We will not drive 28 miles from home just to eat at this place. We wanted to try a new vietnamese restaurant and we've pass by saigon cafe many time and decide to give them a chance to wow our taste buds, but fail. How is this place 4 star rated is my question. read more

This place is not the same as it use to be. I had lunch today and found hair in my food. The chips they give you for your soup was stale, egg roll tasted old and drink was close to flat The manager offered to remake the food over but I couldn't wait because I had to get back to work, however; the manger didn't charge me for the meal but charged me for the soup that comes with the lunch special and for my drank which came out to close to what the meal was. The last time we ordered, they forgot my sweet & sour sauce for my chicken and had the driver bring to us but the chicken was soggy and tasteless. I keep giving this place chances but they fail every time. My co- workers and I have made up our minds and won't be back. How do you charge for something that comes with the lunch special that you fucked up. on a good note the waiter was super nice and apologetic. read more

Saigon has excellent food with generous portions. The staff is very sweet and will wait on you often. The food is delicious and flavorful! The menu is full of variety, so if you're a picky eater there is something for you! You get so much food for the price and I am always leaving with a to-go box! Great place to try out! read more

The service here was very good but the food was awful. The pad Thai had a very ketchup flavor no spice. The sczheuan beef was awful the beef had the consistency of canned cat food and the flavor of canned beef gravy with salt no spice or flavor very blan . The fried rice was so bad I spit it back out into my napkin. I was severely disappointed in the food here. The sweet tea was not sweet and too watered down. This place made me feel sick. read more

"Come on Karen, it's good for this area." Having been chastised for my critique while at the table eating here, I will be honest... this place isn't where I would choose to have pho or malay first. However, if you live here, this is where you should choose to have your pho or malay. So I am giving it a fair rating only because the other pho restaurant choices around this area are.... well I don't have anything nice to say. So eat here but take heed to the following: I took my dad here because the man loves pho. Something we share together I suppose. Both my folks ordered pho. The broth was simplistic but will get the job done. The noodles were fine. The spring rolls were small and the shrimp were not seasoned at all. You will probably need to season the peanut sauce yourself. $3.99 for 3 - edible. I did like the wide variety on the menu. So I ordered the roti canai off the Malaysian fare. It had chicken and taters mixed with the curry. The actual roti was not flaky, but a bit dense. Perhaps that's the way you like it. Curry was very oily right off the top but very well seasoned. I have some curry to go and it's an easy fix I suppose to scoop the oil right off the top before reheating? Pho is my phavorite and I am probably the most critical on this genre. I don't care what area you are in - delicious food is delicious food. This passes as edible Asian fare at a moderately reasonable price as well. I'd personally rather eat at Fuddruckers or Applebees (maybe even one of these mega buffets) as not to be disappointed by anymore pho joints next time I'm in town but you may want to eat here if you don't want to drive to Austin for pho - it's the best around? read more

Saigon Cafe? More like Vietnom-noms! The only place, to my knowledge, to get pho noodles in Temple. The charcoal pork with egg roll is my favorite- pretty pho-king awesome, in fact. The restaurant is clean and has a nice ambiance. The staff are friendly and patient while you peruse the large menu. Hands down the best Asian food in Temple and reasonably priced, as well. I have eaten here several times, all for lunch. I love the rice noodle(vermicelli) dishes otherwise known as "bun". It's easy, it's fresh and it is flavorful. Difficult to screw up, really. This restaurant does get busy during lunch but they have been pretty quick with the service. I have had the beef, pork, eggroll and shrimp versions of the "bun" and I like them all. Price is really low as well. No drawbacks here. If you enjoy Vietnamese or other Asian cuisine, this place should be a stop on your tour of local restaurants. read more

Here in Temple on a business trip and wanted to eat something different. Yelped Asian cuisine and discovered Saigon Cafe. I was definitely glad I did! I had the spring rolls that were fresh, crisp, and delicious with a great peanut sauce for dipping. The bun (BV7) was also extremely fresh with a bed of crispy lettuce, sprouts, and cucumber and perfect vermicelli topped with grilled shrimp, BBQ pork, and egg roll. The fish sauce was also light and very flavorful. Prices were reasonable at 3.99 for the spring roll and 7.99 for the bun entree. I will definitely go back the next time I am in town! read more

It was just okay. The pho was subpar; almost flavorless and the chicken was mushy. Plus, the basil and cilantro they served us had mildew all over them and they don't have lime. Excellent service. But that's the only nice thing I can say about it. My friend and I had the fried vermicelli and mango chicken. The food was extremely salty, and this was even after we asked them to go easy on the soy sauce. The sauce on the mango chicken was cloyingly sweet and difficult to eat. I picked out the vegetables and chicken out of the sauce and at them that way. I wanted to like the place, I really did, because everyone was so nice. However, the food was just terrible. read more

This is my first trip to Temple and I was desperate for a good restaurant..so thank you, yelpers for the reviews. The owner helped me pick a dish that was gluten free and without MSG(also has gluten). I chose the spicy shrimp with vegetables in a black bean garlic sauce. It was incredibly delicious and tasty. The green bell peppers tasted so fresh. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The owner came by to see how my meal was, and he was very friendly. The service was great... Best Asian food I've had since I moved to the area over a year ago. It's a 30 minute drive for me and worth every minute. Appetizers were Vietnamese Egg Rolls and Hot Chicken Wings. Both came out of the kitchen quickly, piping hot and delicious. Then came the Pho which I rank among the best I have eaten. Also had Szechuan Beef which was flavorful and tender and the vegetables were fresh and cooked crisp. Hot and sour soup was excellent. The staff was efficient and very pleasant, restaurant very clean. I will definitely recommend and return to try some of the other items on their large menu. Well done. read more

