We are Visiting from Scottsdale, AZ and didn't know how we would find a sushi restaurant so far from a "big city". What a delightful surprise. The good was absolutely scrumptious and some wonderful variations! My husband and I were with another couple and all of us agreed, this is a "must return" while we are here. We would have rated it 5 star but, the only areas we feel needs improvement are, it would be great if the rolls could come out at the same time - 3 of us were completely finished with ours before the other one arrived! Agadashi Tofu. Could make a meal on its own. But that's not why most people come here. They want Sushi. And this is as good as you can get in Montana. Repeat after me, "in Montana." It really is pretty stinkin good sushi though. We had the poke, a special that night which wasn't that great. But the rolls were yummy. We had a vegan friend with us, so half our plates were vegan and they were fab. They are very vegan friendly here. Intimate dining area. Good service. Great wine selection. Full bar. This place is delicious, probably the best sushi in the Flathead. I love the Massive Attack roll and the Clockwork Orange. The salmon sashimi is always perfectly fatty and fresh. Oh, and the miso soup is hands down the best I've ever had and the sake selection is GREAT! My only complaint is they don't take American Express. While that might not seem like a big deal, it's huge for those of us who use it exclusively for business. I would definitely visit more often if I could use my preferred card. read more

Loved it!! Great atmosphere. Sat at the bar and the bartender invented an amazing gin cocktail for us. The food was excellent, ordered the Big Fork Roll sub avocado for the cream cheese per the recommendation of the hostess. Amazing!! Love(d) this place! I live locally and frequent when I can however, this meal wasn't great. Ordered to-go. The gentleman on the phone was polite and service was great. I walked in and it was not busy. (I ordered two Massive Attack specialty rolls) I came home to my sushi tossed in a box. Both rolls weren't cut accordingly, and were to large to eat whole. Also, the seaweed inside wasn't tight and uniform like normal. I am disappointed, because I paid $30 for a mess. I ordered to-go, the effort in good sushi should have been there. I want to let you know that my wife and I are vacationing in the area later this summer and were looking for cool places to try. However, after reading your customers comments and your complete lack of empathy and overwhelming placation, not to mention using the current pandemic as an excuse not to follow obvious health and safety guidelines, but rather put your customers and staff at risk thinking you have to make every dime off every person that comes in the door. You wouldn't believe the overwhelming support you'd get from many more customers if you showed true dedication to customer/staff safety, even if there were wait times and your "table count" went down. You'd be busier that you know what to do with in short order. While I completely empathize with the difficult situation you and millions of others are in, please do the real research to see what best practices are being used successfully. Depending on your "real" reaction to this post, I'll either suggest to the huge wedding party to try your establishment or not, up to you. read more

Was excited per the previous reviews but this place was disappointing. - sit at the bar and you have full view of the dishwasher during your entire meal. - sushi chefs never said a word to us. Awkward and rude considering we were 2 feet from them. - sushi chef sloppily threw fish dishes around in the refrigerator. - rolls were sloppy, no surprise. Rice wasn't sticking and they were drenched in sauce. The lemon rinds were an awful decision to have on a roll. - roll descriptions are complicated and confusing. The food certainly was good, but the overall experience of eating here was one of the oddest I've had, and I left feeling kind of like crap. We were placed at some uncomfortable stools at the bar because "all the tables are booked already" (even though half of them sat empty for the majority of our time there). We were ignored for most of our wait while the multiple employees, including the owner, chatted loudly with their friends. The chef and one of his buddies talked really loudly over the music, swearing pretty prolifically in earshot of customers. Since we were seated at the bar, we didn't have a choice but to be right in the middle of this, and it felt a lot like we'd accidentally walked into someone's living room while they were hanging out with their buddies. I really just wanted to get out of there because it felt so awkward. One of the other big issues was the wait. We waited over an hour for our food, and there was not even an acknowledgement that this was an unusually long wait, nor an