rude cashier: Lu I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with the cashier, Lu, was one of the rudest customer service experiences I've had. From the moment we walked up to the register, she never greeted us, smiled, or made eye contact. We had neatly stacked our groceries inside the basket to make checkout easier, but instead of politely asking us to take everything out, she abruptly told us to remove it all. We had no problem doing so--it was simply the way she spoke to us. My husband even made a lighthearted comment that we thought leaving everything neatly in the basket would make checkout easier, but instead of responding politely, she rolled her eyes and mumbled under her breath. Throughout the entire transaction, she acted as though we were an inconvenience. She continued mumbling, handled our groceries carelessly, and when she finished scanning everything, she didn't tell us our total or even acknowledge us. She just stood there silently, staring at the register without looking at us or saying a word, leaving us wondering what she expected us to do. My husband finally asked, "Is that the total?" Instead of simply answering, she mumbled again, rolled her eyes with a nasty attitude, and immediately turned her attention to the next customer as if she was done with us--even though we hadn't even paid yet. After we completed the transaction, my husband still thanked her as we were leaving, but she didn't acknowledge him at all. She simply rolled her eyes again. I understand everyone can have a bad day, but there is no excuse for treating customers with this level of disrespect. We weren't asking for anything special--just basic courtesy. A simple greeting, polite communication, and a little professionalism go a long way. Unfortunately, this was one of the rudest customer service experiences we've had, and I sincerely hope management addresses it so no one else has to be treated this way. read more

I came here at 7PM, February 14, 2025, from Ramada William Grand Canyon hotel. I spent a long time to think what was for dinner, like 50 minutes. Items were somehow different to supermarkets in Los Angeles. Well, I got Ball Park hotdog buns and Oscar Mayer Wieners, for my 14 and 15 dinners, costed $8.58. We had the Bakery Chef bake our 50th Wedding Anniversary cake. Brandin did a beautiful job making an Italian 8 in single layer cake. He decorated the cake per our wishes and was very patient with us, listening to all our wishes and reviewing photos of our original Wedding cake from 50 years ago (1975). I went to this store by defaul because I found that the restaurant prices where a bit expensive. I was able to find everything I wanted at good prices. Their value was excellent. The staff was very friendly and personable. One young man offered to help me however he could. That was very much appreciated. I was not given a name but he is obviously a fine young man. The leftover roast and frid chicken makle excellent meals. I also had some of their fresh chicken. It was all very reasonable. I also bought one of their submarine sandwiches for a reasonable price. I do with they had added some condiments but I will take that consideration in the future. Regardless I was really happy with their bakery and delicatessan. Also, I was able to get some rather substantial discount by being a member. I also must say the store was clean and well laid-out. Finally, because I bought enough food for the week, the cashier Earl helped me check out. He was very pleasant and accomodating. Again, the people that work here are a breath of fresh air. I've been shopping here when I have to. I've never met a helpful employee here. As a matter of fact when asked for help the man who always shows up to ring me up has a frown on his face, very grouchy and unfriendly. His problem? That I refuse to be a clown who works for these megalomaniac corporate owners for free. Do yes, I expect a paid employee to ring me up. I absolutely tell the woman at the "self checkout" ( seriously?? It's an unpaid slave option, not something for our benefit), to get someone to ring me up. This is usually around 830 am. Dhe hives me an attitude and then sends for the grouchy dude to open the register as if she is too busy herself to do it. Why would the slaves at the self checkout plantation need her to stand there doing nothing? They also have a sad selection of over the counter meds and baby items. I only stop here when I can't get to Walmart. Walmart always has cashier's in the morning. read more

Worst Safeway I've ever been to! Employees are not running on all cylinders. Prices are outrageous. Deli counter doesn't slice deli meat or cheese. Products ring up at higher prices than advertised and when you say something about it they just shrug. This place is awful! read more

This Safeway has everything you need (I even picked up Starbucks), except customer service. I was here twice during my stay in Williams, and both times the cashiers never bothered greeting me, or talking to me, even after I said "Hi, how are you?" It was such a strange experience to be ignored by the employees. The first time, I thought the cashier was mute, until I heard him tell his coworker that he was going on his break soon. Management should hire people who enjoy being around people, or at least train them to say "hi" to customers. I did find some good things in the clearance section and food staples for the few days I was staying in Williams. But otherwise, don't expect any small town friendliness in here. read more

I love that there's a grocery store here in town--anytime I'm staying somewhere for a few nights, I like to have a grocery store at my disposal to fill in the gaps of what hotel breakfasts and other food options might leave out. Plus, if you're in Williams to visit, you're probably on a road trip and the grocery store has all the snacks you could want. We had a big gap on our visit. It was New Year's Eve, and many of the restaurants in town were closed. The streets were teeming with people, hungry for food, and whatever places had remained open were packed to the gills with guests in a big fat COVID no-no. So we considered just going to the store, but instead ended up in a fast food option that will forever be remembered as a hilarious NYE meal. But even hilarious meals need dessert, and that's where Safeway came in. We picked up a couple of necessities, but the big purchase was a pint of ice cream. They obvs had plenty, and we were able to keep it cold in the truck until getting it back to the hotel and promptly devouring it while watching bad, interrupted movies on TV. Truly, we nailed New Year's Eve and Safeway was a part of it. read more

