This place is a great sushi spot. No AYCE but they do sell "fancy" sushi for such a small price that you can easily get your fill for under $10. They're $3.50 rolls are also ENORMOUS but are still tasty and fresh. I am known to eat a lot but a plate of spicy salmon and spicy scallop will easily fill ne up. There tends to be only one waitress at a time for some reason so service can be slow at times but she tries to be attentive as possible. However, my biggest complaint also has to be with this particular waitress. While she has been more than kind to me, to my friend a whole lot less. EVERYTIME we go there the waitress will avoid servicing my particular friend and will only focus on me. My friend is not a chatty person but she also isnt rude. However, even when paying the check, the waitress will refuse to engage with my friend. Needless to say, I guess I'm going to be coming here alone from now on. read more

Before discovering Sake Sushi, Sushi Q was the nearest cheap sushi place around the area. While Sushi Q is still cheaper with its $2.75/plate deal, Sake Sushi is almost just as cheap... at least with the standard rolls. Additionally, this place has a much larger menu selection, the food tastes better and fresher, portion sizes are much ginormous-er (order their hand rolls and you'll see what i mean), takes plastic as payment, and serves ridiculously cheap alchie! But heads up: if the bar isn't open, you need to order food... or at least one roll... to accommodate your libations. One thing Sake Sushi is stingy on is the waitress' (or owner?) smiles... but she's nice and attentive enough. When I'm craving affordable sushi, this spot is only 5 minutes from my house! read more

I LOOOVE sake sushi! Ever since I've started school at Mt.SAC, I only eat here in between classes. Their $3.50 rolls are so filling, but really I'm here for their crazy roll! The salmon here especially tastes really buttery and nice, I'm always tempted to order sashimi. The waitresses here are really nice, the one that always sees me remembers my usual order. She always asks whether you want miso or ice cream, but be cautious since since it's not free haha! But she's so sweet and will always check if you have enough water! This place is the least busy in the afternoon, in my opinion. But I don't know about weekends! read more

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a nice young man..... we ordered our food and everything was very good... BUT, after about 1 hour, another older man came up to us and said he "needed" our booth. He asked us to leave!!!!! Now mind you, we are not young, rude, out of control teenagers.... my friend and I our 65 and 68.... both retired after successful careers.... I looked around to see how many tables were available..... there were 6 empty booths and 2 small tables, also empty...... I then looked at the entrance to see if maybe there were tons of people in line waiting to get in.... nope, not one person in line.... Needless to say, we won't be returning to this very rude establishment...... I so hope the owner reads this write up and really thinks about what he or his employee did to ruin our wanting to come back..... As of today , Sunday, Nov. 19, no one from this establishment has bothered to respond to the review.... I guess I am to assume that they do not read reviews regarding their business, they do not care what people think of their business, or they do not want to take the opportunity to try and keep a potential loyal customer.... Unfortunately I have to give two stars. I came in on Thursday at 11:30am when they opened and waited until 12:15 to get my two rolls. My salmon hand roll and baked California roll tasted fine, but the rice was definitely not cooked properly. The server was nice, he looked very concerned that they were so behind on orders. The pricing is reasonable, actually I would consider it pretty cheap. (8.75 for baked Cali and 3.50 for the handroll). We stand at the edge of oblivion. Where taste goes to die, and time is equally wasting. As many have stated the service was terrible. It took a very, very long time to get anything done from ordering, to food arriving, to getting the check. This place is extremely understaffed with one waitress who goes from bussing to handling cash, to helping to make the sushi. Utter insanity. But really service will always depend on the time of day. What's most important is the quality of food, and boy does this place miss the mark. The rice is very fragmented, unable to hold its form in both sushi form and plate form. The Katsu and the Teriyaki Chicken were both overcooked. Now mind you these are by no means hard dishes to make. Having worked in a Japanese restaurant myself, I can attest to the fact that perfectly cooking these doshes to a desirable texture is an easy task. The only exception would be total negligence once they are on the grill or in the fryer. On top of thos, the flavors are a cacophony of madness. Sweetness where there should be salt and salt where there should be sweet. All of this done to a gratuitous degree. The miso soup had an off putting underlying sweetness to it. While the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and salty is a staple of Japanese cuisine, Miso soup is definitely not one that should experience such a convergence. After all, it is the pride of salt and soy fermentation. All in all it is not a place to trifle with. My boyfriend and I have been coming to Sake Sushi regularly for about a year and a half and have yet to be disappointed. The sushi is very reasonably priced so this restaurant is great for frugal people that like to get a lot of food. Plus, everything we have tried has always been extremely fresh and delicious. They also have a large selection to choose from. The only reason I'm giving this place 4/5 stars is because their service fluctuates a lot. Sometimes they get out food out quickly and the server is attentive to when we need a refill or anything if the sort and other times the server is not attentive at all and doesn't visit our table to ask if we need anything nor is looking so that we can call her attention if we do need something else. I love sushi but I did not like THIS sushi restaurant, at all. 1st, we (my friend and I) walked in and we were seated right away. However, I think the waiter or the host forgot about us and we had to flag him down after about 5 minutes. Our water came, no straw. :/ Our waiter was also the host, he was not personable and not informative. I asked questions about the menu, he didn't know. He later told me what I wanted to order is not the actual price on the menu. I asked how much, he was not sure and said "I think it's $14.99 or something like that". ... or something like that? like what? why don't you get the right information. My friends food gets there, and since she ordered a chicken bowl combo, I wanted her to eat the food and not wait for me. I didn't want her to eat her food cold. Assuming my food will get there right after. 5 minutes pass, she's almost done with her meal. 10 minutes pass, now i'm starting to nibble on her chicken. THEN, the waiter comes over and says "the chef told me that the sashimi that you ordered, is "special order" and will take another 20 minutes more to make." Are you kidding me? an additional 20 minutes? What did they do, go to the ocean to catch the fish??? So, I said, "ok, that's fine. I waited this long. What about my hand roll. Can we get that as soon as he is done, and you don't have to bring it together?" While I'm waiting for my food, I'm looking at my friends combo plate. The California Roll was fairly small, however, the rice was filled on there was so thick. Rolls shouldn't have so much rice on it. This is not a "rice roll" after all. Plus her portion of the food was so small. MY portion was small too! Us fat girls like to eat! Well, she was done eating with her food when mine finally came. They should of served us together. Anyway, once my sashimi finally got there, i was really disappointed. The fish was in a bowl. NOT at all what was in the picture, The picture had a square plate, flat, and it looks much bigger, much more. I don't know if it was my nose, or that's how it was suppose to smell. Some of the fish smelled "very fishy". I heard that if fresh fish smells like fish, then its getting old or not quality fish. Plus it was lacking flavor.
