I have had some reservations over writing this review because of retaliation concerns which include billing issues in the past. I was charged for services after my insurance had already paid. And reimbursement was near impossible. First I was told the person who writes those checks was on vacation for a week. When I came back a week later the person was on lunch. When I came back after what would have been an extended lunch the person was in a meeting now. I said I would wait and suddenly they were extremely mad at me. When I went back to the desk to pick up the check I was told that if I took the check I wouldn't be getting my last cavity filled. I said I was fine with that. Something definitely not right is going on there. It all began when I was told I had 6 cavities (prior to the date I had only 1 cavity ever) and 1 required a root canal. Each visit i asked for the x-rays either by disc or flash they said they would email and confirmed my email each time, but would not send it at that moment so I could confirm on my cell. In the end they never complied with getting me the x-rays. And after the 6th cavity they asked about scheduling for one more cavity. I said we did all 6 already and now somehow there was 7th? When I spoke to my insurance they asked me why did they perform the root canal? That wasn't protocol according to my insurance. And the tapped nerve during the root canal with a snickered "that almost never happens" definitely made me uneasy. Anyway I didn't have the "7 cavity" done and went elsewhere to get a second opinion just to find out there was no 7th cavity. Having me left with the nightmares that I may not have had any in the first place. read more

Dr. Salin is a fantastic dentist as he is so knowledgeable,gentle and informative. His office staff is great as well and on top of it. I had a root canal and crown as well as a tooth pulled that broke while I was eating a burger. It's healing well and not having any pain. Been coming here since i was a young kid and have had alot of work done and cleanings. I absolutely love this place Dimitri is by far the best dentist. He cares about his patients and their problems and spends the time to listen. He has always been awesome with me. I went to Dr. Salin a few years ago for some dental work. Needed a crown and he sold me some fancy bionic crown that would last the rest of my life. It cost me a lot out of pocket. That crown has crumbled to nothing and I have to have it replaced. Guess I helped pay for their fancy office. UPDATE: This business saw my review and asked me to call their office about the problem. I was told that, since my crumbling crown was 11 years old, it's not covered under any warranty and that MOST crowns don't last that long. I have a mouth FULL of crowns, some as old as 30 years (done by a different Dentist) and are still in great shape. So, I wasted my hard-earned money on this crown that was billed by Dr. Salin as super-long-lasting durable and better than porcelain. read more

Got sent a letter basically saying I wasn't allowed to come back to this dentist. The only reason I can think of is because I refused constant x-rays (not all) so I guess they weren't making enough money off me. This was a few years back. I was recently let go from this practice and am unsure as to why. The only reason I can think is because of my previous review. I'm not sure why I was considered difficult, but when I was last there, they sure made it seem like I was nothing short of a complainer. Add in that they sent me lots of documents by mail in reply to a three star review I previously posted. I cannot explain why they feel three stars is a bad review. They told me I needed two fillings, I asked for a preauthorization from my insurance company for the work and never received a call back to schedule the appointments for that work. I forwarded the explanation of benefits to them via email almost two weeks ago and in today's mail found my breakup letter from them. At this point in time, I would not recommend their practice. read more

Having not been to the dentist in close to 10 years I was in dire need of treatment for several problems I was having with my teeth. Beginning in December of last year the Drs. Salin (father and son) have restored my quality of life by the work performed on my teeth. In one case Dr. Salin the elder designed a custom post that allowed me to keep my tooth. Their staff is fantastic and do not get me started on the teeth cleaning. I have always hated to get my teeth cleaned but no longer. Fast, friendly and no discomfort. That goes for the dental work as well. As far as I am concerned you can do no better than Salin Dentistry. read more

