I was eating out with my partner and my parents. We wanted Vietnamese food, so we went to this place to try. I have not been here before but it looks cozy. There is a lot of parking since it is in the Safeway shopping center in Downton PH. We were sat right away and looking at the menu, a lot of the dishes felt more modern than traditional (when I compare it to other Vietnamese restaurants I go to). Decided to go with my comfort dish, which is Grilled Pork Rice Plate. Grilled Pork Rice Plate: I opted for brown rice for a healthier approach. The pork was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. It was also not dry and had a good amount of flavor to it. It sat on a bed of lettuce, which gave it a nice presentation. Overall, a simple dish which I thoroughly enjoyed and had leftovers after. Took the fam to Pho Viet a couple times, and we all enjoyed it. The quality of the meats in the pho was noticeably higher quality than a lot of pho we've had, which justifies some of its higher price points. Thai tea was solid. For appetizers, we tried their crispy rolls. The husband couldn't eat these because they had some shrimp in them, but more for the kids and me. Came with a side of fish sauce, and overall was pretty tasty. My son isn't too big on pho, so he tried a pork chop plate and the garlic noodles. He said both were good. He ate it all, so actions match his words there. My daughter mentioned the chicken pho she had contained a lot of chicken and she likes it that way. She also noticed the better quality of meat and bigger portions. Their special pho is an XL size and comes with the shortrib on the bone. I need to come back here very hungry to devour that or at least split that and other stuff with a friend. I've had their other beef pho, and they were good. Def good quality beef. There was a time where I wanted a certain combo without the meatballs and requested they added more of their tendon and tripe instead, but it seems they just took out the meatballs since there were just a couple pieces of tendon in there. sorry, but serving lukewarm pho and fried egg rolls within 3 minutes of ordering just doesn't make sense to me. It wasn't even busy. Maybe they were trying to get us out quickly before the dinner rush. We ordered egg rolls, and 4 bowls of pho. The 4 bowls, showed up way too quickly right after we ordered. Of course I asked for hot soup to add and all it did was dilute the soup and it was still lukewarm with even less flavor. then the egg rolls showed up and it tasted old. Bad experience all around. I asked for ice water and got a glass with no ice that tasted like it came straight from the sink. That pretty much set the tone. The food just wasn't good, and it didn't feel authentic. The meats in the dishes seemed off and not what you'd expect. Maybe it works for non-Asian customers, but for me it was a miss. The tables near the walls do feel a bit tight compared to the middle tables. Service was quick and attentive. Food was good for what I ordered. I got the Com Ga Roti but here they call it Five Spice Chicken over Rice. The plate itself is $19.49 It is 2 quarter legs, fried to golden brown, with tomato rice (extra charge of $1.50) and side of veggies. It is a very filling meal and good for post workouts. My family also got Bun Bo Bue ($19.49) and Vermicelli with Grilled Pork ($16.75). The Vermicelli with Grilled Pork was okay. Lots of pork to go with the noodles and veggies. Arrived around 6pm to meet up with a friend that wasn't feeling well. pho always makes me feel better when I'm down so I found Pho Viet on Yelp and away we went!:) Only 2 super nice servers. Place is small and quaint. Dimmed yellow light, perfect for my post-migraines. ~15 tables total about 70% full. By the time we were leaving around 7:30pm all tables were needing to be bused and they had 3 groups waiting to be seated. We were never checked on if everything was ok for refills on water, tea, napkins, order more--nothing. My friend and I thought the pho was decent enough. Really had high hopes for this place based on the reviews and pics! The good: food taste and portion sizes were ok. You can tell the quality of the ingredients is better than your usual pho spot. The broth was clean and flavorful and the rice noodles had a nice texture. The bad: Found a hair in the pho- told the server and she didn't really do anything about it. No offer to exchange the bowl for another, refund, etc. Had to keep flagging her down for service- water refills, napkins, extra bowl, etc. Bathroom was absolutely filthy and I had to let the staff know to clean it up. There was no AC and it was a hot day in Walnut Creek so we were sweating eating our lunch. Also prices are on the higher side. Maybe it was a bad day and they're still working out some kinks. I went here for lunch today and I must say that I am impressed! Having started eating pho down in the South Bay (San Jose area) which has a plentiful variety of high quality restaurants serving pho; I have been looking to find a place in the East Bay that meets the same standards I became accustomed to. This place had everything I could wish for in a Vietnamese restaurant. The crispy egg rolls were served hot, crispy, and loaded with flavor. I ordered the seafood noodle soup and the flavor and fresh ingredients were perfectly prepared. The service was quick AND we got our iced teas and water refilled quickly (nice touch)! A steaming bowl of pho is a great meal to start the weekend. Look no further than Pho Viet for such a hearty bowl. Tucked into the corner of the shopping mall, Pho Viet looked modest from the outside. But the place seemed to expand as I stepped through the door. The