This seems like the beacon of hope for Williams. It has a Starbucks inside, fresh food, friendly employees, and everything looks new and organized. It's a contrast from the hand-written signage throughout town to this 21st century supermarket. They had quality organic foods, fresh meats, and about every name brand product you could expect. The enormous contrast between the town and this store makes this store only more impressive. I recommend visiting here for snacks if you're planning a trip to the Canyon or just hungry for the night. Even if you just want some coffee or some semblance of a populated town, come visit this Safeway. read more

We are traveling to and from the Grand Canyon this week and went to Safeway to find something for dinner at the deli. It was 6:00 pm. Dinner time. But the meat-cutting-thing-a-ma-bob was closed so we couldn't get a sandwich or sub. There were no pre-made ones either. We got a hot chicken pot pie for $5 that was ok. Lots of cut up fresh fruit too. Good spot for travelers. read more

SUPER impressed with this Safeway! Only Starbucks in town - yay for coffee!! - and the entire store is clean and well stocked for being in the middle of no where. Where they really shine is the pharmacy. The two female pharmacy staff who were working in the morning on Saturday 5/24 are rock stars. We were traveling from out of town when my daughter got sick. Our pediatrician called in 2 prescriptions, and they went out of their way to get it ready quickly. They were super kind and even tracked down a medicine cup for my daughter to take her meds with. It is the ONLY option in Williams, AZ being such a small town. I think, because it is the only store, the management doesn't think they need good customer service skills. The workers are friendly, and the food is good and fresh (like any Safeway) but the overall attitude is "we'll get to you when we get to you, chill out." They do have a Starbucks which is a great thing, and the deli makes great subs, depending on which person you get. The meat is good, but limited compared to a city store. Don't bother with the clearance meats, the 50% off steaks are already bad by the time they mark them down. I don't know if all safeways are like this, but the cashier bags his/her own groceries, then at each bag stops checking you out and walks your bag around to your cart. Average Safeway, what more could one ask for? I went to grab some Naked juice, and I had no trouble finding it. Clean and bright as Safeways usually are, and well-labeled too. Only downside is no self checkout lines! Also there's a Starbucks inside. read more

Nice place to walk to if you are staying at one of the hotels in Williams and looking for a decent grocery store. We came in here twice over the weekend to get snacks for the hotel room. We all love Williams, and can't wait to return! It's just a few blocks west of all the action. Can't miss it! Friendly staff as well. Can't go wrong. read more

Decent enough store. Prices are a little high but it is a tourist area. The parking lot is filthy, as is the walkway in front of the store. Can't employees sweep? Managers??? Also, as you walk into the store, there are tables where unsupervised young adults eat, smoke, swear, and generally make it unpleasant to walk by. Also, very filthy along the front of the building: trash, cigarettes. The sidewalk is in dire need of a pressure wash. Wow, this is heaven outside of Grand Canyon. We found watermelon for $1.77 each. Some of the produce was on the pricey side except for corn. We got like 6 ears for a buck or something like that. Easy on and off and tons of hotels nearby. You can buy and carry your food into the park which makes it super convenient. read more

Haven't been to a Safeway in awhile. It does not compare to HEB...if you're from south Texas you know what I mean. It was clean and had a good selection at their deli. Had a hard time finding the chips because they were located across the beer in the cold aisle...weird. Customer service was lacking. Seemed like it was a bother that I asked to sign up for their discount card. Opens early and stays open late which was a plus. If you are headed to the Grand Canyon, stop here to take your own lunch; you'll be glad you did. Saves you money and time since the crowds there are plentiful. read more

This is the worst Safeway I have ever encountered. The shelves are never stocked, always out of the things that a grocery store should not run out of, plus they overcharge often. I avoid shopping here even though going to Flagstaff adds another half hour to my drive from the Grand Canyon. Yesterday, I decided to give it a chance since I didn't feel like driving, and they were worse then I remember. Empty shelves, questionable produce, only one cashier in a very busy store, and worst of all the the grocery belt where you put your food was filthy, they could learn from Sprouts where they clean the belt regularly. I couldn't wait to take a shower when I got home. Never again. From now on I will drive to Fry's or Sprouts. read more

