I prefer souper salads as you can fix your salad how you like. This set up is like chipotle so it you don't catch the person you can get more that you like especially the dressing. Takes too long to tell the person no more of that or I only want a little of that. I would rather go to whole foods and make my own salad and pay by the pound. Price seems reasonable until you get to the meat which is 3 bucks extra. It would be nice to know that at the front of the line instead of when you get to the meat section. But I guess when you have four to five people who have to make your salad its going to cost ya. read more

I usually go to this location for because of the friendly service and great salad. However, today's experience was different. I got a to go order and kindly asked the associate to mix my salad in a bowl for me. It was met with a "no" to when I simply asked again and the associate rolled her eyes at me and slowly took my salad out of the existing to go container to mix it. Usually I'm pretty chill but rolling your eyes at me and acting like I'm an inconvenience while the store is empty wasn't a pleasant experience. I was in the Nassau Bay location recently and went back for more dressing because the large bowl takes a lot of dressing. They were going to charge me $1 for a little tiny plastic cup of dressing. I thought there was no way that could be right but another employee came over and said it's true! To get extra salad dressing is $1!!! You can buy a whole bottle of salad dressing for $3 or $4, so I'm shocked!!! My salad was already $13 so I wasn't going to pay more for salad dressing. OK, here is where I get to dump on Salata in general. Nothing personal about the NASA location, it's just as bad at the Westheimer location. Salata, I want to love you, but why do you make me hate you so much? I once owned a 130-lb black Labrador retriever. He ate a lot of dog food, which I served in a stainless steel hemispherical bowl. He would get his head down into it and nom nom nom it until the kibble was gone, and then he'd let out a stinky fart. (I think dogs blame their farts on humans, but I digress.) Now I have seen people with really big rabbits on the Internet, upwards of 30 lbs. If you could imagine how you would feed a 150 lb rabbit, or maybe a capybara (a rodent that actually grows that large), you'd probably use a giant stainless steel hemispherical vessel filled with lettuce and veggies, and the bugger would nom his leaves, and at the end he would probably fart, too, only less stinky. This is what Salata uses to serve their salads. So now /I'M/ the 200 lb rabbit. I get into the cafeteria line and choose which leaves I want, and if I only get leaves it costs $8 for my feed bowl. True that I get to use a plastic fork to eat it, but it still feels like I'm eating from an animal feeding bowl. I'm just glad they don't serve it in a feed bag for horses. I can get some fancy stuff to mix in, like olives and sunflower seeds and sun-dried tomatoes. Omnivorous human that I am, I'd like to add some chicken or shrimp, but those cost $3 or $4 extra respectively, but I know it's going to suck if I don't have some real protein in there, so I add that in, too. It's either that or plain garbanzo beans for protein, lovely. As I walk my way down the line, I'm offered a piddling piece of bread as a treat. I'm relieved I don't have to do a trick to get my bread prize, but if I want any -really good- bread that's going to cost extra, too, and I'll probably have to balance a ball on my nose to get it. Oh and would I like an overpriced soda with that? HELL, NO! I'll drink the lukewarm water from the fountain, if I need it. The guy at the end of the line tosses the salad with my dressing, so it's one homogeneously awful mess, and then cha-ching, my belt magically tightens one notch tighter. I try fruitlessly to console myself that I'm doing the right thing, reluctantly crunching my rabbit kibble, desperately trying to enjoy it, trying not to fart in front of my cohorts. In short, eating at Salata is an exercise in masochism. It's like one of those religious holidays when you have to walk on hot coals with your bare feet, or flog yourself with a cat-of-nine-tails. I never look forward to it. I'd rather get a McDonald's salad for $4-5 at the drive through, or even cheaper at the grocery store. If you have to go here for lunch because your coworkers have been dying to try this new place, it's your choice whether to suck it up and do your penance, or sneak next door to get that Five Guys burger you smell wafting your way before you enter the temple of regrettable choices. read more

Pros: Quick & clean. Wide variety of toppings. Large salads (but not always!) Cons: This is where it gets tricky. Everything is a la carte, and you choose your toppings as you go down the line. For someone like me, who gets a wide variety of toppings, this isn't a big deal, and I end up with a HUGE salad. But, for someone who is picky or just wants fewer ingredients, they don't give you more of those ingredients to compensate for your lack of other toppings. It's not their fault, because you're essentially just going down an assembly line where they pass the bowl down to each station. So you could end up with a much, much smaller salad, and by the time you get to the end of the line, it's too late! $8 bucks for just veggies **prices just went up on proteins. otherwise, I would've given 4 stars instead of 3. $3 for chicken $4 for shrimp or other seafood $1 for a quarter of an avocado. If you haven't been to this place and you don't know what you're doing or how it works, you could potentially be getting a $15 salad, and that's with no drink! I work around the corner and just bring chicken/fish/shrimp/steak from home, and get a huge veggie salad to go. I can get in and out in just over 5 minutes and it ends up being a solid lunch for $8.00! read more

