10" Hot Dog
Dave J.

Came here was it was declared a "famous" destination. Was left disappointed. Firstly, they moved everything to QR code menus, meaning you had to ask for a physical one. The famous hotdogs were a letdown --although fairly cheap at ~$5- and small; marketed at 10", see the image below for the actual volume of the hotdogs, which were very skinny. That was the cheapest thing on the menu, with a side of small fries nearly $8 and the smaller counterpart being ~$7. This menu is way overpriced. The service was alright, although we almost got skimped on the fries by the cook staff (saw the waitress ask to fill it up more). The staff were decent, although a bit short. The atmosphere was nice, had bar style dining and booths. Made you feel like an old fashioned diner. However, wasn't worth the price. If you want to come here for the "experience," save your time and money as this will leave you disappointed!

The wife and I stopped here for a quick lunch. We were able to sit at a spacious booth right away. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who brought us menus as she explained that while the menu items are the same the prices have increased slightly. We knew we wanted the famous Saint's Hot Dogs but it was good to go over the rather extensive menu. For a little place, they offer quite a few selections. We both ordered hot dogs with chili and mustard. Mine also had onions. We both order fries. Our dogs were brought over quickly and our fries were combined into one basket. The buns were toasted perfectly, and the dogs were grilled hot and browned. The chili was flavorful, the onions were fresh. The French fries were hot and cooked just the way I like them, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For something as common as the American Hot Dog, these were elevated to a higher level. So far these are my second favorite dogs. It should go without saying that we will be back but I guess I just said it anyway. Can't wait for another day of errands so that we could stop here for lunch.

Chili Dog

Yelp friend and comrade in chili dogs Kara S. recommended not long ago that I try Saint's in Southington. Today I did. Saint's has long been on my radar since it's across the street from Kettle Bagels. I know it's a Southington, CT institution. In addition to hot dogs, they serve things such as chicken, fried seafood, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, BBQ and fries. Saint's uses Martin Rosol dogs, which is one of my favorites. Saint's version of these hot dogs is long and extends off the bun an inch or two in each direction. At least one other prominent place in the area does that, but I prefer to get some bun with each bite. The hot dog was very well cooked and the bun was well grilled. Those parts of the hot dog were great for me. I ordered it with chili, mustard and onions. The chili sauce was decent, but I prefer a meatier chili sauce and the seasoning blend isn't one of my favorites in the area. In any event, Saint's has a good chili dog and it's worth checking out if you're in the area. Four Stars.

Saint's is one of those places that every home town should have. One of those restaurants where nothing changes. I've been eating here for almost 30 years and it's still the same. Good quality food, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. The place is always clean. What more can you want in a home town restaurant.

We go for 2 reasons: 1. Their hot dogs are delish! 2. So is their breakfast. Hands down best egg, cheese and kielbasa on a hard roll!!

Good food, great service, decent prices. Tastes like real home cooking. Not too many places like it in this area.

Ask the Community - Saint's Restaurant & Catering

We've been going to Saints for years and have always enjoyed their hot dogs. I believe they are Martin Rossells. We went in January and after the first bite, we ALL noticed a difference. We were wondering if you changed vendors or brands?

As the current "Duke" of Saints I'll quote the owner, "We've had the same hot dogs for 53 years" And I'll agree. I eat them quite frequently. They are so consistent.

The meal comes with french fries or onion rings. I ordered the french fries regular, though sweet potato fries were an option, Service was attentive, and with a smile, Our sodas arrived quickly after the order was placed. Within 10 minutes, our meals arrived! I received a generous portion of whole belly clams, but the clams were on the small side, and it seemed like there were clam strips in with the order. I wasn't ready to see so many strips. Lightly fried to a golden brown, , the batter was on point, seasoned perfectly The whole belly clams seemed like they were missing something tonight, I didn't really taste the ocean or that nice sea flavor in them. They were just OK. But whole bellies are whole bellies and I've never had a bad whole belly. So two whole belly meals with two sodas were $75 and change. I left $90 and change, including the tip. I love coming here as Sam the Clams is just a real honest place, not pretentious ore bougie. It's more blue collar hard hitting, with real good food. Thanks again, Sam the Clam's, see you soon!

