It's been a while since I shopped here, but I'm giving 5 stars on the merits of customer service. Whoever was working the customer service counter where green dot cards are sold, I want to say thank you. I don't know what day this was, but whoever you are, you were looking out for my Grandpa and I'm thankful. I'm sure most people have heard about scams over the phone where someone says you have 45 minutes to pay this outstanding bill or else we're cutting off service. That's the call my Grandpa received and in a panic, he followed the directions of the horrible person on the phone. When he got to the counter in Safeway, the woman working asked why he wanted the green dot card and he replied with that familiar story about an outstanding bill. She immediately told him it was a scam and that nobody from PG&E would call him and ask for that. He went home and called PG&E's customer service and they also agreed with what that lady at Safeway told him. It saddens me to know there are horrible people out there preying on our elderly but I'm so relieved and thankful for the outstanding individuals that stand up for our seniors and lead them away from these despicable scammers. Ordered the 8pc chicken bucket with thighs and drumsticks and it's like the girl went out of her way to give me the tiniest, driest pieces of chicken there was. Turned out 2 of the tiny pieces were tiny wings that were over battered making them look like tiny thighs. It was a joke. Even my teenage son looked at it and asked "What the heck is this?!?!" I placed a Drive up and Go order on 8/16/22. What a bad experience except for Manager Darby who went out of her way to make things right. I placed the order because I had just brought my spouse home from the hospital and was fearful of having to leave him alone while I shopped. The shopper who prepared my order has no business holding that position as clearly she lacks good judgement - I'm using the word "judgement" to be nice here. She provided very poor service in fulfilling my order and could also work on her friendliness toward customers as she could not even manage a greeting or a thank you when she brought my groceries to my vehicle. While I understand substitutions are sometimes necessary, my understanding of a substitute is a brand change. Not a completely different product! I ordered frozen cauliflower and got frozen spinach -not even close! Cream of Mushroom soup is not a substitute for Cream of Chicken when you're following a recipe. Beef round strips are not a substitute for chicken strips - two very different products! Deli ham is not a substitute for sliced deli chicken breast. I ordered 1 lb. of fresh green beans and received maybe 1/4 lb - enough for two servings! For some reason I got a bunch of fresh broccoli that I did not order as well. When I brought the items back to the store I asked to speak with a Manager immediately. Darby was fantastic and worked to make things right. Three items were supposedly out of stock as well which were in the store when I brought my returns back. One was leaf lettuce! When is Safeway ever out of leaf lettuce? I knew my order was being shopped for at 8 a.m. because I received a text to notify me. I find it impossible to believe an item like lettuce was out of stock at 8 a.m., but was fully stocked at 11 a.m. when I returned with my items. This shopper was a train wreck! Lastly it seems this employee needs some counseling on dealing with customers. A hello or good morning would be nice when bringing an order to a customer's car. A thank you and have a nice day is customary too. In addition, when the customer calls the store to make a complaint, it's always a good idea to make sure you've ended the call and aren't on speaker phone so that the customer can hear your unprofessional, foul language. Upon being questioned by another customer service employee about her decisions in fulfilling my order, I don't need to hear her say "because we were out of the sh*t" over an open phone line. Hang up first next time. This is my 2nd poor service complaint, the other was a grocery deliver very recently where my items were left for 30 min. on my porch on a 98 degree day. Do better Safeway employee or allow someone who wants to provide good service to have your job. read more

When Safeway's are fully loaded like this, it's hard to go in and not walk out with a cart full of stuff, and a huge bill too lol. This one also has a Starbucks inside right when you walk in on the right hand side. I've stopped in there at least once a week since mid April to do some grocery shopping. The meat and produce is good also. They also serve hot food and have a custom sandwich bar next to their bakery. If you want nice fresh hot food here, stop in. Bring your credit card too. read more

Within 2 years I've encountered actions from employees that make me feel as if I'm a bad person. One lady asking me for proof that I paid for my bagged groceries while I had my two young daughters with me after I just asked her a question, today another worker standing right behind me as I check out at self checkout & leaving the area as I leave the store. Terrible. Waited for someone to assist me to make a sandwich. Only one lady acknowledged me. The other lady was cleaning and didn't say one word. Then when someone finally did come to the sandwich area she stated she had to help someone else first because she was standing in the wrong area. I waited for about 20 minutes. That's ridiculous! 01/30/2023 I had the worst experience at this location. I spoke to the bakery to order my niece wedding cake for end of April 2023. No one in the bakery knew about any cake pricing. No one knew where the cake photo-book was. I asked for a manager by the so called name Eduardo. Who had no clue and had no experience in service levels. Clearly no checks and balances. I asked who could take the order and he stated he had no one to take the order. Safeway clearly should know pretty story horrible customer service. This review is solely based on two employees. I was trying to pick up my redbox. I asked a bagger if she could call someone because it was frozen. This happened before and someone restarted the machine. So we asked the bagger and she said she was going to call someone. She repeatedly looked back at us to see if we were still there (the check out line was right next to the redbox machine that's why). I heard her tell the cashier and the cashier saying to not do anything (which at first I didn't think it was relating to us). However after waiting for a while and her still looking at us, I asked her if someone was still coming with she then told me that she can't do anything about it because its not part of Safeway. Which okay that's fine if you would have told me if the first place, but she had us waiting there for so long and she saw us waiting for her as well along with a couple of other people waiting. Really don't understand her logic! Management needs to work on their staff. read more

