This was her first Brazilian wax, and although it was an overall comforting experience for her, the job was incomplete. A few years ago I used to get Brazilian waxes every 6 weeks, but I had to stop because of severe irritation bumps I always experienced the days following that sometimes left my skin scarred. Through trial and error, I realized that hard wax gives me the LEAST irritation, but I still always experienced irritation pustules within hours after the wax that would last for several days following the wax....UNTIL NOW. Frances was sweet, patient, and listened to all my concerns in regards to having some bad experiences at a certain waxing chain. She talked me through any discomfort I had (it had been awhile since my last waxing) and gave me some great advice on how to keep ingrown hairs at bay. Hard to find!! This is definitely in Lincoln Park, not Ukrainian Village, Yelp-masterminds. And there are TWO entrances to 2551 N. Clark - make sure you enter through the SOUTH entrance (to the right of the barber shop, not the left), labeled as Studio Salon, where you have to go down stairs right after you walk in. There's a suite 200 in the north entrance too but they will have no idea what you're talking about if you walk in and announce you're there for your Brazilian. Frances is lovely - totally welcoming and unintimidating. She's fast, smart, friendly, and great at what she does. She uses brand new wax for every client and shows it to you before it's melted so you can be sure that you won't have a double-dip from anyone else. The wax she uses hardens and pulls off on it's own, no cloth strips, which is tougher for the esthetician to learn how to use but better for your skin, and Frances recently got certified to teach other estheticians how to use it, so she definitely knows her stuff. I was asking around at yoga class for a great wax place that uses hard wax (by far the least painful for me). This girl recommended Frances and I'm so glad I took her advice. My "situation" was a little 70s porn star so I needed a serious clean up. First, I found parking on Clark Street in the middle of a Friday afternoon (good omen). Then, I went into the building, which has a series of small businesses in one room settings in the basement level. I was a little early, and beautiful friendly Francis (who radiates calm and professionalism) greeted me with a big smile. She was cleaning her studio (another good omen - clean is the No. 1 thing just before pain free when it comes to my lady parts). Let me just say, I've only been exposed to the blue hard wax but Francis uses this amber colored pine resin wax that is EVEN BETTER! It smells like a Christmas tree and she heats up a small special vat of it just for you so you know there is no double dipping going on with wax that was used on (gross) someone else. My whole Brazilian was over in 15 minutes and it was far more painless than any other wax I've ever had. Plus, I got some great tips about paddle boarding on the canal (thanks, Francis for that!). I'll be honest...getting hair ripped off my hoo-ha is not painless, nor is it something I look forward to. However, if you are looking at this review, then you're one of us who is a slave to their personal appearance in the buff. I have ONLY had waxing done by Frances Vera/Pritty Kitty--which includes brazilians, eyebrows, legs, and underarms at one point or another--so I have no basis of comparison, really. I have gone to spa parties (5 or more people equals a free service for the host! Get drunk with your friends and get some hair ripped off! But don't worry, it's all done privately in another room) and had her come to my home when it's just me, and both are a very fine experience. Frances chats away, keeping your mind off what she is doing, keeping you distracted while the business gets done. And she is QUICK. She does not prolong the agony, nor does she make it embarrassing.
