Trisha gives the best haircuts!! And she is such a nice person! Plus the prices here are very reasonable for the River North area.

I had a very bad experience getting highlights at this salon, they just look horrible. A month later and I still get pissed about it when I come across a mirror... Anyway, long story short, unless you know the person that is going to work on your hair don't go there. Or at least, first have a peak at the "highlights" section of the salon. Your hair will look just like all the lined up women in there no matter what your request/preference is: tiny streaks of yellow (in some cases asymmetrical, on an orange background). My "specialist" (Nadia) lacked basic common sense and disregarded every single very detail-oriented instruction I gave her. She also did everything I told her NOT TO DO: dye my hair orange, leave the top of my head with no highlights etc, etc. I also warned her that she will run out of time/color, which she did and left me standing there half-way done for a while. You know... those chemicals working on half of my hair, but not the other half. Oh, and they charged me ~$200 for ruining my hair. I was so upset that I requested a fix-up immediately. She tried, but made things worse I think. Anyway, I complained to the salon manager (Kristin) and she suggested that I come in for another fix-up. Fool me once, fool me twice type of thing.... Ariel at Salon Buzz River North has worked a miracle with my naturally curly/frizzy hair with the Brazilian Blowout. She also cuts/styles my hair. I'm very happy with her, and she has turned my hair from frizzy and a pain to style into sleek and silky - I've actually received comments, "I like your color" (I have natural red hair) and I said - it's not color - it's the Brazilian Blowout that brings out my natural shine/color, which was less noticeable when it was curly/frizzy! Katherine Dini is a MASTERFUL colorist. Only reason I can't give the salon all 5 stars is because the rest of the experience is sadly lacking, what with the prototypical sloppy assistants (they serve the colorists and stylists, people, not the clients, beware), snotty staff and very cramped quarters. But, after trying another place I realize my loyalty to Katherine is not misplaced. She is the best. Highly recommend. read more

I had my hair cut and colored at a new salon the night before heading to Chicago for a 10 day business trip. After a horrible experience at the salon at home, I was in need of a color correction in Chicago ASAP. Salon Buzz was recommended to me by a friend and they were my saving grace. They were able to get me in for a consultation and correction the same day I called/flew into Chicago. Kelly stayed late for me and did an AMAZING job on my color. Best salon in Chicago! I love Salon Buzz. I've been going here for a few years now and I see Nora for my color and Lexi for cuts and blowdrys/styling. They are each masters at their craft. I'm never nervous to try something new with these two. I used to be blonde and then went red and both colors were amazing and Nora made the transition super smooth. Lexi is amazing at both cutting and styling hair and she's a wizard at getting you out quick without rushing or sacrificing anything. My best hair days are when I leave Salon Buzz! The front desk staff is also great. Tokyo in particular is super friendly and helpful. This salon just makes you feel good when you're there. Want a magazine? Someone will gladly bring you a stack of your favorites. Thirsty? They've got a variety of complimentary teas to choose from. I'm not a very fancy person myself but it's always fun to go somewhere where they make you feel fancy :) read more

I just moved here from NY and needed to get my hair colored. I had been to the salon previously for a blow out with Carly, who did a good job and recommended Kelly for color. Just got my hair done and Kelly did a fantastic job. I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for, given the change of seasons, but she listened to me and managed to come up with something perfect. The salon is huge and very modern/nicely decorated. The front desk & checkout staff were very sweet, but I won't be returning here unless it's with a different stylist! My overall cut was relatively good, I've definitely had better elsewhere. They have an apprenticeship program so a couple of their stylists only charge $30 for a pro-level haircut so factor that into my review - this doesn't reflect the other stylists just one of the apprentice stylists, Jordan. She was very nice in the beginning when discussing what style I was looking for & during the initial cut. Towards the middle of the haircut, she was *very* rough with my hair repeatedly combing through a clearly tangled section of my hair yanking my head around. That was definitely not comfortable, but I didn't want to be rude by asking her to stop. Before the blow-out, she used the "bumble & bumble thickening spray" all over my hair (and face!!!) that has now caused me to break out. She did nothing to protect my face from the spray so I know it's the cause because I now have 3 huge zits near my hairline (with no adjustments to my normal facial routine)! Lastly, I came in with very long hair and asked to keep the length with some re-layering.. I re-washed my hair since it was so full of product after leaving and I now see that she definitely trimmed more than I requested. It'll grow back soon so I'm not worried but I definitely will be looking for a new stylist next time! read more

