We live nearby so this store is convenient but, honestly, my family (grandpa, mom, cousins) has been coming to this store since it opened YEARS ago. I HIGHLY recommend downloading the Safeway app. It saves you money and then you get all these reward points so that your gas costs like a dollar. Lit-er-ally. A dollar. Anyway, the layout of the store is good. They did an upgrade a while back that broke up some of those long aisles so that you can get around more easily. Typical grocery store layout. Always start on the west side (produce) and end on the east side (milk, eggs, bread). You'll meander through a pretty substantial floral department on the west side but they have some nice stuff in there that's not too expensive. Overall the quality of product is good and the prices seem right. They have some of the same inventory as Whole Foods for $2 - $3 less. They also have a good selection of fresh fruit and produce (lots of varieties of stuff). In the center of the produce section, they have a smaller organic area (more expensive). They have a great bakery (try their in-store cinnamon rolls or blueberry muffins - they're like crack), sandwich shop, cheese section, and prepared foods. The only drawback to this store is not really a drawback - it just makes the store different than some others. There are A LOT of students that go to this location. They are everywhere. STANDBY FOR GENERALIZATIONS AND STEREOTYPES: They walk slowly through the aisles trying to decide what to buy. They're on their cellphones asking mom what to buy. They aren't paying attention while they meander around. They wear the shortest shorts you've ever seen. They don't stick to the 15-item line limit (well, no one really does and it's shite). Some of them are incredibly attractive and it's quite distracting and I forget what I'm doing because I'm flustered. OBSERVATIONS OVER. My only heartache with this store is that they need more cashiers more consistently. There are always pretty long lines. They move fast and it gives me time to rethink my purchases but it kinda stinks. Friday night, Saturday and Sunday are always the busiest times. read more

Not often that I love a grocery store, but this place is noteworthy. The staff is truly helpful, you can tell that they take pride in what they do. Jason is especially awesome, that guy will go way out of his way to make sure you get what you need. They have really quality products, great meat and fish. We had some Salmon two nights ago that was off the charts. The store is clean and well organized as well. And I'm not going to lie guys, some of the best eye candy in Tucson doesn't hurt the rating here. All in all, my favorite of the normal Tucson grocery stores. read more

Cashier David is incredibly rude. My stomach turns each time I end up in his line. I've been shopping here 5+ years and this man regularly makes inappropriate and humiliating comments about the items I am purchasing. After this last experience, I am done. Safeway has good sandwiches, however the location on Broadway and Campbell needs to improve on Customer Service, 2 weeks ago the woman at the counter left me standing, said she was coming right back, I ended up picking up one of your packaged salads. Today, I ordered a sandwich at 12:30 pm, and the woman handling the counter was out of ranch dressing and out of lettuce, I mean this is your lunch pick hour and you do not have all the ingredients to make sandwiches ??? Several great factors about this store. First: 24 hours. Secondly: Great selection. I enjoyed shopping there. As long as you have the club card, savings are great! Compared to some other grocery stores I have been to in the area, it was nice that they had some more upscale items too and a nice selection. I like organic items, etc and they had them and at a reasonable price. Store was clean, well kept and the the cashier was very nice. It's nice they have a floral, bakery, great wine selection too. My only complaint was that for some of the canned goods the prices were a little higher than the competitors, but it seems that many times that's common. But nothing was too expensive that it was worth making a separate trip to another store. read more

Worst deli department ever. Employees are completely indifferent and can be heard constantly complaining about their jobs. Very unprofessional and horrible customer service. That being said, the store overall is great. Saul and his team in the meat department are fantastic! Just don't plan on needing anything from the deli here....... Still the worst deli ever. I tried the "drive up and go" service yesterday, but after paying online, all of the items were out of stock. The brightest spot of my day was Danny, the in-store shopper, who went out of his way to try to find replacement items for me after re-checking the stockroom. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, in spite of the fact that I was a real bitch about it at first! (Hey, it's not easy to sit at home and have other people run around doing what you are too lazy to do yourself...for free‍). Because I'm a college student with no car, this is the closest grocery store and the one I frequent most often. If I had any other options, I wouldn't be coming here. Yes, the prices are good and the selection is pretty large, but the staff is absolutely awful. Every single time I go, a cashier will close the line right as I finish putting my stuff up on the belt. Actually, I take that back -- the ONLY time they haven't done that (as well as the only time any cashier has ever said hello to me), I was wearing a low-cut dress. Not only did I get decent service, but I was treated to the cashier staring at my chest while checking out my items (which means he missed scanning a few -- thanks!!) and slipping me his phone number. The store itself is ok. Not the biggest but has more produce than the Safeway vlosest to me. The parking lot is a mess, with drivers who don't look before they back out or swerve around cars which are more than half-way out of their spots. The store is pretty crowded during the day but not so bad at night. The real reason for the low rating is the gas station. Twice now, I've pulled in only to see the price on the pump is $0.10 more than on the signs. Really misleading and obnoxious, especially when the Circle K down the street is cheaper. read more

