One dish in particular you should try is their Bánh xèo! So many places make this dish yet fail so hard, why? Because it seldom comes out crispy. Saigon Kitchen's will not disappoint, so crispy and it overflows with shrimp and bean sprouts. They serve it with plenty of lettuce and herbs to make it into an entire meal. So dang good! I've only eaten here twice and one of the times was not by my choice. The food isn't awful, but it's not superb by my standards either. When it comes to pho, I want it to be amazing purely as it is - no need to add hoisin sauce or Sriracha. I also expect the aroma of the broth to hit me when I enter the restaurant as an indication that the broth has been simmering, but I didn't get any of that here. I ordered the crab & cream cheese puffs (which shouldn't be available at a Vietnamese restaurant, but this appetizer is everywhere), pho with rare steak and flank, and a taro smoothie. The appetizer was good, but I think it's a hard dish to fail at. The pho wasn't the most flavorful and for a medium size, the amount of meat and noodles was inadequate. I will never order the taro smoothie again - it tasted terrible and wasn't even sweet. I was so disappointed by that drink and wanted to toss it, which isn't something I do often because I hate to waste, but I still ended up forcing myself to finish it. We were a party of 7 and they had us individually come to the register to pay for our meal, which I appreciated because splitting one check 7 ways would have been a nightmare. We moved to Concord about 6 months ago. Saigon Bistro has quickly become one of our "go to" spots for take out for a few reasons. 1) The food is consistent in taste 2) the portions are huge 3) the prices are reasonable. My husband and I both love the Pork Vermicelli bowl and have recently been ordering 1 and sharing it; we are never left hungry. One bowl gives me two meals (assuming I portion it out before I dig in.....) The egg rolls are a delicious appetizer and we frequently order extra, especially if we are sharing a bowl. These were some of the best spring rolls and Bahn mi's we've ever had! tofu spring rolls had some sort of sautéed/fried coconut pieces (I think) and mint as well, which really set them apart! Oh man, this place is really overrated. With over 500 reviews and a 4-star rating, I really expected more. Then again, this is freaking Concord, so go figure. Look, the fact that the word "pho" and that no "number" is in their business name makes this place lose any authenticity instantly. Then again, I should have known better when they decided to name their restaurant a freaking bistro. The wife and I ordered the pho tai (#32), grilled beef with egg roll vermicelli (#62), and the banh xeo (#69). Sadly, when the pho and the obligatory side dish of Vietnamese veggies/herbs came out I instantly knew that we were in for suckage. You see, when I do not see the delightfully pungent "tia to" (tastes kind of like the Japanese shiso leaf), I already know that the pho is probably not going to taste legit. Such a shame because the Ranch 99 supermarket around the corner carries a ton of Vietnamese herbs. And, when I sipped the broth it was indeed underwhelming. The grilled beef was chewy and the egg roll was just a deep-fried egg roll that tasted pre-cooked. This dish was really not worth $8.50 for three pieces of sinewy beef, a limp egg roll, and a whole bunch of cold noodles. The banh xeo (Vietamese crepe) was okay, but really greasy... too much PAM or non-stick butter in my opinion. I mean, I really wanted to like the dish because it was numbered 69... Still, this dish was the most edible of the three... only because we doused it with hot sauce... Additionally, the interior of Saigon Bistro was this weird collection of dark-tone furniture with hanging lamps that looked straight out of an Ikea catalogue. Furthermore, the spray tan orange paint combined with the mustardy yellow paint created an unwelcoming environment that had to have been painted by a colorblind and/or bipolar painter. And at the end of the day, we just did not like Saigon Bistro because "meh, we've experienced better!" I guess the only place to get a good bowl of pho in NorCal is in the City... Also, why doesn't any Vietnamese restaurant in NorCal have the pickled sliced jalapeños in vinegar side condiment? SMH... I miss you Fountain Valley 637 (pager code)... Pho realz. read more

This is a comfy strip mall restaurant near Fry's Electronics. I can't remember if I've been here before, since I've previously lived in the East Bay. Inside this low lit restaurant (they really are going for the bistro feel, I guess!) lies dishes of great value Vietnamese food. But in all honesty, I've had much tastier Vietnamese food in SF, but it's nice to see that this place is still around after 10+ years. Get the fresh spring rolls with shrimp and pork, deep fried lemongrass tofu (although I hardly tasted any lemongrass flavor) and any of the rice dishes. Just know that they'll fry your egg to a crisp so you wouldn't get any oozy egg yolk that goes so well on top of rice. Pho is decent and the prices are so cheap. Wow. I went there for a bbq pork sandwich because the place over near food maxx is now closed on Wednesdays. What a mistake. Things have gone way down hill. The place smells when you walk in because it's really dirty. It used to be clean with nice decore but i guess that was when it was new. The bread is the reason I stopped by to complain. The roll the sandwich came on must be atleast 3 days old. Maybe 4. Its terrible. I'm starved but now I'm irritated. How hard is it to use bread that is not stale? You make food professionally. Judging from the reviews, I thought I'd have a little "better than