attempt to make it right. There are probably ten tables in the whole place, so the fact that it took 80 minutes was surprising. The entire atmosphere was very weird and felt unprofessional. While we waited, some friends of the owner/chef (or maybe business partners--again, I heard their entire conversation since I was like a foot away) came in and got some personalized attention and were offered a (supposedly booked!) table. The owner made all of these specialty dishes for them while we (plebeians) sat and waited for the food we'd ordered over an hour previously. And there seemed to be some kind of tiff unfolding between two of the waitresses. It was one of the more strange experiences I've had eating somewhere. These people all seem like great guys to have a beer with, but being a regular old patron was a really uncomfortable experience. Decent sushi IMHO, but considering where it's located, it's good. We had the edamame, Maverick roll and the DT Aftermath. The edamame was a good-sized portion. The waitress wasn't as attentive as I would've liked (edamame sat on the counter for several minutes with her going past it a number of times before bringing it over, didn't refill water promptly). The rolls took longer to get to our table than I expected. She brought the wasabi and ginger after we began to eat already (she stated that she had forgotten to bring it to us). Would I return? Our service was awful. Straight AWFUL. We were there around 5pm on a weekday. It wasn't busy at all. But our waitress was so incredibly rude, absent, and irritated with us from the moment she came to our table to the moment we left. She was snippy, short, and there was absolutely no reason for it. We asked for more time to order and she stomped away in a huff, she rolled her eyes when we ordered multiple of the same rolls, it was all very strange and unnecessary and honestly I won't be back because of it. Can there be a more beautiful drive in America than the road to Bigfork? Wow, very scenic road and amazing town once you get there. Remember in life the journey is just as important as the destination. This sushi restaurant, located on the main street in town, has really good sushi choices. I had the electric eel sushi roll, after happy hour sake' and spicy edemame. There is a tofu appetizer that is out of this world. The food is remarkable. Showed up at 5:00 as requested, was told "Oh ya I tried to call you but your mailbox was full, we can't get you in" Nice scripting.....I had my phone on me all day no phone calls, my mailbox was not full "I checked".....will never try to go here again......called Blue Samari in Kalispell talked to the nicest gal....reservation was made, they welcomed us and we had the best meal!!!! Great place to hang out if you are into being treated like an inconvenience by the staff. We took the only available reservation which was 8:45. We didn't get seated until 9:15. The entire time we were there the staff treated us like a giant inconvenience. We were rushed to order food at same time we placed our drink order. Half way through our meal we asked for another round of drinks and they told us the bar was closed. They then proceeded to drop of our bill before we were done eating. They started taking our plates before we were finished. We said amongst ourselves "don't take a late night reservation if you don't want to serve people after 9:00" they overheard us and proceeded to talk poorly about us behind our backs. At one point the manager loudly proclaimed "good they can hear us talk $@*# about them now" . They then turned up the (not good music) as loud as they could and started vaping at the bar while counting their tips and cleaning tables all around us. I took a couple here for a special anniversary. Live in Kalispell. We are sushi veterans, for sure. The sushi was decent. Would have appreciated a little more flexibility on the menu if not ordering their special rolls. Like a bento box option, or more combo dinners with some mix and match options. THE SERVICE WAS SLOW, INATTENTIVE and APATHETIC. We had to ask for the bill twice. Finally sent the happy couple out to get the car while I flagged down another employee to get our tab. Our waiter was out of sight for the better part of the dinner. THE NOISE LEVEL WAS HIGH. The acoustics are so bad, we decided to sit three on booth side of table, so we could talk. Still couldn't . Sakotome in Big Fork is our favorite place to eat and gets 5 stars for every visit. We usually trek up north in the boat during summer for a blast of a night and stellar food or drive up east shore if the weather isn't so great. Props to all the staff at this location they are truly amazing every time. We think it's not only the atmosphere and great food that makes this place truly great but the little things like the attention the staff puts forth to make sure your visit is special every time.
