Men's bathroom stall. Toilet paper was not in dispenser, and the lid was off on the floor.
Andrew K.

We do not ever recommend coming to this restaurant to anyone. What started as a seating for hibachi grill dinner ended in the worst experience me and my family had ever. The host was communicated with that someone in our family was gluten-free, and he assured that he would have their food cooked in the kitchen with gluten-free soy sauce. Then when the chef was making everyone's food on the grill he discovered that the family member was gluten-free. They began to yell at the host when the host came back asking why that wasn't communicated ahead of time but the tension was awkward for the entire table as they kept ranting and raving about who's fault it was. The host should've communicated that to the chef ahead of time. Then the family member was embarrassed for having to be asked all these questions about their order and being gluten-free. When the chef remade the family members gluten-free request, they were definitely not educated as they cross contaminated and cooked all of the materials on the same grill without cleaning them. Very dangerous for the family member but luckily they just have a gluten intolerance versus an actual allergen. Very dangerous! One of the people at our table let the chef know that there was also water that seemed like it was dripping on them from above the ceiling. When I looked up, I saw ceiling tiles that were completely dark and had not been changed in water dripping from look like a leaky ceiling that was never fixed. lastly, when we were leaving, I went to use the restroom and it looked like it had not been cleaned for a very long time. Rust and mildew all over tiles. Nothing was swept and the trash didn't look like it's been changed in a while. The worst part is inspecting the actual stalls you can see in a picture here that the toilet paper dispenser although it was on the wall had the toilet paper ring on the other side and not attached in the toilet paper cover for the dispenser was completely off the wall sitting on the floor in more dirt. If that's how they leave the bathroom a question what is their adequate for cleanliness? Honestly, wish I could give this restaurant more stars, but even after my family member had a gut that we should leave after we were sat down and the floors were so sticky our chairs were sliding, I didn't take that advice and we had to experience all the issues we did. We will never go back again.!

This is one of my favorite sushi places in Nashville. I've been several times and everything I've ordered has always tasted fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the sexy Laraine roll. For YEARS I've been looking for a place that makes sushi with thin slices of lemon and I finally found one. Not only does this roll have lemon, but it also has orange pieces. The combination of citrus, with the sauce and cilantro was just *chef's kiss.

To go order of sushi: Kobe Roll, Omega 3 Roll, Fire Island Roll, Colorful Roll and Pertty Women Roll

Ok, so I have come here before years ago for their hibachi and I wasn't very impressed. They are still needing upgrades and now more than ever. Their restrooms are DISGUSTING. I will always say that restaurants HAVE to have clean welcoming restrooms, period. It says a lot about the standards of their overall cleanliness. I had already pay so I made a blind eye. I also didn't see their health department score displayed anywhere. They have a bar/sushi area and a hibachi area. Both looked like they needed cleaning as well. The staff was polite and friendly. I placed a to go order of sushi and a "large" miso soup (I don't know what a small would of have been like) taste was ok. I got 5 special rolls: Kobe, Omega 3, Fire Island, Colorful and Pertty Women. The sushi tasted good but it didn't feel fresh, not like it wasn't made to order but more on the quality of the ingredients. The presentation was good too. Overall it's not a place I would avoid but it would definitely not be my first choice when I want sushi or hibachi. Definitely come and make your own opinion.

Love this place!!!! My husband and I have been coming here for a LONG time. Today, we ordered a double dragon roll, crunchy shrimp roll and a California roll. No matter what we order, it is good! You can sit at the hibachi grill or at a table or even at the sushi bar. For lunch, it is quicker sitting at a table.

The food was fresh and full of flavor. We ordered way too much and now we have dinner. We tried the vegetable tempura. The coating was perfectly crunchy and the vegetables were cooked to the right tenderness. That is a true skill!!! The crab Rangoon (not the crab puffs) had so much flavor we did not even need the dipping sauce. The tuna and jalapeño appetizer was extremely fresh and was served like a piece of art. The yaki soba (beef) was cooked beautifully, the vegetables actually looked like and tasted like vegetables, the beef was flavorful and tender, all good. The following sushi platter...did I tell you ordered sooo much food?!?! This place was so tasty, fresh and worth it! The service was friendly and the staff was accommodating. They barely commented on the massive amount of food we ordered. It was great. That's all I can say.

We purchased a coupon on Local Flavor & tried to use it & they say they couldn't honor it, that it wasn't valid. My husband & I shared a DINNER at lunch and & it's normally plenty for 2 people we both left there hungry & oh....they automatically charge 18% gratuity. Food was just OK, but because of both of those we will never be back & spreading the word because several of our friends purchased the same coupon. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SAKURA!

Pepsi!! Ugh.
Chris W.

To give credit where credit is due, this establishment served good food. The Yum-Yum sauce was fantastic and the food was tasty. However, this Sakura only serves Pepsi products which is indicative of a struggling restaurant trying to cut costs. Unfortunately, I can never come back here because of it. On top of the Pepsi dilemma, the first couple at our table ordered double rice and the chef did not compensate for that. As a result, the last 3-4 people in our group were skimped on their portions. It was really disappointing as the rice is the main character in the cast of the meal. Sakura in Hermitage, TN...ain't the place for me.

We just ate on the sushi side. They have a good selection and the price is very reasonable for sushi. The fish was fresh and the presentation of the food was fun. I will be back if I am in the area.

I had a great time here. My husband and I enjoyed the show. The chef was amazing and cooked the food perfectly. I would definitely recommend for a date night or a group of friends.

Sexy Love Roll - this is one of our absolute favorites! We get this every time we go.

