Unfortunately, he's really hard to get into and is very popular nationally and travels a lot. If you want a special hair makeover, new look, he's the one for you. On a recommendation from a friend, I went to get my first haircut in Chicago since moving from San Francisco. For the past few years, I have been getting Deva cuts for my curly hair, which I adore. In these cuts, the stylist cuts your hair dry (in its natural form), then shampoos, styles, and diffuses, then cuts again for finishing touches. Overall, an amazing way to craft each curl. Therefore, when Aracely told me that she was going to shampoo, then cut wet, then blow dry straight and cut for some finishing touches, I got pretty apprehensive. How can you shape my curls if you can't see them? However, she definitely knows what she is doing, and the shape of my (albeit currently straight) hair looks great. She took off some volume from the top, which is what always weighs my curls down and requires a trip to the hairdresser. The blowdry was great and I am only sad that I didn't have an occasion to "wear" it out tonight. That said, I have yet to rewash and restyle my hair into its natural form, but I imagine it will look great. Overall, the salon is beautiful and you are treated well. The receptionist/stylist was very helpful with B&B products and everyone was quite friendly. 3 stars for a quality haircut and blowdry, but I can't give more only because I am baffled that I can't find any place that will cut curly hair in the "Deva" style (I don't even care if the stylist is technically "Deva" certified- I just want the effort that goes into that type of haircut). read more

My friend's mother recommended that I see her stylist at Salon Buzz after my last haircut at another salon left me in tears. I've got curly hair and I'm pretty much terrified of putting my hair in random hands. Walking into the salon for the first time, I felt like a soldier preparing to storm Omaha beach but probably more self-absorbed. My first cut with Angel was a revelation. He did a really nice job with my hair. My first cut from him was probably the best cut he ever gave me. It grew out really pretty and the cut was balanced (none of that weird sticky-outty poof stuff that can happen with curly hair). I've since stopped going to Salon Buzz after my last cut with Angel was enh. I mostly left because of the price hike to $85. So, overall the salon is nice and very pleasant but the price is really ridiculous in my opinion. read more

