Great customer service & store is nice & clean. Best produce section in town highly recommend

With the price of everything going up, it's nice to be able to still find good deals. The prices in their produce department can't be beat. I stop in frequently for avocados 3 for $1, cucumbers 3 or 4 for $1, onions 3 lbs for $1, and several other produce items. They have great deals every day but especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I haven't purchased meat here yet but there's a huge selection and always a line. It's not in a great area but that doesn't stop me. The check out ladies are always very nice. They scan your items and then you bag your own groceries. read more

Wuilimar one of their EMPLOYEES literally around 9:00 PM just getting small amounts of groceries and the person in front of us literally told me and my dad something and pushed our groceries back and the cashier didn't do nothing and stopped it from going forward with out explanation on why. and wouldn't tell me what happened. I found it! The only pan dulce I crave. The butter cream was definitely not skimpy, there was more than enough to the point that you can cut half of it and spread it on the opposite side if you wanted. The other location that had it was Cardinas, but yelp reports that it is closed. Upon entry from the east side, walk straight ahead and you will find it. Their sale was 5 for $4. Thankfully, they had a less than 10 Item lane where I was able to easily and quickly check out. It's a rough area with many rough looking people outside. It was very busy inside. We were asked for spare change when we walked to our car. We were in and out in about 5 minutes. The parking is also wild because there are many shops on the side of their exterior building. They have an excellent meat and seafood counter but there is always a long wait; depending on how much time you have, it may or may not be worth it. The bakery has some delicious cakes. Parking is a little challenging at times and the neighborhood a little sketch. I personally would not go later in the day. read more

El super comes in handy when you need something authentic for your ethnic recipes. Although, I was looking for cajeta quemada yet they only had the regular cajeta in the bulk section. El super has some of the best prices for produce and they offer a wide variety of bakery items (pan dulce, cakes, gelatina), and meat cuts in the carniceria even amongst inflation. Expect a long wait at checkout because there's typically only 1 or 2 cashiers open which is maddening. They should already have self checkout for us that buy only 1-5 items during one trip. Also, the area is also very sketchy. You encounter people asking you for money upon arriving and as you leave the store. El super shares a plaza with curacao, a clothing store, panda express, dominos and a few other small businesses. There is also a check cashing booth inside the grocery store which gets very busy Friday evenings. On the far opposite side of the store there is an alcohol section where you can find liquors, beers, chasers and ice. This location is across town for me so I rarely stop by. I wish they would expand to central/east tucson. read more

Reasonably safe in the daytime, past year at night panhandlers. One attempted mugging in the parking lot by a fentanyl user, had to beat him off with my good wooden walking stick. Security only inside. Vegetables, dry goods, like grain and lagoons and beans are high-quality normally sometimes some of the vegetables they get can be junk Their breads are usually fresh baked and very good large selection of Latino, cleaning, soaps, and detergents so pretty cheap. They do have to ship them from Mexico. Their meat at their meat market is usually high-quality. I've never had an issue ever, and it usually never stinks or smell smells. It's always been excellent. Their fish can be garbage if it's from China and there smelt is only good for fish bait . The shrimp is usually decent. Nobody bothers you not the customers nothing and you can find a large selection of Latino goods for rock-bottom prices . You can find normal American brands as well. Usually their eggs are overpriced like 30% more than Walmart. Their product moves so fast. Normally you usually always get clean fresh vegetables or meat at the deli not the stuff in the packaging. The staff are always helpful, but you have to pack your own groceries So long is the price of goods is low and the quality is high. I'll come back. The second they get as bad as Food city I won't be back because there's no security outside and there's a fentanyl camp of homeless towards the bridge but they've seemed to clean that out. And the security guard seems to have deterred any homeless inside the store, robbing and panhandling Whether in the future, this is cleaned up or not, I don't know. But I will always come back once in a while for pan, chicken beef, fresh vegetables, and tortillas. so long as the price remains low I'll be there. Oh, I like the cheese too. read more

Looks like another big company fucking over the employees. There were at least 15 people in line for their fresh meat section and only two people behind the counter. I see six workstations but only two people. The produce section was perfect and all the shelves seemed organised so I'll come back but if I need anything I will have to make sure to get the number for the meat counter before I look for anything else because it's moving so slowly read more

I worked at El Super in Tucson. At first I loved working there and then the store director started shaving hours to the point that some of us became homeless. I have reached out to upper management but got no response. The last time I checked embezzlement was a felony but she still has her job. I do what she s asked of me and she fired me over the phone on Christmas Day. I want to be paid my vacation hours because I worked for them and she refuses. I know vacation hours get paid because some former employees got their vacation hours. And now they are forcing us to sign this arbitration agreement to "make sure we get all the money due to us." If we don't sign it, we're fired. What kind of company are they running that would allow a store director to steal our hours so she can get a larger bonus? We can't even place full orders or we get a write up. This store needs a new store director, like maybe an honest one. read more