Anthony Jack's ... it's like home, on steroids! It feels like family in here. And that's an awesome vibe. This place isn't for blue hairs only. Being I was here today for lunch, it was a younger crowd, along with children of the younger crowd. This was really nice to see Meeting great friends from Southington here for lunch, even though there are other choices, Anthony Jack's is a solid local favorite. Not only for me, but for the many. Today I was in the mood for a burger, and I ordered the $13 burger which arrived cooked medium, along with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. This was all served on a wonderful fluffy soft fresh roll. Chef chose a great roll to serve this burger on. The hamburger patty was not the frozen type cheap stuff; this was fresh ground beef, and hand formed. A quarter pound it seemed, and grilled with a nice charcoal flavor to it. It was very juicy and hit the spot. Also included with crispy well seasoned french fries and a little salad with house dressing. For $13 this was an excellent value. Our server, Brianna, was very very cheerful knowledgeable of the menu, and of course, very attentive to our needs. To say our service was perfect would be an understatement. I wish other food establishments had servers like Brianna. She's really that good. Restrooms, of course were clean, as usual. Parking was a breeze out front, but there are also many parking spaces at the rear of the restaurant and utilize the restaurant's back entrance. It was nice to come back home. And it was just as nice to return to Anthony Jack's. Anthony Jack's .. until I see you again, you left me with a smile and full. No seasonings, I rarely add salt at the restaurant , I had to do it here. Not sure how the kitchen is setup but at the window, the 2 people there, were looking in the dining room more than the kitchen so I didn't get the setup. The only good dish was the pasta and the parmigian potatoes.

Extremely disappointing experience -- not worth the drive or the money…read more We drove approximately two hours each way to dine here on Saturday, with a 6:30 p.m. reservation for the Beetlejuice room upstairs. Unfortunately, the experience was a disaster from the moment we arrived. Although we arrived about five minutes after our reservation time, we were well within the restaurant's 15-minute grace period, and our reservation was honored. However, we were seated at the top of the stairwell, outside the actual room, in an area that was freezing cold and had virtually no heat. After explaining to our waitress that we were uncomfortable and asking if we could sit somewhere warmer, we were told they would look into moving us. The waitress took our drink, appetizer, and dinner orders before telling us a different table had been found. We moved, only to be told approximately two minutes later that the seats were needed for another party. We were then sent downstairs to wait for another table, despite having already placed our entire order. After waiting another 15 minutes or so, we were escorted to our third table. This table was essentially a small, low cube that forced us to hunch over to eat. To make matters worse, when the waitress came over and asked if she could take our order, I explained that we had already been there for about an hour and had ordered everything. That's when we were informed that our original order had never even been entered. Let that sink in: We had been moved three times, waited over an hour, ordered drinks, an appetizer, and two meals, and had absolutely nothing to eat because our order was never placed. We finally ordered again. The waitress who served us was pleasant, and I want to make it clear that I don't blame her for the earlier problems. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the experience. The cheese pull-apart bread appetizer was delicious, and the lobster tail was good. Beyond that, things went downhill. I ordered a 14-ounce T-bone steak with lobster tail, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. I requested my steak medium, but the texture was extremely soft and unpleasant, almost as though it were raw. The lighting made it difficult to judge visually, but the texture alone was enough to make it unappetizing. The mashed potatoes were watery and runny, and the broccoli was honestly the best part of my meal. My girlfriend's Italian dish was so unappetizing that she managed only one or two bites. I ended up giving her my lobster tail so she would at least have something she enjoyed eating. After a four-hour round trip, spending over two hours at the restaurant, dealing with the seating chaos and an hour-long delay before we could even get our food order properly placed, we left having had a thoroughly disappointing dinner. The bill came to approximately $185 with tip. I still tipped because I didn't feel the waitress who ultimately served us was responsible for the situation. However, the overall experience was unacceptable. Between the uncomfortable seating, lack of organization, forgotten order, and disappointing food, this was nowhere near the experience we expected for the price. The bread and lobster tail were good, but two decent items don't make up for everything else that went wrong. I would not make a four-hour round trip to dine here again, and based on our experience, I cannot recommend it.