Went in for a color (gray) for my long hair. A band of gold color appeared about chin length. The top and bottom looked good but this gold band was awful. Returned a week later to correct and they charged me to fix their mistake. Spoke to the manager (Mimi, I believe) who was rude and uncompromising. Will not return and will not recommend to others. read more

I've known Andreas and he has cut my hair for 20+ years, so you could say I'm a bit biased. I've also been cut by Erik and Jeannine has colored my hair as well (both are fabulous!). The facials are wonderful, a very relaxed, refreshing experience! I can't say enough positive things about the salon. The all around quality is top notch and Andreas tries very hard to maintain a high standard for all the services offered at salon buzz. If something is wrong, contact him and it will be made right. I've been to great upscale salons with great looking stylists and have never gotten an attitude like this, my color with sherry looks green and was very expensive for me to walk out unhappy. BAIT-AND-SWITCH! Do not go to this salon! They told me over the phone how much the service that I wanted would cost before I made the appointment. After the appointment was made, I double checked to make sure that that is in fact how much it will cost. I was told YES. When I went to pay, it was almost 50% more than what I was quoted. I called the next day to talk to the manager, explained what had happened. Turns out the person I talked to was NOT the manager, and they would not refund me the money because the service was already rendered. It made no difference to them that I was told one thing, but was charged something totally different. read more

I have been a client at Salon Buzz for around 6 years now and I have ALWAYS appreciated the exceptional service I receive from the very talented professionals. I sometimes make impulsive decisions to cut/color my hair, and usually know exactly what I want. Sometimes I don't know what I want, and the stylists/colorists always take charge and tell me what we should do based on the information I do give. I appreciate them taking charge and using their expertise to tell me what I should try and I am NEVER disappointed. They always squeeze me in and take excellent care of me. About a year and a half ago I went through chemotherapy treatments and knew I was going to lose my hair. My stylist, Alyssa, generously donated her time to come help me with cutting off my hair in fun styles along the way, and she and Carly have helped me with all the cuts in the growing out process. Kelly even stayed late the other night so I didn't have to come back another day for color. Losing your hair sucks, and growing it back is frustrating, but having a patient, understanding team that is able to interpret the direction I am trying to go makes it a little easier. Salon Buzz does do perfect highlights and it is expensive, but worth it. However, many of the girls there are extremely arrogant and elitist. If you do not go there wearing a Valentino bag and some Christian Louboutin pumps, they will look at you with hate like you are the scum of the earth so I suggest going dressed in your Sunday's best unless you want to feel out of place. Anyway, I do not think I will be returning to Salon Buzz anytime soon because I used to see one of the students named John. He was really good and did perfect highlights on my hair. I seriously never had my hair any better. I have been around to many different salons. John was the best though. Today I found out that he is no longer at Salon Buzz though. I wanted to go bring him something because I did not have that much cash on me to give him a good tip last time. I would go see somebody else at Salon Buzz, but they are expensive and I do not know if they will do my hair as good as John did it. I would have gladly paid full price to see John again. I used to go here to the "school" on Tuesdays to get highlighted. When my usual person was promoted, I was assigned "John". He was very pleasant but he totally ruined my hair. I just wanted highlights and lowlights. I ended up witha big mousy brown mix of hair. When I tried to speak to the front desk/management about how unhappy I was, initially the Asian boy at the front desk gave me attitude and told me I signed a contract and would have to pay twice. He also would not reschedule me to be "fixed". I ended up being rescheduled by the manager but I had to see the same guy who messed up my hair the first time. He messed it up again the second time, so I gave up and went and paid full price at TRIO on Wabash to get my hair back to normal. DO NOT GO TO SALON BUZZ!!!!! You get what you pay for! Having students practice on your hair is very risky behavior! I would NEVER go back!!!! Also, if you make an apt at the school, they are known for cancelling at the last minute, so never assume they are keeping an apt...just expect to be cancelled on in case they do (as they usually do)....this way you can have a back up plan when they flake. read more

