Some of the best sushi and customer service around!

First off, the service is cold and unwelcoming. No 'hello' when we entered, no 'goodbye' when we left. Waited 15 minutes for a drink refill, and used dishes sat on our table while waitress after waitress walked by looking at them instead of removing them. Second, the food is unskillfully prepared and lifeless. The tempura shrimp appears fine, but the tempura sauce tasted watered-down and was oddly greasy and not sweet at all. The gyudon had no flavor. It seems they use their ingredients with no attempt at seasoning. I've had this several times before in other restaurants, and this was not as good as a frozen microwave version I've found in grocery stores. Teriyaki chicken, while cooked, was suspiciously without color, with a cold, bitter teriyaki sauce poured on top. Again, flavor was off and unpleasant. Most disappointing was the yakitori. This is supposed to be marinated beef on a skewer cooked with high heat. Their version includes unmarinated beef with a chewy, microwaved texture. No signs of high heat used to cook this, and instead of seasoning the meat they again coat it with a bitter, cold sauce. Sushi was underwhelming, heavy on the mayo and light on the freshness. If you enjoy poorly cooked food, have never been to a good Japanese restaurant, and want to be served by unfriendly people then by all means keep them in business. I won't be returning. read more

Absolutely disappointing. The building is very visually displeasing... There is NO energy or character, the service was very impersonal no one speaks English... And employees are spread across the dining area on computers or collected around the sushi bar. The sushi is extremely expensive and distasteful we paid $15 for one roll and it tasted bland and dry. The pot stickers tasted like they were from Costco and microwaved. Seriously a huge waste of money I would have rather ate at jack in the box... I'm gonna go throw up now. read more

Decent place. I enjoyed the Kim Chee soup. I like the reasonableness of their menu and options for lunch. It was just ok. The nigiri was decent but didn't love the Spicy girl roll. The Tuna looked odd like maybe not the freshest. I picked it apart from the roll and it had an odd look to it. It was opaque and not as fresh looking as the nigiri I saw. So disappointed!! Been going to this restaurant for over ten years and am sad to say the quality has slowly declined over the last couple of years. We order the same thing at least once a month because our family used to love the food. We always get our order to go and then do a family movie. Unfortunately, this meal will no longer be part of that tradition. Over the last couple years I've called a few times and complained about things like the sauce didn't taste good, the vegetables weren't cooked or the rice was hard. I let them know because I wanted to keep coming back. They told me they had a new chef and they promised it would get better. Those things I could deal with but not TAINTED RAW FISH!!!! I was appalled tonight with the meal and especially at the site of our sushi (millennium roll) that had hard and dark red snapper, plus a huge grey spot on the tuna. Not to mention the teriyaki chicken was full of grizzle and tasted old, the tempura shrimp tasted mushy like it's been thawed too many times, and the rice was hard and old. I called and spoke to the manager and he said they get fresh fish everyday and they did have another new chef but I needed to bring the food back in for them to see. WOW! Just WOW! I could see if they didn't know us but seriously we've gave them so many chances this is just the last one. I will not put my family's health at risk. I'm not giving this place another cent, friends going there or not. I'll overlook that my last roll would fall apart upon picking it up, which I wouldn't even expect with a sushi guy at Albertsons, much less a legit sushi joint. Two general things to point out to management. If someone hates their job and doesn't want to work there, then get someone who would actually want to work there. Because it's quite obvious, and the bad vibes rub off directly to the customers in the form of poor service. And it's not like these are isolated incidents where it can be chalked up to having a bad day. The service hadn't affected me in my original review, but now it has. It's among the worst in the valley for sushi, or anything in general for that matter. The service at Superb Sushi was bad since I got literally no service, but that was for a one-time thing and haven't returned since. But Sakura has been chronically bad. I'm amazed they get away with it. My friends seem to be getting annoyed with it finally. Also, as the employees aren't Japanese, why put someone on the phones who not only speaks poor English but also has trouble understanding the Japanese-language food items being offered there? Good luck with trying to place a phone order. I'm already annoyed with the near-complete dearth of Japanese involvement with the Japanese restaurants here, primarily because I think we're being denied many a Japanese-style offering due to lack of cultural culinary knowledge from the people working at them. But this is another excuse to add to my reasoning. Having only a very rudimentary understanding of English is forgivable and happens all the time at Asian restaurants. But don't have them working the phones, and in my case have them figure out what the menu items actually say on the menu without it being like pulling teeth. You won't find this kind of discrepancy anywhere else around here save for Japanese restaurants. read more