Horrible! I placed an order and received delivery confirmation. Never received my order. Attempted to call to find out and ended up on hold for 1 hour 30 minutes before I used my other phone and just pressed buttons until talked to live person. They have no idea why I did not receive my order. Confirmed they had my contact info and still did not understand why I did not get contacted. Suggested I cancel and place a reorder. I've been going to this Safeway since I moved here, either Saturday or Sunday morning. After they changed management and where everything is in the store, they never seem to have eggs or milk. Honestly not even sure if they even stock the sale items/ staples because I haven't been able to buy everything in one trip in months. I was also informed by the "dairy guy" that they should have more stock in Sunday night? I havent written a review of this location yet? I love it. fresh produce, friendly staff. (Same feeling as Corey D) they call me Mr. Girlfriends last name, because I use her family's card number (basically the same as Brooke, but I dont think I mind as much) Get the safeway club card... or get someone's number, it can save you a TON of money. Plus gas rewards are always nice. Bakery does awesome bread. There is usually a great beer on sale, I'm not talking that keystone crap, but good beer, session, dos XX, Kona Brewery beers, and so many more. Watch out when you go shopping here. it can get busy! M-F 5-7 will generally be pretty packed. I usually like to go at night... after 9pm, more like 10 or 11 are my favorite. I personally hate the act of grocery shopping.. I try and be in and out as quickly as possible but this Safeway makes it a little bit more bearable for me. read more

This is probably my favorite Safeway in the old pueblo. I usually stop by here on my lunch and get a quick bite from the deli department. Food is always fresh and staff is always friendly. I think they have recently updated their "sushi" bar to include better quality sushi. Yes, I am guilty of grocery store sushi, but in all honesty, theirs is not bad! This is also pretty convenient because the gas station is a larger one, for a Safeway. I love that you can use your club card to get discounts on their gas. All in all, this is one of the better Safeways in town. The only downside is the flocks of the universtiy kids that swamp this store during peak hours. Other than that, a great store! PS - The pharmacy is amazing and quick and the drive through pickup and drop off is a godsend! Just switched to this pharmacy and so glad that I did! read more

This Safeway is college student central. You even get a student discount on Saturday's with your student ID. The store always seems busy no matter what time of day. My least favorite part about this location is waiting in line. They need more cash registers open. read more

The fellow that was making up for other shortcomings by carrying a pistol was beyond.......lets leave it to that. My college age daughter shops here because it's close to campus. She was approached today by a man who asked her name and wanted her to go with him to another location. She declined and after he left she continued to watch his behavior. He seemed to not have a reason to be in the store and was wondering around without a cart. After she called me, I called the store manager and was put on hold and hung up on two times. The third time, I expressed how upset I was and was assured that Susie the customer service manager would talk to me. When I expressed to her how upset I was about being put on hold and hung up on, she brushed over it and blankly stated "how can I help you". After telling her about the person that was roaming her store talking to young ladies she said she'd talk to the security guard about it. I have lost complete faith that this store cares or would potentially do anything to address the situation. This goes beyond bad customer service, this store is dangerously neglectful of it's customers. read more

After decades of customer loyalty we find that store changes impel us to shop elsewhere. We reserve Sunday mornings around 7:00 AM as optimal shopping for two reasons: it is easy to maneuver around the major road project in front of the store and more importantly, fewer people in the store at that time reduces Covid-19 risk. As we were ready to check out (approx. 8:15 AM) there were no available cashiers... self check-out being all that was available. There were 9 people crowded in the small self check area and no possibility of social distancing. We asked staff if someone could open a check-out and were informed that a register person was not scheduled until 9:00 AM and that that was the new store policy. If my wife hadn't been tired at that point and for the fact I didn't want to subject her to a repeat shopping trip elsewhere...I would've left both carts there on the floor and walked out. The irony is that when we were finishing up, we heard a call for a front checker over the PA! In short we are very disappointed with this short sighted policy that forces people into too close contact to what? Save a buck?!. We have no choice but to find a grocery store that does the right thing and has checkers available on Sunday morning. read more

