The writer Cory Doctorow describes the effect of "enshitification" and this sort of describes how companies lose their way. They add features, cute trade names, and try to develop cults around products to boost sales. While it's not a bad idea to boost sales, the basics have to be right. I have to choose this locale, where I went Wednesday, to moan about the severe hike in prices, short cycle of products, and the drift from doing the basics correctly. TJ used to march to a different drummer. House brands with quality for household staples, often with an international flavor and source. There is still a wide variety of decent international staples, but it's highly focused on cult products and flavorings. Prepackaged and ultra-processed foods are becoming standard(s). Protein is down, carbs are up. There's still a reasonable variety of veggies, fresh, but not in wide abundance. Certain common items, like walnuts, go missing for long periods of time, and other items become seasonable and their shelf space is unreliable. So while it's still good, there is now wade through the weeds of products that are edge-case. Hail Mary Marketing attempts. I bristle. read more

Often this is my spot to pick up food at the end of my workday, Trader Joe's on Wilmont. This spot is sharing space with Starbucks, Bubbe's bagel and a popular Sushi spot. I usually come for fruit, cheese, and nuts, but leave with so much more. With the holidays coming up, this is a great place for butter, spices, and holiday treats. I really am a huge fan of their nuts, and purchase the trail mix nearly every visit. I love their tempting granola, which they sale by the pound or in snack packs. Also, I like that they have individual bottles of juices; I always grab the tumeric pressed juice for my husband . It's my spot. read more

Trader Joe's is always a great alternative to large supermarket chains. The products they have are excellent and quality. The prices are very reasonable. There are no scales of the store to pay for an item by the price for example one banana $.19. If you're produce the same applies, makes it a lot easier to budget your shopping expenses. They have a wide variety of wines at very reasonable prices. Excellent staff, which is very knowledgeable of the products their location in the store that are always very helpful. Every Trader Joe's I've been to has their own parking lot. Trader Joe's also has a friendly flyer which is like a newspaper which features the products little story about them and the price they've been around for over 50 years. read more

Oh how I love Trader Joe's! This location is central and tucked in a shopping mall. I will drive all the way from Vail to visit it weekly. We love heading here and picking out new and seasonal items to cook dinners. They recently had pineberries. So good! This is also the best place to get flowers to build your own bouquet. They're affordable and have more variety than a standard grocery store. Service is 5 stars, per usual with TJ's. read more

Some French Canadian friends stopped in Tucson on their way south to Mexico and we sent them to TJ's as first timers. They were amazed at the product selection and the best prices. They texted to let us know they stocked up on wine, 24 bottles, and shopping cart full of supplies. read more

I stopped by to pick up groceries with my service animal. He had his vest and leash that noted he was a service animal. Emerson, the Trader Joe's employee came up to me and said I know you are a regular here but you can't bring him This was the 1st time I brought my service animal into this location We have been on airlines, hotels and other Trader Joe's without issue. I seldom get to this Trader Joe's but I like to stop here when in the area. I sometimes find they have a bit more than other ones. They have a wide selection of produce and I like the strawberries and blueberries I get there. There are some nice salads that I find to be fresh. Frozen foods are a wide variety from Italian, Indian, Mexican, Asian and more and include vegetables, fruit and entries. There are also appetizers that make for nice snacks. They have things you won't find in other stores and friends of mine from Hawaii always head to a Trader Joe's when on the continent. read more

Nice Trader Joe's and I believe an original? One of the earliest stores I think I saw on the signage. Really an oasis in the hot desert heat walking from the car to the store can feel like a lot when you're not used to it but you're greeted by friendly staff and wonderful AC! the store has a bit of a funky layout but it's well stocked and has all your favorites. Infact it has some really interesting items that are specific to the area. My region didn't have some of these products and it was so exciting to discover! They have a beer & wine section as well if you need that. Plenty of parking... it's a great location! My only recommendation is be sure to bring your cooler / cooler bag! I don't see how your cold items would make it home in that hot hot heat! Otherwise wonderful employees and everything you love about Trader Joe's. They have some single drinks cold too which was so refreshing and needed when I went! Great store! read more

