we've been friends, it was really a great experience! Then her co-workers bring her a cake and sing happy birthday to her and I felt so bad that she was working on her birthday, but it showed me how dedicated Diana, as well as her co-workers, were to their job and making their clients happy. All in all, Diana did a beautiful job on my hair, everyone else at the salon were inviting and sweet, and the salon it self very well kept and clean. I went to this salon earlier in the summer and was highly disappointed after reading all their great reviews....well not to mention the high price I paid for their services. I I had Alana which according to all the reviews I was confident however that wasn't the case. At my appointment I'd asked for full highlights and thought that I could trust that with my natural dark hair they would lift it correctly. The owner even came out a couple times to "train" Alana how to properly apply highlights with foil. With this attempt from the owner highlights on the crown was uneven from the rest of my head. Thicker then I wanted it as I mentioned to Alana at the beginning of our appointment. However the owner thought she knew what she was doing and gave her professional two sense. It took nearly 3 1/2 hours to get highlights! And the results..... brassy, (like no toner was used at all like asked), uneven lighting throughout the strand of hair, highlights were thicker on top making it look chunky and definitely not the result I'd requested or paid over $250. So overall, disappointed at ever level. Haven't been back, have found better elsewhere and not ever thinking of even recommending anyone. read more

Bought a discount on Sacramento Perks - took me 9 months to use it & I wish I had those 9 months back. Went in for a facial with Cynthia - just hit 40 & have some sun spots and fine lines I want to work on. She talked with me for a good half hour about what I wanted to accomplish & then actually did it! I am that annoying customer that goes in clueless and asks the stylist to just make me beautiful. I went in for a color and didn't have anything specific in mind. I'm simply asked whatever she did to be low maintenance. Janet was absolutely patient and amazing through the whole process. She made me feel relaxed and explained what she intended to do thoroughly and patiently. Furthermore the end result says it all. This review is regarding customer service in general at this salon. I am wanting to buy a hidden hair crown (extensions) and this salon is listed as a stockist for them. I called three times with no answer. I left a message that was not returned. I went to the salon since I couldn't get ahold of anyone and they do not even have the product. The customer service I received when I was there was poor, and it took 5 minutes for someone to even speak to me. I would suggest removing your salon from the hair crown website as you do not in fact carry these and it would be helpful if someone answered the phone and/or returned messages. read more

This is a great salon. The staff is upbeat and happy. Maye, the owner, is wonderful with color. I've gone to this salon twice, once with an amazing groupon & the second time because I was thrilled with the results. I got a full head of highlights on my first visit and they were gorgeous!! Never have I ever had such a good experience. My second visit was 6 months later. I got a trim & had my highlights blended to mellowed out my summer look. I was very pleased once again with the results, however I was not so please with the price. It was over $150, which I thought was ridiculous. About a week before my appointment I purchased extensions from Bellami (guy tang #8/#60) and I loved the transition of my natural blonde/brown to golden blonde and then platinum color of the extensions but I wanted my ends to be more cool blonde like the extensions and the end result is stunning. I gave my home and cell number, didn't receive a call. At that point, who would want to go to this salon anyway!! I bought a Groupon for them for a ombre and hair cut. I called everyday for 4 days until I finally got ahold of them and when I did they said that since I had a Groupon it would take 10 weeks to get me in. I never received any missed calls from them and I don't have my voicemail set up. However, they suggested that if I canceled my Groupon they could give me a good price and get me in sooner. I asked for the same cut both times, but the layers she put in my hair the second time were really choppy and uneven. We scheduled an appointment, went in (on time) and Janet was sooo rude to us. Would not even give us the time of day. My sister was at the counter and Janet told her co-worker "I don't have time for this stuff" not knowing that my sister was with us. She did not want to even discuss what we wanted done to our hair. She would not honor the ombre groupon, told us that it would be over $500 for each of us and told us that we would have to put a $200 deposit on each of us ($600) wow. This place is great! I stumbled upon it when, one day, I decided I wanted a whole new cut and color. May (co-owner) took me in late one Saturday, one half hour before close and spent three hours on my hair. She consulted with me in-depth to make sure we got the right color and length. Here, you will get NYC/LA style--without all the pretention! This is an open, airy salon with a very friendly employees. Everyone seems to fall over themselves to provide great service. Parking is super easy, and there's a neat little deli next door where you can grab a Diet Coke before you get styled. But mostly, you'll go to Salon ETC for the great stylists. Services can be on the expensive side BUT when it comes to my hair, I've found the old saying "You get what you pay for" is true. As the economy tanked, I tried a couple other salons. But I'm back with Olga, who always gives me stunning color and a great cut that is hip--and easy to care for, even though it's long. The staff also has excellent advice on what products will keep my hair healthiest. Speaking of products--oh my gosh, don't walk out of there without buying Moroccan Oil. I resisted it for months because I thought it was expensive. Now I know that a little goes a lonnnng way, so it's a great investment. It not only protects your hair against the ill effects of blow drying and flat irons--it makes your hair shine like crazy! IT IS THE BEST HAIR PRODUCT EVER!!!!! I went in to try to find a person who would be able to match a hair piece that my husband liked. When I arrived as a walked in just to check it our, they stopped what they were doing and check out my hair piece and my own hair and together came up with a plan of action to make me happy. I set up an appointment that day as I really felt that this will finally be the place that knows how to do what I wanted, not what they wanted to do with my hair. When I arrived for that appointment, everyone was very nice...called me by name, offered me something to drink then off we went looking at the color book. Maye was an expert at matching colors and getting the blonde color that I really wanted, not the color that everyone else has. You know what I mean, you walk down the street and see a lot of girls with blonde hair and they all look the same color. I sat back and relaxed while off they went mixing up color for my hair. When they were ready...I saw 8 bowls of color! EXCTALY what I wanted, someone who knew how to do a multi-color weave, just not two or three colors, but EIGHT! She told me respectfully that in order to get my hair that light I would have to do it in increments. From the very first session to the last, I became more impressed with Janet's work!