I am glad we have you in town. We shop there at least twice a week. I wanted to thank you for FINALLY having your parking lots and landscaping tended to! It has been looking shaggy and dirty for MONTHS now. My husband and I pick up trash on our way in, but cannot pull weeds or trim trees etc. Safeway is visited by MOST guests the town has. It is important that the facility look tidy INSIDE and OUT. I hate to see it looking like a unkempt, uncared for property. What is up with Safeway and its mediocre customer service? The store like most is very clean and nice but then you get to the registers and the wait begins. Come on Safeway be the leaders of your customer market. Not mediocre. There has to be a bigger financial gain by doing just a little bit to better the service. Finally installed self checkouts...and they were not being used so we put back our two items and left. Such a beautiful store, I'm sure very good staff too. Probably a hard market to keep staff and like most big businesses (they've got money) but their more busy cutting wages/people/service for the dime they see shiny in their bonus checks. Be aware of price gouging and make sure to double check your receipts because the person at the customer service desk told me that the Safeway card almost always never works. This review is for the deli. I've ordered many items from them throughout the years but recently have had terrible experiences from two different employees. The first was the most recent, when ordering two Italian sandwiches. The blonde deli employee decided to substitute raw bacon slices for the prosciutto. The customer service manager agreed this was a health and safety issue and promptly refunded our money. The second was an order for a pound of sliced turkey with a request for it to be sliced very thin. I was told by the dark-haired male employee that what I was asking for was "chipped" (it's not) and because of this, he ignored my request altogether and sliced the meat at whatever pre-set his slicer was on at the moment. Perhaps their deli employees rely on the fact that most of the customers are tourists and feel free to treat them with reckless disdain. However, this Red Lake resident will make sure to drive the extra distance to Flagstaff for any deli-related items. If you do risk it, make sure you do a thorough inspection on your prepared items to verify they are safe to consume. read more

In a town filled with mom-and-pop tourist stops, this supermarket glows as a beacon of hope for all those looking for a little normalcy on their vacation. sure, you can find cheese blintzes in town, or find six or seven stores selling John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia... But when you simply want to make a quesadilla in your motel room microwave, and need the basic ingredients... Ralph's is the only game in town. The store is pretty well-stocked and reasonably priced for a unique tourist town destination. Starbucks in the store is a bonus. Moreover, there weren't a lot of Ralph's stores I know that advertise taxidermy services at the front end. But when in Rome... In the winter, be careful of ice in the parking lot. It can get pretty cold in Williams. upon arriving in town, I would also make a point to check the hours of the store, as on different trips, we have noticed different closing times... Ranging from 9 PM to 11 PM. These also, notably, have not been the post of hours. One thing is for sure: when you need a quart of chocolate ice cream to eat while laying in your hotel room watching basic cable, well... You're not going to find it at that store on route 66that sells Buddy Holly bobble heads and magnetite flakes by the pound. read more

This is a nice Safeway location. Easy to use because I have the rewards card. Points for gas discounts while you shop. Nice produce and beer selection for when we camp nearby. WARNING: BUYER BEWARE AND ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!! Safeway probably knows that most people won't check their receipts and that almost nobody would report them to the attorney general's office of consumer fraud for systematic fleecing of the public. Most people who shop at this store are unsuspecting tourists, many from outside the US. On each and every occasion I've shopped at the Williams store, I have been overcharged on items. I've resorted to taking photos of the shelf prices and comparing them with what I'm charged at the register. Sometimes the checker increased the quantity of items, but mostly it's "bait and switch" on the prices. When I politely pointed out the errors to the checkers, they either get surly with me or make excuses or send me to an empty customer service desk. One employee who gave me a refund at the customer service desk offered a long list of excuses: they have had four different store managers in six months, Safeway's IT department has been moved to the Philippines, they don't have control over pricing in the computer, etc. In other words, "don't count on the situation changing". This store was across the street from our hotel. We bought a few things during our stay in Williams. We were very happy with the cooked chicken and the french bread. These items made a cheap and convenient meal, without the tourist trap pricing. We also found some large bottles of Hatch Chile salsas, and picked up a couple of them to take home. I thought the store was nice, as were the people working here. It worked out well for us, we were here several times. read more