Was quite surprised to find the place relatively empty during the lunch hour . . .if you're tired of fighting lunch time crowds, this looks like a good option. Two of us shared a huge boat full of a few rolls, shashimi and nigiri, soup, salad and I think it could have fed 3 or 4. We left stuffed and a few pieces remained on the boat. Anyone who knows sushi will not be happy with this place. The fish is what you would expect from a place so far from the coast. I used to work at HP which is just down the road. I got roped into eating at this establishment enough to know that they get fresh fish once per week. If you happen to miss that day then you'll know what I mean. We were visiting family in Eagle and craving sushi so 8 of us went here. The staff acted put out when they had to push a few tables together, then they were the same when we all just asked for water. My son who is 5 was very tired and couldn't sit still and fell off his chair and started crying and they just looked at us like we were s*%)!. THE BEST SUSHI AROUND! Great lunch prices but dinner can get a little high. All staffers are asian and the love boat of sushi is a fabulous deal. All meals come with your choice of asian salad or miso soup, bigger entrees have both. TO DIE FOR!!! Groups larger than three can have there own small room with sunken benches where you remove your shoes for privacy and a really fun asian feel ( six small rooms) Call ahead for small rooms. My boyfriend and I have been here multiple times, the service is always bad and the fish never tastes fresh. I will admit I lived in orange County California so I have been able to eat good sushi. I can tell you this is not good sushi. Nothing ever tastes fresh, and most notably on our last visit 4 nights ago we both got sick. I am still sick 4 days later. I found the service to be fast and efficient. The prices are a little steep but I guess that's to be expected when you're talking about getting fresh fish into the Boise area. We had three of their rolls, and thoroughly enjoyed them, especially the "fiery." Great food, good service, fun to watch the sushi chefs work. This was a nice change of pace. I normally look for the Mexican places around town and totally forgot that I love sushi fortunately for me so do my children. I bought a children's Bento Box for my two youngest and it was actually enough to feed all of us additionally is pretty tasty. I ordered a sushi roll that had tuna salmon cream cheese and some spice to it it was pretty good I tend to like the more extravagant sushi rolls but this was a nice change of pace my daughter is always got a spicy tuna roll and before I could even look at her plate it was already gone so my assumption is it was pretty good. Overall the dining experience was average I wouldn't write this as a great sushi place but it was far from a bad one I look forward to going back and trying their Hibachi Grill read more

This place was good but not the best I've ever had. The sushi was very tasty but I questioned exactly how fresh it was due to the color of the tuna and salmon being not quite as red as it should be. The food was pretty good but I want to comment on the service. I asked the wait person for a suggestion of a roll like another roll I like and her understanding was I was ordering both. I wasn't looking to order two - just one of the kind she was recommending. When I tried to bring it up with her, her face looked blank and I can only assume this is a language issue and that it wasn't intentional to order differently than I wanted (double the food and expense). This was my first time at Sakura Sushi in Meridian for me & my family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our "hibachi" experience. We had reservations so we were seated immediately at one of the hibachi grills. We had the steak & shrimp hibachi dishes as well as the scallops. All of our choices were grilled to perfection. The dinners came with a small bowl of miso soup & a small side salad. I hate filling up on soup/salad before the main course so I only ate a few bites of each. My grilled scallops came with steamed rice & grilled veggies - so good. One of my daughters had the Yakisoba Noodles with chicken and the gyozas and they were also very good. Service was excellent. Excellent experience and favorite so far in the Valley. We ordered: gyoza, shrimp shu mai, miso soup, sake, beer, salmon sushi, tuna sushi, and ikura. All were very good! Very nice ambience too -- can't tell from the outside how lovely and authentic it is on the inside. We are from a big city, and we felt this restaurant was comparable to what we would eat there. Don't go here. They can be extremely rude. Today after a misunderstanding, they mocked me and spoke to me as though I was stupid at the register and then I understood a word or two in their language and they were talking badly towards me and I left in tears. They made me feel extremely embarrassed as a customer and now neither my family or I will be returning to this establishment.
