We visited today, July 26, 2026, at approximately 5:30 PM, and unfortunately had one of the worst Japanese meals we've ever experienced. The miso soup tasted like dirty dishwater and was completely lacking in flavor. I ordered the teriyaki salmon, and the salmon was sliced so incredibly thin that it was disappointing from the moment it arrived. The teriyaki sauce was also unusually watery and lacked the rich, flavorful consistency you would expect. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was even worse. The batter was a dark yellow-orange color, and it was obvious the frying oil was extremely old. The entire dish smelled and tasted like rancid oil, making it inedible. The California rolls were also very unappetizing. The rice appeared gray rather than the bright white color you would normally expect, making the rolls look old and unappealing. My husband ordered the teriyaki chicken, and it was just as bad. The chicken was rubbery, gray in color, and looked old. Combined with the watery teriyaki sauce, it made for a very unpleasant meal. This was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had in a long time. The appearance, freshness, and overall quality of the food were far below what we expected. We left extremely disappointed and will not be returning. Based on our experience today, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

This was such an unexpectedly great meal. We came for the 3-5pm "good deal" and ended up staying until the 5-7pm happy hour-- Sake Bomb was just that good. I personally ordered the: + 49er's Roll (5/5) + Salmon Roll (4/5) + Chu-Toro (6/5) + Hamachi (6/5) Oh my gosh, this place has the most amazing HH nigiris. They seemed pricey at first, but once they arrived and we tried them, all 6 of us ordered another round of nigiris. These are OMAKASE-level bites! The chu-toro and hamachi nigiris were some of the most umami, tender, and well-balanced ones I've ever had. The official rolls were so reasonable for the price of around $20 each. They all looked delicious and come with a good-sized portion, enough to supplement a full meal. Service was amazing!! Our waitress taught us how to do the sake bomb game with our drinks. This place is fantastic. Very affordable prices but high quality food. Everything on the menu is delicious. Their Happy Hour deals are why I go here so often! Especially the $2 nigiri. I suggest the salmon, butterfish (walu?) and any of the toros. Often they're out of tomago but when they have it, it's so fresh and so good. For rolls I like the 49ers but they're literally all great. The Watermelon one is really unique flavor (no rice, wrapped in thin cucumber). The vibe is casual. Service is always great. Came here for a Monday night dinner and made a reservation. This is one of the few places in SF that opens late. It can get popular so recommend getting a reservation! We got the volcano roll to share and I got the salmon don. The volcano roll was massive and definitely tasted unique but I wouldn't get it again. Salmon don was good and fish were fresh. This is my new favorite sushi restaurant in the bay area. Sake Bomb is a smaller sushi restaurant in Mission but the fish is fresh, the prices are good and the service is great. I stopped by Sake Bomb for dinner and I really enjoyed my experience. I made an online reservation but we were able to be seated early, about 20 minutes. Ended up sitting at the bar but the chairs are comfortable and you get to watch the dishes get prepared. I ordered the chef's choice nigiri, seaweed salad, and of course sake and beer. My favorite nigiri piece was the chu-toro, melt in your mouth fatty tuna. The rest of the nigiri was also very good. I think it's an under rated aspect of sushi but the rice they prepare was delicious. The nigiri platter came with a fried shrimp head that was pretty good. Also forget that a spicy tuna roll was ordered and it was one of the best spicy tuna rolls I've ever had. The server recommended the Dassai 45 sake and it paired well with the food. The service was great, attentive and a good sense of humor. Overall a great experience while being a great price in comparison to a lot of the popular omakase sushi restaurants in SF. There are daily happy hour sushi specials that I would love to take advantage of if I lived closer to the city. Worth it, worth it, worth it! read more

I've been here many times, but unfortunately my most recent visit last week was not a good experience. We ordered a sushi roll that came with very mushy avocado. I personally was fine with it and still ate the entire roll, but my wife did not enjoy the texture or taste. I politely mentioned it to the waitress and made it clear that I still enjoyed the sushi and ate the entire roll. I even asked to order another round of the same roll - but politely asked if the next order could be made with firmer avocado. Shortly after, I found out the chef was also the owner, and he unexpectedly became defensive and confrontational, insisting the avocado was fresh. I calmly explained that while it may have been fresh, my wife simply did not like the overly mushy texture because it did not feel or taste fresh to her. Despite that, he continued giving me attitude in front of other customers, which honestly felt embarrassing and unnecessary. He eventually walked outside afterward. What stood out most was that the waitress later apologized for his behavior and even mentioned that he can get grumpy at times and be difficult to approach. That made the situation even more uncomfortable. The waitress herself was amazing throughout the experience, and I still tipped her well because none of this was her fault. Unfortunately, because of the owner's unprofessional behavior and how the situation was handled, I do not plan on returning. read more

