Okay, I really love salads & eat a giant salad almost every night for dinner at home. I wanted a similar meal while I was out & about one night and thought I'd check out Salata while I was in the area. This place was SO disappointing. This place is geared more towards the type of people who just like to say they eat salads but don't actually want to eat a salad-- i.e. those who consider Ranch the sixth major food group. I arrived and there was a terribly long line so I couldn't see the offerings at the salad bar. I hopped in line and once I finally got in sight of the actual offerings, I was disappointed in how mediocre the vegetables looked and considered leaving but decided to stick it out sine I'd already waited. Maybe my standards are too high because I'm comparing this to the likes of Sweetgreen or Chopt (other salad chains), but Salata reminded me more of a Pizza Hut salad bar than a modern, healthy alternative to traditional fast food. To start off, they don't offer arugula--it's 2019-- where's the arugula? The veggie options they had were fine, but I was looking for more adventurous options like sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts and less canned options like beans, corn, or black olives. Next, they are SO STINGY with their topping dispersal. I asked if I could get as many toppings as I wanted and the worker said "yes" but only put literally bits of each topping I asked for into the bowl. I would ask for more & again, he'd toss on one or two more small pieces. I'd like handfuls, or a full scoop. Or heck, even limit me to 5 toppings if that means giving me more of each. Don't say I can get anything & then act like you don't have enough to spare. The disappointment continued with the protein options. Each meat looked like it was either a nitrate-filled deli meat that they cut into cubes, or was already covered in some sort of sauce. If I wanted sauce on my proteins, I'd ask for it, but pre-applying the sauce doesn't allow me any flexibility. The lack of clean protein options was a turnoff for someone seeking out healthy options. Then it came time for the specialty toppings. Croutons, fried wonton strips, and pasta (??) are free to add, but quinoa was an additional $3!!! THREE DOLLARS FOR A TINY SCOOP OF QUINOA?!?! To add to the absurdity, a serving of avocado on your salad was only $1 extra. Literally how is quinoa, a cheap, bulk commodity, three times the price of avocado? And why upcharge the healthiest option while including fried wonton strips or pasta at no additional cost? Furthermore why are we putting pasta on salad?? The dressing options especially irked me. Most were cream-based sauces and a few were vinaigrettes. I ordered the ginger lime vinaigrette & it tasted fine, but when the employee poured the ladle of dressing on my salad, I could tell by the thick consistency that it was definitely made with some gross ingredients. I just looked up the ingredients in their dressings & the vinaigrettes contain canola oil, refined sugar, and sulfites. To top off the unhealthy experience, you're given a choice between a buttery croissant or pita chips to eat with your meal. To say I was disappointed with Salata would be an understatement. This place may have been cool back in 2010, but healthy eating has evolved and this place didn't catch up. Save your money and your time and go to Panera instead. read more

This is my 3rd time at Salata. I think what I like most is the ability to dress my salad up or down depending on my mood. Today I wanted lots of greens, veggies, and some protein to counter all of the rich food over the weekend. I work around the corner from this location and have literally never had to spend more than 5 minutes in line. They are generous with the toppings and have no problem giving more when asked. With the exception of the beans and olives, everything is very fresh. I do find the protein options somewhat limited...3 chicken options, smoked turkey, and crab with a k. So, I usually stick with the pesto chicken. I would come more often if there were more protein options to choose from. read more

