I got a yelp account to review this place because I was just that appalled. I got a tanning membership there because it was nearby, the pricing was fair, and they were pet friendly. Those are the nicest things that I can say. So the employees there are just the sweetest people, but the owner Matt is moody at best and obnoxious at worst. A few days ago, the Monday after Pride Weekend, Matt lost his temper at me for no apparent reason, (his Pride wasn't great or somebody else agitated him that day?). He started screaming at me in the street and accused me of calling one of his other customers names, why would anybody go and do that? I have a small package because that's all that I would ever need. I guess that he was frustrated that he couldn't up-sell me any of the other multifarious extra stuff that just wouldn't be a good fit for me. By the way, I bought a tanning lotion online because they didn't sell a brand that I like. Matt actually said "I don't need the $180 dollars that you spend at my salon, it's too much work, you f***ing Jew." That's right Matt doesn't like Jewish people or he believes that people who don't spend a huge amount of money must be Jewish. Last I checked, spending over a $100 is a sizable amount, but I wasn't buying his most profitable merchandise - that must be it. I saw another yelp review (see Dana L's review which might be one of the "filtered" reviews - http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=CXOHNc6R45TVgX804yLeKg) where in Matt made Anti-Semitic remarks to another person too. I'm not Jewish though, but all that says is that Matt isn't cut out to run a Nazi eugenics program. It's really shocking that somebody with two synagogues in the neighborhood would actually scream Anti-Semitic comments in the street. His other customers, the people on the street, and the people in the bar next door heard Matt ranting about not liking Jews. I guess that only gentiles are treated respectfully at Halsted Street Beach which the owner wanted to be public about. I was thinking about going somewhere else for the last several weeks because Matt had been exceptionally nasty around me and I considered some other issues that I was aware of. I'm hesitant to go into the details on the internet, but let's just say there are some POWERFUL and COMPELLING reasons that I would NEVER want to get a waxing or facial, well anything in the massage room would be poor judgment. You want to avoid this place. The owner Matt is only nice when you first buy something or if he believes that he can talk you into making a large purchase. There are plenty of other reputable places that you can go. Most of the customers are new customers, from some online deal. Matt is losing his long time customers for a variety of good reasons. read more

I just needed to take a moment and write a review for Halsted Street Beach. I will start off by saying that I am not an avid Yelper. In fact, had it not been for such outstanding service I would not have even considered it. I moved to Chicago about one year ago, and have had my fair share of tanning catastrophes. I had attempted to get a spray tan from LA Tan (in their Mystic Tan machine), and it did NOT turn out very well. I was confused, as it was my first time getting a spray tan, and I was not properly told what to do/expect. I researched a little bit and decided to settle on HSB due to the excellent reviews on Yelp and the fact that it was so close. I spoke with an employee on the phone (Bryan) and he walked me through every single step and told me what to expect. I walked in and had the extreme pleasure of meeting Matt, the owner. He was very helpful and very friendly. He gave me advice on how to take care of my face, and took me to the spa room and cleaned my face and zapped my skin with high-frequency and didn't charge me! (and it has made SUCH a difference!) After my mini-facial, I walked back to get my spray (done by Cole) and I have to say it was the best spray tan I have ever gotten! He took his time, made sure he was thorough, and the end result was outstanding. I would definitely suggest this tanning salon to anyone that is in need of a friendly, relaxing place to de-stress. They have gained a loyal customer out of me, and I will most definitely be tanning there for as long as I am in Chicago! read more

Hands down the best tanning salon in the city! I always look forward to walking in and being greeted by such a friendly staff. They are more than happy to answer any and all of my questions, especially when it comes to all the different packages and tanning lotions they offer (which they usually have some kind of deal going on for!) Highly recommend the spray tans here as well. Kyle is so friendly and efficient, you're in and out (and GLOWING) before you even know it because he makes the entire experience very comfortable and fun. Perfect for any big event that you have coming up Times are super weird right now due to COVID but I appreciate the measures they take to make everyone feel safe while there. This is my favorite tanning salon in Chicago! It's located right on the corner of Broadway and Halsted in Boystown and the staff is super friendly. They have a great early bird special, if you get there before noon on weekdays a 20 min tan is only 5.00!! We began the facial at 12:35 and she was finished by 1:22 so I did not receive a full hour facial. Any skin issues I mentioned to her she just repeated back to me when she was examining my face.
