We had the gyro fries, lamb gyro, chicken gyro, and lamb salad for lunch. The food was fresh, tasty, and just as we ordered. The gyro fries do not include any veggies, but are a good option for a kids meal. The salad was fresh and beware of the jalapeños. They are not overwhelming but you will get a little kick when you bite one. The location was clean and quiet. The bathrooms were also clean. Been here several times now, and I get the combo platter every time. The quality and taste is consistently tasty. It comes with corn, black olives, lettuce, and cucumbers by default. The white and hot sauce can be given separately, but I like to have it already added on top so that its more mixed in (warning: don't do this if you can't handle spice well). I've found that out of all the gyro places around Houston I've been to, the gyro here is the "juiciest" in consistency which is probably due to the sauce itself rather than the entire entree. It's not bad by any means. Just different from the drier gyro I'm used to. You can ask for the sauces on the side if that's an issue for you. The staff is not very talkative but always polite. Dining in is fine, but I usually get takeout since the restaurant is a little narrow in space. You could definitely catch up with a friend if you wanted to since it's not loud and there's usually a max of 4 other customers dining in. Keep in mind that this place does not have waiters and water is not free. They sell water bottles and sodas for $1.79+tax. Solid place overall. Especially recommended if you're in the area and you need a savory dish in takeout form. read more

Tonight was the first time I tried Gyro King and it was an overall good experience. I love Mediterranean food. We passed by this place quite a few times. The food was plenty, especially if you get the combo plate on rice (chicken and lamb) with extra meat. The meat wasn't dry and it had really good flavor. The service was a bit dry to be honest. The woman that took care of me was nice but her personality seemed a bit dry. There was only a couple of people when I came inside. I tried to place a to-go order here, but the website kept insisting that the expiration date of my credit card was invalid (it was correct), so I had to order in person and wait. The people behind the counter were great, very helpful and professional. The order was placed, and after a short wait, it was handed to me and I headed home. Dining in would have something of a fast food vibe, which wasn't my goal. Really enjoyed the New York style fried fish with rice and salad, though the falafel was just okay. My wife had the lamb salad and was disappointed that the lamb was chopped rather than sliced. Overall pretty good food, though they need to fix their website. The red sauce is spicy. I saw that another reviewer complained about the spicy gyro, but this is New York style, and I love the blend of white and red sauces. No, the white isn't exactly tzajiki sauce, this is not trying to be authentic Greek food, it is what it is and that's a good thing. Good stuff: fast service and fries were perfectly cooked. Bad stuff: The lamb gyro was more like a minced meat (chunks) rather than what I have had in every other gyro shop I've ever experienced. Rude staff. I came in at 9:20pm, but the sign said they were open until 11pm. Still, only one guy behind the counter and everything looked put away. I asked politely if they were open (because no gyro on the spit...looked spic and spam clean) and he said that they were. Made my order quickly, confirmed I wanted it with everything but the sauces on the side, paid, and was about to add the tip when he completed the transaction printed the order number, and literally thrust it at me. Another guy came in, and he took that guys' order. As I said, the service was quick. So around six minutes later, when my order was ready, he hollered out my number (there was only two of us in there), then I had to walk down to where he was at the far end of the restaurant. Couldn't be bothered to bring it to the front counter where I ordered. My food was packed up, bagged, and tied up. There was another order on the counter and I really wasn't sure which was mine so I asked, "is this one mine?" He answered, obviously put out with me, "yeah!" I felt shooed away. The taste was ok. Not what I was expecting, but not bad. The fries were the highlight. I'm glad the sauces were on the side. Both were very strong flavors, not suitable to every palate. The service: I ordered take out and went to pickup on my lunch break. I walked into the restaurant and saw two other people dining, I waited at the registered for a moment until someone came out. She did not seem to be very happy or welcoming. I informed her I had a pickup order and had handed it to me then went into the back. It feels like more of a Togo place than a sit down restaurant with a server. The ambiance: inside was pretty small, around 6-7 tables for couples and 4 tops to sit around. The food: I ordered the chicken and rice, if you were eating this by itself it is a little dry. You have to add the sauces that come with it. I had a red sauce that was pretty spicy and the traditional tzatziki. Once I added the tzatziki sauce it was a better experience eating the food. The food was tasty and I liked how well the rice was cooked and the chicken was not dry but still Juicy. The salad was pretty basic, adding the tzatziki sauce helped it. For a quick lunch meal you can't beat this, I will be back to try the lamb as that is one of my favorite meats. read more