Went 2 days ago and was very disappointed with the managers attitude. Went through the line and ordered my food. At the very end after my food had been made, in front of my face the manager says "this is too much for a wrap", and proceeded to (in front of my face) send my food back to the beginning. I was already in a rush so now not only do I have to start back from the beginning but it was SUPER disrespectful for her to say "this is too much food" I didn't make the food I just told them what to put in it. I felt as though not only did she fat shame me, but she wasted my time. Then after having to get my food remade in a smaller portion she proceeded to give my original food made to an employee behind the counter. So I can't eat the food I chose, but someone else can. Had I not been in a rush I would have raised hell because that was super hurtful to me. Why wait until I am about to pay to decide it's too much food. If you have limits on food put that on the original menu. Also any other restaurant when they mess up your food they give you the messed up portion and your own for wasting your time. Oh salata! I used to love thee, but now!?this location is my least favorite salata in Houston period. Staff is meh, somedays they are standoffish, or rude, every so often I may get a half of a smile from maybe one of the salad makers. So lets rewind back to a couple of months ago, there was a worker there before who was utterly rude and argumentative. She had gave my sister and I half of a scoop of meat to the point where I could see the silver inside the spoon. I chose seafood mix and got seafood scraps. At this time I did speak with management (district manager i believe) who was very apologetic, was supposed to send me gift cards (never recieved which i didnt hold my breath for them) since this incident, I've been to this location a couple of times and by far they have not been the best experiences. It was my first time there tonight and idk who was the cashier but all I did was ask for some extra dressing and she said with a little tude " you could have just asked for some over there" and didn't get my dressing! I am absolutely disgusted because I always eat at Salata's when I went to this location the girl was texting on her phone with her gloves on she was waiting for I guess one of her other coworkers to come attend me but she ended up helping me, she put her phone in her back pocket and continues to serve me with her hand not using the utensils/ tongs. I was immediately disgusted but I didn't say anything because I'm not the type but then I went to the next section and someone Else attended me but she went right back to touching her phone which was the gross part there's so much bacteria and this girl is touching food with the same gloves on and touching your personal phone. Fresh! Like the early 90's AND garden delights.Talk about taste the rainbow. Ingredients were vibrant and inviting. Even the kids indulged in veggie wraps! The pricing is up there for a meal that doesn't require any chefery. The cost of one sitting could get the same ingredients for a week at the grocery...But I'd miss out on the pleasant customer service and catchy music station. The restaurant is cold, prob to avoid lettuce wilting but still, (green) thumb down to the chilly. I dig that they always have a treat of the month. This time it's pears. They also have a soup promo as a $1 side per meal. It was a vegan chipotle white bean number. Was flavorful with nice kick. Not quite like grandmother made...but at least a great aunt... I'll start with the positive. The ingredients are always really fresh tasting. I order online and go in to pick my salads up, and the online ordering is really easy. The employees who help me are always nice. Even though the salads are pricey, you get a large portion. Now for the reason I gave it 3 stars tonight. For the first time my salad was made wrong. I asked for double toppings on an item and just got a meh amount. They also put peas on my salad. I can't stand peas, and had to spend 10 mins. picking them out of my salad. It's not a huge deal really...but not something I felt like doing either. I also asked for the dressing to be tossed in, and they put it on the side. They didn't put the cilantro & red beans on there either. Again, not the end of the world, but I want what I want. The artichokes on my boyfriend's salad weren't chopped up at all, and the tough bottom parts were in there. Also, he barely got any banana peppers. They also put the stem part of the banana pepper in there. I'll definitely go back, because they're normally so good. They have the signs but force everyone down there the line like cattle then proceed to get mad at you when you try to social distance the line. I'll come back to this place after Covid is over. Tried out Salata in Katy about a month ago and have gone multiple times since! I've yet to see ingredients looking less then perfectly fresh. Best of all the customer service is top notch. Especially Ivan. Gisele and Rochelle (hoping I got the names right ) are very friendly and funny as well. All around great staff and healthy salad bar with tons of options and high quality protein. If you want a different salad dressing ask Ivan and he'll mix you up a delicious mixture to sample. read more

We inquired about the bread that they usually have and we're told they were out. Too bad, tough luck, no apology, no price adjustment. Overall the food is great. There are two problems I have with the place. One is the service. Extremely slow. They are literally never organized to keep the line flowing at a steady rate. One person is at the front and he moves with one person all the way down the line and then stands around for someone else to help the next customer. It's awful. We've timed the lines from standing next to the door all the way through checkout and it's upwards of 45 minutes every time. This is a simple logistics issue that a diligent manager should be able to handle. Second is the amount of food. The first few times right after it opened the bowls were so full of food that you could easily take half home for another meal. For the price you pay that was great. Suddenly they've become stingy. I mean worse than subway stingy. You get three olives or a few pieces of tomato. If I'm going to stand in line and pay for a bowl of rabbit food, give me a decent serving. It's ridiculous. AND when you ask for more every single server I've had there has given me a nasty look. Great food, horrible slow service and stingy portions. read more

We love Salata and normally eat in. Tonight, I was tired, so we decided to order on line. I was incredibly disappointed in the size of my small salad. I probably got 2/3 of what I get when we eat in. Very disappointed. I was excited for the order online option, but now not so much. Other times, the customer service has lacked. Once, when my husband asked for more of a particular cheese, (he had the regular salad) he was told no, that is all they put on. Really? I'm so tired of coming to this location and getting an attitude for not wanting enough ingredients for my wrap. WHAT? This location is notorious for being stingy already because it's owned by a franchisee and it's not a corporate location. I come to this location because it's convenient and close to my house. When I go in I always get the same thing. A wrap with just Chipotle chicken and cheese ( Willing to spend $11 on something that I can go to Chipotle for) and I don't like them to cut the wrap because I know they don't wipe the knife down as regularly as they should. I would prefer not to have beet juice and ranch all over my wrap after it being cut. I just went in a few minutes ago to get my usual and this old Hispanic woman was pissed because I didn't have shit in my bowl but cheese and meat? Like seriously what? Salata in general is good...lots of choices to make your own salad and enjoyable. Their proteins are a little bit pricey though. The place itself tends to be pretty clean and you're in and out fairly quickly. Also, the staff are pretty efficient. So why a 2-Star? I asked that my salad be put into two to-go containers instead of one and the cashier said that if she did that, she'll have to charge me double!!! Essentially what I was asking for was an extra container and she said (with an attitude) that she'll have to charge me double. That make zero sense both logistically and it definitely makes zero business sense. It was approximately 5:30pm, my husband and I just walked into this location and as we tried to order our salads the offensive odor of Clorox overpowered everything! Behind the counter, and scrubbing away, was an employee apparently trying to remove mold from the baseboard! The woman behind us complained and the server just ignored her! I asked to speak to the manager and they pointed to the cashier... I approached her and asked why they were doing that during opening hours? I told her we would have to drive to their other location but that I intended to call corporate... she informed me that this was a franchise? No wonder! She took my name and number so that the district manager could call me. Then she said the "area director" was in the store if I wanted to speak to him! I waited and met with him... he didn't apologize or offer any excuse as to why they decided to scrub baseboards right where food is being served?