Welcome to the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021!!…read more In search of the best stuffed shrimp in the area to serve on Christmas Eve, I posted on various Facebook pages to solicit recommendations. Of course, I can't just trust strangers on Facebook, so we did what any self respecting Yelpers would do...we did a trial run of five spots over a two day period, ordering 4 stuffed shrimp from each. We sampled them plain, with lemon, butter, and cocktail sauce, critiquing the size, quality of the shrimp, taste and quality of the stuffing, and overall value for the price. With, of course, photos of both the raw starting point and the cooked final product. Gulf Shrimp was 4th in the line up, but came with numerous recommendations. Upon arrival, I was struck by the horrific rancid smell of decaying fish. Outside!! I mean I know it's a fish market, but are they throwing fish carcasses in the woods?? Upon walking in, the smell was even worse. I wanted to walk out, but we were committed. Now remember, we went to 5 fish spots in two days - none smelled anything like this. We aren't at the docks next to the fishing boats. It's in an industrial area off the highway, and there is absolutely no reason for it to smell like this. I already knew they only sold the stuffed shrimp frozen, which was a major con as I needed to cook it that night. 4 for $28, or $7 each. On the higher end of what we had paid. We decided to try 8 cooked cocktail shrimp as well, as they had some nice large ones. Their fresh seafood selection was extremely limited though. I'm not sure why...I've seen more seafood at a grocery seafood counter than at this dedicated fish market. We get it home, I have to thaw the stuffed shrimp. We decide to eat the cocktail shrimp while we wait. Of the 8, two were not properly cleaned (nasty!) so I had to do that myself. I'd be hard pressed to pay $24.99/lb for cooked/cleaned shrimp that I then have to inspect at home before serving to my guests. That was a huge miss. They were also a bit chewy. Stuffed shrimp was good in size, but the stuffing was extremely fishy to the point where my husband didn't finish his. He ate all the other shrimp in the taste off. I also was reluctant to believe they were cleaned properly after the cocktail shrimp experience. No amount of lemon, butter or cocktail sauce saved these stinkers for us. So in summary, smelly, expensive, mediocre quality. I'd skip Gulf Shrimp and try a different spot instead. We won't be back. Gulf Shrimp came in at #5 out of 5 in the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021.

Nataz in Southington has impressed me once again!…read more We hosted a company dinner here on a weekday evening, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. Management was wonderful to work with, especially when it came to rearranging the space to accommodate our group's specific needs. A special thank you to Chuck for making everything run so smoothly. They ensured everyone had what they needed and that meals were delivered promptly. Heather has served our group before, and she continues to be exceptional. She is friendly, attentive, and always goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. Every dish I tried was phenomenal. The appetizers were plentiful, and the salads, entrées, and desserts were beautifully presented and full of flavor. If you're looking for a great local restaurant with excellent service, a welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food, I highly recommend Nataz. It is way more spacious than their previous location and nicely decorated. We sat in a nice Modular Half Moon Restaurant Sofa in the back. Felt like I was looking down upon the rest of the guests having dinner. Nice table just felt a bit like we were on display however I still enjoyed as I love the style of these tables. Our waiter I think was new and definitely did not know wine. We asked for a bottle of the Merlot, which he pronounced back to us "Mer-LOT." I couldn't help but chuckle a bit when he left the table. Someone else came and opened the wine for us and when our main server came to check on us, he grazed the side of my glass and freaked, telling us the glasses are $500 each and if he breaks one, it comes out of his paycheck. Ummm what? This stuff we probably should not know! Again, I think he was new, probably not having much experience as a waiter. He definitely needs training on how to pronounce wine! Moving on to the cheese, they used to give you a cheese board with a few different cheeses. It's a bit different now. They give you whipped butter, a few pieces of cheese (last night was Cheddar), roasted red peppers, and whipped goat cheese with a touch of honey on top and some bread. Not sure if this changes/rotates at their new location. We chose not to do the raw bar or appetizer courses (fyi those are extra). For my salad, I chose the Signature Salad (forgot to take a picture of this course). This is where things went downhill for me. I asked for no apples. He said no problem. He did not tell us they ran out of the dried cranberries and caramelized nuts which to me make the whole salad. I used to love this salad at the old location. So, when telling us the specials he did say he "thinks" they had one salmon entree left, but had to check. Restaurants run out of things, and I get it, but take that salad off the menu if you're out of 2 ingredients and the customer asks for no apples. All that we got on our salads was lettuce, gorgonzola and fried potato skins. I feel like I had French fries on top of lettuce. It was awful. Also, I'm the only one that asked for no apples and my boyfriend got the same salad I got with only potato skins and lettuce and gorgonzola so clearly they were running out of things. We then saw other customers getting the same salad lacking main ingredients. For my entree, I got the Heavenly, which was supposed to have a lobster sauce. I couldn't put my finger on what the flavor of the sauce was. It was strange. It wasn't bad, it just didn't really go with the lobster. It had a brown tint to it. The manager came over after we ate and asked us how things were, and I told him about the salad and asked what the flavor in the sauce was. He told us a crab style sauce which made sense. Boyfriend had the filet. He said it wasn't Ruth's Chris good, but it was good. Mashed potatoes were very bland. Presentation was pretty bad. Dessert they get from a third party. I had the flourless chocolate cake which was the best part of the meal. Desserts are where they have improved with the new location. They used to give you petit fours style desserts, and now they give you full size desserts. It was delicious. I really want to like this place more because I like the concept of what they do. I guess on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the chef creates whatever he'd like for guests for $25 a head. Mystery meals. The manager said that's where the name "Adventures in Eating" comes from. Again, we had come here previously, and I had a problem the last time with the Branzino where the waitress didn't tell me it came as the whole fish. Servers are friendly here, they just aren't top notch. Food is ok.
