I am so happy with the results I received from Dr. Safaei in just 3 short months. I was feeling discouraged after visiting a couple of orthodontist around the Bakersfield area until I found SDDS. The first thing that made me commit was he asked me what I wanted. How I wanted my smile to look. What was my goal in getting ortho work. None of the others asked me that, they Just took x rays and told me what I needed. I explained that I had braces and broke my retainers a year ago and I just wanted my top teeth to be straight so I can feel confident with my smile. Dr. Safaei and his staff are the best in town. From the moment you walk into their office, you are greeted by Cassandra, who is very friendly and easy to talk to. Joe and Dr. Safaei are funny and friendly during each visit, while still being professional. They play relevant music as well which helps make the experience more enjoyable. And on top of all that, they are all extremely accommodating! There have been many times where I have shown up early, and if they are available, they see me right away instead of making me wait for my appointment time which I greatly appreciate. This review is way long overdue! Let me start by saying they are absolutely amazing!! All of the staff members are extremely helpful they go above & beyond to make sure your comfortable & they actually care for you as a patient. I originally found them while searching yelp for a good dentist I saw some of the amazing transformations they had done to smiles. I remember my first appointment I was extremely nervous especially not having great dental experiences in the past & they totally put my mind at ease I felt so comfortable & like they were there to truly help me. Just my visit before last I left in tears not bad ones but extremely overwhelming happy tears as cliche as it may sound they are truly changing my life. I had gotten to the point where I was extremely depressed I didn't know where to start & I needed so much work I just felt like I would never be back to smiling & being happy the way I used to. At my first appointment I was extremely embarrassed because of all the work I needed and not ONE time have they made me feel bad about any of it they have made me feel so comfortable. Dr sat me down & asked what my plan was & I said I want to get all the work done & get my smile back he said let's make a plan & start making it happen & that's what we have been doing. Cassandra at the front desk is extremely helpful she will explain everything to you & answer any questions you may have openly she is very attentive to schedule needs & is super quick with scheduling appointments & taking care of the billing. The dr assistant i can't remember her first name but she is the best I have ever had! BEWARE! I have "tried" to have this dentist work on me 3 different times. Each time he has either referred me out or refused to do the treatment recommended by a specialist. The first visit was to see if I could get a filling done and then crown a tooth in the front of my smile. He said he was not confident enough in his work to place a crown in the smile line and said to go see a specialist. I thought "well I respect that he isn't 100% confident he can make it look good". I also had him look at a tooth that had been aching and wondered if it was the tooth or a swollen lymph node causing the pain. He determined the tooth was fine (an old root canal). Next visit was for an abscess on the above mentioned tooth. He determined it needed a "retreat" and referred me out again. I went to the specialist who said he would not be removing the crown as they are permanent that he would drill through it and place a temporary filling and to go back to my dentist for a permanent filling. Fast forward to my upcoming appt in a few days. I called to see if they had everything they needed, they didn't have the treatment report from the specialist. I asked for a call back when they did. I was just contacted and told the dentist said I need to replace my crown and would not replace the temporary filling as the specialist HE SENT ME TO, recommended. I should have cancelled when his office girl kept giving me the run around when I told her my daughter needed a tooth extracted due to a big cavity. She said "we'll see what doctor says". I kept asking well can you book enough time for him to pull it so I don't have to keep pulling her out of school? "Oh no we can't do that". She's a kid with a big cavity and the tooth needs to come out. We can all SEE from the xray there is a permanent tooth ready to come in anytime, yet you are giving me the run around. RUN, do not walk away from this place. Absolutely LIVID I have to find another dentist when my kiddo has an active toothache and I have a temporary filling. read more