This place is always busy. Andreas (the owner) gives me the very best cuts I have every had. He is expensive, but I don't have to have my hair cut for 3 or sometimes four months because the cuts get better with time. I don't do color there dure to a couple of bad experiences, but that's ok. I literally get my hair cut once a year. Being a newb patron, I'd inadvertently gone to the Gold Coast location even though Paul is at the Superior location (conveniently is located right off the Brown Line Chicago stop). Gold Coast was kind enough to phone Paul and let him know I was hopping in a shared car service and would be there in a jiffy. First of all, talk about punctuality- Paul was there at the check in counter to greet me and started on me right away. I was pleasantly surprised a hair salon was right on schedule! Although I'd trickled in late, I did not feel like my service with him or my shampoo attendant was rushed. He listened to what I wanted done to my lucious, long locks (see profile pic) and walked me through what he had in mind as well. He even gave me a sample of one of the products he'd used in my hair, made me truly feel like he is vested in my locks and wants to enable me to recreate his work at home. I obviously scheduled my 13 week appointment right then and there. Paul is now going to be my regular (quarterly) stylist, no more waiting a year because my head just cannot handle all the extra weight. Having had a mishap with "Sun-In" at 12 years old, I have been coloring my hair ever since...and Sherrie is the 1st person to get it right EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have been getting my color done by Sherrie for 3+ years and Ariel (aka Sarah) has been my stylist. I will not have anyone else cut and/or style my hair...PERIOD. Ariel is funky and fun and keeps my hair up-to-date without going overboard. The only downside is their consistent price-hikes. I was leery about my first appointment at this salon, not because I didn't already know my hairstylist was awesome (he was well recommended by my friend) but because I feared circling the salon, like a hungry shark, looking for a parking space. However, every time I've been there I've scored parking ~almost~ right out front. With my ParkChicago app, I'm in the door moments after exiting my car. Paul is an excellent stylist. Iam exceptionally picky about my hair, being a light blonde and having been fortunate enough to have frequented some of the top salons in NYC and LA - finally finally after YEARS of serching - I hav found my COMPLETE "Hair Home" at Salon Buzz RN. Originally it startted with a cut from Duc - read his reviews on here - he is everything they say - that man can make some sexy hair! I asked him to recommend a really good "blonder" in ALL of Chicago, not just Salon Buzz. After years of tiger stripes, orange roots and various other disasters, not to mention just never finding someone who could make a light California blonde look natural (which is the goal of all color, PS) he recommended Sherri. At Salon Buzz. Skeptical, I booked. I saw her - she looked about 25 - got more skeptical... how could this young woman be THAT good at color??? I braced myself. She was good. Great as a matter of fact - her philosophy is all about color placement not color usage....and it works. She listens to what you want, takes your skintone into consideration (FINALLY - someone who can do that!!) and can deliver! It is the first time in a LOOOOONNNGGG time I have walked out af a salon loving my color - not saying "well, the roots will grow out a bit, or the color will oxidize and settle down in a few days" or the worst: "well, now I have to find someone to FIX this..." Blonde girls - go to her. Really. Trust me. I'm hardball with hair (ask her about her new client from late the other night) and I am HAPPY and going back! Relief!! Plus, the salon is efficient - every time I've been here they are consistent - they check you in and someone is right there to whoosh you away for prep. The shampoo bowl girls actually DO care if the temperature is OK, that you are comfortable, and don"t "scrub" your head like a wet dog when you are done (Hello? Is that not all even us layfolk are taught NOT to do to fragile wet hair???) Products are recommended if you want - no heavy handed selling here - you don't need it or if it won't work on your hair - you won't get it. Love that. Salon is tidy and hip and blow dry area at least offers you products and a blow dryer (have been other places where this is NOT the case) Just go gals - plus - it the first time you 'll actually be comforatble under a dryer! For the past couple of years, I have tried several different salons (because my stylist moved to NYC) and had a couple of horrific experiences (don't mention the name of your former stylist when in the chair of someone with dye/scissors in their hands, unless you know that your old stylist called them back after a random hook-up) and then some that were "ok" - I didn't look like I'd been attacked with a weed-wacker, but I was also nonplussed about the experiences. I had taken to making appointments with my "old' stylist when I would go to NYC to visit my sister and friends, or with the woman who did my hair when I lived in Boston. However, with the current economy, I can't be jetting off to the east coast just to get my hair did (and yes, I am being sarcastic - the hair was always just an added stop during an already planned trip - not the actual reason for any trip). So, I decided to give Yelp a try and see what people were saying about salons and stylists near my office and was exceedingly pleased with the outcome. I called Salon Buzz last week and spoke to a very friendly receptionist about setting up an appointment. I described my hair type, my over all style, and the type of stylist that I seem to "click" with. She suggested that I see Ashley - and a lunch time appointment was made for Wednesday of this week. I arrived at the salon about 5 minutes before my appointment and was greeted warmly by the front desk staff and offered a beverage of my choice whilst waiting for Ashley. On time - Ashley came out to get me at 1:00pm on the dot . She's very friendly and has a classic, yet funky style, and great make-up: I knew that we would get along well. Upon sitting in her chair - my hair was a little more than brushing my sholders, and my bangs had gotten pretty long (almost in my eyes). I shared some photos of looks I was considering - and she was definitely feeling the vibe I was going for. We decided to go slightly shorter in the back, sweeping down at an angle to keep some length in the front and to trim the bangs - but keep them straight across (as had become my current fashion). She razor-cut my hair, cut my bangs when the hair was dry - and introduced me to some great products. I loved how it looked and felt! She also offered to do bang trims in between visits (so that I didn't have to do it myself with tape). She also suggested one of the colorists (I asked) called Lindsey who specializes in reds (yay!) so I will be visiting them both when I return from vacation at the end of the month. But - as we all know - the true mark of a great cut: How does it look after you do it yourself for the first time? Ashley didn't disappoint! I was able to make it look pretty close to how it looked when I went back to work after I left her chair. I will definitely be going back and now will just see my NYC and Boston stylists for drinks - rather than cuts and colors. read more