I stopped here a few weeks ago while staying at a nearby hotel. Good selection in the Deli area, even though the guy was shutting it down. He was grouchy and rude, but it made me laugh. The rest of the staff didn't seem to want to be there either, maybe it was a rough day. I can relate. Great selection though. read more

Just had a very awkward experience... our very nice checker asked her "manager" for change because we needed cash back. He stood there making jokes about not being a bank with a line of 5 people waiting. Then just stood there...literally, staring at her. Yes, in regards to a "carry-all" grocery store, this location takes the cake. My family and I, were stuck in Williams a few days ago due to a major winter storm and the only source of groceries we had available was Safeway. Their deli packaged foods were spoiled, and we had salads, subs and a cracker party pack. All of them were spoiled. Their prices were ridiculous, for three bags of groceries mostly consisting of lays stacks those deli goods and a few gatorades (with a few other things mixed in) and spent almost $300 for it...anywhere else would be at least two thirds the price. That being said, in a pinch it is a good store to find almost anything you need. read more

Despite being the only show in town [as near as we could tell] for a grocery store, they did okay all around. The store was clean and tidy, the stockers (working during the day, figuring small town locations don't "do" night crews) were polite about both helping you find things AND scooting out of the aisle when trying to roll through, and check-out was a breeze. read more

It's a ok Safeway as far as the store. Only reason knocked stars off was the women's bathroom was disgusting on Sunday evening, Aug. 13, 2017. Smelled like urine. Floors dirty. Toilets dirty, sinks dirty. Stainless steel doors should be polished and gleaming! Should not walk in to a restroom and think you're in an old stinky gas station on Route 66. read more

This is the place to buy all that you need for your camping or hiking at the Grand Canyon National Park. This Safeway is really new looking and quite big for a small town. In fact, I was shocked at the size of this grocery store for the size of the town. Awesome place to pick up the hot dogs, steaks, charcoal, and smores for your camping/hiking trip. read more

I never have been able to understand the justification that a company of this size uses to charge higher prices in a small town when the town is right off of a MAJOR interstate highway that their trucks use ALL of the time to go back and forth from California. This store also raises prices on new items if they turn out to be a popular item. Example: Coleslaw from the deli that consists of cabbage, green onions, diced tomatoes and dressing. Was $5/lb about 6 wks ago when they started selling it. Today--$6/lb. Ridiculous!! read more

On my way to the Grand Ol' Canyon I stopped at Williams local Safeway.. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! I was having trouble finding some neccesities when this lovely worker came up and helped me out. She was very tall! Which came in handy seeing as I'm only 5'1" and I couldn't quit reach my cereal... she was about a foot or so taller than me and just as SWEET as can be!! She's the reason they got 4 stars, it would;ve been five if this short pudgy man, i think his name was Dean, hadn't been so short and rude to be at the counter. He all but ruined the good mood that outstanding young lady had put me in! So iin all I thank Breanna, I might have gotten her name wrong, for my amazing trip to Williams Safeway! read more

The staff there is wonderful and they know who you are. With Williams being such a small town it makes it well worth it.

I really love this store! The people are very friendly and helpful. The sales are great, and I really have no complaints except this... there is a ridiculous line to check out EVERYTIME I go there. Would love to give this Safeway no stars, if there was an option. This location needs to do a better job hiring their young baggers. After waiting in a slow paced line, I had overheard a rude remark from one of the young bagger boys while being second to be checked out. The bagger boy had told the cashier that he couldn't bag groceries for brown, and then abruptly went to the next cashier to help them out. Very rude service. Especially while traveling with my three little ones, who were looking forward to the Pumpkin Train. I will never shop at this location again! I would rather travel to a nearby store closer to the university. Very disappointed. read more
