Overall they were great! Really did good job with my daughter's hair! I'm just a bit bummed because I went to them due to seeing them at the Randolph fest where I won a certificate for 25 dollars. I remember telling the girls at the fest, oh this would be great for my daughters cut and they both were like yesss come on in! But when I went to redeem my certificate, the lady at the front said not valid on child cuts... but that's nowhere written in the certificate. But they rectified this! Laura was my daughter's artist and she did incredible! read more

WOW. JUST WOW!!! I had a hair emergency and needed a color and cut asap for an event, and came to this gem. My friend recommended this place in West Loop. A little pricey, but boy do they make you look and feel like a QUEEN!! They were super awesome and fit me in last minute. I saw Eddie and Jim for my cut and color. I had been going to the same hair salon in Logan square for 10 years, so I was hesitant about seeing someone else. Jim was super knowledgeable and knew the color to use for my skin tone. He is honestly a magician with a brush. The apprentice that washed my hair was also such a sweetheart and took his time to wash and give a relaxing head massage. Then it was Eddie's turn to finish me off. I've never seen a man work so fast and so good w a pair of scissors. He was such a pro. He's a young man, so I was shocked just how good he is at his craft. I walked in hiding my hair underneath a winter hat, and came out feeling like a million $$$$$$$. Bottom line: they will get the job done the right way! Don't miss out! read more

I honestly don't have the words to express how special this place is. Salon DJ is somewhere you can put in full faith that the team here will leave you better than they found you every single time. This staff is so incredibly dialed in, in sync, and just so incredibly nice. You can actually feel it when you walk in. --Robert, the manager, is so very kind and accommodating. --Annie, who cut my hair, SO sweet and easy to talk to. The cut was literally perfect. --And Jim... Jim is the f**king best. I've never gotten such a perfect highlight in all my life. He is a literal diamond of a human. This place is the real deal. I am so beyond impressed with this team and how they operate. You are doing yourself a huge service by choosing to get your hair done here. I trust these people with my life now. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. read more

The salon accommodated our group and went out of their way to provide stylists for us at the time we needed.

Found SalonDJ on Yelp. I'm new to Chicago. And the amazing reviews were 100% accurate!!! As you can see from the pic, my hair was a brassy Covid train wreck of boxed colors. And my last trim was done by my sister in her kitchen with craft scissors six months ago. I was one of many who was laid off during covid. Salon visits weren't in the budget for over a year. I'm finally employed again and having Jim magically transform my color and Valerie give me a beautiful cut... well, it made me want to cry it felt so good. You have to ask for them!! And I forgot the name of the lovely lady who shampooed my hair. Probably because it put me in a trancelike state. Utter bliss. I'm a loyal client forever now! No one else is touching my hair again!! read more

For my blondies, brownies, redheads and anyone in between - but especially for ladies or gents looking to lighten up for the spring or summer - YOU MUST go to Salon DJ! While all their stylists and colorists are fabulous, ask for Jim Clark! I have naturally dark brown hair just past shoulder length, and I decided to change it up since it's been a few years. I cannot thank Jim enough for the lovely journey he has taken me on to get it perfect, starting with some gorgeous highlights all the way to what I have now, pictured here. My hair has remained healthy and vibrant all throughout my experience thanks to Jim's care, product recommendations and absolute top quality experience at SalonDJ! read more

The first time Kelsey did my hair, I told her I wanted to go as light as possible to eventually get to an ashy silver blonde, and wanted no gold tones at all. I am a natural dirty blonde who hadn't had my hair dyed in over 2 years, so figured it would take 2ish sessions. When finished, it looked like it still had undertones of gold which i mentioned, so she offered a silver toner for me to purchase and use the next day as she didn't want to push it in the session. I did and unfortunately it didn't help much, so she brought me back in and was kind enough to tone the gold out for free. This time, I made sure to show a specific picture of where I wanted to get, and she only touched up my roots and tried to tone the rest. She asked my thoughts post drying, and I said it wasn't as light as I wanted and was still getting some gold tones. She said it would lighten more once I washed with my violet shampoo. (Pic of what I wanted and where I ended up are attached). Does my hair look cute? Sure it's fine. Is it what I wanted? Absolutely not. I feel like I've wasted almost $800 now and would have appreciated an honest answer at my initial appointment on if she could actually get me there or not. I really wanted to like this place, it's super cute inside and the people are nice! I won't be going back and would not recommend Kelsey if this is the color you are looking to get to. read more