I have been to Salon Buzz many times in the past, I have moved to the suburbs now and unfortunately have not been able to find a hair salon half as good. Loren is amazing when it comes to coloring. The chairs are comfortable and when having hair washed the chairs will even massage. There is a beautiful chandelier to watch twinkle as they rinse your hair. I have never had a bad experience here and now after a few mishaps with local hairdressers will make the one hour trek to visit Loren. I can't recommend highly enough. read more

I came here a few weeks ago-- I'd dyed my hair blonde for a show, and the theatre sent me here to dye it back to my original color, a warm, darker brown. I'm always a little suspicious of these spa-salons in these upscale neighborhoods. I always feel like the poor chick in these places, and people seem to smell it and send me on my merry way, knowing I'll probably never be back. It's like going to a high-end shopping mall wearing Land's End. At any rate, from the second I was greeted, I knew this place wasn't like that. The hostess greeted me cheerfully, offered me a seat, and got me some tea, explaining my colorist, Kimberlee, would be with me in a moment. She was, in no time at all, and I. Loved. Her. She was perhaps the most approachable, friendly, down-to-earth person I've ever been styled by, but still had the experience and polished look you come to expect from stylists in these parts. After she'd put the color in my hair and she had to take another client I was (gasp!) introduced to the people who would be shampooing me (Andi and Scott) and then Kimberlee kept coming over to check on the color as they were rinsing. She was so great about explaining what to expect from hair-dyed-blonde-dyed-brown, cautioning me that the warmth will probably be the first to go, but that instead of having to pay to re-dye the whole thing, I could just come in in a few weeks to get a rinse, which only cost $30. A colorist in river north helping me save money??? WOWEE! I'm in love! Andi, by the way, did what was perhaps the baddest-ass blowout job I've ever had-- it looked fabulous for, dare I admit it, the entire week I wore it because goshdarnit, it just looked too great to wash. Hair cuts here run the standard $60, but you bet your buhunkus I'll be coming back for my rinse! read more

I have long fine hair that has been highlighted for over 14 years and I was concerned after getting a recent "orange blonde" dye job (a blonde's nightmare) out of my tresses was mission impossible...but Sherri confidently went in blazing with low light & "other stuff" to fix my base. After moving to the city, I've tried a few different salons, but I finally found "my salon" at Salon Buzz. I have family who referred me to RICK for color - and he is absolutely great. I couldn't be happier with my highlights. The first time I went, I had ARASELLI cut my hair. She did a good job, but unfortunately she wasn't available the next time I went so I tried GABBY. Gabby was amazing. She is super friendly and works really well with long, thick hair. I went in on Saturday to see Lexi for a haircut and really got the best haircut of my life. She was very nice and professional and really listened to what I wanted. She got rid of all my dead ends (too much blonding....) and gave me lovely, fresh and modern looking layers on my long hair. I highly recommend her. She always does an amazing job and gives me great input while still keeping with what I ask for. I have been to a number of stylists over the years and they have all been kind, skilled, and the cuts grow-out nicely. It's hard to write this review as I have been going here for many years and even recommended this salon to friends. This past time I went was my last time ever. What is going on with this place ? I showed up early for my appointment only to wait 30 minutes for my stylist to arrive. I was told she running late and will be here ASAP. They tried to used traffic as an excuse and I found that humorous. Did she just move into the city? I decided to not let my annoyance and frustration take the best of me and stayed. If I didn't desperately need a haircut I would have left in a heartbeat. They discounted my haircut but it doesn't change my mind about coming back. 30 mins is unacceptable. I went to Ashley after reading some good reviews about her. I must say this is the worst hair cut I have ever had. The layers are uneven, the hair on the left and right side of my face are not equal length and the bang that she gave me falls flat on my face until I put a lot of product to tame it down. I have had bangs before and they are tame and a good stylist can cut it so that it has a shape not a flat lump of hair lying on the face. My hair is not frizzy and usually quite manageable, but boy! how bad layers can get them un-manageable, I have just found out. The layers are just jetting out like a porcupine's needles. Never ever going back to this Salon. read more