We came around 1:00 on a Friday, and it wasn't very busy. Large selection of everything from veggies, pan dulces to pottery. I found some Oaxaca cheese which made me very happy. As other reviewers commented, the meat counter is HUGE. Even though it wasn't busy, it took a long time, so TIP: take your number ticket at the meat counter as soon as you arrive, check the number, and THEN do the rest of your shopping. We got done great boletto rolls here. I did have a question at the pan dulces, and a young lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful...she even came out from behind the counter to help me. We'll definitely be back during our stay in Tucson. read more

Do not go there on weekend days, it is way too crowded. Lines to pay go for ever. It's a very big grocery store. Huge meat counter. This review is based on the very poor customer service. Specifically from the ladies in the tortillería. I asked if they had masa preparada for tamales and the girl at the counter literally rolled her eyes at me. Luckily I was feeling patient today and killed her with kindness. Y'all need to do something about your rude ass employees before they get pulled over that counter one day by someone who's not so patient. I wish that there were more El Supers in Tucson! The produce is hands down the least expensive I've ever seen. 5 lbs. of yellow onions for .99 cents? 10 pounds of russet potatoes for $1.99! 5 lbs. of apples for .99 cents. I got a large pineapple for $2 and a cantaloupe for $1. I'm thrilled. The lettuce was a little bit past it's prime but I will check that out next tine. So many choices for protein, marinated meats and chicken I can't wait to go back and see what ideas I will have to make other delicious dishes. This time I got boneless beef short ribs that I went home and braised in red wine, and made tacos al pastor with some marinated pork and beef chorizo with cilantro and avocado for lunch. I'm excited to go back and try the marinated chicken. The people who work there are so sweet and helpful. This is way better than other grocery stores that charge a dollar for a piece of fruit. I called to price tamale masa and was put on hold for 10 minutes then they hung up on me. I called back and nicely asked the same question and lady told me "We don't give prices over the phone". If you're grocery shopping has become a series of stops at local parks and posh foothills plazas, interspersed with online mail order and a garden harvest, El Super is probably not your cup of té. But if you're into consistently dirt cheap prices on produce, and a meat counter that could double as an "offal of the world" exhibit, this is the place! A few need-to-knows up front: you bag your own groceries, you take a number at the meat counter, and the parking lot requires defensive driving skills. Avocados, citrus, red onions, bulk beans, bulk masa - El Super (pronounce Super with the short "e" of egg) consistently has the lowest prices on these staples, for example last week red onions were 33 cents/pound. The meat counter is longer than my house and includes every imaginable component of cow, pig, chicken, and creatures of the seas and ponds. El Super provides an overview of how one product can vary in style from country to country. For example Chorizo can be purchased in the style of Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Honduras, or Mexico. Some of the cheeses are also labeled according to country's style. Intriguing parts of El Super which I've never tried include a deli counter next door to the meat counter that offers convenience foods such as tamales, breaded things to fry or bake, and bulk french fries. Have to agree with other reviewers that the fruits and vegetables are the best buys in all of Tucson. Although selection is limited the prices and quality are some of the best in the area. I would rate this store higher were it not for the poor service and management arrogance. I'm from Europe so am familiar with waiting in line and taking a number for the meat and deli-counter and am willing to wait until it's my turn. However the other day I grabbed my number (30) at the meat counter, they were serving (20), not bad I though. But then I noticed that nobody was being served. One girl eventually came out and served two customers then went back to the meat cutting area not to be seen for another 10 minutes. Employees were cutting meat and joking in the back but nobody cared about waiting on customers. The ticket number had now gone up to 40 and I had been waiting more than 20 minutes, 10 minutes since the last customer had been served. People were putting their tickets back on counter and leaving. Since I had my eyes on some country ribs, decided to wait. Eventually a manager came by and I stopped him to complain about the lack of service at the meat counter. Instead of listening and looking to see if any customers were being served, he explained that people usually buy 6 - 8 items and service would usually be slow. I'm fine with that if in fact there was someone actually serving customers, but the manager just kept coming up with excuses ignoring the looks of the other frustrated customers who were likewise upset. So my recommendation is positive on the food and prices, but the management of the store fails in terms of providing rudimentary customer service. read more