restaurant was packed with families, couples on dates, and people going out to grab dinner. The place had a casual, familiar feel to it. "Sit wherever you like," the waiter said. I was given a glass of ice water. I felt adventurous; I ordered a bowl of pho with filet mignon, brisket, beef tendon, tripe, and beef balls. Soon my bowl of pho arrived, steam rising off the top like a refreshing hot spring. I also was served a heaping plate of basil, sprouts, cilantro, and other herbs for taste. I tossed the herbs into the bowl, tucked them under the noodles, and waited for the broth to finish cooking the meats. The generous amount of rice noodles impressed me. I slurped up the tender noodles with delicious bites of flank and brisket. The beef tendon was chewy like jelly, and the tripe spongy, with delicate flavor. I enjoyed biting into the springy, bouncy beef balls too. The beef broth was well-seasoned with onion, scallion, star anise, and other herbs. I've been craving Pho lately, so I got my choice of lunch with hubby since tomorrow is my birthday and he has to do what I want :) The gentleman that greeted us was all smiles and super friendly! Pho Viet is a cozy Vietnamese restaurant located in the Contra Costa plaza next to Safeway, Habana Express and Milk Tea Lab. We came in as a party of 5 and the owner was lovely. He made it a point to seat us right away and put several tables together to accommodate us, as the restaurant space is small. We ordered the Wonton Soup, the Special Rice Plate with chicken, grilled pork chop, grilled shrimp and veggies, the Pho with Filet Mignon and Meatballs, and the Wok Tossed Beef Steak Cubes. Everything was so delicious and fresh and the perfect meal on a cold night. We had such a positive dining experience at Pho Viet, hoping to come back this weekend. Thank you! I owe this place an apology. I came here and ate in-person, and I understand now why people love it here. I ordered the spring roll and the #10, which is the same order as what I bought my first time here. The broth tasted a million times better fresh here than me taking the food home and then reheating it. One gripe I had last time was the crushed peanuts and peanut sauce were separated, but eating it fresh made so much more sense. The sauce had a richness to it that I just couldn't get enough of. The broth was incredibly rich and flavorful. The brisket was super thin but fatty at the same time. Eating here in-person was better than takeout. I came around 2 or 3 PM, so the place wasn't too busy. It was just myself, two other tables, and one or two employees on a lunch break, so it was pretty quiet. I feel bad giving a somewhat negative review for this restaurant as I think the owners (husband and wife) are very nice people and the food there is very good however, the service is terrible! The younger server makes me and my husband feel so unwelcome. Never says more than she needs to, doesn't smile - fine but she gives us stink face when we ask her for basics like refills on water or the check. I am usually a generous tipper, I so rarely give anything less that 20% but I do here when I'm being served by her. First time she waited on us I chalked it up to her having a bad day and left her a 20% tip. Next couple times I gave her 2 dollars. There are plenty of other Vietnamese restaurants around. I choose to go to pho viet bc of the warm service from the owners previously but the last 3 times I've visited, I've questioned why it is I still eat there. read more

Food: Their garlic noodles got a great appetizing look overall. I loved the finishing touches and the garnishes they sprinkled over the noodles. And I would have to say that the flavor was quite good. The garlic definitely came through. However, it was too bad that they did not use Asian-style egg noodles, but instead they opted for linguine noodles. I've seen restaurants using linguine pasta as their base noodles to make garlic noodles and that's acceptable, but if they chose to do that, I would expect the noodles to be cooked perfectly (they would need to still retain some bounciness and texture). However, the noodles on my plate felt like way overcooked linguine, so I was not a big fan. With that said, my fried chicken was deep-fried and cooked to perfection with deliciously crispy skin, although I did not get a lot of the 5 spice flavor that was promised based on the dish's name. We also tried their grilled beef garlic noodles, and the beef was very well seasoned and tender. I loved the delicate balance between sweet and savory in the seasoning. I also appreciated some greens on my plate to go with my carbs and protein. However, what looked like simple plain shredded lettuce on my plate turned out to be a fully-dressed side salad with a slight tangy flavor profile, which I personally thought did not go really well with the garlic noodles. I think some plain boiled broccoli cuts would've done a better job, imho. So overall there were a few misses in my opinion with this dish. And with those misses it was hard to overlook the price point of almost $17. I would expect to pay no more than $15 for the quality of the food that was served to me. Service: Staff were nice and friendly, and service was relatively quick. Ambiance: The restaurant on the inside looked clean and tidy. It looked newly renovated and nice. I go to this place often and always order the shrimp vermicelli noodles. The shrimps skewers are covered in an addicting honey sauce that will leave you wanting more! Ambiance is also very warm and inviting. Great place to chill with friend and family! The beef pho is also really tasty but general critique every visit is that proportions are inconsistent.