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. I just bought an eggplant to have for dinner and it is rotten. Every time I come here the produce section is empty and the fruits and vegetables they do have are turned.. I really hope they can get better produce and stick their produce more pften.. it seems I will go one day and come back the day after to see if they have restocked...NOPE still empty! This review is for the Manager of the deli department. Her name was Virginia and she went above and beyond. First she gave me the whole artichoke hearts I wanted...Then I asked if she had any Curry Chicken Salad in the back. She came out and said no, but she could make some if I wanted. She also gave me a sample of the curry chicken breast while I was there. I told her that I would be back in town on August 6th. She wrote a note to herself to get some before I came in on that day. This store makes up their own rules...(and if you question a store's policy go above management). Should have written this a while ago-- This review is based on a return I did a few months back, and some purchases that were made in the last few yrs. So, I returned an item WITH A RECEIPT and the cashier (her name started w/ a T) asked me if anything was wrong, I told her I already had the same item at home and didn't need this one. She said "Ok, I can do it this one time but in the future you can't return anything just because you have duplicates at home." I have NEVER heard of this out of all the Safeways I've been to in the bay. I told her this, and she kind of shook her head and repeated herself. Then on another occasion I had a raincheck for 3 or 4 of the same item, and at the time I only wanted to buy 2 of the 4 items. That cashier told me I had to use the whole raincheck at once. What?!? Again, I've used these in the past at other Safeways and I've never been told that. They always let you come back to use whatever is remaining on your raincheck. I've also bought things here that were CLEARLY on sale but at the cash register these same items mysteriously come up at regular price..smh. Luckily, I caught it at the last minute and got the sale price. So, lesson here is to PLEASE double-check your receipts, AND you're not allowed to return anything (w/ a receipt) just because you changed your mind about it, AND if you have a raincheck make sure you have enough $$ to buy everything on it. read more

Safeway Delivery Service Placed an order for delivery on Sunday that was scheduled for Monday. Never received it because allegedly the driver was running late. It was rescheduled for Tuesday, but again it was never received because allegedly the driver wouldn't make it at all the day. It was rescheduled again for Wednesday morning between 8am - 9am, but by 11am there is still no delivery. Customer service is called and they can't even get an answer at the store when they called, so they offer only a $20 credit on a $130+ order. Very poor customer care. Update Wednesday the 5th: We finally received our order after 2 days but there are a couple items missing. Very unsatisfactory and undependable delivery service. read more

I really love this Tracy location. I see all my favorite cashiers and all of them are great! I have never had a problem with their kindness and help and they always give special attention to every customer. I like getting my food here and they make you feel like they give their 100% to make everyone no matter who you are feel good. Excellent customer service! read more

My motivation here is diesel fuel. Safeway offers it, and unfortunately, others don't, especially at really good prices. I've been here a few times and everything goes smoothly, although it's crazy busy at times. They should probably enforce a single direction into and out of the station. People driving around other vehicles often seem too close. I paid a bit more than I paid at the Pleasanton location the other night, but it was still reasonable, and using the Club Card, hopefully, all of this counts toward extra savings. read more

I've never been a huge fan of Safeway. In general I feel their prices are higher than they should be for the extra value they try to provide in the service departments. I have also never felt the commitment to customer service from the top trickles down to those on the front lines as much as other supermarkets. With that being said, I do like the Safeway here in Tracy quite a bit and I think it is probably one of the best of the Safeway's I've ever been to on a regular basis. This store tends to be cleaner than average and quite organized. Rarely do the items I want have an empty spot on the shelf when I want it. The fresh foods tend to be fresh and presented well. The crew that stocks the goods all seem to be real hard workers. The customer service here is really good as well. I haven't encountered the typical 30 people waiting scenario with only two check-stands open. I can't recall any checker being anything other than very friendly and interested in the customer having a solid experience. If it weren't the prices, I'd give this 4 stars. Yes, I use the app and yes, I play the game to get discounts on items I like to buy. So I'm in my phone before every trip re-adding to my Safeway card all these discounts that are lost on those who don't have the patience. Will I go back? Yes, and I do frequently. When I go through the trouble of picking out deals on my app, the prices can be good. There are some items that only Safeway carries, and I drove down 11th street all the time and there they are. Again, great people here, very clean, well organized, but the prices don't equal as much added value as I would expect. read more

