I had an online takeout order, and I was disappointed that they messed up my order. I had a comments when I submitted the online menu (beyond menu). It was suppose to be a shrimp hibachi with no rice and double veggie, but somehow it ended up being a chicken with double rice. No idea how they messed up that. It also is two dollar more per entree using there online platform. (Definitely should've called ahead instead). Taste wasn't as good as normal dine in. For my son's 21st bday we took the fam to Sakura for hibachi. This is a standard Japanese restaurant but I'm really pleased with how well they adapted to accommodate our party of vegans. I neglected to get the name of our server, but this young man instantly rose to the occasion and was on top of everything. He checked with the kitchen, ensuring everything was safe for our dietary needs. The hibachi chef was fun and charming. He did a great job entertaining the table and the food was delicious. The environment was comfortable, and seating was great for the nine of us. This is one of my go to sushi restaurants. I haven't eaten in, I'm probably years, but I trust them enough that when I found out they provide the sushi for my local Kroger, I was willing to say that too. Whenever I go in person to pick up, they're always super friendly and my food never takes too long to get to me either. Today I was feeling more fresh and cooked though, so I ordered the volcano roll, Philly roll, and Crab Rangoon. The volcano roll is one of my faves and I love going to different restaurants to see how they make it, since everyone makes theirs a little differently. Sakura is a good place to sit back and enjoy a sushi lunch in the west end. We were seated immediately and our server was quick and attentive and cordial. Also available at Sakura is hibachi dining. Even during the lunch hour there were multiple parties enjoying the usual, if slightly abbreviated, cooking entertainment that hibachi entails. Since we were not doing hibachi, I can speak only to the sushi side of the house. Lunch came with a choice between the usual sushi house salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. Most local places include both, rather than offering a choice of one. I paid the upcharge to get both. They were as expected -- fine and a welcome part of the dining experience but obviously not the star of the show. While the number of items on a sushi or sashimi lunch plate are on the low-average side (four in each case) each item is the real deal -- tuna, salmon, mackeral, and yellowtail. Many places will give you a fifth (or even sixth) piece of nigiri, but the additional pieces are inevitably scrambled egg and / or shrimp, which are in my mind the afterthoughts on a sushi plate. And the four cuts of fish you get at Sakura are generous and fresh. On the "plus" plates, you also get your choice of perhaps a dozen rolls. (There is a larger option, the "pro" plate, which gives you a second roll. That sounds like a lot of food!) I chose the Alaska roll, which is salmon and avacado. Very nice, and again they did not skimp on the fish. My dining partner chose a spicy salmon roll. It had a nice crunch, though not much spice (on the menu the spice was attributed to a spicy mayo, which was lost on me.) We also got an order of crab rangoon. It may have been a special, as I do not see it on the online menu. It was nice and creamy with a touch of bacon. My partner liked it a lot but thought it was not a sufficient quantity for an appetizer, even at $8. We left feeling good and satisfied. A nice tranquil lunchtime, done pretty well. read more

Definitely not Japanese Steakhouse hibachi...more like fast food chicken teriyaki. What a disappointing lunch. The hamachi jalapeño appetizer wasn't great...the fish was not that fresh. I get this at Yaya's and it's spectacular. For the Chicken hibachi, it was loaded with teriyaki and the food clearly didn't go near a hibachi grill and wasn't cooked to order. This was cooked in a batch and kept in a pan on a steam table like at a fast food place. Won't order again and won't go there to eat. read more