Got what I was coming for. Just disappointed that no one in the store is enforcing their OWN mask policy for customers. So many customers without masks, even though it clearly says they must have one on to enter. I get that it's not directly Safeway's fault, but they need to have someone tell these customers to put a mask on or provide a mask for them at the entrance. Got stranded here for nearly an hour last weekend at 4am. The weather was twenty-two degrees Farenheit, there were piles of iced up snow on sidewalks and curbs. There was a skunk rummaging around a small way down the street, and then there was us. Three women, stuck in a car that wouldn't start. "Hello, AAA? Our car won't start." And so the waiting game began. We were parked diagonally across two or three handicap spots as employees of Safeway arrived for work, and after a little iPhone use to find out what time the Safeway opened (we didn't wanna leave the car), we picked up some water and got a bathroom break before AAA came to our rescue. For it being the crack of the morning, the employees were all smiles and all nice. The place was already for patrons. I love a good clean empty store in the morning. Some of the cashiers are really nice, but that is not the case with Gloria. She acts (every single time) like she wishes she could be anywhere but there. She bags your groceries and just leaves them there, doesnt hand the bags to you or put them in your cart, like other cashiers do. If something falls out of your bag onto the counter, she just leaves it, for you to pick up. Is not friendly in the least. One time she had a conversation with a family member the entire time she was checking me out. This is not appropriate at work. She is not conscientious about scanning items. Several times I've had to go back for a refund because of her negligence. I go to this Safeway twice a week and now I ALWAYS avoid her lane. Super rude person. I've ordered groceries several times through the curbside pickup and I've been frustrated each time. The last time I waited in my car for nearly 30 minutes before I finally called to ask what was happening. Today, groceries came in a timely manner, but the substitutions were questionable, to say the least. First, there were no Kaiser rolls and nothing was substituted. However, I ordered naan and that was substituted with éclairs. What now? The one pound of carrots was substituted with 10 pounds, to the tune of $7. Most of those will be wasted as will that $7. Cinnamon square cereal for generic Rice Krispies? And they don't ask before you take the groceries. There's no room, that I've seen, for declining those changes. Walmart updates me with the substitutions before I arrive and then again when I get there so I have plenty of opportunity to say no, thanks. We use this Safeway because we live in Grand Canyon Village and there's nothing convenient. Not really a continued selling feature. read more

Wow. Never been to one of these. Prices are great, awesome and wonderful. Brand name foods. Also got their ready made chicken... For an inexpensive lunch. We bought two chickens and it more than fed our family of seven. It was delicious and moist. $10.00. Wow. Heinz ketchup only $1.50 a bottle. The only thing I saw that was expensive was the butter. But no more expensive than any other store. Most items were very inexpensive. They have a nice I'll for Mexican and Oriental foods as well. Good amount of gluten free throughout the store. Let's start with the positives. The produce guy working early in the mornings is very helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable. He really is the main gem of the store in my opinion. The bakery staff is also top notch. The bakery people, like the produce gentleman, will go absolutely above and beyond for you. Most the stockers are also very helpful. Most the deli people are helpful, with the definite exception of the lady in charge. Avoid that person. Unfortunately, many of the products are overpriced; as other reviewers have stated, it's worth the drive to Flagstaff to save money. Also, it's often difficult to find a good number of ingredients that most other stores carry. Granted, this is a small store in a tiny town that may lose money carrying the wider variety of product most other stores carry. Due to the small size of the store and the numbers of customers it serves, it's best to do your shopping early in the morning for a better chance of getting the products you need before certain things are completely cleared out for the day. However, early in the morning, and this is the thing I absolutely abhor about this store, typically the one and only checkstand open is labeled an express lane. I have waited long periods of time in this line to actually be rudely informed by the cashier, after waiting and finally placing my groceries on the belt, that I must collect my things and "GO TO ANOTHER CHECKSTAND"! Even though there are NO other checkstands open!! I am definitely a person that would never go over the item limit in an express lane. However, when this is the one and only lane open, what am I to do? I must say, after other reviews confirming that, yes, this store is wildly overpriced, I will definitely be shopping in Flagstaff much more often. Also, the next time I do need to run in real quick in Williams, and there is only one measly checkstand open that happens to be express, and I am rudely told I MUST go to another line (that doesn't exist), I WILL leave all my groceries sitting there and walk out. It's truly a shame that this store has many exceptional employees that go above and beyond, only to be ruined by an absolutely terrible checkout experience. There was a horrific crash on the freeway while we were on our way to our destination. As soon as there was an off ramp we took it and chose to come to Safeway to wait out the traffic jam. They have a large parking lot. Not a lot of shaded spots but it was cloudy on and off so we were comfortable hanging out in our truck. I conveniently forgot toothpaste on my trip so I took the opportunity to go buy some. My uncle also needed contact lens rinse or water or whatever that stuff is called. Along with the toothpaste& eye stuff, we got some pre made sandwiches for lunch. Pretty plain turkey and cheeses on white soft roll, to split with the kiddos. Our wait was long but they have nice clean bathrooms that we used multiple times on our long wait. Staff was friendly and didn't mind us coming in and out multiple times. Oh, and they have a Starbucks kiosk too. We definitely hit that up on our way out. read more
