I never leave reviews. Ever. But my recent experience here was such a disaster that I feel obligated to warn others. I've eaten at this place regularly - at least once a month - but after this visit, I won't be back. The service was abysmal. I experienced multiple microaggressions from both the receptionist and the server/"manager" on duty while simply asking for basic, reasonable service. It was uncomfortable and completely unnecessary. I also called back to express my disappointment, and I was met with SO MUCH attitude back. This "manager," although I think it was a server pretending to be a manager, said "Okay, so what do you want from me? What do you even want me to do?" with so much attitude, I just shut down and said, refund me for the missing items, and let's end this. Thats code for "I'm NEVER eating here again!" I was told they were slammed and too busy, yet I was asked to wait in the back by the kitchen while I watched another guest walk in and get seated immediately at the bar. It made no sense since we asked to be seated at the bar. Once seated, I was repeatedly rushed to place my order -- to the point of being overwhelmed -- and then, on top of all that, my order was still wrong. Oh, and we did eat one appetizer in the restaurant while we waited for our to-go order, and the crab ragoons were burnt to a crisp...burnt. Yeah, so, I'm not sure what's going on here, but the staff is not happy and clearly taking it out on the patrons. The way I was treated made the entire experience not worth my time or money. I left feeling frustrated and disrespected, and that's not something I'm willing to tolerate. This visit completely turned me off. I won't be returning. I'd much rather flush $200 down the drain every week. read more

Unlike the last review from Karen in Kalifornia, we have been going to Samurai for 4 years and have never had a bad meal or bad service. Split an order of crab rangoons and she bought us an extra order. Food was really good. Snapper, tuna, salmon, crab, and wasabi were all super fresh. Got beer and some plain rolls that weren't on the menu, so no worries if the options aren't to your liking. The hand rolls and miso soup were great too. I can't pretend to be a sushi connoisseur living in Montana. But for Montana we have some great Sushi options and this is one of them. I've tried several rolls here and I've liked them all. Dragon, Hot N Juicy, and the Bubba. I'm a spicy tuna fan and theirs is great. They also have hand rolls here which are my absolute favorite even over over any sushi rolls. Calamari is good. Tried the Tuna Tataki and I wasn't into it. It was a little tough and too fishy. Elegantly presented and with a real Sushi bar that you can sit at and watch them prepare it, it's the best seat in the house. They will answer your questions and give you samples to try. Food is ok, taste a bit on a sweet side. But it is very uncomfortable to answer all the questions every 5 minutes when we were in the middle of a conversation. Greeting was fine. What is your name? Went with my guide dog (I am disabled) I was asked for documentation (which is against Montana law) but even when I showed paperwork and proof I was asked to take my service dog outside. Montana law states that a business CANNOT ask for documentation or proof of the service animal or disability. The place seems very popular. Maybe that is because Kalispell does not have many sushi places to choose from. I've been there several times and have found the food to be good, but not exceptional, and the sushi rolls seem really overpriced; in the high $20 range to even $30. For a party of 6, I've never gotten out of Blue Samurai for under $300 and that is for food and tip only, no alcohol. On my most recent visit in May, they've started a new "trick" of charging patrons a 3% surcharge if you decide to use a credit card. Nowhere on the menu did I see this mentioned. Is it the end of the world? No. Is it annoying that they charge a premium for their sushi rolls and then have the nerve to surcharge credit card customers 3%, without telling you this in advance? Yes, very much so, in a sneaky kind of way. And if you are a party of 6 or more, plan on them also tacking on a mandatory 20% tip. For me on a sub total of $239, there was a mandatory tip of $48 and a credit card surcharge of $7.50 = $55.50 added to my bill without my consent. This is just a high priced place all the way around. Was pleasantly surprised by our dining experience at Blue Samurai. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls, and thought they were delicious and the fish was quite fresh. My favorite was the Heavenly Roll, which had a lemon wedge and ponzu sauce, giving it a refreshing citrus flavor. The service was also great. We did have to wait some time to get our food, but our waitress was very friendly and checked on us regularly. What a lively experience as we interacted with the chef and other sushi preppers, choosing what they recommended. We chatted with a couple next to us who were locals (so you know it's good!) and enjoyed hearing about the area. My brother and sister in law and I dined at Blue Samurai on 2/13/24 and it was a freezing snowy night in Montana. My husband does not like cucumbers and wanted to substitute them for avocado and their answer was NO we don't sub. I wanted to add mango to my roll and again the answer was no. They offered to bring mango on the side, but it's not the same when it's not in the roll. We would have paid extra, but that wasn't an option. Also, the calamari was $18 for a very small portion. Best sushi in flathead valley, hands down. They use REAL snow crab in their rolls and they load up the rolls and nigiri with fish! The fish to rice ratio is amazing-- very fresh and high quality ingredients! I got two rainbow rolls with no avocado because of an allergy and squid and tuna nigiri. My mom got shrimp nigiri and the Alaskan roll with no mayo because of a dairy allergy. They made hers fresh right there because the mix usually contains the mayo! Talk about customer service! This restaurant went above and beyond to make our dining experience superb. My mom and I both agreed it was a fantastic experience. Everything sat really well, too, no heavy lethargic feeling you sometimes get from other sushi places. Price was reasonable for the quality and portions.