Gyro King has excellent service, and the food they serve is fresh and homemade. The location is a bit difficult to find, it's small and located in a busy strip, so parking can be challenging. It's not ideal for large gatherings, but the quality of their menu makes up for that. Gyro King's chicken kabob plate was the best I've ever had. Though, some items on their menu don't have full descriptions, so you may have to ask what all your order comes with. Gyro King offers vegetarian dishes and their desserts are made, fresh daily. The lamb gyro was more like a veggie sandwich with white sauce instead of tzatziki. We also indulged and ordered some hummus with pita. That was probably the best in our dinner selection. Too bad you only get one pita round per order of hummus. Also, kinda pricey. Two gyros, fries, hummus and two cans of Pepsi was 40.00. I bet subway would make a good 5 dollar foot long gyro. I just received a couple gyros from this vendor. I am from Colorado so I guess I have a different opinion on what a gyro is. This is not a gyro or would be considered a child's gyro with some odd meat that would make a Greek shudder. It's the size of a standard burrito from Taco Bell and the meat DOES NOT taste like gyro meat. A more accurate description would be a gyro taco. Very disappointed in this Texas offering. read more

First of all, the falafel sandwich is one of the best I've ever had. That aside, secondly, the lamb chops were so overcooked, they were like shoe leather. I had to spit much of them out because they were inedible for the most part. BUT they were VERY tasty. I told the girl at the counter I wanted them medium rare, but She doesn't know what that means because I came back in after eating them all and tried to explain what I meant by medium rare. The guy who prepped them went out on a delivery. She did say, the chops all come out at the same time and are cooked the same way. Such a shame. read more

A group of 4 of us went in as this was across from our hotel for the night. Whenever I see "gyro", the place already has my vote. I am SO glad we stopped!! I asked Amber about the Chapli gyro. After the explanation, I decided to get that with a large Gyro fries (lamb) and drink. The other 3 got the Combo gyro with drinks and fries. First off, the service from Amber was TOP NOTCH! You couldn't ask for better! The food... OMG, the food! Delicious! Fresh! The tzatziki sauce (white sauce) was cool and good. Their "Hot Sauce" had a nice bite, but was definitely flavor forward! We all got STUFFED for about $10.00/person (I over-ordered... oops!). We'll definitely be back should we ever pass this way again! Amber, you were FANTASTIC! Get yourself a raise, lady!! read more

I don't leave reviews ever, but I have come here often since opening, and I can honestly say I have been really disappointed with my latest visit here. The food is good enough to fuel up on, but man, the customer service here is the worst. In particular, I didn't get the name of the cashier, but he was so rude to me for absolutely no reason. I was belittled, talked down on, and laughed at by this guy - all because I asked a curious question about my order in which he got incorrect. I mean... dude, I was just wondering if that was my order since it didn't look like what I ordered, that's it... chill out, lol, I was not even making a scene?? He was?? Lol. Side note, they almost forgot another part of my order, and I watched them pack old, browning, soggy lettuce in all the orders. Where's the fresh ingredients?? Yeah... I used to be a loyal customer, but I don't plan on going back. Just too awkward with how mad the cashier got at me. And kinda gross with the ingredients. quiet "fast food" gyro place. There was something gritty in gyro. Don't know if lettuce or cucumber was not washed? The bread with hummus was hard. Pita bread should be soft. My husband noted:"Watch out for the red hot sauce. Try a little on your gyro before committing the whole thing. ". He also noted that the gyro meat is not sliced off the "show piece" gyro meat. We were not served gyro meat. They were cutting up some precooked meat on the grill. It was big piles of cut up chicken and beef or lamb meat. Looks like it came out of a bag or something.
