Calling all Ohio transplants and ice cream lovers! This is the only spot in Tucson that carries Jenis.

Love the selection at AJs. So many niche and specialty products. I love the floral department at AJs. This is where my husband usually finds flowers for me :) This is a great place to grab a gift or treat for someone. We always hit up the bakery section and buy a $2 hibiscus iced tea before we shop at La Encantada. I also just found out kids under 12 get a free cookie which is a nice perk. I do wish they had more vegan and vegetarian options at their hot bar and prepared foods section.

My favorite wine from AJ's

What's not to love about this market. Great fresh food options at the deli sandwiches are delicious. My go to for fantastic wine selection and great prices allow you to try something new all the time. There is always someone to help in the wine department to help you pick something out if you need to. My only issue would be they need to hire more cashiers. 9 times out 10 it's busy and they have lines. The best is the option to to have your food or wine outside where they have plenty of tables and even a beautiful fire place!

When you want something special to serve a guest or group you want to look here. Many choices and price ranges all near the bakery counter. We picked two different types of treat because we don't know everyone there. Safe pleasures.

Upscale full service grocery store with imported specialty items that are hard to find elsewhere. Large beverage selection, a deli, a pastry section and even a made to order fresh sushi in-store dining service. Outdoor seating also available for dining. Excellent butcher and seafood counter with several options for marinated meats. Produce section was well stocked and fresh. They do support local as well and label locally made items. I also find cute home gifting ideas here. Good experience. Repeat customer. And even if you don't purchase anything... a fun store to peruse and get inspired for your cooking or guest entertaining adventures.

Really nice gourmet grocery store in the Catalina Foothills (La Encantada), which I frequented quite a bit. It's the kind of grocery store with such a great ambiance that I actually found myself really enjoying grocery shopping! So much so that I always ended up wandering around and spending more time (and money, lol) than I expected. Workers are also really pleasant. They're well stocked with fresh fruits and veggies, and a good selection of organics. I also liked the prepared foods in their deli section. And props to their wine buyer too for a nice varied selection of wines!

still a very upscale grocery store.... It has high-quality deli meats, i.think.the honey ham is outstanding and they sell wonderful roast beef at the meat counter. So they. Have a couple of different meatareasa. They also have great pastries and bread. Their fresh veggies area is small but high quality They have a great bakery and lots of choices of pastries, cakes, torts and bread. Most their mixes come from Europe. They also have a mini indoor sushi area where you can sit or get sushi to go. I know they try to use fresh Iocal, organic, produce, with fresh being the operative word in.there salad bar and their vegetable and fruit section. Produce is well organized and looks almost perfect. They are mostly local, and they have almost anything you could want at a high-end store megastore like Whole foods or some chain grocery store like Frys They have a hot food line, their chefs, and prepare a corporate menu plus two additional items added with the chef's creativity. They serve breakfast 6am to 10pm, lunch 11 to 3pm and dinner 4.to 8pm.... You have to call them to get the menu... Their website also has the menu and the to go menu.....There is breakfast, 6am to 10 am on Saturday and Sundays. With an omelet bar on Sunday. They have a taco Tuesday from 11 to 3 PM. They also sell some pizza by the slice every day, which is outstanding. Thursdays They have lasagna lunch from 11 to 3pm and pasta from 4 to 8pm. They had Chicken Parmesan the day I was there. They have diverse collection of domestic and imported wines, beers, soft drinks, health drinks, and spirits. They have wonderful selections of single beers, health drinks, and soft drinks. Their rye whiskey, bourbon scotch, hins, and vodka have depth and quality. Across from their wine and whiskey area. They have a tasting area and a nice selection of cigars in humidors. They also have a nice selection of fresh meat and seafood in their counter area. it's for when you want to splurge. It's a top-notch food store with lots of high-end items. It's a gourmet food store. Remember, it's not about food only, It's also about expectations. Everyone is understaffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. It's in a strip mall area, so parking was plentiful, but I could tell that it would fill up fast as it seemed to be one busy place. I found that staff were more than willing to help me and most of the time would actually walk me to an area that I had questions about rather then just give me a general directions and send me on my way. The store was clean and well organized, and They do a good job of trying to serve people the best way they can and make sure they have plenty of cashiers. If you're a person of a certain age, their already prepared items are extensive. They also have a wonderful fresh flower area. Again, you're gonna pay more. But the quality is worth it, in my opinion, especially if you're into gourmet food. Hot food options are really nice for someone of a certain age. It's definitely worth a look.

Went in for sweet treats only and all tasted delicious! The upside down pineapple was indeed my favorite.

Florals from AJs

Floral department review: AJ's is one of my favorite spots for fresh flowers. Their price point isn't the friendliest on the pocketbook, but when I'm looking for extra special flowers or something exotic, they always have something in stock. They can also place special orders which I appreciate. They're also reliable for floral arrangements on special occasions. If you're feeling splurgy, head to AJs!

