Bad experience all around. I asked for ice water and got a glass with no ice that tasted like it came straight from the sink. That pretty much set the tone. The food just wasn't good, and it didn't feel authentic. The meats in the dishes seemed off and not what you'd expect. Maybe it works for non-Asian customers, but for me it was a miss. Bun bo hue was not good and the pho ga tasted off. What really sealed it was the service. When I didn't leave an 18% tip, the server gave a rude smirk that felt completely unprofessional. This restaurant is among the many other restaurants in the plaza. There is plenty of parking spaces. The inside looks small but spacious at the same time. The tables near the walls do feel a bit tight compared to the middle tables. Service was quick and attentive. Food was good for what I ordered. I got the Com Ga Roti but here they call it Five Spice Chicken over Rice. The plate itself is $19.49 It is 2 quarter legs, fried to golden brown, with tomato rice (extra charge of $1.50) and side of veggies. It is a very filling meal and good for post workouts. My family also got Bun Bo Bue ($19.49) and Vermicelli with Grilled Pork ($16.75). The Vermicelli with Grilled Pork was okay. Lots of pork to go with the noodles and veggies. Not the best of the best but we were in the area, it was freezing, so it was a convenient choice. 5/5 #12 Seafood Pho (no mussels) Full disclosure, my friend is not Yelp Elite and goes to IHOP and chain restaurants of the sort. Looks like it was a bit older, not super clean and fresh, but that's OK. 3/5 Bathroom Wasn't particularly well decorated nor modern aesthetic at all. Really had high hopes for this place based on the reviews and pics! The good: food taste and portion sizes were ok. You can tell the quality of the ingredients is better than your usual pho spot. The broth was clean and flavorful and the rice noodles had a nice texture. The bad: Found a hair in the pho- told the server and she didn't really do anything about it. No offer to exchange the bowl for another, refund, etc. Had to keep flagging her down for service- water refills, napkins, extra bowl, etc. Bathroom was absolutely filthy and I had to let the staff know to clean it up. There was no AC and it was a hot day in Walnut Creek so we were sweating eating our lunch. Also prices are on the higher side. Maybe it was a bad day and they're still working out some kinks. A great spot for amazing Vietnamese food. The rice plates are outstanding--we're huge fans of the cubed beef. It was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender. I went here for lunch today and I must say that I am impressed! Having started eating pho down in the South Bay (San Jose area) which has a plentiful variety of high quality restaurants serving pho; I have been looking to find a place in the East Bay that meets the same standards I became accustomed to. This place had everything I could wish for in a Vietnamese restaurant. The crispy egg rolls were served hot, crispy, and loaded with flavor. I ordered the seafood noodle soup and the flavor and fresh ingredients were perfectly prepared. The service was quick AND we got our iced teas and water refilled quickly (nice touch)! Tucked into the corner of the shopping mall, Pho Viet looked modest from the outside. But the place seemed to expand as I stepped through the door. The restaurant was packed with families, couples on dates, and people going out to grab dinner. The place had a casual, familiar feel to it. "Sit wherever you like," the waiter said. I was given a glass of ice water. I felt adventurous; I ordered a bowl of pho with filet mignon, brisket, beef tendon, tripe, and beef balls. Soon my bowl of pho arrived, steam rising off the top like a refreshing hot spring. I also was served a heaping plate of basil, sprouts, cilantro, and other herbs for taste. I tossed the herbs into the bowl, tucked them under the noodles, and waited for the broth to finish cooking the meats. The generous amount of rice noodles impressed me. I slurped up the tender noodles with delicious bites of flank and brisket. The beef tendon was chewy like jelly, and the tripe spongy, with delicate flavor. I enjoyed biting into the springy, bouncy beef balls too. The beef broth was well-seasoned with onion, scallion, star anise, and other herbs. I've been craving Pho lately, so I got my choice of lunch with hubby since tomorrow is my birthday and he has to do what I want :) The gentleman that greeted us was all smiles and super friendly! Pho Viet is a cozy Vietnamese restaurant located in the Contra Costa plaza next to Safeway, Habana Express and Milk Tea Lab. We came in as a party of 5 and the owner was lovely. He made it a point to seat us right away and put several tables together to accommodate us, as the restaurant space is small. We ordered the Wonton Soup, the Special Rice Plate with chicken, grilled pork chop, grilled shrimp and veggies, the Pho with Filet Mignon and Meatballs, and the Wok Tossed Beef Steak Cubes. We got #9s there is only 1 size available so it was pretty big but broth wasn't as flavorful as other places. I owe this place an apology. I came here and ate in-person, and I understand now why people love it here. I ordered the spring roll and the #10, which is the same order as what I bought my first time here. The broth tasted a million times better fresh here than me taking the food home and then reheating it. One gripe I had last time was the crushed peanuts and peanut sauce were separated, but eating it fresh made so much more sense. The sauce had a richness to it that I just couldn't get enough of. The broth was incredibly rich and flavorful. The brisket was super thin but fatty at the same time. Eating here in-person was better than takeout. I came around 2 or 3 PM, so the place wasn't too busy. It was just myself, two other tables, and one or two employees on a lunch break, so it was pretty quiet. Food: Their garlic noodles got a great appetizing look overall. I loved the finishing touches and the garnishes they sprinkled over the noodles. And I would have to say that the flavor was quite good. The garlic definitely came through. However, it was too bad that they did not use Asian-style egg noodles, but instead they opted for linguine noodles. I've seen restaurants using linguine pasta as their base noodles to make garlic noodles and that's acceptable, but if they chose to do that, I would expect the noodles to be cooked perfectly (they would need to still retain some bounciness and texture). However, the noodles on my plate felt like way overcooked linguine, so I was not a big fan. With that said, my fried chicken was deep-fried and cooked to perfection with deliciously crispy skin, although I did not get a lot of the 5 spice flavor that was promised based on the dish's name. We also tried their grilled beef garlic noodles, and the beef was very well seasoned and tender. I loved the delicate balance between sweet and savory in the seasoning. I also appreciated some greens on my plate to go with my carbs and protein. However, what looked like simple plain shredded lettuce on my plate turned out to be a fully-dressed side salad with a slight tangy flavor profile, which I personally thought did not go really well with the garlic noodles. I think some plain boiled broccoli cuts would've done a better job, imho. So overall there were a few misses in my opinion with this dish. And with those misses it was hard to overlook the price point of almost $17. I would expect to pay no more than $15 for the quality of the food that was served to me. Service: Staff were nice and friendly, and service was relatively quick. Ambiance: The restaurant on the inside looked clean and tidy. It looked newly renovated and nice. Stiff competition for Pho supremacy here at Contra Costa boulevard. With Pho Viet being introduced to us by my sister-in-law, there are now 3 Pho restaurants that I can recall within just a few spitting distance form each other. No Beef Stew in their menu if I can remember, so I opted to get their Garlic Noodles with Beef. The rest of our party got the usual combination Pho, Spring Rolls, and some chose what it seems to be Pho Viet's flagship, Bun Bo Hue. Service was pretty quick. The Spring Rolls were good and proper. The Pho had a good soup flavor. And that goes the same with the Bun Bo Hue. But where's the ham hocks? In lieu of the hocks where some pork belly I think. Bun Bo Hue is not particularly of my choosing, but if it were I would be disappointed if ham hocks where non-existent. I know my wife was. The garlic noodle was just okay: it lacks the gut-punching pungent 'ness of other restaurants. I commend them though for their chili oil, it sure does have a kick that I have to dial down the serving a bit. Pho game along Contra Costa blvd is pretty competitive.