mediocre" experience here. The place itself is nice and cozy. But it tasted just like any other Vietnamese restaurant I've been to in the area. I ordered the Shrimp & Egg Roll Vermicelli (as is my regular dish) and it was decent. I enjoyed it. The shrimp were tasty and egg rolls crispy. I seemed to have a lot of vermicelli left over, which filled me up. Other than that, it didn't seem to really stand out among other local Vietnamese places. I suppose the only real distinction this place has against other local Vietnamese restaurants is that they sell Banh-Mi sandwiches. I decided to order one to-go just so I was able to try it and I'm glad I did, because they were pretty good! I'm not a big meat-eater so I decided on the Fish Patty, which was good in the sandwich. The baguette they use on the sandwich is SO crispy and fluffy--everything I love about a damn good baguette! And the fresh vegetables and sauce on the inside were typical and tasty. I figure that if you go here, the only thing worth getting here (as compared to other local Vietnamese spots) is the banh-mi sandwich. For $5 I was pleasantly satisfied. As for the service, I was a little thrown off because I'm used to having the workers come by the table to refill waters and ask if we were okay, but this place didn't. I've been getting off work pretty late these days and Saigon Bistro is willing to stay open a little after closing hours so last minute pho fanatics, like me, can satisfy our cravings! My boss comes here several times a week and they know her order by heart. Hoping to achieve elite status as well! I've been sticking with a regular #33: Beef Noodle Soup with Sliced Steak and Well-done Brisket and I always ask for extra bean sprouts. ($6.95) Why? Because I want to eat and drink every bit of this heavenly order without having to get extra noodles and add more muffin top to my 'carb-overload' belly. The pho to-go is just as great. I even bought a thermal bowl JUST to eat pho to-go. The service is also very speedy and responsive. After placing an order, the food comes out within 10 minutes or less. The broth is hearty and soothing. Doesn't need my usual douse of sriracha and hoisin but I add spice just because I love burning my insides. Saigon Bistro gets 5 stars across the board from me. I've been coming to this location for about 4 years now and it has been the best pho I have had in the Concord area. They have plenty of parking infront which is 20 min parking and usually your never really there more than 30 mins because they are so quick at serving. Once you enter restrooms are to the right down the hallway which are always clean and well maintained. They have about 5 people on the floor and they greet you and seat you right when you come in. They also do take out which takes about 10 minutes to complete. The broth here is so tasty, I love garlic and they use a lot of it as well as oinions. I usually get the #46 won ton pho or the basic chicken pho which I think is #42. Never once has the flavor changed or portions. The appetizers are really good especially the chicken wings and spring rolls. If you love pho I definitely would recommend coming here. read more

My Gf ordered the beef combo pho and I got the sea food combo with egg noodle both medium size. Medium seemed like a small size with so little few pieces of meat and sea food in the bowl. My gf's order had more noodles than meat, and for my seafood pieces I can actually count how many I had. 2 pieces of calamari, 2 pieces of shrimp, 6 pieces of shrimp cake, and 2 pieces of fish ball. Total of a size SMALL order. The fresh spring roll didn't smell fresh! The shrimp tasted old and had that fishy smell to it! We didn't finish it. My strawberry boba tasted TOO sweet. It taste more like sugar than strawberry. So very disappointed, my gf and I used to come here back then. We heard it's a new ownership and we've noticed it before we even found out! I was pleasantly surprised SB reopened. My spouse and I used to come here frequently for the pho, fresh rolls, and crispy Saigon crepe which were all delicious. This time we ordered the grilled pork banh mi. It was delicious and beautiful. The pickled daikon and carrots were fresh, tasty and crunchy. Came here for dinner with family. Very clean establishment but no air conditioning. Shared parking lot inside a big plaza. We made reservations so seating wasn't too bad. They have 2 tvs on both sides of the restaurant. They got crowded as time went by. We were not acknowledged until about 10 minutes after sitting down. There was this waitress who was bussing tables all around us, but avoided eye contact with us and ignored our need to order. Finally, another waiter saw us and took our order. He repeated the order after everyone ordered which was a nice confirmation. Their taro smoothie with tapioca was delicious. Their water tasted like tap. Although I won't be able to review everything we ordered, all their food was delicious. If you were ordering takeout bc you didn't want to cook, this is not the place for you. I ordered pho got home and realized my steak was raw so I called and they said that's how it comes.... I usually sit down to eat pho but I've gotten it a few times as takeout and never seen that. I wouldn't have ordered take out if I wanted to cook. I heard that there was a sandwich place nearby and I went to check it out. I didn't know what to expect but I definitely did not expect a small bone to be in my beef sandwich. The bone was small enough for you to think it was something else but it was also big enough for it to get stuck in your throat . If my children encountered the bone then they probably would have swallowed it not knowing what it would be and it would have gotten stuck in their throats.