Spoiled rotten italian sausage. Opened them same day as purchasing. This happens too often at Ajs

Usually a fan of this store but their meat department seems to be having issues here and there. Numerous times we've purchased meat, chicken, or pork and when we opened it at home it was spoiled, rotten and smelly. It's happened too many times to be an accident, I think they're keeping meats for longer than they should or someone there is not noticing. This time we purchased Italian sausage. It was dark grey with a pungent rotten smell that you can't miss. The use by date as march 3rd and it was purchased on feb 26! Someone needs to look into this over there because we're definitely too scared to buy their meats any more.

Oven wasn't hot, but still got a good sandwich

Great pastry shop in the foothills! Nice place to have an espresso with a fresh baked pastry. Also, a nice sitting area outside.

The food and drink prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are large. There always seems to be a long line to order.

Ask the Community - AJ's Fine Foods

Do they serve wine by the glass?

I need two cheeses for a wine tasting. ? Aged, 12 and 24 months. Will I find both at Aj s. .? Thanks

I would say yes. Also look to Whole Foods.

LBP's bakers make the sublime goods that I recall from back then. Their crust is crunchy/chewy and their bread is substantial, yet cloud-like. Miches, baguettes, epis, loaves, rolls, croissants, & special flavors; all are highest quality bread. And their cake & pastries? Sainte vache! They have fluffy cream puffs, creamy eclairs, yummy cookies, flavorful pies, and more. And don't get me started on their cupcakes, which are moist and tender and even better when they're Cosmic. There is something indescribably delicious about the apple and cherry Crisps. *Chef's Kiss* The staff at La Baguette Parisienne is knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. They are also incredibly kind. On my last visit, I managed to take an epic fall (really more of a clumsy crumple) that included pushing a rolling counter across part of the store. My middle name is "Grace". The owner, Kim, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful (nor could the customers there at the time, so I guess kindness attracts kindness). She helped me to get up and was gracious regarding my minor rearrangement of her shop and cheerful enough that I went from embarrassment to laughter in record time. My late beloved Mama found this lovely, cute bake shop decades ago when they first opened, and she was a delighted weekly customer whenever she was at her east-side Tucson home. I hope to carry on her tradition, if less frequently from my UA-area home, until my time on the planet is done (bury me with a plain large Miche, a Cherry Crisp, and a Cosmic Cupcake, please). Highly recommend!

We ended up with some jalapeno cheese focaccia, a fresh loaf of sourdough (sliced for us right there), a couple of croissants and a cherry crisp. Everything was incredible and delicious. I've lived in Tucson for less than a month & my new neighbor gave me a loaf of Barrio Bread…read moresourdough. Wowza!!! Back in my old home in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island we had an artisanal bread bakery too. (Calmed Seven Stars, they have grown in the 15 or so years they've been around, now offering pastries, coffees, & with several different locations. Barrio Bread is staying truer to the original vision - great breads, bagels, just stop in to shop, & take it away.) My husband & I were headed toward N Country Club Rd early Saturday morning so thought we'd stop in & see what Barrio Bread's space was like. 15 minutes after opening we were already 7 patrons from entering the store! The line moved quickly enough, enough though we could see customers being individually greeted and served with friendly & warm attention rather than impatience. When we made it to the front of the line, it was the founder/original baker Don Guerra himself staffing the register. What a nice person! I mentioned where we'd come from (and Seven Stars), and Don stepped away from the register to call over Matt, one of the current bakers. Matr's a graduate of Johnson & Wales University (whose world-class culinary program is in Little Rhody) who met Don when he came to JWU to teach a master class in bread. Matt also baked at Seven Stars for several years before moving out to Tucson! Small world. I'd say this encounter was a little taste of (old) home - but Barrio Bread is more beautiful to look at and more varied than what I'd have available back in RI. And that sourdough is the best I've ever had! Too bad I left my phone in the car so no pictures - at least at this visit.

Good news was there was no line, and only like 4 people in the shop. Bad news was they didn't have too many breads left. I went with a seeded Cuban bread and a seeded Epi bread. Total was about $10.00 for both breads. How were they? AMAZING! I can see why the owner is a James Beard Award Winner. He was the guy who rang me up, too! Super nice guy, knew some folks in front of us and seemed like a Stalwart in the community! Good stuff! The bread was so good! I ate the Cuban loaf toasted with just some butter. The sesame seeds, the slight sourdough tang, great crunch outside and soft inside. Great bread! The seeded Epi bread we pulled apart and snacked on during our drive back home. Again, crusty and seeded outside, soft chewy inside. If their "end of the day" bread is this good, I cant imagine how good their regular selections and specialty breads are. I will have to preorder sometime or spend the night in Tucson and stand in line right when they open to sample more of their delicious offerings! Absolutely delicious breads! Will be back, for sure!