I can't believe I'm about to write this review. Wow. Where to begin? My mother began going to Dr. Israel Salin back in the mid-90s, and our entire family started going to see Dr. Salin soon after. I always liked Dr. Israel Salin. It's important to note that terrible teeth run on both sides of the family; however, I'm pretty sure my dad's teeth are wayyyyy worse than my mom's. Back while I was in high school I had to have my FIRST root canal. I was scared, and it was even scarier because while I was in the chair, there was an earthquake! By this point Salin Dentistry had moved from downtown Bakersfield to its current location. I remember sitting in the chair and watching the blinds move and all of the equipment sway back and forth. The next thing I knew, my mom came and got me, and the entire office evacuated the building--mid root canal. Still, Dr. Israel Salin was calm and ended up getting the job done. That tooth is still fine to this day. As much as I flossed and brushed, I ended up needing several (YES, SEVERAL) more root canals! All of these teeth were worked on by Dr. Israel Salin. By the time I entered my second year of college, I was already on a PAYMENT plan for all of my dental work. UGH. That's one good thing about Salin Dentistry. They will find out some kind of way to make sure you pay them back (ha!). So, where am I going with all of this? Dr. Dimitri Salin joined the practice. My mom would always complain that when he touched her teeth, he always seemed to offer more expensive remedies than the elder Salin, and then her teeth were always hurting months afterward. I got my first experience with Dr. D. while I was in college. He recommended a dental implant. I straight up asked to see Dr. Israel Salin STAT, and he sighed and said, "Oh, Chandra. Well, I can try and save it. I can't promise you anything." He saved the tooth. No implant needed. Tooth still fine. Wellllllll, a couple of years later I had major tooth pain, and I ended up seeing Dr. D. Of course he recommended an implant. At this point I was engaged to be married, and he promised me I'd have my implant before my September 2012 nuptials. The whole process seemed okay. My tooth was yanked. I was a snaggle. I paid up every month. By then I had moved to the Bay Area. A month before my wedding a tooth Dr. D. had worked on previously had the crown fall off. I had no choice but to see a dentist in the Bay Area, and I will never forget his face when he looked in my mouth. He said, "Who is your regular dentist?" When I said, "I'm actually from Delano, but my dentist is from Bakersfield." He looked at me and said, "Yeahhh. That makes sense." He ended up fixing the tooth Dr. D messed up, and while he looked in my mouth at my work in progress implant he told me, "By the way, I hate to say it, but I can guarantee you that the implant that doctor started will not last. The post is an odd one, and I'm not sure why he didn't use a screw on post. It's also oddly placed. I hate to tell you this, but mark my words. You'll be getting that implant done within three years." I freaked out. I basically had a ticking time bomb in my mouth. Yes, I ended up being a snaggle tooth for my wedding. Thank GOD the tooth was near the back. I didn't get the implant until AFTER the wedding, and I had to commute from the Bay to Bakersfield each time. (Side bar: You KNOW a dentist is making money when they are closed on Friday AND Saturday and close up shop early on Thursday. I had to take multiple DAYS off work to make the trip to Bakersfield to get work done on this stupid tooth. You won't get any sympathy from Dr. D. about commuting because he commutes from Antelope Valley.) FAST FORWARD THREE YEARS LATER!!!!!!!! JUST LIKE THE DENTIST IN SAN JOSE PREDICTED, MY DENTAL IMPLANT'S CROWN FELL OFF OF THE POST IN AUGUST OF 2015!!!!!!!!! I went to multiple dentists in the Bay Area and they all shook their heads and said they could not believe that a doctor secured the implant the way he did. SO YES. I PAID OVER THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A SHODDY IMPLANT INSERTED BY DOCTOR DIMTRI SALIN ONLY TO BE LAUGHED AT BY MULTIPLE DENTISTS IN AND AROUND THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA. Thankfully, I ended up finding an absolute gem here in Redwood City. He corrected Dr. Dimitri Salin's mistake, and now I have an amazing implant that doesn't give me pain and doesn't get ANY food lodged in it every time I take a bite of my meal. It pains me to leave anything less than four stars for Salin Dentistry because Dr. Israel Salin is a true gem. Valerie, Sandra, and several other ladies that have been there for years are always prompt, courteous, and helpful. However, after going to a tried and true 21st century dentist, I'm just happy to report that I no longer have to worry about my Bakersfield teef. read more