Yummy sushi! I stopped by with friends to try while we were walking around the area and I was so happy that this ended up being delicious! The highlight was the Salmon Lover Roll. The fish was so fresh and the roll was very well balanced. It paired nicely with a small amount of soy sauce. The wait staff was helpful and made recommendations for the group. Came here for happy hour on a Friday. Can't beat $1.50 oysters. They were a great size and the sauce was very flavorful. We ordered a second dozen after finishing the first. Happy hour is worth it for the oysters alone! We also got a sake, salmon lover roll, spicy tuna handroll, spicy salmon handroll, and chicken karage. Ordered a dozen of oysters and a specifically asked if the oysters were raw and plain, the waitress said yes. When the oysters came out, there was a sauce in it and I said I thought it was supposed to be plain and she said oh it comes with a sauce, but it's really good. Then I ordered unagi and it had two or more bones. I took a picture of the last two. Smh they removed the oyster and unagi nigiri and the waitress came back and told me she will have to pay for it out of her pocket. A nearby sushi spot was surprise closed, so I ended up coming by Sake Bomb and I'm glad that I did. We were seated immediately and the waitress came by quickly. The prices are good - basic rolls come in extremely cheap(tekka maki/spicy tuna) but the quality is quite good. The special roll (24th roll) was also excellent. They have a pretty extensive sake menu, but I am a cheap date when it comes to sale and went for the hot sake, which was also lovely. I love Sake Bomb! My friends and I like to come for lunch or Happy Hour. We love the lunch specials, rolls and sashimi. Out team favorite is the butterfish or escolar, which is so creamy, fresh and delicious. We order it as a sashimi appetizer or it is also part of the Sexy Roll, which is another favorite of ours. Just writing this makes my mouth water. Service is always pleasant, food comes out quickly and they are nice people. The restaurant is pretty big with a back area that can accommodate larger groups of people. There are a few lunch combos that are bento box style with cooked entrees, sand and soup; others that are two rolls served with a miso soup and nigiri lunch specials as well. I was in the mood for happy hour oysters back a few months back so decided to check Sake Bomb out. Oysters were $1.50 and were delicious. I wanted to do happy hour but upon looking at the happy hour pricing for the rolls vs the pricing for what is usually is, it's only $1 or 2 off so I opted to just go for a roll off the specials menu instead of the happy hour rolls. Tried the Sexy Girl roll, unfortunately the rice was disappointing and felt dry like it was day old rice. Scallop was good but for the price of the roll, I was expecting a lot more. My partner got the chicken katsu and it was crispy and good batter ratio but he thought the chicken was a bit dry and also was disappointed at the portion size for what he was getting which it only came with a small bowl of rice and miso soup. Maybe it was an off day, who knows? Service was friendly, and ambiance was nice. Inside, it's nicely decorated and has a welcoming vibe. We saw couples come in as well as families with young kids. Parking will be a bit tougher in the area but we got lucky with a spot a block down. read more

9/10 overall Super date spot. Good decor and definitely the best affordable sushi in the Mission at this point. All the other places are so expensive (four $). This spot has got it going on at a good price and the ambience is nice. They gifted me a cute cat bell charm (see photo) with my bill and I'm stoked to gift it. They let us idle at the table for over 3.5 hours on a less busy Saturday sipping sake and nibbling on food with no stress. Would recommend for sure. 24th roll and sake was bomb. The service was friendly and prompt, but the avocado and cucumber rolls were average, as was the miso soup that came with. The space was comfortable and the ambiance was very chill, I just wish the veggies in both rolls had been more fresh. Came on a Monday night and it was pretty busy, but they still had a few tables available. We ordered the fried baby squid, tuna hand roll and the 10pc nigiri special. Everything came out relatively quick. They forgot the ginger and wasabi, but brought it quickly after we asked about it. The fried squid was very tasty. The hand roll was wasn't bad, but the seaweed they wrapped it with was kind chewy. The nigiri was mostly good. Presentation was ok and portion size was fine, but a couple of pieces of fish were either a little mushy or tasted slightly off. Perhaps that's to be expected when having sushi on a Monday (poor planning on our part). For the price though we really couldn't complain.