Cannot say enough good things about Paige. I've gotten a ballyage (I can never spell it and she is SUPER nice about that) from her three times now, and my color is AMAZING. Not to be hyperbolous, but she is the best. Really. As far as lightening goes, she did take her time - it takes a hot minute to go from brown to platinum, sorry not sorry. But it was worth the wait. My hair is not only blonde AF but it's healthy. Multiple treatments were worth it. This might be a silly thing to say, but I have a touch of social anxiety as far as this kind of thing goes and Paige is great about sensing when I want to chat and when I just want to not chat. She's a delightful person in addition to the important thing which is being really talented. Also, it's covid so you know I have to mention THAT SANITATION GURL. They took my temp, sanitized my hands, and I saw a lot of wiping down/cleaning. The salon clearly cares about their employees and that translates into caring about their clients. I felt totally safe. read more

**If this review assisted in your decision making in anyway please state so with a referral at the salon.** I transitioned here from seeing my hair stylist whom I was with for years! It was a tough decision but one I am happy with. I came here and saw Valerie. She was very attentive and empathetic to my hesitation with switching stylists which was very much appreciated and had me feeling much more comfortable. Overall the studio is very chic and the decor has some western accent pieces and is also modern. The products they use are Oribe, which had a very nice scent to it and the hairspray was fantastic. I do wish the stylist had either the same or (very) similar styling tools. This part felt like the salon didn't have a cohesive approach to branding. The customer service is fantastic, offering water, wine and it's easy to feel welcomed here. This was great as I was here for some time getting a cut and added some mocha baylage (this took a while). Loved the results! Check out the salon's and Valerie's Instagram page for more examples. read more

The superstar of hair stylists in Chicago and the suburbs is Karah, who is one of a kind to be sure. Using the very top of the line equipment in clippers she is able select the precise blade size that will make the difference in getting a good styling and one that really stands out from any other. While being very meticulous she is not going to run the clock out by superficially snipping away as I've experienced in salons with supposedly great reputations. It is not surprising that Karah is heavily booked, and no doubt heavily recruited by other salons. She is not going to just try and copy the style you walked in with, but create and/or modify the style that you actually want, as men change their hair style from time to time just as women do. With her vivacious personality and energy she would even get an introverted person engaged in what she is doing, so as to bring about the best desired result. She is not going to fly solo and just hope her client is satisfied at the end, which I've experienced in some salons. If you are a conversationalist, Karah will make the time fly by with her engaging and humorous personality. After a hair cutting/styling session with Karah, you are not going to walk away thinking you were paying mainly for a salon's reputation. I know that I will no longer dread how my hair appointment is going to turn out or if the stylist just went through the motions. read more

Let me start by saying you can't go wrong at Salon DJ. From the moment you walk in, everyone is so lovely. The staff is kind and the stylists are knowledgeable. They meet with every client to determine what they are looking for, get a feel for who they are, and then guide them to the best care. The entire experience is exactly what a salon should be. They take care of you from start to finish with no exceptions! Salon DJ is my favorite salon I have ever been to, from the atmosphere to the people - an overall 10/10 experience! Obviously I am biased, but Karah is the absolute BEST. I moved to Chicago and didn't cut my hair for a year and half because I didn't trust anyone. Enter Karah. I will never see anyone else for my hair ever again! I trust her implicitly and she has even gotten me to experiment with styles, colors, treatments, all which have helped my hair tremendously. My hair is the healthiest it has been in YEARS and it is all thanks to Karah. She is so meticulous at every appointment and is constantly educating herself and mastering new skills all of which then is directly passed on to her clients' benefit. I have gotten to the point where I just do what Karah tells me to! It is a relationship I have never had with any stylist, but with Karah, I know she always has my best interest and I know she would never do something on me that she wouldn't do on herself. She is pure magic! read more

Valerie is absolutely amazing! I was looking to try something new, and Salon DJ Hairtography was right next to work. Valerie became my stylist and talked me through what I was looking on changing and playing around with. She walked me through a few styles and I could not trust her more. She's extremely knowledgable and patient with someone who, for the most part, just pulls her hair up in a ponytail. Valerie decided to play with my bangs a bit and I am in love. Thank you for hiding my five-head! We played with a little bit of curl and wave to add body to my thin, stick-straight hair. I have love my hair every time I get out of her chair. The Oribe products that she uses smell amazing and my hair feels so natural after, but still retains the style! On my first visit, while we were talking about what I was looking to do with my hair, I told her that I wanted to cut it short and go blonde. I've never seen someone more excited, and I honestly couldn't trust anyone more. Valerie took the time to make sure that my hair was completely lifted. I was in that chair for a very, VERY long time, but she made sure I was comfortable, checked in and told me everything that was happening. I love this. I love it, love it, love it. My hair doesn't feel fried, no matter what I do to it, I feel great in this new blonde style. I cannot recommend Valerie enough. She's fantastic and I would trust her to do anything to my hair. read more