Bottom line: large portions at Saigon Cafe. You will have leftovers. The food is delicious! The charbroiled meats are fantastic. The Saigon egg roll appetizers are not from H-E-B, so try them! My favorite Asian restaurant near my home or office. I probably eat there once or twice per month. One reason is that they have a large and varied menu, including Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, and Thai. Lots and lots of choices here. Some of my favorites are the Beef Rendang, Chicken Pad Thai, and Kung Pao Chicken. I also remember at least one of the other Thai or Malaysian curries being very good, but it has been quite a while since I've had one of those. Their Pad Thai may be the best I've ever had, and I've had Pad Thai at a lot of places. My wife usually gets the sweet and sour chicken, which is also pretty good - the sauce being much better IMHO than the candy-tasting jelly crap you find at the majority of Chinese take out joints. She also loves the veggie egg rolls. Things we've not liked quite a much (thus 4-star rather than 5-star): * while the broth is fine in the wonton soup, the wontons are empty (essentially just large triangle-shaped noodles); I still get it but I would strongly prefer that it have just a bit of chicken. I believe a deluxe version is also available that has shrimp and onions, but that is a little more involved and expensive than I'm looking for in a starter. * I gave up on the fantail shrimp some time ago as they were consistently WAYYY overfried * The char-grilled meats seen in many of their dishes have frequently been overly cooked and dried out. But don't let the not-so-great disway you from trying the restaurant. There are some fantastic options available. The few times I've dined in, the service has been fine. That said, we usually get take out. They are extremely fast at getting orders together; food is generally ready for pick-up 5-10 minutes after placing your order. Fairly low prices coupled with the good food make this place a great value, also. read more

I would say this place was absolutely fantastic the first time eatting here unfortunately the second visit was not as good. The service was excellent just the food didn't taste as good as previously. Wife ordered a chinese beef dish and the meat tasted like dog food. The Pho was too salty although the Pho I ordered was well-done flank and round steak which turned out good as not as salty as my wife's bowl but not nearly as good as my first visit. The meals come out extremely fast! I also ordered Tso's chicken and it seemed over cooked slightly and again, not as delicious as my first visit. read more

1st time I went. Not sure if they were in a rush to make the pad Thai, but it tasted like hot sauce and peanut. The noodles are different. Can't really say if this place is good or not. Well I was throughly pleased with my order of Mala shrimp. Wonderfully flavorful and a tad spicy. Just the way I like it. Oh and I don't like mushrooms so they didn't add them! This place is excellent! I was so happy to hear that a Vietnamese restaurant was in Temple, as we are relocating from Providence, RI. While RI is not a mecca of great Vietnamese food, there are some places that satisfy my cravings. Saigon Cafe is better than any of them! We ordered food to be delivered to our hotel room and it was quick, inexpensive, and bountiful. We had the fresh spring rolls (known to me as nime chow), the fried dumplings, a steamed broccoli and asparagus dish, kung pao chicken (husband) and vermicelli with grilled beef and shrimp (me). The vermicelli was the standout for me - tender charred beef and briny grilled shrimp over vermicelli with cucumber and beansprouts. I could have eaten hotel takeout from Saigon Cafe every night of our stay! Can't wait to move! read more

All of the dishes our party ordered were sauced to heavily, but the portions were somewhat large for one person. For the price, and considering it's location, the food was good. You know your dining experience is going to be great when they turn on the music when you walk in. Like a VIP! I came at an odd hour- like 3pm - so naturally I was the only guest. The café is very large and can seat plenty of people. Immediately I was seated in a booth next to the window. I had a Vietnamese coffee and a chargrilled pork plate. The coffee was a little diluted, possibly from too much ice in the glass, but was just the right amount of sweetness. Chargrilled pork plate was huge. In my solitary dining time, the server came by to chat with me as it was obvious I was a visitor to the town. Summary: This is a pretty solid place in town. We had the most AMAZING experience. Let me start by saying the food was delicious and it came really fast. Me and my husband were staring at a fridge wondering how we were going to get it off his truck. The delivery driver, Dennis, offered his help and got the fridge off the truck and in the house for us! Words cannot express our gratitude as we even had to try three doors to be able to even get it in the house. After this whole fiasco, our food was still hot!!! Amazing. A while ago I left a pretty good review. I come here every couple months because it is a 1.5 hour drive to any other pho restaurant. So, if you live in the area this is the place to go for Asian food. However, I came here yesterday (12APR) and I my experience with the pho wasn't as great as it has been. I usually love their pho because it has pretty good flavor for the price and close proximity. Keep in mind if you are a pho lover, that this place will probably only be about midway in your list. But since it is much shorter than a drive to Austin or Fort Worth I would say it is worthwhile. However the Saigon egg rolls are pretty awesome. I still think these are up there in my top 5 places for egg / spring rolls. read more

I have to say Saigon Cafe is now the best place to go for Chinese in Temple. My wife and I have been 4 or 5 times now. Highly recommended are the sesame chicken and any of the fried rice combinations. Always quick and hospitable service, for a great price. The egg drop soup is hit or miss, but for food, we haven't gone wrong thus far. If you live around here, you know good good options are limited. For Chinese, make it Saigon Cafe. read more