I do like this Safeway quite a bit, not only because it's the closest full-service grocery store to my home. I find most of the employees exceptionally helpful, pleasant, and professional, with only one or two crabby exceptions. (Okay, ONE crabby exception, unnamed). I think the produce department is especially great. Compared to produce at the nearby Whole Foods, this Safeway's selection is so much better. I have only a couple of complaints. Visits to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions can be frustrating, as it seems the meds are hardly ever ready when you come in. My other big complaint is with the shopping carts. The old carts were miserable--rattily and loud to push around the store, many of them banging as they rolled along. I was overjoyed when they ordered new black carts, thinking at last those miserable carts were gone. Well, within no time at all, the new carts began "misbehaving" as much as the old ones. It makes me angry every time I have to wheel one around the store. And yes, I do try more than one cart, often with no luck. Come on, Safeway, don't just go for scoring a good deal on carts that turn out to be junk like the ones you had before and those you have now. Costco has amazing carts. Take a cue from them, please. read more

This used to be the grocery store I would frequent when living downtown. I love that it's open 24 hours and the staff is really friendly. My only complaint is it gets crazy on Friday and Saturday nights when the U of A is in session...the self checkout can get pretty backed up. The parking lot is very car-friendly and I haven't had one bad experience here. read more

This is the biggest grocery store I go to. Its really close to home too so I visit it when I just need something real quick. It seems they are getting more and more organic produce which I like! I did try the steak kebabs from the meat deli have to admit that Sprouts had much better. The Safeway App is fun to use. No more. I'm doing my shopping somewhere else from now on, which pains me because ive had great customer servixe from the sushi chefs, the seafood guy, the cashiers, the managers even. They don't coordinate the lanes well. Every time I go the checkout lanes are fewer and the lines are longer! This last visit I took my chances with self checkout and the computer crashed as I was about to pay for a whole cart of groceries. This Deli at this safeway has the worst customer service, there is always employees walking around and no one willing to help. the last few times i was there i had to walk over to more than one employee that said i will be there in a min and disappeared to the back and never came back out. then when i got the one guy to bag up my chicken he handed it to me and walked away with out asking if i wanted to check out and again i had to wait around and ask someone to check it out, with no help i went to self check out and did it myself. i will never buy from this deli again. read more

This Safeway is my favorite grocery store in Tucson. It is sparkling clean and the employees are great. I never wait long at checkout. It has an upscale feel but prices are low. I get twice as much that I would shopping at Walmart down the street. I recommend Safeway on Broadway! read more

I was able to get everything I needed and Ruth our cashier was super friendly and very helpful. However in giving 4 not 5 stars because of the deli. I asked for sliced cheese as thin as she can possibly make it. She didn't offer me a sample of her first slices that she made and then packaged it up before I could see it. Before she put the price tag on it I asked to see how thin it was and it was regularly sliced. She told me that she couldn't make it any thinner than that without it falling apart. I told her it was okay if it started to fall apart and then proceeded to cut it thinner, again not offering me a sample. But I did eventually get my cheese how I wanted it! read more

When I lived off 22nd street I would pass 2 other stores on my bike to get to this store because of it's fresh produce and friendly service. This is kind of a smaller Safeway and the the people that work there are not as friendly as the one in my neighborhood. The plus side is we enjoy getting our gas their when we have gas points to cash in. I like the food in there, but there are seriously awful customers. I got my car dinged in the parking lot and the other person didnt care. In line i have been coughed on, by person standing much too close. Once, this drunk chick came up to me and was saying judgy religious things up in my face. I told security to kick her out, they did nothing. Two busybody baby boomers in the parking lot accused me of something, i just shugged it off but i got nasty glares. The lines are horrendous some days, and they do run out of stuff. It seems like its mostly a mix of college students, crazies, and mean, nosy older people. Good points, their bakery is really top notch. Awesome selection of bread and cheese. Love the roast chicken and bread bowls. The employees are friendly, never have any probs with them. This Safeway is substantially more expensive than most, not only in the area but in CA as well. They will have deals posted in the isles that ring up as full price when you go to pay. They are often out of staple items and be sure to double check expiration dates. There is always a long line no matter when you go, the employees are rude and seem upset every time I go. read more