This office is very nice. There are cute books to read in the front (Keep calm and carry on, Screw calm and get angry), and the new patient paperwork was conveniently highlighted for me. I was seen quickly, and the doctor explained everything very well. I haven't had any work done yet, but Dr Safaei was entertaining (I liked his robot impression). Dr Safaei is really kind and patient. I had an appt at 12PM today and they let me know I could go in at 11:30AM. I got my x-rays done but the only downfall was that Dr Safaei told me that I wasn't able to get 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth extracted because of he doesn't put patients under. The reason for my 5-Star reviews is because he was completely honest and didn't try to take the business away from someone who could just do all the work and take less time. I really appreciated that. He answered all my questions and was very thorough with my teeth cleaning. Everything in total came out to 45 minutes of my day and nice clean fresh teeth! He explained everything very well, and did not push me to do anything I didn't feel comfortable with. This guy is a narcissist. Wants everyone to love him and if you don't, be gone with you. He is very likable as narcissists are, but he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Listen to the reviews about him wanting your money. When I first met him he constantly said things like "I'm cool right? I play cool music.....I'm different." I have never seen the same staff members in the 3 years I have known him. The hygienists suck - I could do a better job. ONE time he actually did the cleaning and that was great - it restored my faith in him. I had 2 prior dentists, one I could not go to anymore because my insurance didn't accept him. He said I had one small cavity we will watch. My next dentist, who also noticed the small cavity and lets watch it, is awesome but no personality and his hygienists are extremely rough. He's a definite pro but personality and gentleness was lacking, which is why Dr. Navid Safaei seemed so appealing. I always do my research and he seemed to have a good background at a respectable university known for good dentistry (so did my other one). So this dentist said also that I had one tiny cavity that we will continue to watch. Over the summer he told me we are still watching this small cavity. By winter out of nowhere suddenly there is cavity #2 and I gotta take care of this right away, both of them. I was confused and asked how did this one appear out of nowhere in just a few months? His face said it all. He was angry. He didn't even want to do the cleaning that is included with my insurance plan. In fact, his staff is SO YOUNG and INCOMPETENT they do a horrible job at checking your insurance plan and what is covered and what is best for the patient. I have never ever had issues with mature staff and maximizing my insurance allotment. In the past, I got 1 set of x-rays and 2 exams/cleanings per year. His staff was greedy enough to maximize my insurance so any chance of me getting any work done, there is no money left to pay for it. He made it sound like he did me a favor and didn't charge me for some x-ray my insurance didn't cover but they should've researched that prior to doing anything. It is the responsibility of the staff to follow the rules of my insurance. Don't make the patient feel responsible for something they should've looked into. Anyway, here's the kicker. Because I took charge of my own health and asked legit questions as to how one cavity suddenly shows up and about the insurance, all I got was defensiveness, hyper-sensitivity and blowing things out of proportion responses. It was a simple question. In fact, I had sensitivity on my right side and he said the cavity was on the left. I just said that was "strange." I didn't indicate anything else. I didn't assume he was untrustworthy at all - HE assumed that is where I was going. But he took offense (because that's what guilt does to people) and suddenly I get a letter in the mail saying all the BS about trust and I am no longer allowed to be a patient (HA!!! I was never ever going to come back! ) 'cause HE assumed I didn't trust him. All I did was ask questions I genuinely needed honest answers to. Needless to say I went back to my awesome dentist and he said I DO NOT have a second cavity. Oh and narcissists do a thing called "DISCARD" when you question their integrity, then they escape. I visited this dental office while briefly living in Bakersfield, simply for a check up. I will say that everyone at the office was very kind. However, I am convinced they were trying to fool me and make thousands off of me. After being examined I was told that I needed multiple crowns, 3 or 4 if I recall correctly. That sounded absurd to me so not only did I get a 2nd opinion, but also a 3rd opinion, and neither of the other 2 dentists said I needed any crowns, but only a few fillings. If youre suggested extreme/expensive procedures I suggest you always get a second opinion. read more