his was the second time I visited Buzz Salon. The first time I got a fantastic cut. The second time I went to a different hairdresser because I couldn't remember the name of the first and they couldn't find me in the system. I asked for a stylist who was particularly good with curly hair. The hairdresser was very nice. I told her I wanted to keep my length as long as possible and add just a few layers to give it body. Well, she cut layers so steep and uneven into the side of my hair that they looked like a staircase. From the front my hair looks eight inches shorter than from the back. And she left just a few little strands in the back. In the front some of the layers were so short that they stuck out on top of my head. Basically, it looked like hell. But the real problem was when I called to complain. Buzz wanted me to wait five days before looking at it to fix it. And said they had to charge me an additional $25 for the more expensive stylist who'd be available then. Not exactly customer friendly. So I called the second location on Delaware Pl. and after pressuring the manager I got an appointment t o see the original hairdresser I had seen on my first visit (another employee found me in the system). After spending $15 to park and waiting 20 minutes she looked at it only to say she couldn't fix it - too much had been cut off and it was too uneven. She said to make it even she'd have to cut eight inches off the bottom. Or I need to wait TEN weeks until it grows and then we'll see what we can do. The manager said all he could do was give me a credit for my next visit. I said I wouldn't be returning. He gave me a refund but i had to drive to the other location to get it - not exactly convenient. By far this was the worst haircut I have ever had. So much thickness was cut out of my hair that I'll probably have to cut the bottom eight inches to make it look even and normal again. Would not recommend this salon. read more

I have lived in Chicago for some years now and have frequented many hair salons. I always liked what they did with my hair but I never left the establishments blown away. A friend recommended I go to Trisha at Salon Buzz. Like a lot of people, I have had the same hair style for a long time and I was afraid to change it. When I met with Trisha, she asked me what I wanted to do and I said a trim would be OK. She asked me how long I had had this style and I said about 5 or six years. She asked me if I wanted to try something else, just for a bit of a change. Honestly, I panicked. People tend to be creatures of habit and what that translates with hair is that you end up stuck in a rut. She said she had an idea, given the texture and thickness of my hair and the shape of my face and asked me if I would I be willing to let her give me a different style. I started shaking and a part of me wanted to say no, absolutely not. I was petrified as I had let someone have their way with my hair before and it was a disaster. It took about seven months to grow back out. Luckily it was winter and I could wear a hat most of the time. Trisha could see my distress, the terror on my face and said, no it's OK, let's give you a trim. There was something about the calmness and confidence that she exuded when she said that that I stopped her and said, you know what, let's just do it. I pretty much closed my eyes the entire time but when she was finished I opened my eyes and sort of screamed, It looked fantastic! I looked great and had tears in my eyes I was so happy. My friends love my new hair style and one even welcomed me into the 21st century. She is so talented and seems to have an instinct that is so right on. Go to her now!!!! read more

Tuesday night I went to Buzz and had my hair cut by Melanie. She cut my hair in such a precise manner. It was the best cut I have every had. The cut really worked with my bone structure. Many people have asked me since the cut if I had lost weight and folks who never noticed changes on me said I looked good. I really believe cutting hair is like art and Melanie is an artist. I went in the salon feeling drained and exhausted and left feeling renewed. A little bit crazy but that's how different I felt and looked leaving the salon. When I washed my hair the cut still looked great and styling was simple. I am a lady who is constantly on the run and time is a constant challenge for me. Melanie also helped my chose hair products that were just what I needed for my type of hair none of that over kill unnecessary stuff I did not need for my type of hair. If you want a perfect cut and its time to do something special for you she is the stylist. It is worth your time and you will so pleased. Great job Melanie! read more