Things are hit or miss at THE supermercado du jour of the Latino community and others (of course). Produce at amazing prices, but wash them extremely well for the possible pesticides and/or wax (my tomatoes were shinier than a Bonne Bell lip gloss). The Mexican pastries: 5 for $2!!! Crazy prices on desirable, carb-laden treats, but just reach to the back to avoid those who like using their fingers (witnessed today - I wanted to swat her offending hand away). Great buys on staples (rice, olive oil, dried beans), but some prices are downright wrong ($4.19 for a box of cereal that I've bought for $1.99 elsewhere). Vegetarians beware - stay away from the meat section unless you want lasting trauma from the pig snout display which my fiancé so happily pointed out. And one more tip: check the prices as they ring up at the register, some prices posted will not match and you'll need to bring that to the attention of the cashier prior to plunking down your hard earned feria. Play nice with others - try out your rusty high school Spanish here. CRAZY-ASS FIND: Flor de Caña Nicaraguan Rum! I do wonder about GMO/Pesticides, BUT the prices cannot be beat. Kale 2 for 99 cents. 5 lbs of plums 99 cents. 5 lbs of just about any produce 99 cents. 6 lbs of watermeleon 99 cents. You get the picture. The bakery is pretty good too! Flan, tres leche, torta bread. Cheap prices on Mexican Coke and Jarritos. Decent selection of Mexican candy. I love the paleta selection!!!! Salsa bar, Mexican cheese bar, Chicken nugget bar (weird), a huge butcher (haven't tried the meat myself). They even have hot dogs pre-wrapped in bacon. I digress. Come here for the produce! Prior to today I would have rated this store a 3 but this store deserves nothing better. The produce is at a great price, but please keep in mind this is the #4 produce that other quality stores reject for numerous reasons. One of the main reasons being that the produce shelf life is low and most likely won't last. A lot of the produce is old, and has been sitting a while. (I have 20+ years experience in wholesale produce) SO although I will buy produce here, I be sure to wash it well and use it quickly or it will spoil. The meat is a good buy also, but I also rinse it well at home. I will not buy the chicken, I have bought bad chicken more than once. The deals on non-perishables though, are unbeatable, and a lot of the products I find here are only found in Mexico, so for that reason, I come here. I was highly disappointed today in how myself ,as well as a very elderly woman were treated. When asking a produce guy where bottled lime juice was, I was told "I work in produce, I don't know. Ask the cashier." I was so thrown by his response, I told my husband, "this is why I prefer to shop else where" The produce guy then said "Good, your business isn't needed." I'm sorry, but you NEVER treat a customer with such disrespect. I then witnessed the older woman (50's maybe) and her very fragile older mother asking for a product, and instead of immediately stopping to help her, he gestured in the general direction and continued to stock an already overly stocked display. I had to tell the man to help the poor woman, by taking them to the product. They obviously had no idea where to look. DON"T EVER MAKE A CUSTOMER WAIT AND TREAT THEM DISERESPECTFUL!!!! I asked for his name to take it to the manager, he said " I am the manager." I found another manager. When I asked him for his name, he didn't want to give it to me -- he knew he should have treated me in a different manner. And he had the audacity to keep me waiting to go to the manager together. The manager handled the situation professionally and without incident, and apologized profusely. But this will not make up for the produce guys misbehavior. You get what you pay for here. We needed to look for tamarindo because my wife found that the pods are better than the compacted pack for curries. Mexican grocery stores are known to have them but we didn't know which one had them in Tucson. We went to El Novello and was redirected to El Super as being the best place. It was as big as Costco. When we got there, my wife hit the jackpot. There was a pile of it in the vegetable and fruit section. We got two bagfuls. I wish there was one in Albuquerque. It is definitely a great place for all your Mexican food and them some. read more

This is THE BUSIEST grocery store in Tucson (day, night, weekdays, weeknights). It's catered to the Hispanic community. I buy my grocery here because they sell some, if not THE, cheapest breads in town. You can buy 5-6 midsized baguettes for .99 cents. Some of their pastries sell for $1-$2 and they're more than enough for 2-3 meals. This grocery also has probably the largest butcher shop in town. Beware, you have to wait in line for awhile for your freshly butchered meat! One of the unusual things about this place is that you have to 'self-serve bag' your groceries at the counter. They don't have baggers in this extremely busy store. read more

Anywhere that has prices like this gets a good grade in my book. The only reason i don't give a 5star is because they don't have non chemical treated brown rice. They have brown flour but its more expensive than anywhere else. i also wanted meat tamales, and they only had corn ones. Can't blame them for this though, so it has nothing to do with the rating People really shop for oranges here, not like other grocery stores where noone buys them and they sit around and dry out. You can actually get everything pretty fresh, you might have to wait till next time but you will get fresh if you give it a little while. I bought like 2 kg of Chia for 5 dlls, that's what you pay at Costco for like 300gr. This place is heaven for me because of their huge selection of meats, cheap veggies/fruits and 99¢ fried wheel chips. I also love their bakery goods and i'm addicted to their mocha cake, not too sweet and very moist and it only costs me $7.99 everytime i'm craving for one.