Would not recommend this place if you are vegetarian. Asked the cook making hibachi to use separate spatulas instead of using the same one for raw meat and vegetables. He did not understand and kept using the spatula from raw meat and touching the vegetables. Not only that, but cooked the meat and vegetables so close that the juice from the meat was dripping into the vegetables. family went here for the first time the other night- food was wonderful and delicious! Service was prompt. However, I took off stars because of how the employees treated us. While service was prompt, when we walked in, the host was very rude to us (we stated we had never been there before, and he rolled his eyes and would not speak clearly or look at us to talk so we couldn't hear him). I am very understanding to food service employees, so It did not bother me at first. But as we sat down, our waitress was very pushy and rushing us to order even though we had just sat down and had just gotten the menu. just wish they had been a little more patient with us is all. We decided to go for a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday at 330. The website said they were open from 12-9 so we were very disappointed to find that they were closed and hours in the doer were different from what was stated on the website. Luckily we found something else in the area as we drove 22 minutes to dine there. Went to pick up lunch today and the host and hostess were very rude. I have seen other reviews regarding the rudeness of the staff. Obviously they don't care because the behavior has not changed, The young girl gave me my order no Thank You nothing. I will never go back again. And they have a sign saying you get 5% off if you pay with cash. I had to ask for it. They also have a sign regarding the service at the big tables where they cook in front of you. The sign is kind of hidden behind a plant but it says 18% for large groups even if your bill is separate from the others. This seems extreme to me as the food is way overpriced anyway. The spot doesn't look like much walking by and had middle of the road reviews, so we decided to take a chance on trying it for lunch today. Actually the food is very good. It's a lack of common business sense that I take away so many stars. Business that are doing good get lazy and act stupid as I observed on Saturday. I had reservations for 5 at 1. They wouldn't take my reservation any later because they close for a couple of hours between lunch and dinner. The man then said he wanted to then make a reservation at 2 the next Saturday. He was told no because they closed at three for two hours in the afternoon. They man just left. That was a lot of money they threw away just so they can close for a couple of hours and on a busy Saturday. Very bad business practices. Points off for our Hibachi Chef. Older Japanese Chef that looked the part...but was just average. The high school waiter we had could have done as good of a job. The chef came out and started with the traditional display of swirling the cooking utensils. His show was plain and more noisy than impressive. The chef did zero talking or entertaining during his cooking presentation. Further, my son asked for white rice and he gave him the fried rice anyway. The other customer asked her vegetables to not include zucchini and the chef forgot. Then he put salmon on my plate and I ordered scallops. The chef had to go to the back to get more salmon to cook. The other patron said minutes later she had already filled up on the other food when he finally served her salmon. I know this is petty but the chef only used two onion rings for the flaming volcano which to me was just lazy. Ambiance was ok too. Kinda Walmart Japanese... 3.5 stars TL;DR: typical hibachi/sushi restaurant. Big portions Came here for an early Mother's day dinner. Majority of our party did the hibachi, and a couple did sushi. Our hibachi chef was very friendly and cooked quickly. The show was your typical smiley face fire ball, onion volcano train, and shrimp toss at the end. The food was cooked great though, and the portions were huge. Hibachi chicken was good, and you got 2 pieces of huge shrimp too. For personal preference though, I had wished the veggies were cooked a little longer. We also got 3 simple rolls (spicy tuna crunch and spicy salmon crunch). When it came out, I couldn't tell which one was which. It looked like mushed fish inside a roll. I personally would not recommend, but the rest of the sushi (sashimi, specialty rolls) looked and tasted really good. I would definitely come back here, especially if we have a big party. read more

I ordered a California Roll, Miso soup, salad w/ginger dressing and a side of rice. Everything I ordered was very good. Although, I do question the rice. I specifically asked if they had Jasmine Rice and was told yes. Which is why i ordered a side of rice. Although it was good, it didn't taste like Jasmine Rice which to me had a slight sweet taste. We went for dinner and we're pleasantly surprised! From the outside it's a strip mall restaurant but this place is far from its first impression! There was a short wait, which we expected, and the host told us that if we didn't want to show of the hibachi but would rather have a more private table he could seat us right away! And it was really lovely! My husband and I sat in a private table and had a really lovely evening! The menu was impressive! Sushi, hibachi, bento boxes and so much more! The owner Mr. Chen is so nice and friendly and so is the little lady that answers the phone with the soft voice. We were able to order hibachi at a booth, at the same full price, without the 'show'. The waitress could barely converse in English and was not very attentive. Food took very long to be served. Other customers (larger parties) came in well after we ordered; they were seated at a grill table and had their food well before ours was served to us. Even without the 'grill experience' were charged the full grill experience price. This was excessive for a $18 at best meal, which cost $26. After approaching the owner about this situation he responded in a disrespectful manner and immediately began to insult my family & I with racist comments & threatened to call the cops if we refused to pay the added tip amount . She never came back to table after taking our order...Not once no refills nothing. Then another server proceeds to tell us You can only get one yum yum sauce Togo per person. This is such an average hibachi kind of place. I'd give it 2.5 stars. One irritating thing was that they wanted us to start to receive our dinner, and allow the "cook" to start on our dinner, because 1. the grill was hot, and 2. because there was another couple already waiting at the hibachi grill. Well, I'm sorry, but that's not my problem. My wife and I ordered an appetizer, and we told them we were not interested in getting our dinner right away, and that we didn't want the order processed. I have visited this restaurant many time...probably over 25. But last night's dinner experience was the most disgusting time and the last. It started with the restaurant having the dishes/silverware sitting out for us to use, along with dishes the other guests will use. I ordered Hibachi Filet, Gluten Free, which means they have to cook it in the back instead of on the hibachi in front of us. The meal was delivered timely. Half-way thru the meal I found a long piece of hair in the rice. Not wanting to bother other customers I took it out of the area to the waitress and gave it to her. One of the guys that work there brought it back to me and argued it wasn't anyone's hair that was in the kitchen. I'm like "what??!!" how would it get in the middle of the rice, if not. He goes away. Another irate guy comes over and says the same thing. I asked him why we were still having the conversation. He yelled and said he was calling the police. He left the bowl with the hair visible on the table. YUCK! I took a picture of it for the review. Also, to add fuel to the fire the only COVID safety precautions that was in place was the employees wearing the masks. Didn't help when both guys were about 2 feet from me, while discussing the hair, and the bathroom is so small that anyone that comes out of the stall is within 1 ft (maybe) from the other customer.