I was visiting fam in Tucson and we don't have a Trader Joe's in El Paso :( so I came here before I left. This place is superrrr organized and the prices are fair compared to Albertsons and Whole Foods. I ALWAYS make sure to come to this Trader Joe's because the employees are super friendly and very helpful!! Oh and the frozen food and cheesy garlic bread is my FAVE!!! It's owned by the same people that own Aldi, family owned from Germany. Their company has had a long commitment to organic food and reasonably priced food. I think they have some great values and their fresh squeezed Orange juice and their fresh squeezed grateful juice are outstanding values. They also have fresh pieces of grapefruit that are in water and cane sugar. They have lots of good looking vegetables and fruit. They have a good selection of meats. They also have lots of frozen food especially vegetables, potatoes and main dishes other things like French Onion soup, chicken and pork wraps that a person of the person age can use a little bit at a time. They have organic yogurt mill almond milk all the kinds of things you would find with a Whole Foods or a Sprouts. They have a great selection of wine as well. It is a complete grocery store. They do a good job of trying to serve people the best way they can and make sure they have plenty of cashiers. Parking was easy and plentiful. read more

This must be the best Trader Joe's location, ever! The staff is very friendly and solicitous in seeing if the customer needs anything. The store is well stocked and clean. The place is consistently crowded, yet there is little waiting in the checkout line, as Trader Joe's has figured out how to handle that very well. The staff at the Trader Joe's in Oro Valley could loose some attitude and learn something from these folks. The bad news is that parking is treacherous and limited. The volume of traffic through the North Wilmot Road/East Speedway Boulevard intersection is ungodly. Of course, that's hard to control. read more

I think is my favorite Trader Joe's location. They usually have a line. Thankfully, they play the Trader Joe's podcast for customers while you wait. It makes the line go so much faster. Once you are next in line to go in, the employees greet you and ask how your day is going. They are very friendly and have great attitudes. Once inside, the store is setup so you can easily find everything you need. In the event you can't find what you need, a helpful employee is always near by to happily help you locate your item. Usually has a long line but if you go around six pm, there's no line. They're hiring for temporary workers if you're looking for some employment and also have senior hours from 8-9am. Workers wear masks and gloves. Food selection was pretty good but were out of orange chicken. Also take note that apples are priced each and not by pound. read more

No, it can't be the only place you shop. Yes, you'll still need to go grocery shopping after you just went grocery shopping. But can you truly ever enjoy eating without a little surprise and variety in your life? Today on my visit to grab a cold soda and a snack I ran into the following: Fig Butter, Almond Ginger Oatmeal soap bars, banana flavored dog treats, and Cashew Butter flavored Cashews (yep)... and zero cold sodas (although 5 varieties of cold kumbucha)... you can't find that at Safeway. And trust me, your life is better for knowing you can get all these unique items somewhere. Trader Joe's always has a great selection of fun items to try and generally has just enough of everything else to make dinner (especially if you want a previously frozen dinner). When you tell someone you shop at Trader Joe's or Sprout's or Whole Food's there's just a stigma that you're either a snob or extremely health conscious. I'm here to tell you that you're not. I've shopped at Trader Joe's for quite awhile now. They have AMAZING food and it's quite inexpensive if you look in the right places. Have you seen the prices of fast food? It's the same cost as going to a sit down restaurant now. If you go in the freezer section they have packages of Mandarin Chicken for $4.99 and Fried Rice (with or without meat) for $1.99. That's $7 to feed two people if not more. My SO grew up on foods such as fried rice and different types of "Asian" chicken. He is absolutely in love with this and it's so quick and easy to make. I'm serious if you can make a pit stop on your way home from work or picking up the kids from school get this chicken and rice. Maybe even get some cracked wheat sour dough. I cannot explain how nice this food is for being in a place that I've constantly been judged for going into. read more

I hilariously decided to go on a Saturday for charcuterie board items (you know their weekends are busy), but the store handled social distancing wonderfully and the wait in line moved so much quicker than you would have expected given its size. I love Trader Joe's. They have tons of interest in items and the store is well set up for small size households such as mine. Prices are reasonable and the stores are well run and scoopiously observe covid protocols. I think I've figured out the whole Trader Joe's thing. As I didn't grow up with it, I think I've just had it wrong in my head all along. I thought it was a grocery store, like, just a grocery store proper, like the Kroger or Safeways I knew, only with more eclectic offerings. It's not so much that, though. I have been most satisfied with TJ's on two occasions: One, a road trip to California where I needed food easily prepped in a hotel microwave. And two, a road trip where it was all about snacks. In both cases, TJ's came through in spades and delivered some incredible finds like microwave pasta, and then the most massive corn nuts you can find. Victory on both counts. So that's pretty simple: This is my road trip stop. Sure, I could grab regular Frito's or Oreos, but why do that when I can get pumpernickel pretzel rods and coconut caramel cookies? Those were all winners on my last road trip (I was not in charge of snacks, but was pleased with what we got here) and will be the key to success on future road trips. Aha! read more
