If you know, you know. And if you don't know yet, let me be the one to introduce you. O!nigiri is one of those places that feels like a little secret, tucked right next to Lotte Plaza Market, which is honestly the perfect location. I've made it my personal rule to stop here before I grocery shop, because walking into Lotte on an empty stomach is a financial decision I can no longer afford to make. I got the salmon, tuna, and sukiyaki, and every single one was exactly what a good onigiri should be: generously filled, perfectly textured rice that holds together just right without feeling like a compressed brick, and flavors that are clean and satisfying without trying too hard. It sounds simple because it is simple. That's the whole point, and that's exactly why it's so hard to do well. The owners are warm and genuinely friendly in a way that feels real, not rehearsed. The interior is small and charming, lined with anime figures and collectibles that give it this cozy, personal energy, like eating in someone's lovingly curated living room. Seating is limited, but I usually take mine to go anyway, eating it in the parking lot like a man who has zero regrets. Here's the thing though. O!nigiri used to have a spot in Carytown years ago, and when they closed, I took it harder than I'd like to admit. Something about losing a place that does something specific incredibly well hits different. So when I found out they were back, I felt genuinely victorious. Don't sleep on this place. It's a small, perfect thing in a city that deserves more of them. read more

I was visiting Lotte market and saw this place nearby. I believe i went to the original location years ago in Carytown and remember it was delicious. Excited to see it has come back and I think the location is perfect. I tried the salmon mayo and it was delicious. Super filling. I find onigiri tend to be on the dryer side, but the mayo made it nice and moist. I will be coming back next time I'm in the area! Makes me remember my times in Japan going to 7/11 or Familymart. read more

O!nigiri - Salmon onigiri - Japanese Near Me - Richmond, Virginia

I'm glad Richmond has a solid option for onigiri now. They have so many kinds to choose from and they also have a fun variety of Asian bottled drinks. I appreciate their allergen list. We were asked if we'd like them warmed up in the microwave. The shop is quaint and a mom and pop. The owner is very friendly. There are a few small tables for inside seating, though grab and go seems to be more common. read more

This is a fantastic place for takeout and quick onigiri! I came here for a meeting with my intern and we loved the pink interior with all the cute figurines. They have two small tables available inside. This charming onigiri shop is located right next to Lotte market. They have a display case with a huge selection of onigiri flavors as well as two spam options. I loved that they had a lot of vegan choices. I decided to get the karaage and salmon onigiri. My intern got the karaage and teriyaki spam. She seems to enjoy both of her choices. I was full after just one onigiri! They are filling. I had a lot of fun eating this because it reminded me of my times at FamilyMart. I wish I ordered the walnut miso based on other reviews. I found what I picked to be good, but I'm excited to try other options soon. read more

Delicious Onigiri restaurant located near Lotte Market. Upon entering you're greeted with a variety of Onigiri (Rice balls filled with a savory filling wrapped in seaweed) flavors. They also have some Japanese drinks available and a few indoor seating options if you'd like to enjoy your choices inside. The cashier was very kind and helpful, she offered to warm up my choices but I was planning on taking them to go to enjoy at home so she talked to me about how to warm them up in the microwave (20 seconds to warm up in the microwave). I ended up choosing the Walnut Miso, Baked Salmon and Karaage (fried chicken) Onigiri. They offer vegan options on top and non vegan options on the bottom rows. The walnut miso stole the show for me, it is one of their most popular flavors and I see why. It has a very sweet and savory flavor that really compliments the rice and seaweed. I also thoroughly enjoyed the salmon and karaage flavors. I was surprised at how hefty each piece was and each had a decent amount of filling in it. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try! Check out the walnut miso and maybe pick another flavor you're interested in, I can't see how you'd be disappointed! read more

One of the best parts of O!nigiri is the incredibly sweet, kind, and efficient staff, who make the experience enjoyable from start to finish. The restaurant is super cute and thoughtfully decorated. The menu offers a great selection, though the pricing feels slightly high for the value. We especially recommend the spicy tuna. The salmon and karaage (fried chicken) were pleasant but on the simpler side and could use a bit more flavor. As a result, these items tasted somewhat dry when bites consisted mostly of rice and seaweed. read more

This walnut miso combo was AMAZING!! I will absolutely be back to try more. The interior is very much meant to help you embrace your inner weeb, with cute anime decor all over. Service is wonderful and speedy. I will absolutely be back. read more

The lady working here is just so nice. We got our food and she told us about the food itself and even some stuff about japan. It's a little shop with a ton of character and it's just amazing. I mentioned I started studying Japanese and she even quizzed me on 2 words! I love this shop. read more

Have you visited Japan and miss the train station chimes? Maybe you just miss hearing the Donki theme song. Or the countless gasha machines. Or the tamago sandos at 7-11. Well, I have great news. Not only does this place have great onigiri, they will gladly provide the rest, as well, in store and will even sing the theme song with you if you're lucky. The people running this shop are an absolute gem to the Richmond community. read more

It was my first time stopping by this cute onigiri shop in Richmond. The interior was very clean, well-organized, and charmingly decorated in a Japanese theme. It felt like I was in a shop in Akihabara, Japan. Moreover, their onigiris were larger than usual, and they offered a great variety of vegan options, which I prefer. On top of that, they tasted absolutely delicious! I am very picky when it comes to Japanese food since I was born and raised in Japan, so I was especially happy with the freshness and quality they offer. I will definitely be coming back for their onigiri! read more

Excellent fresh rice balls and with a good variety. Great service! Would definitely recommend visiting!

I grew up eating onigiri and love to get onigiri at convenience stores when visiting Japan- this place is a GEM. I only had the salmon one and it was amazing, FILLED with salmon and wrapped up just like they do in Japan so the seaweed stays crispy. Nostalgic to my childhood lunches- will come again read more

The food is the best! I highly recommend the walnut miso, it is what keeps me coming back.

Adorable shop! Went in today to see if they had anything I could eat. I have significant, life-threatening allergies. Their onigiri allergens are listed by the register, so I was able to order things I could safely eat. The young lady working the register was very patient and answered all of my questions. The salmon and mentaiko were delicious. Generous portions! read more

Amazing place and food I truly recommend! It's so cute and I love the variety of onigiri that it provides.

Stopped by today and they had a good crowd this morning! I've been wanting to try this place and finally had some time. I tried spicy tuna and it was delicious!! Hand made onigiri crafted deliciously. Rice was perfectly cooked, seaweed crisp, tuna filling was just the right amount of spicy and generous filling. The size was a large onigiri and very filling. Lots of variety of flavors as well as great options for vegetarian and vegan friends. There is a mayo or spicy kayo dipping sauce you can get, along with variety of fun Japanese drinks and some mochi dessert. I'd like to try the veggie options next time. The shop is small and very cute atmosphere and decor. They offer water and little origami you can do. Family friendly and cute date spot as well. Convenient location right next to lotte market and miniso. The service was very friendly and welcoming, small family owned business. Please show some support! read more