I wish I could give a zero! I called to make an appt for just a cleaning. I am newly from San Diego and only need a cleaning at this time. The response to my request was that they have a special of $49 for an exam and xrays. I said I don't need that as I had been to my dentist in SD about 1 year ago and only want the cleaning. She said we won't do just a cleaning. Thus, I felt like they wanted to sucker me in to get xrays and exam to come up with b.s. items on my teeth. Plus I would have to pay for the $49 plus cleaning. Currently being unemployed I just wanted the cleaning. A true dentist who cares about a patient's dental health would have provided the services I needed and could afford at this time. The fact that I had to do xrays and exam seems "scammy". I would go elsewhere as this doesn't stand the test of the medical oath to me. read more

WHOO HOO!! to SDDS dental! :) I love to go to the dentist now!! And I can assure you I have never uttered those words anywhere close to an experience at a dentist/dental office. And yes both dentist and dental office are worth mentioning separate and as a whole. Both are sensational. New to the Bakersfield area, within a week here I broke a tooth out at dinner, so finding a dentist moved up in importance of new living needs. I read the reviews on Yelp that led me to call two places, another place which the gal who answered the phone seemed bothered to do so as well as give info for questions, and the second place I called was SDDS. They answered the phone happily in greeting and welcomed questions so they could give as much information to be helpful. I have had a bad run of dental practices, SDDS has wonderfully and surprisingly shattered my sediment stance of the idea. Dr. Safaei is a master of his craft, indeed. He welcomes questions so you fully understand the who's and what's that's involved, has patience to the process for where the client's at, and most importantly he's one heck of a pleasure to meet. Affable and executes the process well, it has seriously altered my view, happily toward going to the dentist. And just to note, besides addressing the crown needed, the first appointment came with an overview of what's going on, so this review is not simply to one encounter, in the past month and a half, because I felt so comfortable with his techniques I have gone ahead and (on multiple visits of course) had my cleaning, all my fillings taken care of, my bottom wisdom teeth out (which have been a neglected concern), including the post op for it. So it's a good learned experience reviewed. And before I forget because it's important to mention, all of the staff in the office makes the trip well rounded awesome. Had an urgent dental problem, filling from my front top two incisors fell off, leaving a huge gap, yelped dentists in bakersfield as i'm not originally from here, saw sdds dental, called them, they took me in within 10 minutes. Went there, did a full mouth xray with multiple shots which i wasn't a fan of, it wasnt the regular dental xrays. Upon examining the xrays, the dentist came out and told me i had a few cavities and that the filling that i was originally there for would cost me $171 since i recently had it done with my dentist so insurance wouldnt cover it. He told me that he wasn't sure why my dentist hadn't caught this (which was a negative in my opinion, never shoot down a colleague). However, all that said, the guy told me that if it was him, he would leave the filling alone and that if i really wanted it done, to just go to my dentist to do it, but that he was more than happy to do it if i wanted to pay....(not many people would tell you to go elsewhere to have a procedure done if they could make that cash). Moral of the story: Cons: Full mouth xray was unnecessary as a regular mouth xray would have been just fine (I think the reimbursement is more on a full mouth) Pros: Told me to not get the filling done which would have made him an easy $171 and told me to go back to my dentist to get things done, something that another dentist could have easily jipped me on Would definitely recommend this dentist, very honest and not out to get you. I'm usually really nervous about going to the dentist because I've had some really bad experiences before. As a result, I'm incredibly picky with my dentists. But, armed with new health insurance and the hope that the reviews on Yelp were correct, I went to SDDS Dental for a checkup today. The whole experience was fantastic. Everyone on the staff, from the receptionist to Dr. Safaei himself, was so friendly and incredibly professional. They were able to do x-rays, a cleaning, and two cavities in an hour and a half (which is great for my complicated work schedule) and the work was flawless. Dr. Safaei never seems rushed and always took time to answer questions or listen to concerns about my teeth. I had some strange issues with my teeth and he never seemed annoyed with my questions or dismissive of my concerns. I can't say enough about how much I liked Dr. Safaei's team as well. They were both very friendly and the receptionist even took the time to schedule an appointment with a specialist for me. It was just one of those little "extras" that made the experience really nice. Suffice it to say, I have definitely found my long term dentist!