Had an appointment for 12 and after 3 people who came after me were taken back I asked how much longer only to be told that it's another 30 minutes after already waiting for 45 mins. This has been the best Dentist I have seen in Bakersfield, CA. Courteous staff and Dentist, also have taken my granddaughters who live with me and they received very good care. One needed 2 fillings and all was done gently. My crown work was very good and was reasonably charged where as at a past dental office I was always charged way more even though I have dental insurance that covers part of it. Rarely have to wait too long. The father is professional, friendly, but direct and to the point, and the son is patient, friendly and puts a big wuss like me at ease. I used to be petrified of any dental work whatsoever, and I've had rotten experiences elsewhere, including one surgeon who accidentally left one of my wisdom teeth in when they were all supposed to be removed. My visit today was great although I got bad news from my dentist that I'm gonna need more dental work. He explained to me my options and of course, I chose the one that my insurance will cover. My dental hygienist is very nice. She always tells me what she's doing and not to hesitate to let her know if she's hurting me. The front staff are nice and attentive. Salin Dentistry have been my dentist for quite a few years now and today, I see happy employees! Did they get all a raise?The billing department was very helpful and honest about what's covered and what's not. My grandson is 4 and had his first dental visit. Just so everyone knows we bought books on dental visits and prepared him. The entire staff was very caring and helpful, he did not cry or budge for his X-rays or cleaning, now he has a cavity and it was filled, again he did not cry or move. The staff explained every step to him, and he did not cry or move. He left saying I love the dentist, and we love the office of Dr. Salin's office. I went in to Salin because of good reviews... first impression: sure their office is fancy and you're going to pay for that. I went in there with an infected tooth, I have dental anxiety after several bad dental experiences and I expressed this. I got xrays and a consultation done.m, but when I made the appointment I specifically said "I think my tooth is infected, make sure you block off enough time that if he agrees we can pull it right then" she said "ok." For the most part I liked the dentist - he was friendly and understanding of my fear, but the problem I had was with the staff working the payment area. The woman working there was quite rude. She couldn't figure out my insurance and was getting snippy with me like I had something to do with it. Dr. Salin decided the problem teeth were infected and needed pulled ASAP. They were very uncomfortable to me. After fighting with the insurance I said I would just pay cash for the extractions. She didn't know what to even charge me. She said "do you want implants?" I said "what will that cost?" She said "I don't know" looking through the books she comes up with "maybe around $7000" I said "I can't afford that so let's just pull them and leave it". At this point she gets really annoyed. I say "can we go ahead with that now?" Her reply was "I'm going to have to pre-authorize everything through your insurance." I replied "I don't mind just paying cash for this." Then she said "well, it's going to be 5 o'clock soon so..." I say "ok well I'd like to get these out soon, they're infected and very uncomfortable - if we do pre-authorization thru insurance it's going to take 1-2 weeks" she says "well you've waited this long what's a couple more weeks?" That's easy for someone to say that doesn't have an infected tooth hurting them who has been saving money for months to go to a "good" dentist and get it fixed correctly. So, annoyed I say "ok, what do I owe for today's consultation - I'll just pay for that" she says "nothing" I said "you're sure? "Yep." So I walked out - not very happy - but I wasn't going to leave a bad review. I went to another dentist and they got them out the next day and I'm happy with the service they provided. The straw that broke the camels back? Today I get a bill for over $200 for the consultation and xrays. I am not happy. If there was to be a fee then I should have been notified at the time of service. It's common practice for it to be free consultation in dentistry and to charge a patient who asked if they owed anything and who was obviously not pleased with your service? BS. My husband uses this dentist, and he will no longer be going there and obviously I won't be returning. read more