When it comes to sushi I love raw salmon and am allergic to avocados so I ordered the Orange Blossom Roll and a Salmon Roll. The prices are super reasonable which made me want to order more things than I probably normally would. The food was so good that even though it's been a couple of weeks since I went to the restaurant for dinner, I'm still thinking about it. I will very likely be ordering more things next time! Also for those who are not sushi fans like I am, they have a huge menu with plenty of non-sushi foods too. I can't wait to go back! Also just as an added plus, they have plenty of free parking with their own lot right out front.

This is one of the rare times the Yelp reviews don't live up to my expectations. I'm giving 4 stars…read morebecause the staff was so friendly and kind, and I don't want to trash a small business. This is a no-frills, smaller restaurant inside a strip of stores in a questionable-looking area of town. As I parked the car, I thought twice about actually going in, but based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a try. It was clean inside, and, as I mentioned, the service and staff were 5-star! My food was where it went wrong for me. I started with the summer rolls (the ones in rice paper); they serve sushi and Thai food here. I have been craving summer rolls; I love the freshness of the mint and herbs, combined with crunchy peanuts and peanut sauce. However, that fell short for me here. The peanut sauce was reddish and tasted more like ketchup, so that was a letdown. No little peanuts anywhere in the sauce or on the plate. It was jam-packed with iceberg lettuce, which you would typically put on a Taco, so it wasn't very fresh-tasting, and it contained the tiniest piece of shrimp I've ever seen inside. Following my gut, I decided not to order my usual sushi selection, which is always raw, unfried, and unsauced. However, I decided to play it safe, so I opted for a Mexican roll instead. I asked for no eel sauce, but I should have also specified that I wanted spicy mayo on the side. It covered my roll, and I had to use a napkin to remove what I could. This is usually a roll that is around $6 to $10, but for some reason, they were charging $14. They made the rolls bigger, but not by filling them with more shrimp, avocado, etc.; instead, they added more rice. This may be someone's cup of tea, but it wasn't mine, and I won't be back, but wish them the best!

Parking was easy, and the inside was clean and modern. Rahul greeted me and took me to a table along the wall so I could sit on the cushy booth side. He explained the menu as a mash-up of the top five dishes from each of the Maru locations, a regional restaurant group led by a woman entrepreneur. I started with a Sapporo on draft and got carded, which made me smile. With the cold crisp beer in hand, I ordered from the regular and specials menus (after learning uni has sold out): Baja fresh maki (spicy tuna, green onion, cilantro, jalapeno, avocado, yellowtail) with ponzu 1 order (2 pieces) of ora king salmon nigiri 1 order (2 pieces) of otoro (fatty tuna belly) 1 negitoro temaki 1 spicy scallop temaki From the original order, the spicy scallop temaki and baja fresh roll came out first. The accompaniments included real wasabi, which was not listed on the menu, so that part was not my favorite, However, the scallop was fresh and flavorful. The baja fresh roll was so decicious, and I ate it all before the next food was ready! When the nigiri platter arrived, I learned the otoro was also unavailable so it was substituted with chutoro (medium fatty tuna). This was still beautiful and fresh, and I appreciated the honesty. I was only charged for regular maguro and not the price of the special. The chutoro was seasoned by the chef and very flavorful. The ora king salmon was delicious too, but I did need a tiny bit of soy sauce on it to counterbalance the wasabi. The negitoro temaki was absolutely oishi! It led me to order one more temaki, the spicy yellowtail, and I requested no fresh wasabi since it was listed as an ingredient on the menu. I enjoyed this last bite while chatting with Rahul and learning more about him. He then surprised me with some strawberry and pineapple mochi for my birthday week! Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the great service, and the high quality food. There is a huge menu so it would be fun to come back with more people. Itadakimasu!

We were greeted nicely by the hostess and waited roughly 5 minutes for a table to open up. A family of five came in right after us and decided to sit at the bar to eat. I knew in my heart that this was the best place to go to for my husband's birthday dinner. We sat on some barstools while we waited, discussing the hockey game playing on the tv behind the bar. I loved the low ambient lighting that spread across the ceiling. Our waitress was nice but she never gave us her name so I unfortunately can't shout her out. She gave us recommendations so I ended up taking one of hers. Now, if you have read my Thai restaurant reviews, you know by now that I judge a Thai restaurant by ordering their Pad Thai the first visit, however, I broke that rule because I just KNEW this place was going to be good. We ordered the Tom Kha soup with chicken, Pad Kee Mao with chicken, I ordered the Khao Soi Gai (it comes with chicken, no substitutions), and one Thai iced tea. You guys. When the Tom Kha soup touched my lips, I was SO excited to get the main course! It was made PERFECTLY. I haven't had true Tom Kha since probably when I lived in California over a decade ago. The Thai tea was strong and delicious, exactly how it should be made. The Khao Soi Gai...that first sip of the curry broth nearly made me go Meg Ryan-mode in the restaurant. If you know, you know. "I'll have what she's having!" Our waitress recommended this dish and I'm so glad I was adventurous and tried something different outside of my "I'll judge you based off of your Pad Thai" attitude. It was perfect and when I say perfect, I didn't even add lime juice to it because I didn't want to mess anything up with the flavor profile. Sure, lime could have added another element to the dish but when I say it was perfect the way it was, it's true. The night at Smiley would have ended perfectly if it weren't for the miserable couple who sat beside us discussing how unhappy they were in their marriage and decided to accept the waitstaff into their broken marriage by being completely rude. But the staff remained professional and kind through it all and I give them HUGE props for that because I was a moment away from telling that wretched couple off. In short, the staff here are wonderful, and the food is memorable, delectable, delicious, perfect...it's HEAVEN. We will DEFINITELY be back to try other menu items!