I personally love this Safeway for several reasons. The staff are nice and always helpful, it's always clean and the self checkout is awesome. "Karen" is always at the front, not sure if she's a manager or not, but she always has a smile on her face, is willing to help anyone and knows the store and her guests really well. She should be a manager if she's not already. Anyways she's great, nice atmosphere, cool staff, and is conviently located to a few banks, their own gas station, cvs, and a few fast food places. The only thing you won't like about this place is the parking and some really discriminating, rude, and snobby guests. Also, It can get really crowded with terribly inpatient drivers waiting for a spot. Id have to say most of the time the guests themselves give this nice market a bad rap. Patience people, it's a grocery store. Still my favorite grocery though. read more

In terms of Safeway stores, I would say that this one might be above average. Plenty of parking, sufficient number of staff, not too crowded, and easy maneuvering between aisles. There is a Jamba Juice and floral section, but there is never an employee manning them? Good to shop here when you're already in the middle of cooking a meal and have forgotten that one ingredient. Safeway is close by and most likely has the missing ingredient. Otherwise, prices are your standard grocery prices. If you're looking to save money, go to Costco! read more

Covid policies are not in effect the worst so is by talking to the workers management refuses to close the store knowing safeway and its distribution center here have always had covid in their system. These cashiers are not sanitizing cleaning or changing gloves. The manager in the front is always running around touching screens and i never see her sanitizing. Its not the first time which is why my rating is low. Also during covid, I brought my ID which expired on my birthday but I was buying drinks for my birthday, she deemed my ID Invalid on my birthday. I haven't shopped much, so I decided to order 'my groceries, actually pick them up curbside. I was notified not to show up (Tracy store) until I received a message to do so! I ordered Thursday, scheduled a curbside between 4-8, and I waited for a notification to pick up my items and never heard from Safeway!!!! I called Friday and was told by Jeremiah that he was canceling my orders because they were still in progress, they were overwhelmed with orders was his excuse That is the worse customer service advise ever. No Covid monitoring. Customers are not wearing masks or facial coverings and are being allowed inside the store. Also, employees are not setting a good example by wearing masks correctly, making sure nose and mouth are covered. 6ft social distancing are not being followed. The company is responsible for training and holding employees responsible to follow proper Covid protocol. Safeway is also responsible for providing a safe and clean environment for it's customers to shop. I don't have a problem with Safeway, I shop at the Pleasanton, West San Jose locations and no problems. Here employees seem to be lackadaisical about Covid 19. Specially with cases increasing in San Joaquin county each company needs to do their part. read more

Every time we come in this place it takes longer to get helped than to actually shop for groceries. The workers are slow and rude. Don't even try to get helped quickly in the deli or sandwich areas. The deli staff act like you're bothering them or wasting their time. It takes several minutes just for one of them to even make eye contact with you and they all move at a snails pace. Today we even got the pleasure of waiting in line at the check out while the checker Michelle stopped ringing up our items so that she could snap at her coworker that she needed a break. The coworker Debra was trying to help 3 people at once and then calmly told Michelle that she was working on getting someone to relieve her. Michelle then made sure to tell Debra (and in turn the entire line waiting) that she "needs to go". Now I won't comment on why Michelle wasn't relieved earlier, that seems like a management issue, however, I don't think customers needed to hear this exchange of words AT ALL. Maybe act like a professional or even a grown adult. Don't whine like a child that you need to go to the ladies room. What happened to good customer service at Safeway? What happened to making eye contact with customers and smiling or saying hello? I thought Safeway prided themselves on the quality of care they gave their customers and fellow coworkers. You have a job, a pension, health benefits, would it really hurt to take a moment and throw out some customer satisfaction? (I believe that came in your employee packet when you started). To Safeway management, please understand that the only people we have EVER had talk to or smile at us in your Tracy store are the staff members restocking the shelves and the employees in the meat/butcher department. Please get your stuff together. The ONLY reason we continue to shop there is the convenience. I'm quickly realizing WINCO is only a few minutes further down the road, more lines available, nicer staff and the same food.... I'm sure other people will be catching on too. read more

I love this store. I am a regular shopper when in town to this store. This store is ALWAYS well stocked, clean, easy to navigate and decently priced. I have always had fresh food and treats made from the deli and bakery. Always a winner. I have recently began drinking Starbucks and have been indulging while shopping. I wanted to acknowledge a special employee at this location. Her name is Danielle. She made one of my first coffee drinks for me and I'm hooked. She is all over this store. Each time I come in she is doing something different. I've seen her collecting carts, bagging and as a checker. Always with a smile and pleasant attitude. Highly impressed by the bakery and their custom cakes!! If you give them a photo they do a great job making it look very similar to what you want! And the cakes are delicious, I love the fresh strawberries they add. Always a good experience here from the ordering to the picking up.