Annie has been taking absolutely excellent care of my long-neglected quarantine hair! It had been over 6+ months of no color/haircut, and I was not sure if I was a hopeless case! As a fellow cosmetologist, i was super nervous to be a client for the first time in another salon. She gave me the best haircut of my life, my fine, limp, mop has never looked better. She also gave me the perfect balayage! Usually my hair pulls very warm/brassy, and she masterfully managed to give me the perfect pearlescent highlights. I'm in love! I went to SalonDJ Hairtography for a trim and blowout with deep conditioning. I hadn't ever been there before so was really happy they had a good amount of street parking outside. Annie at SalonDJ is a color miracle worker. I came in with some poorly toned yellow hair and dreams of being more of an icicle white unicorn! I have been a client of Salon DJ since it first opened. I found the parking in the area at that time was difficult, but it was worth it then and now, since there is an adjacent parking lot (discount offered from salon), I find it a pleasure. The other pleasure is the customer service, complementary drinks offered upon entering the very cool designed salon. Every detail has been covered to bring comfort, personal attention and friendliness to everyone who comes in. My colorist, Jim Clark is exceptional in his Kraft. I find finding the perfect color hues for my mousy brown hair is a challenge, but Jim seems to find the perfect color which makes me so happy. He finds the right time to put highlights in to complement the overall look. And then there is Eddie Diebold. New to the salon, he has become a tremendous asset to the salon. He trims, cuts and styles my head of quite curly hair into a smooth, gorgeous way. I am never disappointed. He is so speedy with the shears, I'm always amazed how he does it. Whenever I leave Salon DJ I feel pretty and sexy. Daniel, the owner, has done a great job bringing these masters to his Mecca of Beautification. read more

Amy has been my stylist for several years. Where do I begin? She is fantastic! She works very hard, has an incredibly high service standard for the salon, is professional but so friendly. I absolutely love Salon DJ! Everyone who works there is kind, helpful and clearly cares so much about their customers and providing an amazing experience. The salon is gorgeous and has such a fun vibe. Never a bummer spending a few hours getting pampered in this space! I have been going to Jim and Karah for about 4 years and they brought my hair back from the dead. At this point I usually let them do their thing and they never steer me wrong. If I have a strong opinion of what I want they always nail it too. Jim is a blonde guru. It's always perfect and I get so many compliments for weeks after. Karah's cuts are perfection. She is so thoughtful and balances keeping my hair healthy and making sure I get what I want from the cut (currently growing it out). They're both dedicated to their craft and stay up on new techniques, products and trends and it shows! Could not recommend this team or Salon DJ more. WOW! I took a chance on SalonDJ after two different colorists at Salon 1800 completely failed at giving me the white blonde hair I had before moving to Chicago. When I walked into SalonDJ my once white blonde hair was an ashy brown because of a root tap. I felt terrible and just prayed Jim could make me brighter, if not white blonde like I had been before. I also needed a haircut, so I booked with Karah after reading these two were a dynamic duo. First thing's first - the salon itself is a gorgeous space and the folks at the front desk were super welcoming, offering a variety of beverages. Phew. I already felt better. I was greeted promptly by both Karah and Jim, which I loved because it meant I didn't have to explain what I wanted twice. You can tell instantly that these two have worked together for years because their recommendations play off one another. Jim would say or suggest something and then Karah would complement it. They seemed to really "get it" and when Jim went to mix up my color I was feeling confident, but not sure - I had been recently wronged twice and was still nervous. I won't go through all the details of the next four hours Jim and Karah spent on my hair but suffice to say they absolutely nailed it. Jim exceeded my expectations. I'm a bright blonde again and feel like myself. We both agreed that the next I see him I can be platinum. Karah cut my hair afterward and took so much time making sure we preserved length while cutting off the split ends. I'm SO happy with my hair and glad I found these two. Not only are they extremely talented but also fabulous to talk to - I couldn't have felt more comfortable while I spent five hours here (I was even offered - and accepted - wine as the afternoon went on). I should also mention that SalonDJ carries top-notch products, including Kevin Murphy, Olaplex, and Oribe, and Karah gave me some great recommendations without being pushy. Like most blondes, I am SO particular about my hair. I can't recommend Jim and Karah enough and already booked my appointment to see them again in six weeks! read more

Jim is responsible for doing the BEST blonde in the entire city (and every other color need you have - forgive my blonde bias). Despite several relocations over the last 15years there was not even a question that I would fly back to Chicago specifically because I trusted no one to do my color except Jim. Every time I leave the salon I swear he does something that makes it seem better and brighter than the last time - and this recent visit was no exception. Total mastery!! To top off amazing color by Jim, Richelle has been doing my cutting, styling and extensions for the same length of time and through my moving across country. Precision with placement and always doing above and beyond what I expect with the turnout is hard pressed to find so take my word for it when I say Richelle has that and more. I made an appointment here because i was recommended. I LOVED a haircut i got, it was perfect. However, I made the mistake of trusting this establishment with a balayage.