I used to love this place. But it's really gone down hill. Today I was completely repulsed by it. They used to not be so stingy with their items. Now they put nothing on a salad and charge you extra for everything. Total bs. It's beco.e a total rip off. 7-10 dollars for a salad and they give you four damn slices of carrot. Then today the guy dropped croutons on this nasty table they missed everyone's salad on and picked it up and put it on my salad. That is completely unsanitary. I will not be going back. This location used to be really great but it's just gotten worse and worse over time. Every time I order to go they completely botch my salad. I check my order receipt to make sure I didn't input it incorrectly and sure enough my receipt is correct but my order is not. When you go in to order and ask for extra of anything they give you an over dramatic sigh and throw it in the bowl. I decided to give it one more chance today, ordering delivery through Waitr, and what do ya know they forgot 4 of the ingredients I requested that is printed on my order receipt that they used to make my salad. On several occasions, my coworker and I have ordered salads online and the orders were not correct when I picked them up from the restaurant. Several errors have been made with some of our past orders such as requested items not being in our salads or having items in our salads that we did not order. Today they put the wrong type of lettuce in my coworkers salad and did not put her pita chips in our bag. The fact that this has happened on several occasions is very frustrating. The food is great, but I would enjoy it a lot more if my order was actually correct. read more

I absolutely love this place. As a vegetarian I was so so excited that a Salata was opening on NASA Rd 1! The place is big with lots of seating, it's always clean, the staff is super friendly and helpful, also knowledgable about their food. I asked what salad dressings were low in sodium last week and they could tell me right away. I have been eating here at least once a week since it opened. The ingredients are fresh and there is a huge variety of salad or wrap ingredients, and plenty of yummy meat/protein options for the non-vegetarians out there. The salad dressings are so good! They have really delicious freshly brewed iced teas and lemonades. I highly recommend checking it out. read more

Glad we have a new lunch spot close to JSC! The wait was almost 15 min at noon on a Monday - but this establishment is new so that was expected. Great selection of vegetables and proteins! I really enjoyed the various chicken marinades to choose from rather than the general salad bar offering of plain grilled chicken. My only criticism is they were very heavy on the dressing (two full ladles, which per the website is 1/2 a cup!) so beware and ask for less if desired. I didn't catch them quick enough. The people are friendly and the salad is a good size - but the whole operation cost me $12 (salad with chicken and tea) which personally is a bit much to make this a regular lunch spot, but I do plan on returning at some point. read more

My husband and I went there over the weekend and we're not impressed. We went thinking it was an open salad bar, it's not. You wait in line for two people to make a salad for you..pretty frustrating and took forever because the line was pretty full. The price was unreal, $30 for two salads and two fountain drinks. I was craving some very unhealthy fare and wanted to ease my guilt, so what did I do???? Stop by Salata to counteract the food suicide I was about to commit. I needed a green, naturally grown, and healthy food choice to accompany the not so healthy food I was about to ingest. I strolled right in and was greeted by a super sweet and attentive young lady working the counter. I ordered a small salad and was pretty impressed at the great selection of veggies, proteins, and dressings they had to offer. It was a little like going car shopping, you pay a flat price for the base model, and a little extra for each additional bell and whistle you add (proteins, and more exotic additions like heart of palm, artichokes, and avocados). I was a little indecisive of the seasoning on the chicken I wanted added, so the young lady helping me let me sample the different seasonings until I finally made a decision. Once we added all ingredients, she tossed the salad and packaged it very nicely. I LOVED it once I got around to eating it and promised myself I will be back. Kudos to the team for maintaining a super clean dining room that is pretty large yet inviting, and very clean. read more

I am giving this place a 2 star because of the customer service that I received. I requested tomatoes on my salad and they only put 4 pieces (diced0 so I asked for more than that and was told there would be an extra charge. I go to salata in the inner loop at least once a week for lunch and dinner. This new location is closer to my house, but let me warn you it is not the same excellent experience. The staff gives you three slices of veggies which is crazy for the price you pay and the were not refilling anything so you were just sol if you wanted chicken or a certain veggie. I have begun to hate the Salata restaurants. If you ask for anything they pretend to grab a handful then drop most of it back and finally place the few scraps on the bowl. Good, fresh foods. A salad with meat will cost you $10 , so be prepared. Ask for light dressing or dressing on the side, as they are heavy handed with the ladles. The salads are huge! Definitely enough for splitting, unless you are starving. read more

Used to go here and had no problem with the servings. Do not know if it was the servers or that Salata changed their portions to make them smaller. Even the person next to me was complaining. You asked for more and they pretended to put more as they dropped some back into the container. They will remind you it is not a buffet, for the price, -I mean they charge a dollar for everything extra-I would recommend to try something different.
